Elderly mother in-law paid for the Grooming service (40.00 first visit, 15.00 for grooming every 2 weeks). After 1st visit, dibilitating illness and new medication prevented mother inlaw from being able to leave the house. She called Petco before the 2nd appointment to be sure to cancel the appointment and tell them what had occurred. The following week, when she was able to.leave the home on her own, she returned to Petco with her dog for a grooming. Staff at Petco couldn't care less about her illness, or the fact that she called before her appointment to cancel. Instead they demanded her pay another 40.00 to start the Grooming Service all over again, because she was unable to make it to her second appointment on time (she was bedridden with Fibromyalgia flare up). Where is the compassion in the staff at Petco? Like everyone says, everything starts at the TOP. I Suppose this is how the manager chooses to operate this business. It's no wonder that big box retailers like this, are going out of business - bad customer service and poorly trained staff. Never going back here for grooming and will buy all products on Amazon now. read more

Zach in the fish department is super helpful, & very knowledgeable about all the types of fish, & has great customer service! The department is well stocked with feeder fish,& ghost shrimp as opposed to other locations. There is a larger variety at this petco as opposed to other stores. This store recently underwent a beautiful remodel. It's inviting, clean, and spacious. The staff is friendly and professional. Great selection of pet products with affordable prices. I love this store!!! FYI: Every weekend, this store host Veto Clinic which provides super affordable vaccinations, micro-chipping and dog license service. This review is for the grooming department. I am extremely disappointed in their service. I called a few days before my appointment to schedule an appointment and I was placed on hold by Stephanie, I was on hold but then hung up on. I didn't mind this too much and just called back again to schedule it and she made my appointment. Upon my appointment my husband went to drop off our dog, the appointment was scheduled for 8:30 but petco doesn't open until 9 am, they told my husband he had to push himself through the doors to get checked in. Then he specifically asked the groomer Bobby to shave the knots out from underneath my dogs armpits along with his bath and sanitary shave, she handed our dog back and this was not done. My dog also had on a bow tie we previously purchased upon being dropped off and they did not give it back after he was being picked up and they did not put my dogs leash and collar back on him. They really need to address a few problems in their service and shape up. read more

5 stars for the grooming department. My dogs do not love going to the groomers, to say the least. One is a rescue pup who is very afraid of people and being touched but Jessica(groomer) does great with them! She is very patient even though I know they both get an attitude during trimming time. Very disappointed. I have been to this location many times and I always get poor customer service. I have had two cashiers that were extremely rude to me for no reason. Then when I wanted information on a dog training class I waited patiently for a VERY long time asking different people before anyone would help me. Somehow even though many people knew I was waiting, nobody wanted to take the time to help me. Then the grooming department refuses to trim my dogs nails and the Murrieta location always trims my dogs nails. I would say it deserves 2 stars because I haven't had an issue with products or the cleanliness of the store. read more

I went to Petco to buy a few things and wanted to get a goldfish. The employee overheard me tell my son about the container that the fish was going to be put in, and she took it upon herself to tell me that she was not going to sell me the fish because it was their policy to make sure all fish live. She stated that each goldfish needed 40 gallons, yet she had about 40 fish in a 15 gallon tank. She said they thoroughly interview anyone who is going to buy fish to decide who is and who is not going to buy fish. I spoke to the manager who reciprocated the same rhetoric as the employee. I love coming here because of the service. We always bring our dogs in for nail trimmings, shots, and to use the self service bathing stations. Never had an issue. This time I was a little freaked out. There were two pitbulls who entered the building barking and showing teeth at people. I was scared to go in, as the owners seemed a little overwhelmed by the two dogs strength. I waited until they were all the way in the back of the vetco clinic before I entered the main doors to get into the self service dog washing station. You could hear these dogs going crazy, At one point on of the dogs escaped the vetco clinic and scared the beejeebers out of an older lady. I too was not happy about this and hid behind the register area having to explain myself to the cashier. I am not just picking on these dogs or the way it was or shall I say wasn't handled because of the breed of dog. But given the history I feel the staff should have handled this different. At what point do you draw the line between aggressive dogs who have the potential of hurting other animals or customers? I didnt feel safe at all. Needless to say I washed my dogs and left in severe panic. read more

