I am a fan of Philz Coffee, I often go to the one located in Castro Valley. So, when I came across the one in Fremont, I expected the same level of hospitality and quality of drinks. I had placed an order online for pick up thirty minutes prior and when I showed up, my drink still wasn't ready. I checked in twice and it looks like they had forgotten about and missed my order because it was an online order. I waited another ten minutes and still nothing. I checked in again and someone finally started on my order. Very long wait and frustrating experience. Very disappointing experience. Worst customer service, no urgency. This Philz is the only one in Fremont, and is in a busy, central location. Gets crowded pretty often but is spacious inside and does have outdoor seating. I find the drinks can be hit or miss here and I've noticed for in store orders, they don't print your ticket with your name and drink on the cup and that makes it hard to find and confirm if that drink is yours, especially since it can be loud in the store as others have mentioned, plus I'm hard of hearing, so this is an accessible thing. Looks like it's only for mobile or app orders, which is pretty weird considering I think they used to do this for in store orders as well. I don't usually get the food here. read more

Tried the breakfast burrito for the first time (egg, cheese, and potato) and it was pretty good--especially with hot sauce. The Honey Haze coffee is a favorite, with the perfect amount of sweetness. While it's not unique to the Fremont location, the staff was very friendly and helpful in sharing their recommendations. Was visiting family and they said this place was amazing. I however disagree. Sisters got some signature coffees which they thought were pretty good but nothing special. Got myself the Mission Cold Brew straight black. I've honestly had better drinks out of bottled brands. The interior is nice but it's huge and makes for a very loud and obnoxious environment between the machines, music and 8 conversations going on. Also took a long time to get our drinks and for some reason we were handed lids and basically forced to carefully put them on ourselves. Super confused on why a batista can't put the lids on, especially for the hot coffee's. I've never seen that anywhere else I've been. read more

Recently moved into the area not realizing I was right by a Philz and the service here is great! Came in this morning and was notified by the sweet girl with the piercings and glasses at the front that I qualified for a free drink so that was very nice. I noticed she was super patient and knowledgeable explaining the different drinks to each customer. The coffee is strong and delicious I love that the barista make us taste our coffee before leaving the counter. The staff are very friendly. This place has few outdoor tables. Tons of tables inside. One of my guys from work gave me a $50 so that he could buy a few cups of coffee. The only only catch was that I had to go there and buy it. I went in there with $50, and left with the same $50 bill. Just like me after my wife or daughter raid my wallet, Philz is cashless. I didn't have the app, so I couldn't order online. I ended up buying coffee for the work crew with my credit card because of their cashless policy. The coffee was good. I liked their taste of their coffee. The first time I went there years ago, they gave me a Phil discount and I think I paid cash. No Phil discount this time around. I'll be back with a coworker next time who has a credit card. I really have to complain about the time it takes to make drinks at the Fremont Philz location. Actually it's so bad that I am never coming here again. Three times in this month, I have placed a mobile order with a certain pickup time and had to wait excessively long because it was not ready at the scheduled time. This is a BIG problem. You place a mobile order via Philz app for an 8:05 pickup. Arrive on time. Wait almost 30 minutes and check in with barista who tells you they are delayed due to DoorDash orders, etc. OK? I placed an order and need it or else I will be late. This is very bad experience where you can't even cancel the drink and get a refund. It's absolutely poor customer service to have someone wait so long to get one coffee drink. Peet's coffee which is in the same shopping center whips out drinks so quickly that you would be amazed. I've never had a problem with them and really it makes me wonder why this place runs drinks so slow. Telling my friends and coworkers that all work nearby to NOT come here. read more

Giving this specific Philz location 3 stars which I feel is a fair rating. We've been supporting this location since they first opened in Fremont and continue to even though we don't live in the area anymore. The service and drinks aren't always consistent. Drinks are sometimes made with love and other times not so much. Same goes for the service. The employees could be awesome one day, terrible another day. The bathroom isn't the cleanest but not terrible. During peak hours, it's difficult to find parking which I understand is no fault of Philz. It's just a busy plaza. I have to say that I still love Philz but this location could use some improvements. During my last visit, I was a bit annoyed because there was who I thought was a customer talking to the only barista making drinks. She was blocking the pick up counter even after multiple customers would excuse themselves to get their drinks including myself. It dawned on me that they were probably friends as they kept talking and talking. We were there in the evening around 7ish and there weren't too many customers but still, don't block the pick up counter. Emily was the barista and she could've asked that person to step aside a bit so she wasn't blocking everyone's way, but she didn't. Emily even seemed annoyed when I asked her for stoppers. She had the audacity to say "what's up?" in a annoying tone like I was bothering her. On top of that, our drinks weren't ready at the time promised (hmm, I wonder why) and we requested for no ice in one of our cold brews because my daughter wanted to save some of her drink to bring to work the next day and she doesn't like it watered down. And of course there was ice and we didn't notice until we were long gone. Made with love?? I think not. Anyway, just needed to vent because it wasn't a good experience. This is the only Philz near me so I decided to come try them out. They have good customer service and it's pretty clean inside. My review is only based on their seasonal drink. As I love me some fall flavor drinks. I ordered their Large Spiced Vanilla Soul. "Creamy Spiced Vanilla Oat Mik, Sweet Sugar, Iced". It's very different to other coffee shops seasonal drinks but not in a bad way. If you like a very spiced forward drink then this is the one for you. However this drink was not to my liking. I'd definitely come back to try something more regular on the menu. But for this drink I'd give it a 5/10. read more

