Starting with the waiter recommending Eggs Benedict over the croque monsieur this restaurant did not live up to traditional french or general brunch standards. My girlfriend and sister both ordered the eggs benny and both were delivered what seemed to be a 3-minute egg cut served with a splash of hot water (?). The watery whites and solid yolk really threw us all off. This coupled with the cold, school-lunch era french fries made for no surprise when the table down from us sent their food back-- yes both of them. The spring mix salad would've saved the day had it not been so under dressed. I had ordered the chorizo omelette and was, surprisingly, even more let down. Again, very reminiscent of middle-school-lunch/sleep-away-camp instant eggs with cubed ham scrambled in. I don't recommend eating brunch here if you're visiting Boston. read more

I wanted to love this restaurant because I love everything about the French culture. I love their land, their music, and their food. So, when it was recommended by a local resident we decided to try it. The service was adequate but when we really needed something the server was nowhere to be found. I began with the soup of the day which was said to be a spinach and green pea soup. It was tasty but far too salty to be enjoyed. It was basically pureed vegetables and broth, not really satisfying even without the sting of salt in each spoonful. We each ordered the salmon which was cooked very well and the portion given was generous. The salmon was served stacked onto pureed parsnips and diced vegetables which could have been spinach, red bell pepper, and other unknown vegetables. One basket of bread was given to accompany the soup. None was offered to go with the main course, although it would have been welcomed to allow the enjoyment of all that remained of the salmon and vegetables. The service here was courteous, friendly and helpful. That's important to us, and were it not for our nice waiter, this would possibly have been a 2-star review. The food was basic. In a bistro setting, a basic approach to French food is expected. The medium-high pricing indicated that there would be a high level of skill in the kitchen. That might be true, but the food didn't show us that. The halibut main had all the promise of a memorable dish, starting with a nicely textured bed of sweet pea puree. Had the fish been cooked properly, it would have been delicious, but even as thick as the fillet itself was, it was overcooked and dry. The lamb shank was tasty, but overdone, lacking the kind of unctuous guilty pleasures that you expect in a rich dish like this. It was also dry, which was surprising given that this is a braised dish. It had the mouth feel of a shank that had been reheated more than once. After years of wanting to try this spot, a gift card in hand, we went over the weekend. What a disappointment! They were not busy. We split the black lentil and radicchio salad - which was pretty much a pile of chewy black lentils with 6-8 feathery bits of vegetables on the sides of the pile. My partner had steak frites - ordered pink/cooked through, arrived quite raw. (I was about done eating by the time it came back). I had the most tasteless piece of salmon I ever had. Salmon is probably my favorite food. This was cooked *hard*, and I don't think any bit of salt or lemon or anything touched it. It was memorable for being so tasteless. It was on a bed of some vegetable mush of some type that at least had some flavor to it. We asked for bread and we're brought a basket with 4 tiny pieces of decent warm baguetteThat, plus one coke, one glass of wine (the cheapest on the menu) and one mixed drink... $150 (with tax and tip). I don't mind paying for a good meal, but this was way too much money for such a mediocre meal. I had a far far tastier meal the next day at Yard House. Don't go here. Except for drinks. My mixed drink was yummy! Well. What a nice surprise. I returned back after a few year and things seemed to have improved tremendously. The place was packed on a Sunday and there were well staffed for it. They had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating in a relatively quiet part of the South End. We ordered the Lyonnaise Omelette and the Burger and both were excellent. The food was well prepped and quite satisfying. They do not rush service but they are not slow either. It seemed like the perfect amount of wait time to have a pleasant sit down meal and share a nice conversation. The plates were also full up with very decent serving sizes for the price. I think they use this nice trick of add salad and making the dish look fuller. Why haven't other restaurants tried this? The waiters were pleasant and attentive. This place is great! I love their logo and the french bistro feel - it feels like you've been transported to France. The patio is covered and you can bring a dog which is a huge plus! Ended up here for