I offered to pull my car up to the curb to load and employee said she was happy to push my cart out to my car. We asked Pete some questions as he was restocking the shelves .He stopped immediately and took us over to the reptiles and proceeded to tell us all about the different ones they have and any questions that we had. When you're the customer and you read a sign that says very clearly "walkins welcome" for the low cost vaccination clinic, what you aren't telling the general public is that you mean "walkins welcome to wait until you're done with all the scheduled appointments" which is really not cool after waiting 25 minutes in line and then it's my turn and I get turned away because the ten people behind me all had appointments. I was "welcome to wait longer" and in lieu of that I walked out and made an appointment with my regular vet. It's probably a good thing because the prices that the customers ahead of me were paying didn't sound low cost to me. I do not recommend this business. They don't care if you stand in line and wait and then wait longer and there is no mention about "appointments recommended" anywhere on any of their signage or their website. I have visited this Petco countless times over my four years living in South Tempe. It's super clean, well-stocked, and the staff is very friendly. I most recently came to get both of my dogs shots at a Vetco pop-up. What a great vaccination pop-up, the veterinary staff were so nice and thoughtful, they took great care of my dogs and receiving their vaccination records was as easy as receiving an email within a couple of minutes. If you live in South Tempe I recommend this Petco location, they're awesome. I am moving out-of-state now so I need to find a new pet store, hopefully they can live up to the standard that this location has set. read more

This Petco has been around for years. If I had to choose between large chain pet supply store Petco or Petsmart, I'd choose Petsmart. I prefer Petsmart's selection of food for not just dogs and cats, but for small animals such as guinea pigs and rabbits. While it would be nice if both retailers showed only rescue pets for all the animals at the store, not just dogs and cats, I had a negative experience at this particular location where, as a kid, I saw a mama hamster cannibalize her young! I'm not sure if it had to do with the living conditions or if hamsters just do this on their own, but it was pretty disgusting. -In general, for small animal supplies (Such as rabbits and guinea pigs), Petsmart is alright, although you can get better prices at Tranquility Trail rescue (And help out needy orphan bunnies at the same time!). I was very disappointed to hear that after spending almost $200 dollars I was asked if I wanted to purchase a plastic bag for 10 cents. It's certainly not the amount but the principle. I expressed my displeasure and the cashier said I could always buy/use a reusable bag. I did not purchase any bags and it was very inconvenient for me since I had to make extra trips getting the stuff out of the car and into the house. I am not a young person. If it is the wave of the future for retailers to start charging for bags, it is not a very nice way to treat its customers. I won't be going back to PetCo any time soon. read more

