My first golden was a sweet as he could be but could NOT walk in a leash and we did all the petsmart classes. It took Chad the owner two minutes to fix the issue. So then we took all the classes. And then I got a puppy and did the classes again :) and ended up with two great behaved dogs. Then I moved to SC - and now each dog I get I travel back to Arizona for their three week training. I was a little apprehensive about leaving our 6-month old puppies for 3 weeks at Hunter Canine's training retreat, but once we arrived, Chad and Violet put all of our worries at ease. We found out about Hunter Canine and our fabulous trainer Violet from another happy client. We had recently adopted a rescue puppy that was poorly socialized and fearful of just about everything. He was resource guarding, refused to leave the house unless I was with him and just generally scared and miserable all the time. We opted for the 3 week in-home program with trainer Violet and she worked wonders on our pup. Not only did they teach him to heal and walk beautifully, he's confident, he's happy and he's relaxed. We just picked up our 3 y/o golden retriever Harvey from his 3 week board and train. I'm completely blown away with the progress that he's made in such a short amount of time. We originally brought him in for pulling on the leash, ignoring commands, and general restlessness no matter how much physical activity he had. We have friends who took their dogs here and we were shocked at how the dog still behaved, but we also know our friends were a little lax with the instructions. We decided to take our pittie pup here to get some help with his insane energy and lack of listening skills. He was a bit too rough with our older dogs and we wanted to make sure we were going to be able to keep a peaceful home without having all our furniture destroyed. I saw a huge difference in Rosco the first time I went for a lesson. He was prancing around with a huge smile on his face and his tail would not stop wagging, as he stared at Chad waiting for his next command. He looked like a happier, more relaxed pup, and I was so excited to see how much better he was at my next lesson. Since we entertain a lot, it is very important to have dogs who mind, listen, and aren't too crazy when we have a house full of people. Our friends were immediately commenting on how different Rosco was and they were shocked that he was so calm and well behaved. I took my Dobermans to swim or dock diving classes at Hunter Canine for many years. Great facility and the dock diving trainer is great. I have had a recent issue with them because they refused to issue a credit for the next session when I did not take my dogs to 2 classes because there was a heat advisory out. I even called to see if they were holding the class that night and they said yes. My dog is black and very high drive and I did not feel having him do anything in that heat was wise so just did not go. When I went to sign up for the next session and asked for credit for the 2 nights when there were heat advisories I was told NO because class was held and not cancelled. read more

She was amazing with our dog Archie, helped him through some medical issues he had while devoting every attention to detail when it came to training. Natasha, our 5 month old labradoodle is so good since she came home, that she is a pleasure to be with, to take on walks, to cuddle with and eveything else. Our 5 month old Lab puppy Emmie just completed Hunter Canine's 3 week board and train program with Erica. We are completely blown away by Emmie's new leash skills, and it is an absolute delight to walk her now. Before the training, she would drag me all over the road to get to any blowing leaves or occasional passers-by. Now she will sit calmly by my side and let distractions go by, then go right back into a perfect heel position. The place cot training is also invaluable in our busy household. My dog Tahani and I just completed a 6 week beginner obedience class. It's amazing and surprising to me how well she responded to this training. I rescued My dog from a rescue agency at 7 months old. He suffers from anxiety and being a larger dog it can be quite intimidating to others when I would attempt to walk him. He chewed, peed indoors and tore everything up, given he was still a pup. He did get a little excited when he would see a few smaller dogs, but I was trained on how to handle his excitement. My husband and I have worked with several different training facilities over the years with our dogs. We learned and grew as handlers from each class we took. We have worked with a variety of tools and methods, based on what our dogs responded best to (not every tool/method works for every dog). With that being said we felt we knew a lot but Hunter took our education to an entirely different level. We are far better handlers after going through Hunter's training than ever before. They not only give you the tools to train your dog but they provide education and explanations for you to learn to be a better handler. Anyone can train your dog but it takes a special group to 'train' you... Hunter is that group. We decided to take our rescued 2 yo Belgian Malinois