I had let the manager there know, and yet they were still trying to make us pay for the spring rolls and drinks. Wife and I stopped here on the way back from Cox Farm. Pleasantly surprised to find good pho here, but we were even happier with the staff and service. It's a great place with great food and service to match. Here's what we ordered: pho Bo (#1) and the com tam (grilled pork chop). We also ordered the lemonade (very good) and the salted plum lemonade. I liked the salted plum; wife said meh. We both agreed that it would make a great margarita lol. 4/5! Decided to try this place out with a friend on a nice cold day that called for some soup. The Food: I went with my go to Pho pick, a large bowl of Pho Tai Nam. I was also kind of hungry, so I had to pair the bowl of Pho with a crispy spring roll (Cha Gio). For the Pho, the broth was rich in flavor by itself and adding some fresh basil and bean sprouts added a nice balance to the bowl. The meat quality was okay, I've had better quality meat but it was still tasteful. A very good bowl of Pho nonetheless. As for the crispy spring rolls, there were crispy and fried perfectly! And there was a ton of meat in the inside as well! The Service: The service was great! We were seated almost immediately as there were plenty of seating in the restaurant. Our orders came out in a timely manner as well. The Atmosphere: There was plenty of seating here and the place was clean! Overall, a 4/5! Definitely a recommended spot for Pho in the area. read more

This has been one of go-to spots for Vietnamese; however, our last visit left us feeling a little underwhelmed. Just felt like everything was getting scaled back. My combination bowl of Bun with crispy roll and pork, felt like there wasn't as much pork. Bottles of Sriracha sauce and Hoisin sauces were no longer on the table. Instead, small condiment bowls were given. Also, the plate full of spouts, basil, lime dish seemed...well...less full. It's a solid 4 star and consistent for Vietnamese. The spring rolls are crispy, the fresh summer rolls are my favorite and hubby always gets B1: with chicken rather than pork (vermicelli noodle bowl with lemon chicken and crispy spring roll). Atmosphere (3/5): the inside is a typical Vietnamese restaurant (not fancy, more like a cafeteria.) Visited with a friend for lunch wanting something warm that would hit the spot on the briskly first day of Winter, and naturally phở fit the bill. We came during lunch and with plenty of open seating we were able to quickly be seated and order. The ordering process was fairly painless (bonus points for letting us order in Vietnamese). I ordered the Phở Tai Chin along with a teapot of the Jasmine Tea to share. A solid bowl of phở for sure. Meat was a bit more done than I would've liked (might've just been me taking me time eating), but nothing offensive enough to raise a big stink about. Far from the best in the area but does the job in a pinch. I haven't tried that many of the other locations in the Chantilly/Centreville area but hope to eventually to compare. read more

**TO GO REVIEW** Worth it? No Repeat? No As much as I want to love this place, it just fails me every time. Tried the Chicken Noodle Soup ( Pho Ga ) and Pho Tai multiple times. It's the only Pho place open at 9:30 in the area so I've gone multiple times and tried to see if the Pho broth improved. Unfortunately, the broth is salty without any of the richness from the beef or chicken stock. Just kind of watery, salty. I've gotten takeout from Pho restaurants further away and their noodles don't clump as bad as this place. read more

On our way back from west coast of Florida (VERY DIFFERENT than our east coast brethren) which has sooo many new Pho places. I tell you this, as my hubby just LOVES Pho. He eats it when the temperature is low. He eats it when it's triple digits. The guy's surely strange. So he loves shrimp & other seafood, & always orders the shrimp or seafood bowl. Me? I refuse to eat hot soup on a hot day! I'm not crazy! So while he's slurping the soup, I eat the spring rolls. The shrimp was always so fresh, so delicious. Here, in Pho 98, his soup was supposed to have shrimp, scallops, & squid (Do Bien). There were 5 shrimp, plenty of squid, but no scallops. The shrimp had a tough, grainy texture, & were either overcooked, freezer burned, or both. I noticed this also in my summer rolls Goi Cuon). The rolls were the skinniest I've ever eaten. The shrimps inside were also tough & grainy. No other taste. We were both terribly disappointed. The peanut sauce I love so much tasted very thick & salty. The service was good, and arrived quickly, and the restaurant decor was very nice. It was modern, clean, & visually appealing. It's a shame that the shrimps & seafood was so bad, because I really loved the beautiful fused-glass wall sconces. They doubled as both wall art & lighting! A winner in my book. My eyes & taste buds need BOTH to be happy! But my brain is the deciding factor. It won't allow my tastebuds to suffer at the expense of my pleasured eyes. No next time. read more

