Excellent place with a ton of knowledge. I have been taking my German Shepherd, Bella here since she was little and have never had a dog trained so well. I grew up with three German shepherd's and Bella is completely on another level in regards to her training and behavior. I could tell Dustin was very knowledgeable since the first meeting. He has helped with any problems that came up along the way, aggression towards other dogs and even helped bella respect my young daughter as well. She listens to all her commands for my daughter as well and not just me. We have been working to certify Bella as my service animal and will be taking a test to certify her at the end of the month. Looking forward to that and in the future possibly looking into some of the tracking to give Bella something fun to do once her training is completed for service animal. All the staff is very helpful and Bella gets excited every time we go. Ps. I've never had a dog that I can have off leash and it's amazing. I can take her anywhere and will listen to all my commands even if other dogs are around and activating aggressive towards my dog. She always comes back on command. I throw frisbees 300 feet away to practice for my disc golf and she brings them back with no issues. Shelly is our dog whisperer! We have two young male labs six weeks apart. They are both under nine months old. They were bonded when we brought them home and will still sleep together on the floor, couch and their bed. They like each other, but had some littermate syndrome. We could not let them play together in the backyard as one will play so hard, it seemed as though he would bite the other dog. The same dog had separation anxiety, and would try to push his way out of the crate injuring his nose. We were told by other trainers, it would never work to keep both dogs. We knew there was someone out there that would help train us train our boys. One of my neighbors suggested I call Shelly. Oh my goodness! Talk about a dog whisper! The first time we spoke on the phone she informed me about resource guarding. We did as she asked, and our two boys were transformed immediately. We've had two in person visits and I cannot express how different our boys are. Shelley has worked with our puppy in training to become a therapy dog, and while she doesnt offer the therapy classes, she teaches the prerequisite classes like AKA CGC which we just proudly passed yesterday!:) The other dogs in the class had already passed the course prior to our joining and were working on Community Dog classes. They will be taking their test next week and even though we were not enrolled in that class, we have learned so much so she suggesting we take the test too with them. The activities were helpful, fun, and things we could practice in our daily life to be an awesome two heart, 6 legged team :) She is a great trainer, a sweet person, and I'm glad she trained us. read more

When we brought home our new white lab puppy, we knew she was something special. And stubborn, smart and strong. We knew we had our hand's full for sure. The breeder recommended Shelley at North County Dog Training. She said Shelley is the best with puppies. Wow! Was she ever right! We took Sage down for socialization training and that was one of the best decisions we made. Sage is just great with other dogs. Sage went back for another couple of weeks for basic puppy obedience training and that was also very effective. What was different though is that we went thee on the weekends and the trainers showed us how they were working with her so we could do the same. They were awesome at identifying her trouble habits and teaching us how to correct them. Sage loves Shelley so much! We truly could not have had a better trainer and if we ever go back to CA to visit, we will definitely stop by and give Shelley a hug! read more

This review is only for the puppy class, we have no basis to judge for the rest of their ability to train. When we got our new puppy my husband and I signed up for several different puppy socialization classes to get him socialized early and decide who we wanted to use for more advanced training. I was excited about North County Dog Training because I loved the information on the website and that she comments on the importance of continued education for trainers. I was in contact with Shelley early on and she was very responsive to my emails. The website says: "Puppy Pre-school is a socialization class. In this class, your puppy will learn by interacting with other puppies in a safe, controlled enviroment, overseen by professional dog trainers. This class lasts six weeks and is one night per week. During this class, your puppy will learn to respond to you when surrounded by the distraction of multiple puppies." It further comments that puppies would ideally complete the class by 16 weeks of age. Unfortunately, when we went to the classes they didn't really live up to the expectation. For one, there were no puppies...ours was the only puppy, all the other dogs there were 4-5 months old and older. The first half of "puppy class" was free-play between a bunch of dogs, and the first day she even told us our 10 week old puppy shouldn't go in to play with them because he was too little (then why call it a puppy class?!?), the second time the dogs were still too big and too rough with him so we had to pick him up to avoid him getting hurt (and he wasn't a tiny 11 week old puppy - he was already 20+ lbs but thats nothing with a bunch of full sized dogs). Additionally, the training area had multiple piles of dog poop which is concerning for a puppy class given that many are not yet fully immunized. There was never any formal instruction or structure. During the second half of class she would separate out the owners and puppies and tell them to go practice various things around the property, however, she was not providing the owners with any instruction on how to practice those things. We observed several very confused owners standing around with their out of control dogs. The free-for-all play with so many older dogs was a little too much for our puppy and frankly most of the other dogs playing were badly behaved and were barking and jumping on people. We decided the class was teaching our puppy bad habits and had no benefit so we stopped attending after 2 classes. Shelley may be a great trainer...unfortunately we have no way to know that because she gave no instruction or guidance during the puppy classes. She seemed to be very helpful for the older dogs that she was working with so if you are getting more advanced training with an older dog then I'm sure she's great based on the other Yelp reviews, I just wouldn't recommend her puppy class. We have attended several puppy classes at other companies and found them much more appropriate for early socialization and training of young puppies. read more

Update: We've since been able to contact Shelley. She apologized to us and showed up at an appointment we made thereafter. She recommended we rehome our dog and has been working hard to try to find a rescue that will accept our dog. She informed us she's offering training to whichever rescue does take our dog, which is kind. We've only had one session with Shelley so far, but she's missed two others that we scheduled with her. We paid up front at the first session for all five sessions. Shelly seems to really care about the dogs she's working with and I'm sure we'd see improvements over time with working with her. The second session Shelly wasn't able to make because she was sick. I completely understand this and don't hold it against her at all. Our third session was scheduled yesterday, a Wednesday. We spoke with her on Monday and she said she would stop by on Tuesday so we could buy some supplements to help alleviate our dog's joint pain from her. She said she would call or text before she came. She didn't call or text and never showed on Tuesday. She also never contacted us on Wednesday, and never showed up for our appointment. I feel like I'm a pretty reasonable person and I understand when life happens and appointments need to be rescheduled. That being said, I feel she should have called or texted us to let her know her change of plans. I texted her and haven't heard back. I don't want to discredit Shelly's business as I've read testimonials on her website and was referred by someone I know who loved working with her. However, I will say that I do not feel I was treated professionally and I'm pretty disappointed. read more

Shelly is amazing and you can tell she really cares about the dogs she trains. My husband and I got our first puppy, Oso, an 8 week chocolate labrador, and we're feeling a little lost. Shelly came over on a Sunday and helped by answering the million questions we had and began working with Oso and us. We had peace of mind in the short time we meet with her. Our family adopted a cute four year old boxer-beagle mix from a rescue two moths ago and were struggling with major behavior issues. Shelley has made a tremendous impact on Chloe, my 3 year old German Shepherd mix. Chloe had all the typical habits that are hard to break- jumping on people, pulling on walks, not staying when told, and reacting to dogs on walks. Shelly is the best! Shelley did a private training lesson and observed my dog, Savanna's, behavior for 2 hours. Savanna, had terrible behavioral problems and was always trying to bite people and other dogs.. We live in an apartment complex and it was an absolute nightmare to take her out to go potty. Shelley saw how bad the problem was and suggested that we put Savanna on a medication that could lessen her anxiety and to also use a pheromone calming collar on her Boy was Shelley right!
