I give up. Over the last year, when I go to this location, what I want is out of stock, and often its their own brand Wholehearted. Sometimes I would get store pickup, often from 2 different stores, with the lack of stock. Eventually, I started using an online retailer with better prices and fast delivery. Today, I thought I would stop by Petco, it's close to my house, to pick up a couple items. The doors were still open, but there were "closing". It was noon. No reason. If it wasn't for my dog's groomer I would definitely not be back but my dog has been attached to his groomer since he was 10 weeks old. This review is strictly about the Vetco program. Actual employees at this location were very helpful. They finally updated to an electronic check in, which was the only good part about the experience. I was hopeful that this experience would go well since there was no line. After they weighed my cat in her carrier they brought her to a table and asked if she was friendly or not. Since they noticed she was hissing and growling I thought they would take it as a hint to be cautious. At home she's very friendly but obviously in a new environment any animal would be scared. So in response I said she is friendly but she seems a little upset today. They suggested to take her to the back room and I agreed. Two ladies, one with white hair one and with brown curly hair, and a tall gentleman (who was very nice) took her back in the carrier. When they returned they said she was "not a good cat", "not friendly" and "tried to bite my fingers off". I apologized, because she isn't an aggressive animal. One of the ladies said that they couldn't even get her out of the cage to do the shots, but they managed to anyway. I apologized again because this is very unlike her. As I was waiting at the register I could see the two ladies gossiping and bad mouthing my cat's behavior as I was standing about ten feet away. As I was walking to my car in the parking lot upset about what is usually a easy experience, I noticed that the carrier wasn't closed all the way on one side and could have opened. When we brought her home she was her normal self and was not frightened at all. No pet it is perfect and any owner shouldn't be afraid to bring their animal to the vet in fear of mistreatment. I would have liked for the veterinary staff to have acted more professionally. If they felt the need to bad mouth about my pet they could have waited till I left the store. I went to this Petco today to seek help with problems I experienced with a recent purchase made at that store two days ago. The staff person I talked to was unsympathetic and rude. At one point she stated rhetorically "What's the big deal with this snail?" making me feel small and ridiculous for having a pet snail and being concerned about it. Maybe another person would not care about a $2.99 snail, but I also bought an aquarium, rock, plant, fish, fish food, and water conditioner to create a little environment for the snail. Her attitude and comments made me feel like I was stupid for my purchases, which I made on the recommendation of another (very nice and knowledgeable) Petco employee. Instead of addressing the problems I had (the fish attacked the snail, causing it to be damaged), and helping me, she blamed my problems on the other employee for selling me the fish.... I went there totally expecting to be helped and to make some more purchases to make my aquarium better. Instead, I felt embarrassed and ashamed for caring about my pet. The staff person did the bare minimum, but my issues aren't addressed and I fear I have wasted a lot of money at a store that cares only to take your money, not that your pets will actually thrive. About a month ago, I convinced my husband to do the unthinkable - adopt a cat! This was a feat that was not easy, since he doesn't like them. So we go to this Petco. I will tell you that I have given this place two stars ONLY because the guy helping us was super friendly. We held all of the 5 cats they had and fell in love with a darling kitty. For various reasons, we were unable to bring her home that night, so we asked if we could put her on hold. The guy said no, but took our names/number down to alert us if anybody was interested. He told us she had been there the longest, so we should be in the clear to pick her up tomorrow. So I spend all night thinking about her, what I'll name her, and how my life will be infinitely better with her. So, the next morning, I get up and get ready to go adopt this absolutely darling cat that, in my heart and head, was mine. So I call to let them know I'm coming in to get her and - get this - SHE HAS BEEN ADOPTED. Oh, and get this - they used my husband and I wanting to adopt her as leverage to get this other family to adopt her. In their words, "We told this family that you guys wanted to adopt her today, so we said that if they wanted to do it, they need to do it now." They straight up played us! (Although I don't think it was the guy's fault who helped us initially.) I cried. That cat was mine! What happened? Oh yeah, these jerks used me to sell her to someone else. On the bright side, we have adopted and completely fallen in love with a cat from PETSMART. She is sitting with me now writing this review and I love her. And also, my husband loves her. So suck it, Petco! read more

I took my golden retriever Spencer in for grooming this past Friday, he developed an extreme hot spot and the most disgusting smell. I called and spoke with the salon manager who put me on hold for 10 minutes, when the MOD finally got on the phone she asked me "What can I help you with?" in the rudest tone. So not only was I placed on hold no one updated her on my reason for calling. I explained what happened and she again in a rude tone asked "So what is it you are wanting from us?" while laughing and having a side conversation with another employee. I came back the following day and spoke with Theresa, who was so extremely helpful by refunding my money as well as taking care of the expense to take him to the vet next door. The vet confirmed it was a hot spot from brushing out mats, which are meant to be shaved as to not hurt the animal. While I appreciate the help from Theresa my dog now has the entire side of his neck shaved and is in constant discomfort and has to be separated from our other animals. I will not be shopping at Petco ever again. read more

