    Amy S.

I brought both of my dogs in on August 9 for grooming (no cuts, only baths, brush outs, dematting, nail grinds, and teeth brushing). I arrived to pick them up and one was still not ready but the other was about to be brought out when the woman let me know she forgot to do his nails and would do that and bring him out. I paid, tipped 22%, and waited. About 20-30 minutes goes by and a different woman who I presumed to be a manager came out and let me know that during the nail service he had been cut and they were attempting to stop the bleeding, however if they couldn't get it to stop they would need to bring him to the emergency vet which they would do themselves and cover costs. About 20 more minutes later, another woman and the woman who did themselves groom came out and the other woman let me know she previously worked in vet med and it "looked really bad". She instructed me to keep the bandages they wrapped him in for the next 2-3 hours, not to leave him unsupervised, and that once I took the wraps off if it was still actively bleeding to bring him to the emergency vet and to let them know as they would cover costs. At this point, I really had no idea how bad it was and was completely delusional thinking it was a basic quick cut or I would have asked for a refund at this point and asked to see the cameras, but I thought it was a basic cut and he just bled more than normal. On the way out, the owner of the location happened to see us walking to the car with my dog in a bandage, asked what happened, and asked that I follow-up if we needed to go to the vet, again stating this was "unacceptable" and they would cover costs. Later that night I took the bandages off and was horrified at what I saw, as it looked 100x worse than what I imagined. I also was able to realize my other dog was never brushed out and her whole back side was thick and impacted, which I paid specifically for them to brush out. Fast forward to August 10, the dried blood was coming off and I noticed his paw pad was all raw. I wasn't sure what this was at this point and wasn't sure if maybe it wasn't a cut at all and was maybe from a nail grinder getting to the pad. I tried to get into the emergency vet but they were swamped. August 11 we got in with our regular vet and they did a cleaning, wash out, rebandage, and gave us pain meds. I spoke with the owner that evening, let him know what was going on, and he seemed genuinely concerned and let me know they had watched the videos to determine what happened. He indicated no grinder was used however the nail was cut too far, causing bleeding. He let me know it was likely the Quik Stop used to stop the bleeding was likely used too much/too long, causing a chemical burn on the paw pad. He let me know he had received the vet bill I had sent and asked if I wanted to pick up a check or have it mailed. I said mailed and he said it would be in the mail the following day. He asked me to continue to keep him posted on how my dog was doing and any follow-up. August 13 the bandages came off and things seemed to look better than they had on the 11. He was rewrapped, however August 16, I then noticed he began panting, drooling, and seemed to have a panic look and could not get comfortable. I removed the bandages and the smell immediately indicated infection. His paw was swollen, smelled, red and seeping blood again, and appeared moldy. My vet instructed us to go to urgent care so we went to urgent care where he was sedated for another wash out, bandage change, and antibiotics. I sent the owner an email letting him know what was going on as well as updated photos and the bill. I also requested at this point to come in and see the video footage of the incident, as the urgent care vet did not believe this was a chemical burn from Quik Stop alone. I also asked for a refund on the grooming service (which I've never done in my life and felt like such a Karen for... but this is such a severe injury at this point, it isn't just a cut). No response. We then followed up with our regular vet on August 19. I sent another email update and copy of the bill and let him know we had two more scheduled follow-ups. No response. Today is now August 20. I have yet to see the initial check that was supposedly mailed over a week ago, no email responses, no calls, nothing. My dog was severely injured at the negligence of a groomer who just was not capable or comfortable cutting nails or cutting nails on a large dog and I now spend multiple times per week leaving work early or going in to work late to make sure my dog is seen at the vet to prevent this infection from worsening into sepsis or something and get him back up and running. There needs to be a grooming certification program standard in the industry to ensure a minimum training threshold is met. Ask a lot of questions. Be that crazy pet parent. I failed my dog.

    A happy Bean!