I went in today with my Doberman. We had just gone to the vet because he broke his nail and it wouldn't stop bleeding. I was told to get kwik stop at Petco. I usually go through chewy.com but needed it quickly and thought it would be ok to walk around with my pup who was doing just fine with a broken nail. So found my stuff and walked around and another customer came up to me and was like your dog's paw is bleeding. I said I know that's why we are here. She immediately ran to the staff and they began following me around the store while I looked for treats and kept radioing in to each other. I got so uncomfortable we just went to the counter to quickly check out and leave. I was there for no more than 5 minutes. I asked he vet if I could wrap it but they said not to wrap it and just let it air out. Maybe I shouldn't have taken to the pet store to get some aid but I also didn't like being treated this way. read more

The girl at wellness center named Bianca is extremely rude and likes to waste our time. Today was the second time I've been turned away because of Information she gave me the last two times I've been in. Last week our puppy was too young to receive rabies, although they were Ones to tell me to come back on this day but ok no biggie I'll come next week. Told her he would be getting neutered Wednesday and getting second dose of distemper and asked if that would be a problem come today when I would bring him for rabies that I had previously payed for. She said not at all. Come today and she tells me he won't be able to receive rabies because he got neutered and distemper Wednesday. She now denies telling me this and says " that never came out of my mouth I wouldn't want you wasting my time" not my time she was concerned with, it was hers. Wont be going back even though they already took my money for said vaccine. read more

Credit where due: I couldn't have asked for a better grooming experience for my dog. Although I've generally only used Petco grooming when my usual (and much more expensive) groomer is unavailable, I'm going to consider using them on a regular basis. Zoran, the associate who spoke with me on the phone and who also did the shampooing, had a terrific personality and I could tell he really wanted to make sure my seven-year-old golden retriever was comfortable and groomed the way I wanted. The groomer Taylor was also refreshingly pleasant and engaged. She went out of her way to make friends with my girl and did a fantastic job with her very heavy coat. I had enough coming to these store after coming four times for to have my Shiba Inu Miko to be bath and groom. Each time it is a different story why my puppy can not be seen after me and my wife have made the effort of coming down with two twin newborns just get our dog proper bath and groom. So my story points out that the first time I came in my dog was two young to be groom at Petco. Okay I can understand that, and told the second time she only had to have her second set of shoots. So months later I come in being told I need proof of her shots, and after calling the vet to prove she had her second set of shots. So that is three times so far that she not been able to seen. My dog is almost four months if not four months, but we can't be sure of her age because we had her as a very small puppy that had to be bottle feed because she had no teeth. Now I come in the fourth time with these time she updated with three set of shots, and all because the paper says she four months old she now need to have a rabies shot that she is not able to get for another month because she too young to have that shot for now. I don't know if Petco knows that dog has to get set of shots base on age of the dog, and you don't usually have all their shots until at least half a year old or older. A full year till they get microchip and being fix so they can't reproduce. Every time I come in the store with my wife and the girls we always bought something on the way their to not feel like we wasted a trip and gas to come to petco. Well the fourth time is the last straw because I tell you now anyone don't bother taken your puppy here till they have all their shots because they keep telling you something else on their policy that they can't see you dog and just waste you time and money to only be turn away if you have a puppy. I will never come to the store or any petco for that matter again to buy anything or even get my dog groom. Oh by the way we were going to pay for the full on spa treatment for our dog Miko too so they would of made a decent amount of money and customer for life, but now after four failed times of being told again my puppy can't be seen is just it. I'm done with petco, and will not have any dealings with them anymore. read more

