For my Birthday, I returned to my Southern roots (or the closest I can find in Denver Metro)! Starter: - Cornbread (complimentary) -- They seem to have added some kernels of corn in the dough, and they add the needed texture, moisture, and freshness! Well done! - Wedge Salad ($6.99). It fills the entire plate and is in a meal by itself! Entree: - Crispy Fried Catfish w/ two sides ($20.99). Two large filets (about 6" long and 4" wide) are delicately battered and not overly coated with cornmeal like other places. -- Catfish is delicate, so the breading is key. Cornmeal tends to overpower the fish's flavor, so I appreciate the lightly seasoned, lightly coated filets. RECOMMENDED! (Photos attached) Sides: - Fried Okra. I love fried Okra, and Black Eyed Pea cooks them perfectly. - Baked Squash Casserole. It was always my favorite, but the recipe has changed. It was a little too sweet, not enough onions and breadcrumbs. Maybe just an off day for the Chefs, so I'll give them the benefit of a doubt. Haven't been to one of these since 1996. And omg it did not disappoint. It was just like a remembered as a kid, lots of food and very filling. It was late, did not realize they closed at 9, so 20 minutes before walked in and didn't want to cause a problem for the staff and asked if they were good. They said yes and seated us. Angela was our waitress and cannot say enough good things about her. Very kind and she knew we were worried about keeping them late and reassured us it was fine. The level of service was top notch. Friendly, some nice banter and quick on the refills. I will ask for her next time I go back. In my case ordered the chopped beefsteak and was confusing it with Furrs Cafeteria, another great memory location. It was everything I had remembered and my daughter ate a bunch of my meal too. The rolls were perfectly baked and she was kind enough to send a coupe of them home with us A great walk down memory lane, but also a place to build new memories. We recently dined at Black Eyed Pea and had a very concerning experience regarding a gluten allergy. My wife has celiac disease and we made that clear when ordering. Despite informing the staff, she was exposed to gluten. What was even more disappointing than the exposure itself was the complete lack of concern afterward. When we mentioned the allergy issue, no manager came to speak with us. No one checked on her. No one apologized. There was no follow-up whatsoever. Food allergies are serious. Even if mistakes happen, the proper response is to show care, concern, and accountability. The absence of any managerial response or basic courtesy made the situation worse. We left feeling unheard and disregarded. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we cannot recommend this location/Black Eyed Pea to anyone! Due to this unfortunate experience, we will no longer be returning to Black Eyed Pea at any locations! read more

I had the Sr Chicken fried steak. It was very, very good and huge. Enough for a second meal. The fried okra is very nice very yummy. The shrimp grilled with Cajun seasoning is good. The mac & cheese is very good. It even rivals homemade. The cooked carrots were very good. And of course, the rolls are always wonderful. For the second time in a row, I got home after picking up my order to find the wrong sides included with my meal and a missing order of cinnamon apples. Called the restaurant and was told they could not do anything because it was ordered online so now is a problem door dash must resolve. Was told if I had called in and ordered it, they could help. My son and I frequent this location at least twice a month. We like to sit in the same booth by the bar and Amber is always our waitress. Amber is incredibly pleasant and she is definitely one of the reasons why we come back to this establishment the food is amazing. It's always hot and fresh. The worst meal I've ever had at Black Eyed Peas. I chose the marinated pork chop meal and my pork chop was not marinated and dry as hell my potatoes were good but the gravy that was covering it was bland as hell so they replaced my dried pork chop with an overcooked chicken fried chicken with with more bland gravy on top. My wife was in the mood for some fried chicken so she threw this restaurant into the ring of options so I decided since it's been awhile since we have been here I opted to go here. I must just say that we were seated in the bar area again,which I think they have made the booths smaller ,lol, and honestly I should have said something about not really being comfortable but I didn't. Our server was Ashley. I could kind of pick up that she wasn't the most seasoned server but in all honesty she killed it. Whoever trained her was on point!!!! She was both friendly, readily available, but not hovering. And when we did need something , she was quick to explain that let me deliver these drinks or such and was quick about it. Our meal was brought out like it should be, Drinks, salad/appetizers, meal, and yes dessert . I would just like to say that if you want a good meal this is the place to go. Like anything prices are increasing but you get what you pay for and be warned I think that they've increased the size of the Texas size chicken fried steak!! It wouldn't even fit on the plate!! I hadn't been to a Black Eyed Pea since I was a kid. Felt nostalgic and decided to go for lunch. We walked out after looking at the menu for about 30 seconds. $25 for chicken fried steak? Almost $20 for a 5 piece chicken tender meal??? High prices for oversized portions of comfort cafeteria food. Kinda reminded me of all that is wrong with America. My husband and I grabbed lunch here today, a Thursday. The place was packed because they have a Senior menu. For whatever reason, we weren't given one and my husband is a senior? Anyway, we were promptly greeted and seated. This is a very large restaurant. Decor is very casual. Maria came and took our drink order. Our drinks were delivered and our waitress showed up shortly afterwards. She was very pleasant and capable. She took our orders and answered questions. Our salads and rolls and cornbread came out right away. I had the chicken fried chicken. The portions are large, and I knew this, so I ended up taking more than half Of this home for dinner. My husband ordered liver and onions . I'm just grateful for a restoration serves this, so I don't have to make it for him. There is a HH, but as best I can tell, it's only $1 off appraisers from 3-6. Bad start to out visit on Tuesday, 11/13/24; we walked in the front door, but no host or hostess in sight. Waited several minutes, still no one, some other people came in behind us, we all waited some more, still no one. I finally walked back to the bar area to see if I could find anyone to seat us and encountered the manager chatting up some customers. He gave me a look and said "Can I help you?" to which I replied "Yeah, we're looking for someone to seat us please." He gave me another look and in a snarky tone of voice, informed me that he had been helping other customers. I said "Sure, no problem" and he proceeded to seat us. After we had finished part of our meal and had set one of our plates out on the edge of the table, he breezed by, grabbed the plate and kept on walking. I guess I'm accustomed to having a manager ask how our meals are when he visits our table, but not this guy. He not only couldn't seem to care less, he seemed to intentional snub us. The wife liked her dinner, but I ordered the beef Stroganoff and the noodles were absolutely drowning in sauce. Someone at the next table ordered the same thing and asked for more noodles to soak up some of the excess sauce. Normally, we have good service and the food is good (their steak is on par with just about any steak house), but this visit wasn't our best experience. read more

