She carved out time weeks before the wedding for us to meet each other and talk about our dog's (Louie) temperament, our expectations, and the full game plan for the big day. It gave us so much peace of mind knowing she was prepared and genuinely cared about making everything go smoothly. On the wedding day, she was amazing. She arrived early to the Airbnb and was able to get used to walking and handling Louie. She walked Louie down the aisle, handled him and helped him greet guests during the ceremony and cocktail hour, and kept everything completely stress-free for us. She kept us updated via text throughout the day, and when it was time to drop him back off at our Airbnb in the evening, she sent photos and updates so we knew he was settled and happy. We were going out of country for holiday. We saw Dogs On The Run at the Carlsbad St Fair. We picked a brochure and I did my research. I compared them to other animal boardings close to me. I spoke with my husband on each and he agreed with me, DOTR was the best sounding. We reached out, told them about our beautiful 5 yr old Great Dane. They did the research within the company to find a best fit. Carter came out to our home after some communication. He LOVED our dog, she loved him. Carter and his wife were hooked and accepted her with open arms. The day to leave was here. She got a bit anxious seeing our luggage. My husband drove her a short distance over and dropped her off. She loved it, and they were so loving right back. We had updates regularly, both in email and pictures. It looked like she was on vacation. We are booking again for Thanksgiving this year. Candace watched our two labs and two cats for overnight stays and was excellent. She came over prior to our nights away for a consultation and to get to know the animals. During her stay, she shared updates daily and took great care of the animals and the house. Everyone was happy and healthy when we returned. I explained that I had to drive to LA for my mother's funeral and needed someone to stay with my puppy. Candace is an amazing dog sitter. Our dog is a rescue and afraid of people and Candace worked with us for 6 months doing weekly visits before we left her overnight. She was so patient with our dog, even when our dog would bark at her. She knew how to handle her by being gentle, by giving her space, playing calming dog music and giving her treats. We went on a trip for 5 days and didn't worry at all about our dog as Candace gave us 2 updates a day with pictures. Over time our dog grew comfortable with Candace and even gave her kisses! I started by using their trusted pet care whenever I am out of town to care for my two dogs so they can stay at home while I am on vacation. Heather stays at my home and my dogs love having her stay there, and I have complete peace of mind the whole time I am away. Heather also now takes my Corgi on adventure walks, socializing her with other dogs who are now part of her pack, multiple times per week. She knows all the dogs in her care so well, and is genuinely passionate about their happiness and safety and matches up adventure partner dogs perfectly. It's a highlight of my dog's week. Updated to add: It's so interesting that the owner's response here does not address that 1) another dog attacked my dog in their care, 2) I was then asked to remove my dog (at my expense) to solve the problem, or 3) my dog was no longer considered a "good fit" because the boarder's dog was dying of cancer after I decided not to return my dog to their care. It's an interesting spin on what happened. And waiving $30/ day in cat care will never cover the cost of the $700 Roomba. I never wanted money. I wanted an acknowledgment that what happened was not right. I couldn't get that. Still can't. There's still a deflection, which speaks volumes of what future clients can expect. The updated review: We have used DOTR for over 12 years, so this review encompasses many experiences and facets of the business with, over time, 7 different pets. The quality of service has deteriorated significantly since we began as customers many years ago and since my initial review. We initially used one service provider for quite some time, which was great (reviewed below). Until it wasn't. The dogs began coming home from in-home boarding smelling bad and having dried feces. We shared our concerns and were then told she could not board more than one or two dogs. We were never told what was going on. It was bizarre until we learned the person who had been boarding them had become sick and had significant health problems. She probably could not care for animals any longer but was still permitted to. But we didn't learn the full scope of what happened until after she died and we spoke to other people who knew her well. Then, we were assigned to a new person for boarding, who we used for quite some time. And later, when we got a new dog, we used yet another person for socialization sessions. Things went well with her. Until they didn't. The socialization person didn't know a lot about setting expectations with dogs. When I would express concerns about my puppy's behaviors (high energy) around other dogs, she said, "That's just how some dogs are." I switched to work with a different company, a professional trainer (for a much lower cost per session), and the socialization behaviors I was hoping to bring about happened. My dog was very trainable with the correct techniques. And the second boarding person worked well. Until she didn't. During one visit (the last one ever), my dog was attacked by another dog who was aggressive. And I was asked to get my dog and take him home (I was moving my daughter into college - so not really a trip I could end immediately and come home). I was shocked that it was not the aggressive dog being sent home. But I could have my trainer pick up and keep my dog (Kandid K9 for the win!!!). He was able to watch the video of the aggression (interesting that instead of supervising dogs, the DOTR boarder was cellphone videoing the aggression incident) and hear was precipitated it, which was a really ill-informed introduction of two unfamiliar dogs. The dogs, including the aggressive dog, were both set up for failure. In short, if the situation had been managed by someone knowledgeable, the whole problem could have been avoided. Because I was out of town, my dog went with my trainer, but my in-home cat care continued while I was gone. A roll of cat waste bags was left on my floor (not on the counter where they belonged) and became tangled in my Roomba, breaking my self-emptying Roomba; IYKYK the cost to replace that. And when I raised the concern, I was met with bewilderment, "I had no idea that happened," and speculation that my cat must have knocked them down - okay, but who's getting paid to take care of things? And the location of the broken Roomba was in front of the door she'd have to use to exit to the outdoor trash to throw out the cat waste on all subsequent days after the Roomba stopped, which was 3 1/2 days before I got back home. If she didn't see my Roomba, I paid her not to TAKE CARE OF MY CATS. She'd have to pass the broken Roomba every time she took out the cat waste... She admitted she wasn't cleaning their litter because, if you know the Roomba product, I can see a map of its work, where it has a problem, and it's all time and date stamped. But in the DOTR app, I was getting reports that the cats were cared for each day, including litter cleaning. So, I did what I would want as a business owner before someone negatively reviewed me: I reached out to the owner. We emailed several times, and the owner referred me to sort it out with the service provider because they are "independent contractors." At the end of service, I don't pay the contractor; I pay DOTR, and frankly, I have no desire to communicate with a service provider who's already been dishonest with me, so I left it with the owner. Hope this insight helps you choose your pet care carefully. There's clearly a blind spot to quality and to customer concerns when there's a long-term relationship between a provider and the owner. read more
