Seafood combo #1 - good deal & I like the patio seating
    Vivian H.

I read a few good reviews about this place and both are locals and figure now I will also add to the pile of good reviews of this establishment. I have seen this place when driving all over Phoenix, and last night when I was in Mesa and needed some grub, I finally stopped in. This is a family owned chain and operating since 1947. Its a cash only place and there is an ATM on premise. You order at a window, which reminds me for some reason of the beach towns back East. I ordered the seafood combo #1 which consists of 4 pieces of fried shrimp, one piece of fried fish fillet, some fries and comes with a 32 oz soft drink. Total came to under $12. The kid at the window initially said I had to order a drink separate after I asked about my drink and I had to tell him their combos come with drinks. He was nice about it and then told me that they must have changed their combo special. I highly doubt it, but whatever he says... [[HIGHLIGHT]]I like that they have outdoor seating, patio covered. I did see mounted space heaters so that will be nice when it gets a bit chilly here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, nothing to really complain about. All the food tasted good, there's also a special Pete's sauce which is kind of like Mambo sauce, I guess. While not the healthiest meal, it is a nice treat every once in awhile. And what's the point of living if you can't cheat once in awhile...

To say Pete's is a nostalgic fav of mine would be an understatement. My grandparents loved it, my parents love it, I love it, and my kids now love it! My friends and I used to frequent Pete's for lunch in high school as it was just down the road a bit from Mesa High. It was also our favorite spot after a weekend of shenanigans and sand volleyball. Lots of memories here!! Ok, now that I've walked down memory lane, a few important things to note: They ONLY accept cash. There's an ATM right outside which is nice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There isn't any inside seating, it's all outside under the covered patio and is well equipped with heater lamps during the winter and I'm pretty sure a misting system in the summer.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food wise, I have ALWAYS ordered the same thing: Monster Burger with Cheese, fries and extra Pete's Sauce. Anytime I go with friends or my family, they order various other items and I have never heard a complaint about what they ordered. On a scale of 1 - 10, I can't wait to take my grandkids here one day when I have them :)

Pete's has always been a staple in my family! It's consistently consistent it's always been the best fried shrimp ever! Shout out PETE

#1 combo, 4 piece shrimp, 1 piece fish, and fries. Side of onion rings, and last but not least, the rice crispy treat (half eaten)

I've loved Pete's my whole life! My whole family has been coming here for years and years. In my opinion, the one in South Phoenix is the best tasting. Don't ask me why, because I just can't explain it! I've been to almost every location in Arizona. I love that this Mesa location has a drive thru. I typically get the #1 combo, which is a 4 piece shrimp, 1 piece fish, with fries and a 32 ounce drink. The Dr Pepper here hits different, in the best way possible ! The food is just crunchy deliciousness! [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is alot of patio room if you want to eat outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The employees are typically friendly whenever I come. All the food is very reasonably priced. Other great menu items: super burger, burrito, onion rings. I tried the rice crispy treat for the 1st time today, and it was fantastic as well! Pete's forever!

We are fans of the local competitor and wanted to see how this one compared. TLDR: the other one is better! We each ordered the Famous Low Country Boil - mine with lemon pepper sauce and my daughter with the 88 Special, a combo of all the sauces. She went with no spice and I went with mild. We also ordered a bowl of rice. We did enjoy what we had but it seemed heavier than what we are used to. We were not big fans of the sausage mixed in and our service was fine, but not amazing. We were also disappointed that there were not scissors offered to help get the meat out of the crab / lobster - we really had to work for it! On a positive note, we did make good use of the wet wipes that were given to us as well as our bibs and gloves. It is quite a messy meal and note that I learned the hard way: don't wear white if you're planning on ordering any kind of seafood boil! Pricing is similar to the competitor. Ambiance is chill but not as fun. I would not rush back, but I also would return with reasonable expectations.

We also shared the seared jumbo scallops...High Tides knows how to cook scallops to the best! So yummy and tender and perfectly cooked with that crispy outer and the soft, creamy inside. We also shared a Caesar salad and one of the things we love about this place...ask and you can get some fresh anchovy on the side to add to the salad. Apparently, the original owners sold to a private equity firm 5-6years ago and those owners started the Angie's. All this girl wants is a practical healthy salad on the go. I can't stand fast-food chains version of salads and this is why I was Salads & Go's hugest fan. The quality got crappy the last several years and prices just went insane. I stopped here and had no idea what to do, lol. There is a QR code to order from your phone so I proceeded with that method while in the drive-thru. I find it funny that they have posted statements about their method of service noting that they don't mean to be rude. Reading other comments posted here complaining about the lack of customer service is entertaining. They strive for an automated service which I appreciate but can also see how this can also repel those who are social chatter bugs and even the senior population.... Possibly first-timers too ‍ I ordered the Chicken Greek Salad. This is my favorite meal of all time. It's the one thing I can eat over and over. Yes, I will miss that creamy feta Greek dressing from Salad & Go but their traditional Greek dressing here is also amazing. What was the best part was the grilled chicken!! It was perfect! The entire salad was fresh and the perfect size! I hate when establishments push huge portions and want you to pay astronomical prices. People don't need to eat that much and it's such a waste of food and money. I got this salad all under $6 with taxes and all. That's the way it should be- a perfectly size healthy fresh meal and on the go!! The part that made me especially happy is the packaging! The salad comes in an environmentally friendly container; just the plastic lid and I'm sure they chose that for aesthetic purposes so that you can see it immediately. They also post about not accepting bag/utensils/etc if not needed. Something I opt out when I'm taking it directly home or it's for work where I had silverware on hand.

Then I decided, let me browse seafood on maps and I seen this place, the menu had broil in the bags similar to the other two restaurants and since neither one of us had been here we decided to try it. Long story short now onto the real review of the place, parking is big, when I got to the place it didn't look like many cars. Which made me hope this place didn't disappoint; plus side was plenty of parking and no wait to sit. I got my booth while I waited for my friend I loved the interior it looked real clean and the decor was nice, the vibes were more calming and chill than rowdy(if you've been to angry crab or la crab shack you'll know what I mean). They have a huge bar with stools to sit at and booths. Now to the food, they had a broad menu seafood broil (the only reason I go to these places) and Asian like, such as sushi and other things to be honest I didn't pay attention, because I went for the seafood broil only and it's easy to order. I got head on shrimp, with house Cajun sauce, spicy, and added potatoes and sausage. It was so good!! If you like spicy it's perfect! It does have a kick, but good. When I got my bag the food was steaming I would take off a point on the sausage(don't get me wrong it was good! But when biting I would have to pull in order to break off I feel like it was the skin of the sausage being annoying) and they were thinly cut, but not worth taking a star off. The staff was friendly, I would return and I can't wait to bring my husband, let me add that the prices are great, they seemed cheaper than the other two places I mentioned above.

We ordered the spicy shrimp and sausage boil and could barely eat it. When the server asked how everything was, we told her it was not good. Her response? "Sorry, we have a new cook who's training." Seriously?! So you KNOW the cook isn't ready, serve customers bad food anyway, and still charge full price? No replacement, no discount, no attempt whatsoever to make it right. They simply did not care. Cute pond. Terrible food. Even worse customer service. Save your money and go somewhere else.