to Hunter after having her almost a year and not getting the results we wanted. She was dog reactive/aggressive on a leash. When she saw another dog on a walk she would pull, lunge, bark, snap; this was complete freak out mode and we couldn't re-direct her. We wanted to be able to take her places and get started in different dog sports but her reactivity made it nearly impossible. I refuse to send my dogs anywhere without meeting the people and seeing the facility first so Andrew scheduled a meet with us prior to us committing to any training. We were impressed with what we saw and bumped up our initial plan of doing training in June to February. We signed her up for their training retreat for 4 weeks with Andrew. I didn't expect much because, well, we had done everything to try to solve her reactivity with very little success. BUT Andrew gave us the tools we needed and a miracle! Andrew and the other trainers far exceeded my expectations. Once we picked up our dog, we practiced what Andrew taught us at home and attended the follow-up classes. We also are going to start her in Intermediate obedience to keep her and us learning. We've taken her out for walks and participated in Barn Hunt with little to no issues (she is in drive mode so that is why we expect to experience little issues). The big test was taking her to the Phoenix Pet Expo at WestWorld just 3 weeks post training retreat. We took her to the event and she behaved wonderfully. Dogs were walking past her and she didn't react at all. She also finished up Hunter's swim class last month and she had a blast. Attending wouldn't have been possible without her training with Andrew. We look forward to more swim classes and maybe dock diving in her future! Don't be fooled they can train your dog but it is up to you to continue the work and learn from them. Life has been easier with her trained. It is the best money I have spent in a long time. AMAZING!! Hunter Canine took my "babies" (full grown boxers), and taught them how to be a pleasure to have in the house, on a walk, or when guests are around. Everything I was hoping for. I chose the 2 week sleep away camp so I wouldn't screw them up between classes. How much can a dog learn in 2 weeks? Answer: more than most people! They learned how to not drown. (I would say swimming but that sounds like an enjoyable activity which for them it is not.) They learned how to alert to rattlesnakes which was extremely important to me since I have a young daughter. They also learned all the basic commands. They have manners now! And I have an immensely better understanding of my dogs! Although Hunter Canine offers training for guard dogs, that wasn't what I was looking for. I just wanted people, like my 96 yr old grandfather, to be able to come to the house without getting knocked down or annoyed. I brought my black lab puppy here after she was being a little difficult. I wasn't used to the Labrador barking or the slight stubbornness (aka: attitude) my pup brought with her. I was feeling like she'd look at me and say "I don't have to listen to you! You're not my real mom!" :-) All jokes aside, I spoke with Chad to go over any concerns I was having. I booked Mason for the in-home training retreat and she lived with Justin for 3 weeks. When I say she was 90% reformed afterwards, I mean it. She went in when she was around 5 or 6 months old and was in dire need of impulse control. We're still working on that, she's still a puppy. Follow up classes are so helpful and definitely needed for continued success. I've been slacking on the follow up courses, but plan to start again soon. I'm happy to report that she's still doing awesome now at a little over 1 year old. I get compliments all the time on how well behaved she is, even when she's extra excited around other dogs and people. She's not barking, pulling, etc. She comes when called, which is SO important. We had a bit of a scare last month when she was off leash (bad human--I have a habit of dropping her leash and having her walk next me when my hands are full) and she was startled by an unfamiliar noise. She took off running and all I had to do was call her name and say "whoa", and she stopped dead in her tracks. She came back when I said "come". I attribute this responsiveness to Hunter Canine's training. I was able to build upon what HC instilled in her and customize her training to our needs. Anyway, cannot say enough about this place. I can't say enough good things about our experiences with Hunter Canine. We took our standard poodle puppy at 6 months in 2019. It was a game changer! When we decided to get another puppy this year I immediately registered the puppy for the 3 week stay at 6 months. Our puppy was a handful and I wasn't even sure he was going to be a good fit for our family. He had zero attention, couldn't sit for more than 2 seconds, and loved to bark. Then Voila! After a little vacation to Hunter and with Violet's expertise we now have a new puppy! It is an investment, but worth it! Violet was awesome to reach out to let me know that our puppy was doing great with pics and updates. She is still easy for me to send a quick text with any questions or just cute pics.