Lots of parking outside and right next to ikes/ indian movie theatre. The inside ambience was welcoming and pleasant. I kept standing patiently in line for 15 mins (i was the only one in line) and still my turn didnt come. They had 3 servers but still everyone kept doing what they were doing and no one even bothered to take the order. Maybe next time i will try ordering ahead or come by only when i have an hour to pick up a coffee from a casual coffee place. It's been over 6 years since I had my first coffee date here with my longtime ex. Besides the awkward memory, I moved on this time by treating myself to their seasonal menu during fall and winter mornings because their lattes are a bit pricey, but it's worth sipping since it's handcrafted. Vanilla Date Delight (Fall Special)- got it in hot with a hint of dates and vanilla; a bit sweet with medium sugar Roasted Chicken & Golden Rice Burrito- good chicken, but the burrito was small as McDonald's breakfast and a bit expensive Winter Bliss (Winter Special)- this one warmed my soul with its hot Ghiradelli mocha with a hint of cinnamon spice. Best to drink it with light sugar so I don't crash later in the afternoon Turkey Sausage Sandwich: It's cheesy with a thick turkey patty. It's more like a healthier version of McDonald's Sausage muffin with much more protein. It's best to eat it right away. I prefer ordering in person since I only order something through an app or Doordash. It usually takes over 5 minutes to wait for a cup of latte. Then another 5 minutes for the food to come out. It would be nice to serve both at the same time, but the baristas have to make a lot of coffee for online and in-person orders. The tables behind the bench need some TLC since it has crumbs from previous customers. The cafe inside is a bit noisy to read and study, but the outdoor seats are more quiet. read more

I got their seasonal blueberry drink during the spring and it was so good. The workers were nice, and despite the massive amount of orders, they were getting through them pretty quickly. There is a moderate amount of seating now, but considering how many people are always there it's usually hard to find a place to sit. The couch is super comfy though. read more

I do think that there's a lot of indoor seating and this would be a cool place to study our work. The music is not too loud and it's a good working environment. The staff is super nice and they're great with giving recommendations and what to get--that's how I found out about the iced coffee rosé and it's one of my favorite coffee drinks right now. Please don't go here if you're expecting a quick coffee stop. Maybe I've just had bad luck, but the last three times I've ordered from this Fremont location, my drinks have taken 30-45 minutes, even in the middle of the day (around 1-3 PM). The ETA in the app is totally inaccurate, always saying 10-15 minutes, but it's never even close. To be fair, the baristas are friendly, but they're constantly chatting with each other and socializing behind the counter, and it's honestly hard to get their attention sometimes. When you've already been waiting half an hour for a simple coffee, that makes it even more frustrating. The drinks themselves are fine, but the long waits, inaccurate ETAs, and lack of urgency from the staff make the whole experience not worth it. Walking into the Union City location, the familiar aroma of freshly ground beans and the bustling atmosphere instantly brought me back to those days. I'm done with Philz, esp this location. I use the mobile app to order ahead. Today it's a simple pour over and a burrito. 35 min of lead time seems excessive, but fine, I'll wait until that time. However, every time I go there, they exceed the quoted time. It should not take nearly 40 min to get a pour over (not even a mixed coffee drink) and a burrito zapped in the oven. Ain't nobody got time for that!! I get to my office and open my 40 min wait time burrito to see a tiny, shriveled burrito that looks far from appetizing. I believe that this is my second time dining in at Philz. It's a good place to work and study. They have a long blue table with a bunch of plugs for your devices. It's better than other cafes because it's hard finding a table that has a plug next to them. Also, everything isn't too crowded when sitting at that table. I used to walk in and order but with the online apps, I get my order the moment I walk in. Make sure you have the right store or location before ordering. If you're a regular customer, you can order the same item as a repeat customer. My favorite is the Tesora. It has a little chocolate flavor with your coffee. Of course, they also have several dark and medium coffee selections. I've noticed that they're busy in the morning and expect your online order to take 20-30 minutes to prepare. If you live a short distance from the store, you've enough time to pick up your order. All of their baristas are nice. I always come in with a smile on their face.
