We had dogs that were resource guarding us. We had never heard of resource guarding before, all we knew is that our dogs were injuring each other by fighting for no apparent reason. We thought we were going to have to rehome one of our beloved babies which was unthinkable to us. Jen came to our home to teach us how to work with our girls. It was a long road, with a great deal of learning and teaching; thank goodness we found Jen. She got them turned around and they returned to the loving babies they had been. What we learned is that a traumatic event with a dog sitter caused the problem. Without Jen, we would not have been able to keep our beloved dachshunds. This happened over 10 years ago, both of our babies have passed. But they lived a loving life together. We are forever grateful to Jen, not only because she turned the girls around, but because we carry her teachings with us to our new babies, more dachshunds. We've had our dog Loki for about 7 years, and managing his intense stranger reactivity and bite history has been a long, exhausting journey. We've worked with countless trainers, animal behavioral consultants, spent thousands, read every book with varying degrees of progress but still never to a point where I felt comfortable having him around people. Even being told by one of the first trainers we worked with that "I have been a dog trainer for 20 years and I would never get a dog like him. He is too dominant" and that he needed to be rehomed (which was absolutely heartbreaking to hear). And so eventually, we gave up on "fixing" him and focused on strict management--no guests unless Loki was locked away behind multiple barriers. But with our first baby on the way, we knew we needed a change when people came over to help set up and Loki barked and scratched at the door the whole entire time (about 7-8 hours). I was tired of feeling embarrassed and stressed whenever people came to visit especially during this period of time when we anticipate having even more visitors. Our goal was simple: help Loki stay calm when separated from guests. Actually meeting them was not even something I considered a possibility. So after seeing the glowing reviews, and force-free positive reinforcement, science-based methods (which was VERY important to us working with aggression) we decided to try Wonderdog. From the very first contact, everything was easy and fast--exactly what we needed with just three weeks until my baby's due date. I got a response the same day I reached out, and after a brief intake to learn about Loki, I was quickly matched with our awesome trainer Juli and had our first meeting booked the next day. Within our first session, Loki, who hadn't been near guests in years, was calmly sleeping on his bed next to Juli completely relaxed. I was in disbelief, this was a dog that I've been telling everyone is a total menace, will bite on-sight etc and he was so so calm, next to someone he's met for the first time!!! With Juli's guidance, Loki has now calmly been able to meet my guests, even falling asleep around them! To the point where I even felt comfortable taking off his leash. We learned he's actually a very social dog that wanted to be around people--just overstimulated and insecure. With clear guidance, he did better than I could have ever imagined, and we discovered he was much calmer being included than isolated. Juli taught us different tools that let us include him that is safe for guests while respecting his boundaries and taught us ways to read his body language so that we knew where his comfort level is in every situation. What makes Wonder Dog Training and Juli exceptional: - Holistic approach--supporting not just Loki, but encouraging us as owners with the work we put in to get him to where he needed to be. I felt supported, which was motivating to continue the work in between sessions - Provided enrichment toys and activities!! We got kongs, snuffle mats, puzzle toys, puzzle games in between sessions for the dogs to work on which I thought was really, really cool & I hadn't seen w/ any previous training programs we've worked with. - A cute "project" for both my dogs to do to wrap up the program! - Quick, flexible support via text whenever we needed adjustments or troubleshoot (ex: I had issues when I put him away when he looked nervous during one of the meet and greets, and Juli suggested putting him in a different location in his crate with a blanket and he went from barking from the isolated room to falling asleep in the crate!) - A clear lesson plan!! I am a very checklist/planner type of person and I've had trainers in the past where we'd book 9 session but each session felt like we were just doing nothing really lol so it was nice seeing a clear plan for upcoming sessions and something for me to review after - very flexible with our schedule and always came right on time - A thoughtful surprise baby gift at our final session which I thought was so sweet! Super reactive GSD Help! We've had a handful of trainers and while we know it is US that needs the training, we haven't found training that stuck until we found Rosa at Wonder Dog Training. Kylie was such an excellent trainer for our new pup Murphy. We adopted Murphy from a rescue in mid-November and, while he was already a good boy, he needed to learn some basic skills and commands. Kylie came to our home for the consultation, and instead of telling us what she thought Murphy needed to know, asked us what we wanted him to learn. We have nothing but great things to say about Wonderdog training BUT more specifically, the trainer we worked with, Jonathan. Initially, we were going to go with another training company but some red flags were raised and that's how I found Wonderdog. I called and asked all questions I had regarding the programs they offered - what would be best for our needs, how it works etc. they answered each individual question happily and also explained the process. We were partnered with Jonathan as the trainer for our two dogs. We were looking to only train one of our dogs (left) for his separation anxiety, however Jonathan explained that with both dogs close and in the home, it would be better to train us with both dogs as one could easily rub off on the other, good or bad - this was information we hadn't thought of at the time and are grateful he mentioned it. We just had our last training with Jonathan and wow. Prior to the training sessions, we struggled leaving the house without having to run out because of our dog's separation anxiety and also having to always look over our shoulders for other dogs when walking (I'm sure you can imagine how much anxiety and toll that can take on someone). Now, we are 'pack walking' both dogs with minimal anxiety knowing what to do when we come across another dog. Now we can leave our house freely and come back without having to worry about destruction that was caused due to separation anxiety. Training is a work in progress, but thanks to Jonathan it just got WAY easier. Jonathan was super attentive and helpful both during training sessions and also outside of training sessions aswell (i.e he would send follow up messages, sent some extra helpful tips etc) . He was super communicative and explained the reasoning behind certain methods of training. Jonathan genuinely cares about the dogs and helping not only the dogs, but us as owners understanding the dogs better. Recently we realized we had to travel together for work. We contacted Wonder Dog Training for in home pet sitting and they provided Dawn. During the meet and greet our dogs loved Dawn faster than we've ever seen them get comfortable with a new person. She relates to dogs so well. She visited our home every morning, every afternoon and every night while we were gone. She played with them, fed them, provided potty breaks, and greatly needed cuddles. She kept us up to date via text and sent adorable photos of our pups having tons of fun with toys and relaxing in her lap. Dawn gave us peace of mind and confidence knowing our pups were receiving quality and professional care. When we got home, our dogs actually seemed a little disappointed that we didn't have Dawn with us. We might just need to leave town again for a little vacation for ourselves. We finished puppy socialization class with Cat today and it was such a great experience. My boy learned how to interact positively with other dogs and people, learned manners, he carries himself with such confidence, and I feel like a much more competent dog owner. We're going to miss going to class each weekend and Ozzy is going to miss Cat so much, he adores her. Our 9 month old Boston Terrier was quite difficult to handle. We had her for 3 months and she still had trouble following when called and was not fully potty trained. Thankfully Jonathan w/ Wonder Dog helped us thru more than 9 sessions. He has a great sense of a dogs strengths and weaknesses. Our greatest achievement is how confident our shy pup has become! He was there to guide us thru 1st time at a dog park. First time at a boarding home, Wonder Dog has one in San Marcos/Esco. Also, trained for confidence when friends and visitors come to our home. Jonathan never works a day in his life, because he truly loves training! Our last meeting was at a beach jetty/shallow lagoon where we had her first swimming lesson.. FUN!
