My Mom took her puppy, Coal, to Rob's Dogs; Nathan was his trainer. From start to finish, the whole experience was top-of-the-line. From their first meeting at the intake, to the 2-week "boot camp", they provided reassurance and updates. My 81 year old mom moved to an urban setting with a small yard and a neighborhood with lots of small, yappy dogs that sets off reactivity in her German Shepherd. Although the dog has been through several training programs, she had recently reverted back to being reactive on leash: barking, pulling, and lunging at any dog that barked at her or gave her a "look". Thankfully I found Rob's Dogs through a search online. Rob offers dog training either through individual sessions sold as a packet of 8 or 3, or you can elect to do a board and train method. Since my mom's dog had done two board and trains with other training facilities in Florida and Texas, I opted for the individual sessions sold as a packet of 3. Not to disparage the other training schools, I want to note that the dog had learned a great deal of commands, but she was a little rusty and selective when doing them and was selectively reactive on leash around other dogs. What we needed was a trainer that could come to my mom's neighborhood and see the dog being reactive in the environment where she was going to be walked. Thankfully Rob's Dogs offered this as an option. It cost a significant amount to do this, but it was possible. The additional cost was for the mileage and drive time to my mom's place. We had a meet and greet at the facility. Rob, the owner, met with us and got the back story on the dog and the current behavior problems. He took the dog and walked her around a bit and near other dogs, tested her response to commands and leash pressure. He explained the package options available to us. He also made us aware that we would be using both a prong collar and e-collar to reinstate her former training. We had these tools, but my mom hadn't used them with the dog since she left Florida, and I had never used them. We were assigned a trainer who was contracted by Rob. Lauryn was super friendly and had a love and full understanding of the German Shepherd breed. She herself had a German Shepherd. She went over the operation of the two collars which I was not familiar with at all. Rob's dogs sent us a link and password so that we could watch some important training videos. His website also had some very useful training tips. I highly recommend watching/reading this information carefully and then reviewing it again each week. It's easy for owners to slip into bad habits quickly which results in their dogs behaving in ways they don't want. You will have to enforce rules and get into a routine. Restrictions can be lifted once the dog consistently behaves as desired. You will find that YOU will have to do the hard work. The trainer and Rob's Dogs will assess your current situation and give you the tools and training to use those tools to reinforce good behaviors. It won't happen overnight. You will need to work with the dog for at least an hour each day to reinforce the seven commands and expectations. As I mentioned, we only had three sessions. This training was going to determine whether or not my mom could keep and handle her dog. Immediately after the first session, we started using the tools and putting restrictions in place inside the house to set the law of the land. Right away, we noticed a difference. While the dog was already really well behaved in the house, it improved her response to us when we walked her outside of the house. The prong collar made a drastic difference in her behavior when she saw other yappy dogs on the walk. I no longer had to worry about her lunging, pulling or barking incessantly in an aggressive stance. She still got up, moved forward, and barked once, but it was all very controlled. I didn't have to use all of my strength to hold her back. The real test came when my mom was able to walk her dog around other yappy dogs. After session two, my mom was easily able to do this, and I felt confident that continuing this training would allow my mom to keep her dog. Her German Shepherd is sometimes still reactive, but it is much more controlled and manageable now. In time, and with continued consistent practice, I believe my mom's dog will eventually stop the reactivity altogether. She has already shown amazing progress and only slips occasionally. If you are looking for effective dog training (well, really we know it is human training to learn how to effectively communicate with the dog), then consider Rob's Dogs. You will work hard to get your dog's behavior issues resolved, but the longterm results will allow you to have a wonderful relationship with your pet. read more

I would give them a zero rating if possible...$1,500 wasted on nothing. We made it clear that our dog was previously being trained as a service dog before we moved to the State of Arizona. Our dog passed the CGC and tricks test with AKC prior to enrolling. It was a constant struggle with our trainer trying to teach our dog new commands instead of just using the ones she already knew along with hand signals. Don't waste our money and time on amateurs... And here we are MONTHS later and I am STILL getting harassed with comments from the owner about my experience. If he was a stronger, more confident, mature person, the initial review would have been met with a profession and courteous remark and he would have moved on. "You can't please everyone 100%; you can't always get ALL 5 star reviews". If you knew that the possibility of less than glorious feedback would DESTROY you mentally, you should have been more gracious and friendly during our meeting I guess. I had a similar