I brought my new puppy over to PetSmart to pick up some toys and clothes for him. The staff were very respectful and didn't touch my puppy without asking. When I put the puppy on the floor to see how he looked in something I put on him one of the staff knelt down to look at him...all the sudden this yellow snake comes right at the puppy from under a display thing. I stood there thinking it was fake, it was a couple days before Halloween anyway. The guy jumped back about 5 feet and I grabbed the puppy. No one wanted to touch the snake and I got a giggle out of seeing them all run around trying to find something to scoop it up with. The only reason I don't give this PetSmart 5 stars is, well, because it's PetSmart and they are over priced...unfortunately. read more

Today I went in to get some items for my dog. I was really upset about my experience when I asked an associate for help finding a product. In my hand I already had dog food and a prong collar. I was asking for a spray we had gotten at the store before called "Stop That" because our dogs get to barking every time there is a sound at our new house. When I asked her where it was she went on to tell us that it is not a good product and is only a band-aid and wouldn't fix the problem. It only scares them. She went on to tell me that the collar in my hand is also frowned upon because it doesn't actually train them it just scares them. And how even Petco doesn't carry them anymore. She went even further to explain that training is really the best option to get them to listen to commands. I felt very judged by all the unsolicited advice she was giving. When she was done giving me the whole speech about how the products I was using were poor choices, she didn't even tell me where the product was. I had to ask her again to tell me where the product was that I originally asked for. I was upset because she never asked what problems I was having with my pet or if I needed advice. She has no idea what my situation is with my pet and just made me feel like a terrible pet owner. The judgement was really unnecessary. Then when I was paying the product was ringing up for more than the price tag said it would be. Even though I told her the price was higher than it said the cashier just told me the dog food was not on sale. After I went back to the shelf where I got it and checked the exact price tag to make sure they then offered me to return the item. This is the second time we have bought something that was higher than the price listed on the shelf. The time before they had the products on the wrong shelf, but didn't honor the price either. THEN I decided I wanted to call the store and speak with a manager. And the phone rang over and over and over for three minutes before I finally hung up. Needless to say, we wont ever be shopping at PetSmart again. read more

Upgraded from 1 to 3 stars. Glad I called the next day and spoke to the Store Manager, Derrick. He quickly investigated my concerns and called back to discuss factors that may have contributed to Bear's unfavorable visit. I do think that part of the issue could also be that as my dog gets older, he becomes less tolerant of stressful situations. Good news is that Bear seems to be slightly better than yesterday. As recommended by Derrick, I will give them another try in a couple of months with another groomer. Thank you for keeping my faith in PetSmart, much appreciated! PREVIOUS REVIEW: Today, Bear had his first (and last) grooming appointment at the Phoenix Camelback location. I dropped him off at 8am and picked him up 4 hrs later as expected. He was provided a good report but was quiet and listless since I picked him up even as strangers were able to talk to him without even a bark. This behavior is quite abnormal as he is quite protective of me, has separation anxiety, and is always talkative; even noted by his groomer. Tonight, Bear is slow moving and appears to be sensitive to the touch as he yelps when touched even lightly. In all of our years with PS, Bear has always received excellent care and service even when he stays at PetsHotel 3-4 times a year. Not sure what happened today but with Bear fast approaching 14 years old, I cannot afford to have him mistreated; which is what I assuming at this point. I will travel out of the way to take him to a store that I am more familiar with and trust their service. Moreover, his whiskers were shaved off and a couple of spots were missed. read more

Went into buy stuff for a reptile I just purchased and while asking questions about which lighting I should purchase for my reptile, the guy stated I should upgrade his tank as soon as possible... And then proceeded to tell me he didn't know much about lighting or the reptile so he left to find someone else to help me. My reptile is a hatchling and needs a smaller environment for right now as he's a baby he cannot be in a large environment yet, that leads to possibly injury. I'm very educated in this species and the size terrarium they need. Anyways, the girl who proceeded to help me with a light fixture and bulb was super rude, she was also the one to check me out at the register her name I believe was Angela. The grooming experience here was horrible. I have a Silver Lab we brought in for a 6 PM appointment. Not but 5 minutes after I dropped him off they were calling and saying they were not going to compete because the dog became aggressive. This is bs, because this dog is the most docile and gentle dog i have ever met. Either the groomer was either lazy and didnt want to do any work, or they have almost zero dog handling experience. Whether it was one or the other, bot are unacceptable. Would of given less then a star if I could. read more