I don't like writing bad reviews but in this case it's necessary because customer treatment was very poor. I have been a customer here for more than 17 years and have given them my business only, but not any longer. Here is why: We acquired a new puppy from the Human Society in Casa Grande today. We were told that one of the large pet stores gave a free bag of dog food if you adopted from them. I couldn't remember if it was PetCo or PetSmart. So, I walked into PetCo and asked the young lady who was working with the Beta fish if she knew of such an offer. She would barely look at me and replied, "We don't give away free dog food, and no one else does either." Her tone was utterly snotty. I told her that someone definitely does and walked out. I went across the street to the other shopping center where there is a PetSmart and inquired at the register. Why YES! They DO offer a free 8 lb. bag of food for an adopted animal from Human Society. How nice! He quickly presented me with a book with all kinds of discount coupons. It was amazing! I saved more than $20 on things I need for a new puppy. I spent almost $100 that could have been in PetCo's bank. Well guess what? I am telling all my friends to never go to PetCo because of this rude treatment to a long time customer. I will never set foot in any PetCo ever because it is apparent that PetSmart cares more about pets that PetCo every could. The manager there was very rude and condescending to not only the customers but to the other employees. Her name is Shelby, and she obviously thinks she's the queen bee. I was looking for a certain dog food can, and while I was looking for the food, she was yelling at the other employees on how slow and stupid they are. And when I asked her where the food was, she said "are you that stupid? You are right in front of it!". I was not, and another employee even chimned it to tell her the food was not there. She rolled her eyes and walked away. I was APPALLED. How does someone get away with talking to customers like that?! And after all that, she would complain about the volunteers that work at their little kitty corner. About how dumb they are, and how the rescue shouldn't be there because they are "such an inconvenience" to her playing on her phone. I honestly do not understand why she's there, she obviously doesn't know anything about customer service, and treating customers horribly doesn't help me want to come back. I really like this Petco! I am surprised that I have not reviewed it before. So it is long past due. I have been buying all my Pet supply's here for about 5 years now. At Christmas time they have Santa Claus there to do Photos with the Pets. It is so cute! They have a large selection of all sorts of dog and cat food and products. As well as all sorts of other animal products and items. They have great sales and you get $5.00 rewards for money off your purchases for all the items you buy. I do go to other shops at times to buy pet products, but the majority is purchased here. I take my dog in to get his nails cut and they are very gentle with him. They have a complete grooming salon. On certain days of the month they have a clinic for shots and such as well. You can adopt Cats here. They give them a really nice large area to play and live. Which is so much better for them than having to be in a cage. I buy all my fish here and so far have never had a problem. My dog loves coming here. Because, they not only welcome Pets, they encourage you to bring them in. I have always found the staff here to be very kind and helpful. Lots of parking in the lot. IMPORTANT CONTEXT I had 3 animals: 2 dogs and a cat. My big boy doggie Clopi and my cat Rocky died. My little dog, Princess Baily, is 12. THE STORY Now that I've only got Princess Baily, who is experiencing many health issues, I thought I'd treat her to a trip to Petco, where she could buy whatever she wanted. I thought she would like a new basket and a waterfall fountain. She thought she'd rather be anywhere else than a local Petco. Whatever, I'm bigger than she is. Since it's her first visit (and probably last), I let her explore. First, the treats. She was not even slightly interested in any of them. Princess Baily is used to gourmet, which these were not. I showed her some clothes. None compared to the wardrobe she already has at home. I showed her some baskets and blankets. She liked the pink and gray fluffy one. So I bought it. Next, we just kind of wandered around. We saw a bunch of dog and cat supplies, and some small creatures; reptiles and such. Princess Baily was nonplussed. There was a lady with a smaller dog. I thought it would be cute if the dogs met each other. There was a good selection of waterfall fountains. I picked the coolest one and bought it. Although they have a decent selection of pet food, Princess Baily only eats Beef Evo, which I have to special order online for $200 per bag, since they've discontinued it. So, there's nothing for her to eat here. Princess Baily was bored. I was bored. SERVICE EXPERIENCE Three different staff members asked if I needed anything. I didn't, but they were nice to ask. Through clenched teeth she told the dog to stop and grabbed his muzzle pretty hard. Poor baby. Grooming is already a scary experience for dogs. I come to this Petco because it is closest to my house, but not anymore. Employees are very rude and unprofessional. Theresa did not try to assist me at all with my exchange, she was very rude and left us very unsatisfied with the customer service. We had to drive 20 miles away to a different Petco (in which the manager at this different location did help me and solved my exchange issue very easily) to deal with our exchange because management obviously doesn't know the exchange and return policy well enough, and aren't willing to assist customers when they have an issue. Customer service really needs work... i definitely will not be going back to this location. Try the Talking Stick Petco in Scottsdale for better customer service. Do not take your dogs to this location for grooming. I have been taking my dogs to Petco for grooming for almost 10 years and have never had a problem with the groomers. However, this Petco has managed to lose my grooming business for good. It has been 2 times now that they cut my dog. The first was almost a year ago. I received a call in the middle of grooming to be informed that my dog had a "scab" on her ear that they were unaware of (even though they inspected her when we got there) and they knocked it off while grooming. I was fully aware of the fact that my dog did not have a scab on her when I brought her in and the story was fabricated to cover the mistake. I realize that mistakes happen and dogs move, etc. But lying abut the situation is not ok. The second was about 3 weeks ago. and this is what pushed me over the edge. After about 3 hours I received a call from the manager. She informed that my dog had been cut on the ear during grooming, they had taken her to the vet next door and she was ok. They also, gave me the grooming session for free. There was no apology, there was no sympathy, it was a total "cover their butt call." Try to smooth me over before coming in. When I did arrive to pick up my dog all the groomer did was try to make sure I was ok with the dog being cut. "The vet said she is ok, they glued her ear" "If you want to take her to your vet we will cover it" "I really appreciate you being so understanding" It was ridiculous and still no sympathy for the dog or an apology. I had to go inside to buy a collar for her and when I was in the isle I could hear the manager talking to another manager on the phone. During their conversation she informed her that they had to fill out an incident report because the groomer cut a dog, but the owner was ok with it, like it was no big deal. The message of the story is, do not take your dog to get groomed here! read more