experience yesterday. I had called earlier in the week to find out more about the business. I asked on the phone was the charges were and I was told that they would be given to me during my evaluation appointment. I brought both of my dogs in, one that I had had for many years that was reasonably well trained but hard of hearing and I needed some help and the other was a new adoption that had never been trained. I do not feel that the evaluation was that in depth nor was I asked specifically what my goals were. I finally got the prices at the end of the visit but only because I asked what the prices were. It would have been helpful if I was told on the phone before I made my appointment that the prices were on the website as Rob mentioned in a previous reply to a poor review. The other thing that confused me was that I spent maybe 45 minutes with a trainer but that trainer would not be the one training my dogs. That I do not understand. I have used trainers in the past and I always was able to meet them right upfront. The last item that really turned me off was that if my dog or dogs go through a one week in house training I then pick them up and I receive a two hour session and that is that. No scheduled in home or private lesson to make sure things are going well. Dog training is as much about training the human as it is the dog. How can you train the human in two hours. Sure I can schedule a follow up visit if there are issues but when asked how long do I have to wait to get a follow up visit I was told pretty quick. For context, the next available board and train slot is January 8th- almost a month away. I told the trainer that I like to be hands on with my dogs and was more interested in private lessons. That did not seem to go over well. I feel like I was being pushed into the board and train but both are represented on the website. The cost BTW for board and train is $2250 for basic fundamentals- 1 week, one week full on leash- $3750 and 5 private lessons $1500 per dog or $2250 for both. If I do private lessons I am required to spend 2 hours per day in training! Seriously, if you work full time who had two hours after work to train your dog? What dog can tolerate 2 hours of training? Dogs that are in training each have a limit to how long a training session can go on before they need a break. Well at least IMHE. My little Odin was very friendly to everyone, he would scratch for attention, not listen my my recalls from being pet by strangers and it was cute and all but began to be too much. He loved EVERYONE!! I ended up wanting to invest in his long term behavior so I OPTED for personal training. I got Katelin and she was AMAZING, I highly recommend her. I don't want to leave a bad review but I did want to express that I went in for the meet and greet. I don't respect a business that doesn't list their prices. I knew I'd be in for a sales pitch. I don't believe that the prices would be different if they were posted. I just had hip surgery and don't appreciate having to come in to hear about a service that's outside of my budget. I was very excited to get my new rescue puppy last month and quickly realized that we needed a little more help getting her adjusted. I had seen several ads for Rob's Dogs and figured I would reach out to gather more information about the process, what would be a good fit for us, price, etc. So I used my break to fill out the online information questionnaire since I knew I was limited on time and shared that email is my preferred method of communication but still gave my phone number as I figured it would be needed eventually. I made sure to state that if they could email me with several options to schedule a time I would then call them with one that worked. I pretty quickly get a call which I had forwarded to voicemail since I was back at work. I realize it's from Rob's Dogs and found a second to call back to reiterate that email was a lot easier for me to schedule times if she could do that. Literally first words out of my mouth was "you just called but I'm at work and will be until after 10p and email is a lot easier for me to communicate to schedule". My goodness you would have thought I was asking her to build a computer from scratch from playdoh, and the attitude that she had with it. I was informed very rudely that they aren't doing evaluations anymore, but also was told "after you schedule your training the evaluation will happen before the first session. But I can schedule for a time for me to call you back when you have more time". So not only am I confused by this statement about the evaluation because it wasn't making since, but also am I am trying to get her to email me the the information so that I can call them back when I am not at work. With her just repeating that they don't do evaluations anymore and I needed to schedule I realize this wasn't a place I felt comfortable to have them train my pup, since communication clearly isn't a strong suit. So I simply said never mind I will get her trained myself with another company. I eventually had to hang up as I was getting frustrated and needed to get back to work. 10 minutes later I got a text basically upset at me for trying to get the information about how things work and why would want an evaluation if I didn't want any dog training? To say I feel attacked is an understatement. Her level of unprofessionalism is unmatched by feeling it was okay or appropriate to text me after our last interaction. She not only chose to ignored my request for email communication, called and left a message (which was not an issue to be clear) but then was rude to me over the phone when I ask for email correspondence with the information needed, then had the audacity to then text me with your rude attitude after I said I would find another company to help me. I don't know if it's just her and she needs some restraining herself or if the whole company is like this but I'm not one to risk it to hope I'm wrong. I would not recommend this company as there isn't even a way to make an appointment for information to learn more that what's on the website if you're having dealing with Julianna unless you enjoy being disrespected and attacked. But who knows these days companies hire and keep like minded individuals. Just my experience please make your own decision for yourself and your preferences. read more

