WE WILL NEVER GO BACK! This was one of our favorite Pho place until we noticed that they reuse the vegetables!!!! Just GROSS!!! We saw them cleaning a table and they dumped the soups and trash in the top bin which is obvious that's the trash but they took the vegetables and place it at the bottom of the cart separately! Why in the world would they need to do that and not just dump it like everything else???!!! It's obvious they are going to reuse it! Since we love this place and to give them benefit of the doubt, we went back. Again we saw it happen but only to the ones that looked like there were decent leftovers. Gross!!! Makes me wonder about the quality and cleanliness of this place. Oh and they are cheap with their meat! Also customer service sucks and the owner needs to learn to crack a smile!!!! read more

I will start this review with a preface: my not-so-great experience is partly my newbie fault. But hear me out! Commence replay of my experience... I decided to try this place due to good reviews from my fellow yelp friends & it's semi-convenient location to work. I was also sick that week and had already frequented my normal Pho establishment (multiple times). Thus, I placed my call to Pho 98 to for a pick-up order. The [gentle]man who answered the phone seemed to not be in such a great mood, was talking loudly, and repeatedly not understanding my order of "Spicy Beef Noodle Soup". Apparently I had to talk as loudly and exasperated as he was, for him to understand. I picked up my order quickly... cuz the dude really didn't seem to want to deal with me. Uh, ok! Got back to work, expecting this delicious pho-like soup that was beefy & spicy & would end up knocking the sick right outta me! (High hopes? Maybe!) I opened the container of soup & began to arrange the assortment of pho-like ingredients to be added to the soup. And then it hit me... this SMELL... it was pure funk. I couldn't understand where it was coming from. I started blaming my shrimp-eating turtle across the room. I was also very busy picking at the pieces of beef - it was 50% fat! Disgusting. After picking, I put my attention back to the smell. Again, I couldn't understand where it was coming from!!! Until I put the spoon in the soup & went to take a sip. It was the soup. Here comes the "my bad" part: my co-worker came in & I told her how upset I was about the soup. I couldn't eat it! Did she want it? Yep, she said with a smile... and that's when she informed me: It was a different kind of Vietnamese soup, not like Pho, & was made with a seafood base, including fish oil. Ok, I KNEW I didn't order Pho, but I figured it was something similar. My bad. However... Spicy Beef. That's the description. So that's what I expected. NOT Spicy Beef Seafood. Shouldn't there be some kind of indication?! And THAT, my yelping friends, is how I wasted $12 & ended up eating peanuts for lunch. Ugh! read more

This place is ridiculous. I ordered 6 pho noodles to go. Went to pick it up and when I asked the old guy behind the counter (owner I assume) if there are enough Hoisin sauce he kept saying "alright." Clearly he didn't understand me. When I got to my car, I opened up my to go orders and checked inside. They literally gave me 5 little cup of Hoisin sauce. So I went back in and asked for some extra Hoisin sauce since I like to put a lot of it in my soup. The old man said something about how it's a "package" thing and they don't give out more than necessary. I told him that I ordered SIX dishes, so AT LEAST give me one more and he said something about that package deal again. Then get this. He said he has to CHARGE ME EXTRA FOR IT. WTF?? ARE YOU SERIOUS?? Seriously. All I'm asking for is couple more measly Hoisin sauce. I straight up yelled, "I'M JUST ASKING FOR SOME SAUCE. WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL." The old man finally looked at one of his servers and told him to go inside and get me some. He came out with three more. And while the server was inside getting the sauces, the old man AGAIN was lecturing me about a package thing or whatever. I just turned around and stopped listening to him and he stopped talking. To save a few cents on a stupid Hoisin sauce, you just lost a customer who would've come back pretty much every week. That's just bad business. I knew a subway owner who refused to give extra toppings and his sad shop went out of business after few years. I will never come back to this place. No, correction. I will go back once. And when I do, I will eat in, order me a dish, and use every single Hoisin sauce in the bottle in the entire restaurant. What are you gonna do then? CHARGE ME EXTRA FOR IT?? The owner is rude and the food isn't even that good. I got the spicy noodle soup and it was horrible. I could've made a better one at home with some water, noodles, and chili paste. This is a really good pho place. It is run well and serves as a great lunch spot as you receive your food quickly. I can only speak about the pho quality. Given a choice I would take Pho Bistro over Pho 98, but Pho 98 is still very good. The staff are pleasant and work hard. read more

By far, my favorite pho place in the Dulles area. It's clean, bright/sunny, and consistent. What sets it ahead of the others places is the sate sauce. Be sure to ask for it ! I usually get P16, but occasionally I will get the grilled pork and spring roll vermicelli; a change for when it's hot and I need something refreshing. read more