Selection pretty poor and customer service out the door. Why go here? I have found better service at Walmart. Petsmart your inventory is lacking and the girls working on 2/23 at 4pm at the cash register were more interested in their phones and social media than assisting any customers and you had quite a few come in. Re: Grooming Salon. Specifically, Katie, the cat handler. It is near to impossible to find cat groomers in this town. Some vets offer the service but after today's visit to Petsmart I won't go anywhere else. So the deal is I have a demon cat. Well, she's lovely and adorable with me, but for some reason fears all pet workers. No clue why, nothing bad has ever happened to her. Katie works Tuesday through Friday and starts at 7am, which I can appreciate because no one else should have to witness the dramatics my cat puts on. I arrived after calling ahead to see if Katie could shave Josie's haunches, so as to avoid bits clinging to her backside (gross.) Katie got an E-collar on Josie and told me she was going to have to scruff her while she worked, which was just fine with me because the cat was screaming like a murder victim and otherwise being embarrassing. In less than ten minutes the job was done (for only $6!) and Josie was back in her carrier like nothing happened. Look, I had a veterinarian tell me that if I brought Josie in for any grooming they would SEDATE her, and she also recommended I get her declawed, which I believe is inhumane. Maybe Katie considers what she does completely normal and reasonable, but she's the first professional who has worked with Josie...professionally. I know my cat is a total freak but I can't shave her ass myself, so thank god Katie is at Petsmart. Seriously. read more

When I need a more specialized pet item or food that I can't get at Safeway/Target/Walmart I come here. On this trip I needed some enzyme based cleaner to treat an area some stinky stray cat keeps marking on my patio and I decided to transition my 14lb kitty from Iams Indoor Hairball/Weight Management to a more high protein food, Blue Buffalo Wilderness which they carry. I have found that some of the items here are a tad pricier than the Target/Walmarts but they do have a bigger selection. But I often find myself coming here if not in the mood to brave either location. read more

I had my dog groomed here over the holiday weekend (tried to get him in other places, but they were al booked). The experience was fairly good. The girls who worked there were friendly and the puppy came out smelling good and minus all his matted hair (just got him from the shelter). I am new father to a lil pup Hemingway. I went to store for some tips on crate training and received far more knowledge then I went for. Deborah greeted my pup and I almost immediately. She was friendly and with her nutritionist background we got Hemingway (french bulldog)on a new diet. He had already been having stomach issues with food breeder had advised. Days on the food and he is already eating more, and he is having less stomach issues. She also followed me around carrying everything for us since he was too young to put down. She seriously saved the day and was a pleasure talking to. I would recommend he for sure. read more

Grooming Salon I've tried many groomers thru out the the valley including other Pet Smarts and this one, is in my view, the best my two aussies have gone to. Price wise they are competitive, if not a little less than other groomers in town. My dogs turn out perfect every time they go here. Sylvia normally grooms them but I've been happy with all of the groomers here. When I picked them up a few days ago, all the groomers and stations were busy, all of the dogs looked so picture perfect, I felt I was on a movie set featuring dogs. The shampoo they use, have my dogs coming out shiny and glossy - wish my own hair looked this good. The groomers all seem to like their jobs and are really into what they do. Every time my dogs get groomed here they get compliments from every one that sees them. read more

Finally got my Sheltie the other day; trip to PetSmart was unavoidable due to the essentials I needed to get that couldn't wait for online purchase. I was pleasantly surprised! I'd heard things about the prices - but apparently there was some sort of sale going on and I was able to gather a plethora of puppy goodies for not a lot of dough. Everything seemed to be one sale! My puppy, needless to say, was very happy with me. My one real qualm with this place was that we needed a dog tag, paid for a dog tag, and when we stuck it in the machine for the engraving, it came with a mandatory Petsmart logo. Sure, it may be genius advertising in disguise, but the idea that I'm paying the same thing I would online and Petsmart gets to sneak in a bit of free advertising makes me all snarly, especially when I'm subjecting my new beloved pet to be the billboard. Low blow, Petsmart; low blow. Aside from that, I loved the product selection and the employees were friendly and very helpful. I also kinda dug the pet classes they held here, although I would love to see something more communal and less profit-based in the downtown Phoenix vicinity. Definitely go when they're having their sales; the prices for dog toys had been marked from $7-9 bucks per toy down to $2-4 bucks, and that in my book, is pretty OK. read more

This salon used to be good but is now UNSAFE After talking my dogs there for years, I've realized they do not keep people very long. At least not the good, trusted team. The most recent trip resulted in an ocular chemical burn from shampoo (right eye) and conjunctivitis in the other ----$350 later my dog is recovering. I will not recommend or use this location again. I come here weekly to buy crickets for my lizards. There aren't a ton of reptile stores in my area, so this petsmart is my go-to. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. Several of them also own lizards, so they are fairly knowledgeable, and almost always have worms and super worms available for purchase as well. Other petsmarts I've been to often don't have crickets, or anything I can feed my water dragon and Leopard gecko, but this location is always stocked! They are in a very active shopping center, so they are always busy. Sometimes I have to wait a little while for assistance, and parking can be a pain due to construction in the area. Other than those minor details, I've never had an issue. As far as other pet items go, I take my business elsewhere. I can find much better prices for the same or better items at a wholesale pet store near my house. Unless I'm just picking up a quick treat for my dogs, or don't have time make a second trip, it isn't worth it. read more