appetizers and drinks with a party of 6. The other restaurants nearby were packed and luckily this place had tables outside (the wait for a table inside was over an hour). It was a bit chilly, but the drinks warmed us up. We ordered the pate, pommes frites, onion soup, split pea soup, charcuterie board, mussels, octopus appetizer (this order was never put in for some reason). Some of the dishes were tasty and their bread was nice and warm. Everyone was super friendly and they gave us a dessert dish to share on the house because they were sorry they forgot the octopus. Understanding that there's a 90 minute limit in restaurants, and we were around 10-15 mins late to our reservation (due to our beautiful 5 month old), we we're expecting to have a quick experience there. Fortunately there were tables available around us and throughout the restaurant, as well as reservations seated before we got there that I used as a time guideline. What's weird is that exactly an hour and 15 into our meal, and after ordering two additional drinks and desserts, they informed us that we would have to leave soon. That would've been fine, however, I noticed that there were numerous guests that were there before us that were not asked to leave as they chatted, drank, and ate without interruption. I am never one to use race as a reason however we were the only people of color as guests in their restaurant. When I asked them about the other guests that were there before us, all they said was 'they'll be leaving soon' and 'sorry'. Upon leaving the manager wouldn't even look at us. The other location in kenmore closed! The escargot was way better there. This time it had a crazy amount of parsley and it overpowered the poor little snails. I vote for more cheese and garlic! Central Bistro is my go to for now. We also had the mussels with chorizo, beef bourguignon, the rack of lamb, and the creme brulee. The mussels were clean and the portion was huge! The beef bourguignon was a tad salty for my taste but still good. I've had 5 star beef bourguignon at other places so it's hard to live up to that standard. It's worth trying but I wouldn't order it again. The rack of lamb was delicious! I ordered it medium and it came out closer to well. I did enjoy it though and the veggies that came with it were quite tasty. The creme brulee was pre-made so it came out cold. I've always had it right after the sugar was torched so I was surprised. Me and a few coworkers were in town on a business trip and we quickly stopped here. We got escargo, oysters, sangria, a cocktail, and then main courses. The escargo was good but the oysters where not the best. The damage is pitcher was small for the price, and we sent the cosco tail back it was so bad. It was just straight alcohol. My main course was the risotto and it honestly wasn't good. I wouldn't order it again. The price of the meal was also very expensive and in general not worth the money. Would not come back again. Finally got to dine here recently after passing by it a million times before. Ambiance is best described as a quaint french cafe; Cute and not overly stuffy. We went in with the best intention of having a simple brunch but ended up ordering like it was dinner time :) We started off with a half dozen raw oysters and the escargots. Both were fabulous and the freshly warmed baguette loaf was perfect for sopping up the garlicky oil from the escargot plate. Mmmm... For our entrees, we ordered the Steak Frites due to the amazing reviews on it and the Scallops with risotto. Steak was cooked a perfect "rare" per our request and my scallops were flawlessly prepared; Nicely browned but still very moist in the center. Based on the reviews I was a little worried and not expecting much, but we were close by and hungry and thought we would give this place a try. We are glad we did! While it's a little pricey, the food was excellent. We had onion soup, streak frites, the short rib sandwich, and the profiterole. I really wanted to love Petit Robert Bistro. We had a reservation and were seated outside which was great. Unfortunately, our table was right next to the host/front door, so the foot traffic at our table was borderline unbearable and we constantly had people standing right next to our table as they waited to be seated. I totally understand that it was busy and they have to fit people where they can but I was a bit disappointed to get such a bad spot when I reserved weeks in advance. I thought the drinks were amazing. The Libellule was so good. Basil vodka, St. Germain, lime juice, and Prosecco. Adventurous but I think very good and I would go back for drinks! The food was less impressive. I thought it was good but not groundbreaking, which is a bit upsetting for the price. Maybe I just ordered wrong but my Poulet Natural Roti could have used more flavor. Ok, first things first. Parking, you know it's Boston so grab some street parking