This Petco is really nice! I've been to a couple of Petcos around Mesa and Tempe and they can be pretty sketch, a lil smelly, or super disorganized. This one's great! Clean and organized and lots of cute stuff. I also brought my cat here for his vaccinations when he was still 4 months (9 months now) and it was very cheap and super fast. I definitely recommend the Vetco services here. I'll be bringing him here for microchipping soon! read more

Wow I'm so impressed with this place!!! I'll be honest I always get PetSmart and Petco confused so upon moving to Az I accidentally booked at pet smart. I had a horrible experience..... so l was a little hesitant about what my next experience would be like at a different pet store but a lot of small owned businesses here wouldn't take xl dogs.But Petco is a cheaper option out off all the ones I've seen with our dogs needs! I'll tell you we had nothing but a good experience from when we walked in to when we walked out! Nala and willow looked amazing!!!! They were completely dry and smelt soooo good! Nala is a lab so she sheds 24/7 and I'm so impressed with how much hair they got off of her! She looks so much lighter! Their coats are so soft and they were not scared or anything upon pick up!! They must of loved it! Honestly we will never go anywhere else! 10/10 with this Petco! Plus you get a punch card on the app and you get amazing discounts on the grooming! Thanks so much you guys! They use to be great but I think they're under new management. The place needed upkeeping while 3 employees were hanging out talking without greeting customers. Customers needed help and they weren't approached. They even announced over the speaker "your girlfriend is on the line". They no longer offer the cat food I purchase in a case so I waste my time counting out 48 cans. I asked the employee about this and his response was "the manager wants the cases open" . Location is great but I'd rather drive 6 miles to the next closest Petco to me. read more

My fiancé and I came into this location to just get a little something for my cats 6th birthday. Turns out we both wanted to get more fish. We asked one of the associates named Beth to help pick out some fish with us. She was so friendly and very knowledgeable about the fish and tanks. Not only was she very patient with us, but she had advice about her own experience with certain fish and plants. I just want to say thank you for all of your help Beth! Staff knows NOTHING about ferrets, and probably any other animal in the store. I adopted 2 ferrets, which I never adopt, I always rescue, just so they would not be in the hands of those monsters. I wil NEVER shop there again, NEVER!!!! At any Petco, or Petsmart as well. I am learning to make homemade food for my 5 ferrets, 3 birds, 2 dogs and a rabbit. Easyer than you think. I always get great service and advice at this Petco. Plus Katherine my dog's groomer is amazing. I always ask for her, although the rest of the grooming department is also terrific. They all know my dog Root's name. When I call I say my name and they say, "we can't wait to see Root again." I am actually going out of my way today to go this location on my work lunch hour. Don't take your dogs here for grooming! Came here on a very slow weekday evening around 6:30 grooming closed at 8 for a fanny, feet, and face trim (walk in only service) for my 2 small puppies I called the store several times before I arrived and no answer. I get there no other customers but me and the groomer already is very snarky. Then he says, I get off in 30 min. ???? Ok? I asked him if he had something to do and if he needed me to leave since he was making it seem like I was being a huge inconvenience from the beginning. When I asked what the deal was, is when all the sudden he assured me that he could do it really fast But at that point I no longer trusted him with them. This review is for the mobile vet staff that does the vaccination clinics at Petco every Tuesday evenings. They are AMAZING. I have a dog that is temperamental around other dogs and can be dog aggressive when she gets stressed out. They completely understood and offered to go into another aisle to do the shots. They took their time allowing my dog warm up to them before they did any shots and were very patient. Great staff and very friendly! Vaccines are offered in packages at a discounted price. read more

Super helpful staff in the aquarium department. They have a really nice, clean healthy stock of freshwater and saltwater fish and invertebrates. I was telling them about a horrible experience I had with Aquarium Arts (a store in mesa) selling me a sick fish that devastated my entire tank. The guy working at this Petco reassured me that they're super knowledgeable and careful about sick fish and quarantine everything before they stock. read more

I have been consistently impressed with the groomers here. My Golden is easy-peasy--he loves everyone and everything. But my Corgi can bit a bit of a neurotic d-bag. The groomers here are always kind and calm, and are even able to dremel his nails (when the sound of a small motor--vacuum, hair dryer, hand mixer--typically sends him through the roof). My dogs are chill about coming here, and don't show a hint of stress when I come to pick them up. And when I bring their monstrously hairy butts in to be de-shedded, they are truly de-shedded (some places really half-arse the undercoat). Moving to central/south Phoenix and I will still continue to bring my dudes to this location. read more