This has become a Thursday night date night spot! We literally only order chicken fried chicken because it's sooo good! Jalapeño gravy with mashed potatoes & broccoli & share a Caesars salad. Sometimes I'll get a margarita, the last time we got a frozen mango/strawberry which was so fantastic. If not it's sweet tea. Perfect to hit that comfort food craving! The servers are always fantastic. We normally sit in the bar area. The manager (with the short hair) always comes around to check on things. The spirits are high here despite most nights are quiet. The pot roast was tender and flavorful in a delicious gravy, and all of the sides were a good size. The mashed potatoes were average but I enjoyed the cinnamon apples. My husband picked this place because he went here once when he was visiting Denver as a teen. Although I wasn't very enthusiastic as first, this place impressed me. Their lunch specials were amazing! You get a lot of food for less than $10. I got the pot roast and two sides. The pot roast had a good flavor, and it was appropriately juicy. The sweet potato was fine. The fried corn was ridiculous! Who thinks, "let's deep fry corn on the cob"? Crazy! It's like ingenious fair food. After the shock wore off, I got a little bored with the gimmick. I like good old traditional corn on the cob (or street corn). While the batter was great, it was too much. I couldn't finish it. I strongly recommend this place for lunch because it's affordable, has great portions sizes, and ridiculous side options. It's a pseudo southern restaurant in the mile high city though. First I will say that the first time I went to Black Eyed Pea was in Colorado Springs, and it was a hilariously bad experience. This time however was fantastic. I went to the one near my house on 104th. First off I was immediately greeted with a smile by the host and sat thereafter. My server Daniel is new but still great and quick. I tried to put him to work to see how he handled pressure and he did great getting me everything I requested within 2-3 minutes. This place feels like a fancier Cracker Barrel and the food was fantastic. Large portions for very cheap. I got the mushroom swiss chicken with shrimp with a side of mash potatoes and spinach. My husband got chicken fried steak with corn and black-eyed peas. My son got mac and cheese with salad. The portions were huge. I paid 12$ for my chicken and sides. 4$ for each skewer of shrimp. I was surprised by the portion size, even the drinks were huge! I even got like a quarter of an orange in my beer. The chicken was nice and moist, the mashed potatoes (made from scratch every hour) were delicious. The corn had a very nice char to them. The spinach was a little salty but still tasty. The salads were crisp and well dressed. My sons mac and cheese was like half a box of Kraft but he ate every bite. The chicken fried steak was crispy and well cooked. My son also got a free dessert with his meal that he basically ate all of before I could get pictures. Over all I was impressed. Idefinitely will be back. read more

Went here with my family for lunch. It's mainly homestyle food. Everything tasted pretty good but the space had a geriatric vibe. But, the prices were fair and they give enough food so you can share your entree with someone if both of you are not super hungry. Also they give great complimentary buns and corn bread with sweet butter. So if you want to penny pinch, avoid apps and just eat the free bread. It was fresh and delicious. read more

We ordered Curbside takeout. When I got home, I discovered the staff failed to include a dinner salad that is included with the meal. I also pre-paid and tipped 15% before the entire transaction was complete. That's the problem with tipping before you get your food home. Starbucks allows tipping even after you've been and gone from the place of business, maybe they could adopt this business model, but I've had similar experiences with other restaurants as well. The quality of food was excellent though, what there was of it, sans a dinner salad. I had to make my own salad by the way. read more