Usually this restaurant is very good - maybe a "B" - but this time they obviously threw in some very old spring rolls. I have seen occasional not so fresh food from them before and I overlooked it. Occasionally, restaurants may do that, but this time it is ridiculous. Skin is dry, inside of the rolls are dry, they look terrible, like an old dog bone. Horrible. A disgrace. I am so sick of restaurants that, every now and then, sell you old food. Pho 98 has great chicken and beef soup and their other dishes are pretty good, even their Chinese style dishes. They are a good value and my friends like it. But, this time they threw in some old spring rolls and I can't accept it. I don't know how to attach the photo, sorry. I went for lunch to try it out because of the good reviews. As soon as we walked in the restaurant there was an overpowering smell of a stale kitchen. The place looked cleaned though, so we decided to stay. Big mistake. While the service was efficient, the spring rolls were old - they were cut in half and you can see the bean sprouts getting brown and wilted. The crispy rolls ...were frozen. Seriously, these were the worst crispy rolls I've ever had in my life, with something minced inside, and impossible to identify. We returned them, the waiter apologized and in couple of minutes served us with a new order of frozen crispy rolls. Are you kidding me? If I want frozen food, I can go to the store... We had the Pho Ga, which had somewhat strange taste - I've never encountered that in pho ga before.The broth was somewhat darker, with white meat which was so tough, it was impossible to chew. I don't know whether we went on a wrong day (Saturday), but any place that would serve lukewarm frozen food is not worth visiting in my book. read more

I'm a vegetarian -- and as such, my options at this place are very limited. I ordered the phö broth without any meat, which was my best option. It beats me why a place like this - so close to the airport and with a very international clientele -- refuses to invest in buying a little tofu, some broccoli, really anything to make a vegetarian feel welcome. I live in SoCal and nothing beats the quality and price of Viet food from there here in America. That said, Pho 98 is for sure one of the best pho/viet food places in NoVa. I've had the pho, grilled pork/crispy spring roll vermicelli, and summer rolls and all have been on point. The pricing here is about typical to other Viet food places in VA. This place still looks new and the bathrooms are clean. The employees and owner here are all pretty nice. Haven't had bad service yet. Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying other things on the menu or just come here when I'm craving a good bowl of pho! read more

Who would have thought suburbia would have such wonderful Pho. For what this restaurant lacks in decor it certainly makes up in food. Yes, the surroundings aren't the most well thought out but everything is clean, lots of space, and the service was freaky fast. When you can have a big bowl of pho for $9 and leave nicely stuffed, what more can you ask for? Their broth was nicely flavored and they were quite generous on the amount of bean sprouts they provided our table. Avoid the fried spring rolls however and definitely go for the non fried version as they looked 10x tastier. read more

More like a 3.5. The problem was that the meat was like chewing on a tire. I really enjoyed the broth in my spicy beef broth soup with thick, like udon, noodles. It was only slightly spicy, but it was served with some satay sauce and the typical sriracha and red chili/sambal sauce on the table. I added some of each and with a bit of bean sprouts, lemon and basil the broth was one of the best I had. Unfortunately, in a dish with so few ingredients each ingredient has to shine and the meat pulled it down, way down. A really good addition to the pho scene in the Chantilly/Centreville area. I knew I hit jackpot when walking in and noticed almost all the clientele were Vietnamese. The menu has many offerings besides pho. I tried the stewed beef rice noodle soup, with a few pieces of stewed pork thrown in. The broth was flavorful, and the satay dipping sauce was a nice touch. I tried my wife's pho and the broth had more flavor than some of the other places we usually go to in Centreville. I would come back again without doubt. Worth the drive. read more

Every time I come in to get dinner the owner and staff are always so friendly and kind. They remember just how my daughter likes her pho, that my husband prefers the crispy spring rolls and I prefer the summer rolls. The food is always super fresh and spot on! There are so many Pho places that it's hard to compare sometimes. I've been here many times and I like their lunch special which comes with pho, summer roll and soda for around $10. Came here for the Bun Bo Hue and it was surprisingly good. Bun Bo Hue is a spicy hot beef noodle soup with fine beef shanks sate. It was flavorful and had the right amount of spice. This only comes in a large bowl only. It's definitely a lot but very good! If you're a pho lover and want to try another kind of noodle soup, get the Bun Bo Hue! First things first HORRIBLE SERVICE. My family was craving pho so we decided to eat here. We have tried this place a couple of times and it wasn't too bad so we came here every now and then. However, we won't be coming back to this place anymore. My grandma, mom, and I all ordered pho and as we were tasting it we noticed that it was very sour. Yes, my mom and I both put in a little bit of lime but it tasted like we put in at least 2 whole limes in. Out of the hundreds of times we ate pho we've never had soup that tasted this sour. My grandma didn't put any lime in so we tried her soup and what do you know it's sour as well! We called the waiter to ask what the problem was and he said he would go find out. The waiter then forgets to ask the cooks and only remembers after I raise my hand and he makes eye contact. He comes back and says that since the broth was left out in the hot weather it turned sour. So basically he was saying that he served us spoiled food. He said that they realized their mistake and won't store the broth outside anymore. We decided to call the manager and he goes on to say that the waiter doesn't know what he's talking about and that the pho is ok to eat. He goes on to being very rude and saying fine fine I'll give you half off! We didn't understand why we had to pay for food that was obviously spoiled. So he allowed us to pay just for the appetizer. Ordered the pho, spring rolls and summer rolls. Summer rolls have pork in them, (I like pork but not in summer rolls) but are still good with the peanut sauce. Spring rolls are delicious as well as the pho! Service has always been great, 5 stars for sure. I even pick up to go orders with my toddler and they are always offering to help me to the car.