November 2021 - COVID Review: They're short-staffed during COVID (literally only the two owners are taking orders and serving), but my friends and I still had a good experience. I was recommended the bun bo hue here and I'm so glad I got it! It comes with a side of spicy saté sauce that you can add to your soup if you want it even spicier. It came with all of the fixings in there and it's a massive bowl! My husband had their combination pho and I tried a couple bites and that was good too. We also had some of the cha gio (egg rolls) and goi cuon (summer rolls) as appetizers, which I would also recommend. read more

Food and service have always been good here. I work across the street so my coworkers and I frequent this place plenty of times. Sometimes dine in but mostly carry out. They are always very quick with food, especially any soup orders. I tried multiple dishes and different soups and must say they are consistently good. Ever since i was a kid, this has been our go-to Vietnamese restaurant. I grew up with their pho and have measured every other bowl against it. My memories here are much like their bowls of pho--warm and hearty and shimmery and glistening. Maybe it's not the best pho in the world, but it feels like family--something consistent and safe to return to. I don't stick with one bowl, rotating my options and feeling quite satisfied each time. I like the fact that they have a variety of different meat cuts, which adds texture to the soup. In addition, the vegetables that accompany it are almost always pretty ripe, which is an often overlooked detail. And the large bowl is the perfect size, making me feel adequately satisfied. And even their take out has been quite generous, providing well-heated soup in a container that by the time you arrive home, it's hot enough to just dig in. While their pho is pretty good, I do have gripes with some of their other dishes. Their cha gio or egg rolls just aren't good enough for me; there's definitely not enough meat and it's not hearty enough. Something about their filling ratio doesn't leave enough to be desired. And for a decade plus that I've gone to their restaurant, just the other day was the first time that I've ventured to their com dishes. My mother and I were craving com tam and it was decent enough that I'll consider occasionally getting it to satisfy any future cravings. I wished they included an egg and had more bi to it. But the pork was great and I actually liked the texture of the cha trung. Not a fan of something that is super thick, but the thinness of it was pretty good, that I don't mind it. read more

They also don't have tap water, so they force you to get bottled water, which they charge you for. So on your bill, they rack up the number of bottled waters they gave you. We hadn't been here in a few years and decided to stop in for some pho. My husband said his pho was pretty good. Wish I could say the same about the rest of the meal and the service. We placed out order, and I asked for a soda. The soda came to the table with no offer of a glass or ice. My husband was never offered water; when he asked for water, he was brought a bottle, no cup or ice, and was charged for the water. The summer rolls were greasy and the texture of the filling was weird; almost like if everything inside was ground together into mush. I ordered broken rice, which I have no idea what that means, with grilled julienne pork. I figured grilled meant hot, correct? Nope, the rice was warm and the meat was ice cold and had a powdery texture to it. I asked about it thinking they forgot to heat the meat, but nope it's served cold; it doesn't say that anywhere on the menu. I couldn't eat it, and they didn't seem to care. Not only no water, but there are no condiments on the table. Twice we had to wave someone down to get any kind of service. There were three people in the front and a total of four people in the restaurant. I don't get the reason for poor service. One of the few Pho joints in my neck of the woods. When I first moved to the Chantilly area and was craving some hot soup, this is the first Pho restaurant I tried. We almost always order take out from here since it's so close to home. Employees are friendly enough and quick. There is plenty of seating inside, it's clean and spacious. I appreciate their generous portions. The Pho here is OK as far as flavor goes. The broth could be more flavorful. Their ingredients are fresh. I'm still grateful that this place exists. This was my third time at Pho 98 - and of course I've only eaten the Pho Ga. Which is what I proceeded to order - a small bowl - white meat only. We ordered our food before Ruth arrived - we weren't sure she was coming - but the wait staff was able to get her soup almost instantaneously. As others have mentioned - broth was solid - but not the best I've had. It still needed something - a bit more essence of chicken fat, maybe just a tad of glutamate. Love coming here because how convenient and close it is to me as well as how delicious it is! Only knocking off a star because I've had better but they're much further away. If you're in this area definitely check them out! Pho broth is very clean tasting and none of that msg "dirty" tainted soup. Definitely love their vermicelli though since I will always choose vermicelli over the pho soup.