This review is for Petco Grooming Salon and specifically Jamie. We recently rescued a male mini schnauzer and he has some big kennel and anxiety issues with other dogs. We also had a bad experience with another groomer (not here). We just needed his Schnauzer face groomed and when I stopped and spoke to Jamie and explained his situation Jamie was kind and empathetic. She had us return in 45 min when the current dog would be done and she could have a quiet area to work with him. Jamie slowly introduced herself to Scooter, was very gentle and kind with him, took her time introducing him to brushes and clippers. Scooter did so much better with her and he looked amazing. Jamie made our experience amazing and it is stylist like her that truly make the difference in our furry children! Thank you Jamie! read more

What do they always say? Petco, it is where the Pets go! Well, they were all here on this day. It was the day of the Vet clinic. So there were a lot of nice dogs there and even a Ferret. All to get their check ups and shots no doubt. I stopped in to get some Blue Buffalo Dog food. It is a good place to find it here. The store is clean and the staff is good. Only one thing seems a bit different than PetsMart and that is they have no treats for the dogs at the check outs. I mean the free treats that they give out to your pups. It is not a big thing but, just something different. I really think that it is great that they have a Vet Clinic here. It was a Tuesday, so it is every Tuesday evening. read more

Do you spend a lot of money at Petco? To avoid being treated like you spit on someone's mom because you have simple questions, don't go here! I love my three dogs and other animals, and I've easily spent over a thousand dollars at this location. I can't believe how I was treated today. I was trying to exchange a dog water bowl, it was about 70 dollars, and I found the same one still on the shelf. I get to the register to be assisted by a manager at this location 915, Theresa. I was about three words into explaining that the fountain wasn't working when she interrupted me to explain the return policy. Then, a coworker from the adjacent register asked Theresa for some help, which then Theresa yelled how we were trying to bend the return policy. Can you imagine going to petco trying to supply your dogs with better quality water just to be embarrassed like that in front of a line full of people? Is this the kind of customer service I should expect from a company whom I give so much money to? I ended up driving 35 miles to a different Petco location where the exchange was no problem. They found the items in my pals rewards and told me it was actually easier now that they have an updated return software. I love this Petco for its wide selection of products and GREAT customer service. Anything we ever need was here and a lot of their dog treats and toys are really affordable. When we first adopted our dog, they gave us a coupon book for discounts on a bunch of products and services for adopting! I love their dog trainers best. The first time we went with our dog, we had just adopted her and wanted to get her some toys and treats. We ran into a trainer and she just started giving us tips and advice on training our dog. It was basically a free lesson! Our dog learned "sit" and "down" in a few tries! I could tell that she genuinely loved being with dogs and training them. When we finally signed up for training classes, they were affordable and the trainers are very knowledgeable and professional. It was a little over $100 for 6 weeks of courses, and we're welcome to attend more if we wanted. Since we started teaching our dog the basics, we pretty much saved three weeks of classes, which allows us to get into more advanced tricks. This is sooo much of a better deal than some private training classes that could run up to $100/hour! After our first class, the trainer even gave us a free bag of training treats instead of making us buy our own. Their grooming services are also pretty inexpensive in comparison to other places. We really go in once a month, and the groomers are always really gentle and patient. I'm really glad we have this Petco near us. We're pretty new to pets, so having them as a resource is really great. Definitely like it better than Petsmart haha. read more