So this may not be the most helpful review but I was turned off from the moment I called the store to see if they had a certain product. A little history: my poor fish, Effie, is suffering from the big C: Constipation! That's right! My poor little blocked up Effie can't make things happen and she's floating around like a fish whose had one too many fish cocktails, wobbling back and forth because she's too heavy to control her direction! It's seriously sad watching her struggle and it seems I've exhausted all of my Google-searched methods until I came across a product called Daphnia. Apparently it's some type of dried up worm or something that helps... alleviate some of the blockage! Since this was my last resort and I only had time during my lunch break to get this, I'd thought I should call Petsmart to ensure they actually have it! When I asked the employee on the phone if she had the product, she immediately replied with a cold "no." No "let me check to see," or "I'm not sure, let me find out," but just "no." So I was left with an awkward silence and disappointment as I quietly said "...oh. Ok. Well, thanks?" Something just didn't sit well with me after that. Anyway, I decided to go with a more local pet shop, which was right down the street. The guy working there was SO friendly and helpful, and as I told him the story about Petsmart, he replied "I'm pretty sure they do have this same exact product over there." Needless to say, I won't bother going in that Petsmart from the phone call alone. Are the employees that lazy that they can't even check to see if there's a product? I love the salon. I took my four month puppy there for his first time. He was shedding and since he was a puppy he gets into stuff all the time so it was time to get rid of the stinky puppy smell. They make the appointment process easy, they called Banfield Pet hospital to verify his rabies shot so he could go. The check-in was quick, they told me what they were going to do and the exact time it would take. It took 2.5 hours and they called to let me know. When I arrived my puppy Jax was ready for a commericial, he looked great! Upon leaving they give you a completed report card of how he did and some coupons for the store. Wonderful experience, only thing I didn't see was a gratuity area on the charge slip. Guess I'll need to bring some cash next time. Thanks Petsmart grooming! read more

I was in the area and stopped in for a cheap toy. The store was very clean. I didn't find anything good in the clearance bin and ended up with a snake toy for $4.49. My dogs played with it for a few minutes before losing interest. They are really into the ZippyPaws burrow toys now. read more

This is our local Petsmart and we love it. The training classes have been great for our growing Aussie, the grooming salon LOVES him and he always comes out looking handsome and dashing. So clean... until he comes home and runs in the dirt. Sigh. They also carry the food that he can eat as he has a poultry intolerance. Super disappointment in this store and their customer service. I placed an in-store pick up order online at 10am on Monday, 7/17/17. Five hours later, since I was headed down in that area for another errand, I called the store to check the status of my order. The manager told me they hadn't done it yet but she promised it's be done in 30 min. So I went and ran my other errands then showed up a little bit early just hoping that they were finishing up. When I finally got someone to get the manager I was told it still wasn't done. They hadn't even looked at it. I was in the store for another 45 min waiting while they got the order picked. And the manager was barely apologetic. I feel like petsmart let me down, if you tell your customer that their order will be done at a certain time, you need to make sure it's done by the promised time. Everytime i come here i feel inadequate about the experience. Lack of knowledge about animals and 20 minutes later, i still couldn't get the minnows i wanted. Watching the 2 reps help their 1 customer each, rep A couldnt catch the little fish. a few minutes of struggle and rep B hanging with a guy just confused about what to do about how to help the guy, missed my appointment thinking a quick trip for a turtle snack would be a quick trip. read more

The groomer (never tried him out before, but had to since my dogs other groomer left.) called and let me know my dog peed in the kennel and rolled in it.. this has NEVER happened with him before. I come here for my pups toys and occasionally bring her to the groomers here. The staff is always super helpful & knowledgeable of many of the items they carry. The prices are decent for the toys, so I usually stock up on a few each visit. Parking can be a bit of problem since this location is in a busy plaza. read more

I have always found it difficult to get help at this location. This store was pretty dead when I went today. I could not find the brand of dog food I had been buying here for years so I asked an employee, and she told me "yes and that it was on the very last aisle" I looked again for twenty-five minutes. I then got to stand and wait for five more minutes while she discussed with her manager how someone was coming in and they were getting 30% off, because "their call center sucks". Instead of helping me after I wait for them to stop talking they both walk away. I am sick of the horrible service at this store and have finally had enough. i went in to exchange my BRAND NEW, STILL IN PACKAGE aquarium filter, and was told that without a receipt, I would not be able to exchange it. this goes for all aquarium products over $10. the manager was surprisingly rude, and didn't even attempt to save my business as i walked out of the door with my money that i will never spend at this pitiful excuse for a pet store. Brought in my aging chow for bath and haircut, which I refused service. Groomer seemed very inexperienced. She said my dog was matted all over and she would need to shave her. Also she was pushing expensive shampoos that I didn't want. Quoted us at $140, which is when I refused. My dog has a lot of fur, but she was only matted on her legs. Normally we have an awesome groomer at the Tempe Petsmart, but she was booked up and my work schedule has been crazy. I get chows are a lot of work, and I tip well, but I'm not going to hand her over to groomers who I do not trust. I wouldn't trust these groomers to have compassion for my aging dog or respect for how I would like her groomed. They did not want to listen to what I wanted for my own 11yr old dog, and did not seem to know how to handle dogs with a lot of fur other than to use the furminator shampoo, which dries out my dogs skin. She acted like she couldn't use regular shampoo, but that is erroneous as my regular groomer has used regular shampoo on my dog for years! Incompetent and insensitive. No thank you! read more