Since I moved to Murrieta I have been going to this store for four years, and in Michigan for eight years. I bought four fish on Friday and they died. I never keep receipts as I never had a problem and I shop here a lot. Well I took them back to the store and also a sample of my water as my other ones have been in the tank for over three years. Dallan checked my water and said my PH was off .I had three samples as I have several tanks and she was not able to test one of the waters as I had the fish in the water. I asked her were they going to replace my fish and she said she would ask the manager Charlie ( Dallan sold me the fish so she knew me as she had sold me many fishes) I told her I did not have a receipt but pulled it up on my phone. She came back and said the manager would not replace the fish because of the water and because I didn't have a receipt. I told her you see it on my phone and she said " the computers are down and we can't see when you bought them‍. I was upset as I was buying a large order of driftwood and filters I told her I would not buy anything else as I could not believe you would lose a great customer over freaking $10..I left everything and walked out and went to the one in Murrieta. I was not up set with her as she's very nice but the managers always sit in the back and send them out to get the rude customer ( which I was not) and I told her I was not unset with her as she only works there. I did not have to bring the water in but I did and she said the was parted the policy well I read the policy tonite and I don't see where it says bring water in? Marty is by far the worse manager you can come across. I had the pleasure of dealing with her yesterday. My husband and I buy $140 worth of dog food a week there. (We have 3 dogs over 120lbs) Well we just happened to go to another local pet store and found our food $8-$10 cheaper. While at the local pet store I called over to petco and asked what could be done I.e price match, return etc? I was informed they would be able to work with me to come on over and bring my receipt. I told them I'd be over shortly. I arrived 20 mins later went to the cashier explained the situation and the guy said he'd have to ask a manager. A lady by the name alejandra (think that's how it's spelled) came over said the said manager Marty was on lunch and asked how she could help. I re explained the situation and she said she would have to ask Marty as they don't price match local pet stores it's usually just petco online or petsmart and more then likely Marty would not do the price match. I then asked her that what I'm hearing is if Marty says no you'd rather have $140 worth of food returned rather that honoring the $22 difference. Well that's when Marty just happened to walk up while on her lunch break mind you and literally said they are not going to price match just to return the food. Really you'd rather eat $140 then $22????? To add to the fire she made it known she didn't need to be bothered on her lunch break and continued to walk out of the store with my husband and I again while making it known she should of never been bothered on her lunch break and she could careless honestly about $140 return it's about the principal of not honoring the price match. A) if you were on your lug break why did you come walking up rudely to a conversation? Why didn't you just wait until your lunch break was over as we would have waited ( we still needed to go to buybuybaby) B) why did you have to continue to mention to us that you were on lunch and didn't want to be bothered? We got it the first 50 times you said something and you didn't need to walkout behind us still talking to us as the conversation was already over. Whispering under your breath and making rude comments is not manager material. I get your over worked and probably tired but customer service is huge and if you can't handle it then find a new job. We literally spend $140 a week on dog food and more when we buy our bones and treats from you. I called corporate and let them know what happened. They saw our purchase history and without any question gave us $25 worth of coupons (which is like their GC's I guess) onto our card and then some. Sadly we will not be returning to this location any time soon so we shall be giving those to someone else to use. Supposedly corporate said they'd have the store manager contacting us as well, needless to say we haven't heard anything from her. read more

I would give it zero stars but it won't let me. This is the WORST place to take your dog for a "groom".....they should call it "petco shavers" NOT groomers. I had a long hair Morkie Poo and this was his first "haircut," they fully shaved him so he no longer has any long hair. The worst part is that they even did a horrible shaving job. It is not even or anything, it is a total hack job. I could have done this with my own clippers and not had to spend 50 bucks. They even make you pay first before seeing the dog so you are stuck. I am so disappointed and sad for my dog now, he looks horrible and I hope his long hair will grow back. Today, I was looking to purchase a few gold fish, and the supplies and everything that was needed to care for the fish. My friends and I were shopping for about 30 minutes, until we finally gathered everything we needed to make sure the fish would be healthy. Once we were done shopping, we then asked an employee for help. We told him that we wanted a few goldfish, and he asked us what we would keep them in, so we showed him the container we were going to purchase. He claimed he could not sell us the fish if we kept them in this container, keep in mind we found this container in the fish section. So then we said, oh well we have a tank at home or we could purchase a different one, he then proceeded to ask us of we were 18, and none of us were so we were not able to purchase the fish, because of our age. Now I am not bothered by this rule, I am just bothered that there are no signs anywhere saying this, and I have previously purchased fish from that same exact store, so they are not being consistent with their own policies. Another thing is that, when we were looking for the fish we wanted, we saw many tanks with many dead fish, so we were thinking that we could save a few, and that is what prompted our want for the fish. They claim that kids under the age of 18 can not purchase and living animals, but we can purchase live plants, which can be killed just as easy as a fish. Today my time was wasted in Petco, and I wish I would have been notified about this 18 or older rule, before I was eagerly shopping for my new fish. read more