I have gone multiple times to this location but never have I gotten the service that I got a couple days ago. As of recent their staff is extremely rude and unprofessional, most of the employees who claim to be "educated in the Canine subject" are not. I went to get some supplies for my two Great Dane puppies and was ignored when I walked in, no one talked to me or asked if I needed help. I decided to pick up my girls collars, beds, bowls, you know the usual stuff. When I went to checkout this girl who's obviously new or not trained checked my items and started talking to me in regards to my dogs. Once I explained I was getting my Great Danes in May she gave me an ugly look and scoffed a bit. When I asked what was wrong she tried to avoid it, I gave her a look before handing her my cash to pay. She then started telling me about all the health problems I was going to encounter with them, and how I should look into another breed. Now me being a very social awkward person I didn't say anything but thank god my fiancé was their, he cleared his throat shooting a glare at the lady and said in a calm voice. "If we asked for your thoughts and opinions you would know, please stop" the lady honestly looked a bit pale but pissed off... my fiancé stands at 6'2" and can be pretty intimidating... needless to say I will not be going to this Petco location again and I will be going to PetSmart across the street. read more

This review is for the shot clinic that's inside this store on Tuesdays. Very fast and efficient, tech was knowledgeable and will answer questions if asked. No up-sells or trying to guilt you into buying more than you need; they don't have time for that. Being fast, however, does not equal bad service. One of my dogs was a little skittish and the vet took her time calming her down before doing the shots. If you go for the shot clinic, definitely go early. This review is for grooming. We started bringing our little furry child here after a terrible experience with another groomer in the same area. I called first to talk about what happened to our baby-she is a Brussels Griffon mix...probably with some Yorkie-she practically got scalped at a different groomers when all they were suppose to do was bathe her. I told Kristin what happened and she assured me that she would only do what I asked of her-she sounded so genuine on the phone-so caring. We were a hesitant but our baby was smelling a bit gamey-she hates bathes which is why I didn't just so it myself-and she needed her nails done and her 'stache and brows trimmed. Finally I got brave and made an appointment with Kristin. What a special gal she is! OMG she carried our fur-baby around and got to know her. She spent a long time with her-calming her fears and mine too. Kristin (at the Tempe location on Guadalupe and McClintock) is amazing!!! We found the most wonderful groomer for our baby girl. After the terrible experience we had down the road a bit-we have the best groomer ever! And the staff here is awesome! The store is clean-everyone is friendly. My fiance and I scheduled an appointment to get our dog vaccinated. We arrived early so we could purchase a harness as well. We brought the dog over and I explained I would be purchasing a package. He looked over our past vaccinations and asked if we wanted individual or a package. I had stated I had a coupon from vetco for a free rabies shot with a package. He then questioned me on what I wanted because of the past vaccinations. I explained it didn't matter, I was going to purchase a package in order to get the free rabies shot. At that time we realized our coupon was at home. We live 5 minutes away so I was going to go grab the coupon. We were then told if my fiance or I wasn't back by 5:30 they would charge us full price and not honor the coupon. On top of that we would now be a walk-in because we weren't there for our scheduled appointment. I told them just one of us would go but it didn't matter. They were rude and condescending. At that point my fiance said forget it and I used a swear word. I couldn't tell if it was a male or female but they said I'm not comfortable with you swearing. I went to the manager and explained the situation. He told me upfront he would honor the coupon. We went back and because I said one swear word, everyone was freaked out. They also lied to the manager about what they originally told me. I guess I am a big scary person. I have never been to a place where rude employees are not in the wrong.