and hope it's close by. Walk around before or after hitting up this spot, and enjoy the scenery and stores. Petit Robert bistro is a chain of French restaurants located throughout Boston. This one is the closest one to the Prudential building, in a quiet brownstone apts area. Like the other locations it has cute decor, outside sitting area when warm enough, and mostly French speaking staff. The calamari appetizer was beyond amazing, crispy and hot. But unfortunately my go-to favorites that I usually order at the other petit Robert bistros were overcooked here. The duck (cooked in duck fat, decadently scrumptious) which is fantastic in the Kenmore and Brookline locations, was rubbery here and a little flavorless. The fattier bits were fine but the less meaty areas were done for. The calfs liver was also quite overcooked (I'm sure that is preferable for most people so that's good) It was covered with bacon slices so that did help with the rubberiness. Sides were great, the pomme frites (thin fries) were served lukewarm so that was a little disappointing. The salad with Roquefort cheese was a little plain as it only had olive oil and..Roquefort. But as you cheese lovers may well know, it's a very strong cheese so enjoy. Kale salad was delicious, kaley and not tough. Staff got a bit overwhelmed when it got busy (took a while to get checked out) but other than that, an okay location for this chain of restaurants. read more

Snobs, REJOICE. My husband and I have been to several Michelin star restaurants throughout Europe and a few particularly in France. The level of service and the quality are completely on par with our international fine dining experiences. In fact, the service was even better here than some of the places we experienced in France. Since it's getting warmer, we decided to check out Petit especially they have their outdoor seating! The inside looks COVID safe as possible with dividers between tables as well. The service was great and the food came out quickly! Both of the dishes tasted amazing and the eggs came out runny as expected. A friend bought a coupon here that was good for an appetizer, two entrees, and two glasses of wine, so we decided to check it out. I have to say, this is one of the better meals I've had in Boston recently! We got the mussels in a chorizo sauce as an appetizer, which were tender and had wonderful flavor, and my friend loved her salmon. I got the scallops, which I consider one of the single best decisions I've made lately: They were seared *perfectly,* and the risotto that came with them was absolutely mouth-watering. They also brought us some piping hot fresh bread to start, which was crusty outside and soft and chewy inside -- delicious. The one drawback for me is the space. It's extremely cramped, to the point where it felt like the folks sitting at the tables on either side of us should join in on the conversation -- there was maybe a foot between our elbows. The busboy was also weirdly snarky; at one point when my friend had finished a glass of water, he came over and sniped, "Well, *someone* is thirsty!" rather disdainfully, then said, "Okay, byeeeee" without looking up as we left. It was more amusing than upsetting, but it was still strange. Overall, though, still definitely worth the trip for the eats! read more

So I am in love with the french cuisine. I am travelling around Boston area to find the best steak bearnaise and of course I had to stop by at Petit Robert. The steak was perfectly grilled, the bearnaise was good, but lacked a tiny bit of acid and a bit more tarragon. My friend had modules frites and nothing bad to say about them, they were nice!! We had a great Chardonnay, which was buttery enough to match the steak. It was an incredibly warm day, but we had a bit of a hard time getting our water filled up. We had brunch here, after walking by this restaurant for weeks (we live next door). The place is always packed so we had high expectations. The food was disappointing, my friends who were visiting gave it a 4/10 which was embarrassing but fair. My out-of-town guest ended sending food back half-eaten. Dunkn Donuts literally has better avocado toast. The potato waffles though visually appealing was absolutely awful. The manager was absolutely rude when we informed him. Unfortunately my girlfriend and I did in fact eat the sub-par meal as we waited to eat until noon reservation to eat. We are both early morning runners and so are capable of eating just about anything in this type of situation. Based on this the manager then accused us of wanting a "free meal"... in fact our desire was for the price of the meal to reflect the quality of food. The good news is there are plenty of great restaurants in Boston, this is just not one of them. I urge you to find another place to eat. I would like to also state that I do not leave online reviews often, in fact this is my first yelp review ever.