Every experience I've had here has been wonderful. All the employees I've come in contact with are great. The vet clinic on Saturdays have a great staff also! I'm a first time pet owner and I have had many questions. The manager Maren, was absolutely wonderful and very helpful. She had a great attitude and I could hear her smile through the phone! Don't step a foot into this place. You'll regret it. Petco sells all sorts of animals; cats, fish, birds, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, mice, gerbils, chinchillas, rabbits, lizards, snakes, amphibians, turtles, tortoises, invertebrates, and hermit crabs. Cats: Usually in "good" condition. Fish: The fish are usually generally "okay", however, I have yet to walk in without seeing at least ten dead fish. The bettas are kept in very small plastic containers with barely enough space to move. Birds: The birds are usually alright, but I've seen a bird with a bloody wing once. Hamsters: The hamsters are usually breathing hard, missing hair, or are desperately trying to escape. They have dirty bedding that appears to have not been changed for weeks. Guinea Pigs: The guinea pigs are usually have wide, scared eyes and are breathing hard. They have dirty bedding that appears to have not been changed for weeks. Rats: The rats are usually breathing hard, missing hair, or are desperately trying to escape. They have dirty bedding that appears to have not been changed for weeks. Mice: The mice are usually breathing hard, missing hair, or are desperately trying to escape. They have dirty bedding that appears to have not been changed for weeks. Gerbils: The gerbils are usually breathing hard, missing hair, or are desperately trying to escape. They have dirty bedding that appears to have not been changed for weeks. Chinchillas: The Chinchillas are usually breathing hard, missing hair, or are desperately trying to escape. They have dirty bedding that appears to have not been changed for weeks. Rabbits: I've only seen them once and they've seemed to be in decent health. Lizards: Sick, skinny, and improperly cared for. One was actually missing a foot once from a bad shed. Snakes: Improperly cared for. Amphibians: I've seen three dead frogs in the same cage. They are improperly cared for. Turtles/tortoises: Improperly cared for. The enclosures are much too small. Invertebrates: Improperly cared for. I've seen two dead scorpions before. Hermit crabs: Appear dead. Improperly cared for. Aside from animal neglect/abuse, the service and grooming is horrible. Dr. Frank in the clinic is absolutely unprofessional in every sense of the word. I visited for vaccinations for our dogs. I was informed in the most condescending and judgmental tone that my dog needed dental care. I appreciate accurate, sound advice and recommendations for the care of my pets with which I can do as I see fit. However, the tone and manner with which I was informed of this was absolutely unacceptable. When I told her that I didn't appreciate the way she had spoken to me during the entire time I was there she became unhinged. I do not use that term lightly. She raised her voice, showed contempt in her mannerisms and even came around the exam table to berate me. At which point I put my hand up and had to ask her to "stop, just stop". I told her all I wanted was vaccinations and nothing further. She then told me to leave my second dog and stand outside of the clinic and wait until they finished to which I refused. She said "oh fine" or something to that effect and stormed off. I cannot believe that she would speak to customers in such a manner and then to raise her voice and storm off was simply astounding to me. She is the poorest representation of a veterinarian and of Petco. I asked to speak to a manager and I was approached by the same manager that came to the clinic immediately after the vet stormed off. I explained to this manager, Wendy, the situation and suggested that I could not possibly be the only one to have raised a concern over this vet. She informed me that in her three years there I was this first. In manager speak that translates "I give no merit to your concern or complaint". The two female vet techs that were there were friendly and professional. They received similar treatment from the vet that I did but with less overt contempt and more subtle disrespect. Despite the great service I received from the vet techs and the cashier I will no longer give my business to this location. read more