My beautiful 5 month old standard poodle was a nightmare when I brought her home, she had no manners and zero training. Our big, young, 90# boxer boy was jumping on people and pulling at the leash every time someone came over to our house or if we took him some place out in public. Walking him with our other dog was quite difficult as well. We took him to Rob for three sessions and that was all he needed to learn the basics. Working with him at home and always being consistent is so important. Each session, our dog was ready to move on to the next task with Rob. He has responded well to what Rob has taught us. We took him to an extremely crowded farmer's market the last two Saturdays and he did beautifully. The jumping and pulling have stopped and one person can walk both our dogs together with ease. This review is long overdue about my experience with the training my Havanese puppy, Lola, received from Rob's Dogs. Last summer I had my consult with Rob. I told him I was not interested in the board and train program as I wanted to participate in Lola's training. After a brief consult with Lola, we decided on an 8 week training program with one of his trainers, Lauryn. Rob is a believer in the use of a shock collar. I was a bit hesitant about this but was assured the collar is merely a training tool and not as a form of punishment. After my training with Lauryn I can assure you this is the case. Lauryn is a GREAT trainer. She was very patient but also could communicate to me what Lola was thinking and what I needed to do with my training. My goal with Lola was off leash training. Our 8 week training was not 8 consecutive weeks but we were allowed to spread the 8 lessons out over several weeks which was very helpful for me and Lola. After 8 lessons with Lauryn, Lola was working off leash and happily obeying my commands. One thing I like about the training I received is Lauryn used very few commands. I think yes, no, heal, down, and sit were the only commands we used. Simple is better for the dog and more importantly the owner! Is Lola perfect, no she's not but that is a reflection on me and not Lola . Lauryn said Lola can do anything I ask her to do if I put in the time and I firmly believe that to be the case. We brought our Goldendoodle Mazie, to Rob after her behavior was progressively getting worse. Mazie knew the basic commands but had figured out how to push the limits eventually leading to not listening at all, opening the trash can, and being a menace. Rob was able to quickly turn her behavior around! After our consultation, we already saw positive changes in Mazie's behavior. My wife and I did "our homework" but each in person lesson we could not believe how much Mazie improved. We did the 8 week off leash course and by week 5 Mazie was able to start the off leash portion. We are so pleased that we can take Mazie anywhere, she can be off leash, and best of all she LISTENS. We can now enjoy each other and not have to stress or worry that she will run off out of excitement. She is such a well behaved dog thanks to Rob! I highly recommend his off leash training program. We couldn't be happier with our Pitty pup. At 4 months old she was a handful and we wanted to make sure she was going to be a good dog so with Rob's help we now have that. Our biggest problems with her were the basic commands and never coming when called. After the program she is a completely different dog. We take her to the park and let her off the leash to play fetch and not worry she will run off when she sees another dog or person. We even take her with us on Sunday funday. She can relax with us at any patio bar and restaurant. Its so nice to take her everywhere and not have to worry about her having bad manors. We absolutely cannot say enough good things about Rob and his training program. We started positive training programs early on with our Brittany, Gaston and although he was obedient and followed some commands when we asked him to stop doing things he basically ignored us. He was also super reactive with other dogs and still pulled on the leash during walks--making going out with him in public so stressful. We enlisted him with Rob's 2 week board and train program ( and actually tacked on one more week due to a work trip) and Rob kept us updated on his progress by sending text updates and pictures which was super reassuring. We've completed 6 weeks of an 8-week training course for our 3-year old GSD, Prescott. The changes we've seen in Prescott have been tremendous! Prior to starting with Rob, walking Prescott was a workout because he would constantly pull you and get distracted by absolutely everything. He was also very anxious and would whine when it was time to go on walks or for car rides. One major issue he had was darting out the door. Now, our walks are actually enjoyable and he's much better at heeling. His anxiousness and whining is much improved. We can now leave our front door open without worrying about him darting. We can actually take him to public places like Home Depot and his favorite--AJ's patio. :) We would have never considered it before!
