Pete's is tucked back off the road just enough that it is easy to miss. We passed it many times before deciding to give it a try and we are so glad we did! It is a greasy spoon kind of diner with a friendly staff and a family run business feel. It is not very big, so on a weekend there is often a wait, but their menu IS big and has plenty of options. What I love about Pete's is the Greek options. They have fresh gyro lamb's meat hot off the broiler and quite a few options with it including a skillet, omelette, sandwich, salad etc. They also have all the classic breakfast options as well as lunch, though we have not yet been for the latter ourselves. If you feel comfortable being packed in this diner with no one wearing masks, then this is the breakfast spot for you. The waiters and waitress do not wear masks, and the place is packed full of customers. The tables are definitely not 6 feet apart. They do not wipe down their menus, water pitchers are on the counters exposed right in front of customers, and the list goes on. If I was not vaccinated, I would of walked out. The food is subpar diner food with nothing special to it. I'm surprised this place is actually not shut down, but it looks like a lot of the customers are regulars. I love this place. The staff are always top notch, attentive, and prompt. I like the fact that the waitstaff work as a team, so you can have one of them take your order, another may bring your food to you. I like that because your food is not sitting under some heat lamp (that don't work well) as my pet peeve is cold food, because the cook doesn't put it out cold. I also usually come here around 1:15 ish ( at the end of their long shift) and they are just as friendly and attentive as when their shift starts. No matter what you order, you can't go wrong. However, my favorites are are the gyro burrito and their home fries smothered in their delicious, very meaty green chili. You won't leave here hungry that's for sure. IN SEARCH OF THE PERFECT BREAKFAST OMELETTE. I moved to Colorado 46 years ago and I've spent 36 of them looking for it. Then it occurred to me the closest I've ever come was back where I'm from, upstate New York. It was a Greek eatery in the small town of Malta New York. Could it be that the Greeks held the secret? Armed with my little epiphany I started searching for Greek diners, cafes etc. That's how I discovered PETE'S CAFE in Thornton Colorado. It is owned and operated by the Pete and Kathy GATSEOS family... you can't get any more Greek than that. Sure enough, after my decades-long search, I hit the omelette jackpot... A cheese and onion omelette that is to die for! Lots of my two favorite ingredients carefully folded into a generous omelette. Loaded with so much of the two items, it is slightly potbellied in the center. I'm also pretty fussy with my sides ... WELL DONE sourdough toast, CRISPY home fries and LIMP bacon (don't ask) and that is exactly how it is served. Once I assured myself it wasn't a fluke, I started experimenting with other dishes as well. Sometimes I'll order steak and eggs. They butterfly the steak so it is thin just as a breakfast steak should be and it practically fills the plate yet still as rare as I like it. In this case I order my eggs over easy... again, just as I requested. Putting aside the old axiom, "if you want to make an omelette you've got to break some eggs," I've never seen on my plate (or anyone else's) a broken yolk that wasn't supposed to be broken. I asked Pete's son-in-law once (like I said, it's a family operated business) "Don't you ever accidentally break a yolk or two?" "Sure we do.. everybody does but we just trash it and start again" Okay, let me tell you about the coffee: I'm pretty fussy about that as well and almost no one gets it right. Consequently, I usually add sweetener and one or two of those little "couplets" of half and half to mask the taste of the too weak or too strong coffee, except at PETE'S CAFE... Where I take it black. And it is always hot because they never let your cup get more than half empty. They do not serve just breakfast, by any means! There is a large variety of American, Mexican and, of course, Greek dishes. Listen people, if you're ever in Thornton Colorado you need to stop in at PETE'S CAFE and check it out. That out of the way, I love this Pete's, and ESPECIALLY because the servers there are wonderful, warm, kind, people who kick ass at their job. Since I moved in a block away, I've become a regular; the first day we ate there, we were welcomed like family. And today, we got breakfast there, seated on the same patio with people of color and a table filled with transgendered people and ALL of us were treated with respect and kindness. And guess what, they were shorthanded in the kitchen, and our servers let us know they were backed up. And even then it only took maybe 10 more minutes than usual. I LOVE Pete's Cafe. As a recent transplant to the area, my partner and I have been welcomed into the fold at Pete's by their amazing crew. This is a place where everybody knows everybody by name. I feel welcomed each time I come in. Pete's food is always delicious. I am obsessed with their breakfast burritos! Their green chili is made with ground beef instead of pork and it is delicious. I have been going to Petes for years. We are there every weekend. The food is amazing and the staff is family. Our friends and family know we are there weekly, and now they tag along. This morning when we had our breakfast, we witnessed unfamiliar faces enter the restuarant and used the bathroom. Once asked to leave l they made a scene. The sign on the front door says no public restroom, and enforcing their policy is the business's right. read more

My first time at this location. I have been eating Pete's since I was a child. The servers were nice, but my order was noting exceptional. Gyro meat was completely dry, maybe it had been sitting out. My eggs were over cooked and the portion of my hash browns was small. After the bill was paid, we were finishing our drinks when a an older gentleman (not sure if he was the cook, Manager, or busser) asked us to leave because "people were waiting". We obliged and noticed that the bar seating was open and there were three or four people waiting. So, needless to say to ask a party of customers to leave so they can accommodate three people with available bar seating is completely uncouth and tasteless as your food. I would love to give this place a 5 star review but I can't. Everything was great until the last few minutes of my visit. Food, service, old school feel, all outstanding. The problem was, upon finishing my meal I looked over Into the kitchen to where one of the cooks was smoking a cigarette with ash hanging over the clean plates. There was an ash tray also next to the clean plates. Cook went from puffing on the cigarette to loading bread in the toaster to handling utensils and food on the griddle. The food is great, my favorite by far is the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger with a little extra sauce and a small Greek salad instead of the potatoes. Best part? Pete makes the Greek dressing himself! The staff remember the regulars and are always really friendly. Pete often comes out from the kitchen to talk to the patrons, which I personally like when the owner takes the time to know his/her people. Despite coming out of the kitchen, the food comes fast and made properly (I've never had a cold plate that was meant to be hot, nor a hot plate for something cold). let me start by saying i HAVE never had a bad breakfast here its always been very good.. .this morning i wanted lunch so i tried the cheeseburger ..BIG mistake i will assume the bun was toasted to the point of being hard almost like an old bun. which fell apart while eating which was very messy .no i didn't send it back .dont get me wrong as bad as it was I've had worse at the a&w on 70th and Pecos st . my wife had pancakes & eggs over easy and not only were they cooked perfect but was so DAMN GOOD !( 2 stars is just for the cheeseburger), the wait staff is awesome ALWAYS.(5 stars for them) thank you all for that. Met my sister there for a late breakfast. We ordered two breakfasts, had refills on coffee. The owner came over and said we had to leave since we'd been there for 4 hours (we had been seated for exactly 2), he said this isn't Starbucks, you should be leaving after 20 minutes. I said no problem, we don't have to ever come back. He said that's fine. So we won't. Wow. And we had even left a 40% tip. read more
