I am very disappointed in my latest visit to Petco. First let me say I have six animals at my house two cats and four dogs. I recently adopted two of the dogs. So I spend a lot of money at Petco annually and have usually been very happy with their service and products. Most recently I ran in to grab two collars for the new puppies, brothers. I thought I had grabbed the same size collars but when I got home I realized I had picked up and XS and an XXS when i meant to get two XS collars. No problem, I thought, surely I can exchange it for the right size. Popped in and realized I didn't have the receipt but since it was a simple exchange didn't think it would be an issue. Boy was I wrong. The manager refused to exchange the collar because I didn't have the receipt and rudely said it is right there printed on the counter in their two paragraph return policy. Well wow! I wasn't asking for money back I just wanted a collar that fit. Is it that hard to just make an exchange? I can't believe you are out any money in facilitating these type of requests. I asked her if it was really was worth losing my business over this when she could easily just trade it out. She said yes I am sorry you feel that way but it's our policy. Now I know this wasn't her fault she has been told this is how to handle it so I say shame on Petco. But lose my business forever they did, thankfully PetSmart was right across the street so I went there got another collar and about $170 worth of other items for the new pups. I will now only shop at PetSmart. read more

Went here to get the plastic lids that you put over the dog food cans, and I had quite a time trying to find them, because many stored simply did not sell them. They have them in White, Black, and cobalt dark blue here and they are just 99 cents. They help a lot with keeping the beagles wet food fresh. Barkalicious. Now, they have an AWESOME natural food section. They carry Wellness brands and Natural Choice.....both extremely excellent companies and brands, especially if your dogs have the allergies! Go Grain Free (Natural Balance) all the way to help your animals deal with all the Austin allergies if they suffer from that issue! Howla! I really like this store, and the man who rang up my purchase today was genuine, groomed, well-mannered, and he knew how to sit, stay, and give hi-fives, such a good boy (really he rocked it like a bull dog)! read more

I had a positive outlook on this location until today. I was browsing for a dog harness and was abruptly interrupted by a female associate at 7:55pm that inquired "Do you need anything? We are closed!" I was very surprised, for I have been at this location numerous times and was ending my shopping. I responded I needed assistance looking for a dog collar and was aware of the closing time. She rolled her eyed and walked away. As mentioned, I have been here numerous times and spend thousands of dollars worth of services and pet care. I will not be visiting this locations again. This encounter was on Wednesday August 5th. I was startled and still bought the wrong size due to being rushed out five minutes prior to closing. I work customer service and am aware of that last minute guests may be minute but this is the type of service that is frowned upon by locals looking for last minute pet essentials. Jesse has groomed our dogs multiple times - and everytime they look great! Better than they ever did when we've taken them to other places. The prices are reasonable and Jesse seems to really care about our dogs. One of our dogs, Oscar, is very old and Jesse is so caring and patient with him. I hate going here for fish supplies. They ALWAYS have so many dead fish in their displays, so many of them sucked against the filter, or being nipped at by other fishes. It's very distressing to say the least. We only go here as it's the only place we've found that had the supplies we need, both for fish and for cats. We also adopted our cat from here, as she seemed very sad and miserable in the small confines she was kept in. She seemed so timid and quite, however this quickly changed when we got her home. We had never seen a cat so happy to have so much space to run around in! Again, our trips here are purely out of necessity, not enjoyment read more

Omg. The reviews of this place are hilarious. I've actually had all good experiences, even tho the place smells gawd awful bad. I always thought it was the caged rodents because it only takes one to make my whole house reek. Even when we keep the cage immaculate. Rodents are smelly!! I love the puppy training classes ... Jenna is the bomb. She will have your dog obeying commands like you never thought possible in no time. I also buy crickets and mealworms here regularly. I can tell you they have only improved the quality over the last year. I used to find mostly dead bugs in the containers and these days they are fresh and lively. It can be hard to find an employee to help me but when I do they are always super friendly. I like these people a lot. The healthy dog food selection is great and the prices are good too. read more

This is for the fish nerd who thought he knew everything in the fish department that also threatened me that he would not warranty my fish because I didn't know what I was doing. This was not my first fish tank I've had many before so I bought my daughter a beginner fish tank 3.5 gallons super easy set up I did not buy it from Petco and I followed the directions to the letter it said you can have 4 to 5 fish just make sure you maintain the water and do not feed them very much not every day. I explained this to the fish guy at Petco with the classes and the long blonde hair ponytail and he's all well that's just wrong that's Miss advertisement they're just trying to lead you on Well here it is a week later and my daughters fish are doing just fine no problems it's a beautiful tank. I would've given you a much higher rating if you would've been so rude to me especially in front of my children you guys don't know everything and I know it's your job to explain things to noobs that don't know what they're doing. But you were very rude for that you get one star and as I walked away I could hear you in the other person in the fish department talking trash about me and how I didn't know what I was talking about maybe you should focus more on customer service and niceness then being so bossy and rude... read more

Was just in Petco, we are loyal customers, to buy dog food and a bully stick. We brought in our dog as we always do. We normally go to the one in Westlake, not the one on Brodie Lane. We will never return and may start going to Petsmart. While we were in there an employee came up to us and asked us to clean some pee and said it was from our dog. I was with my dog the entire time and did not see him pee. I said to the man, I'm sorry but I don't think that was my dog. Under his breadth he said "Your dog is the only dog in the store." We offered to clean it anyway and he said went to clean it. As we were leaving, we heard the same man loudly say "I'm cleaning up after someone else's dog." It made us so uncomfortable, instead of buying anything else we hurried out of the store. We will NEVER be back. How rude. How unprofessional. read more

I have gotten my boy Maverick, a toy Pomeranian groomed by Karen at PetCo. She did an amazing job all 6 times I have taken him so far. I should have written this sooner, especially since so many of the other big box pet grooming salons do such a poor job but I have to say... if you ask for her, you will not be disappointed. I'm not a Petco fan. I find the aisles to be very narrow and the employees difficult to track down when you need assistance. I only come here because I need live rodents for my pet snakes and Petsmart charges too much for theirs (to discourage people from buying them as feeders). Overall, I think Petco is overpriced and does not offer a pleasant shopping experience. This location is no exception. I'm giving it three stars instead of two because when I can actually track him down, the manager is very helpful and a nice man. Other than that, I dread going here. read more

This review is for the Groomer, Alyssa. I get upset with PetSmart and I go to PetCo, I get upset with PetCo, I go back to PetSmart... But this time was different! My 6 yr old German Shepherd is the perfect dog, except at the vet... He is terrified! He screams, yes screams, and bolts for the door! He is taking you and anyone else in his way, out the door with him. And he is very vocal about it!! I stopped taking him to have his nails trimmed because it is simply too stressful for all involved. Then, he stubbed a toe, bruising deep into the root of his nail. My husband and I took him in to have them trimmed. ALYSSA was AMAZING!! She saw us struggling to get in the door, so she immediately came over to help us. She was calm, extremely quick and firm but gentle with my dog. She had his nails trimmed before he knew what was going on! Alyssa is my Hero! She is my new groomer!! She has a natural talent that can't be taught! DO NOT TAKE LARGE DOGS TO BE GROOMED HERE. I brought in my 10 year old German shepherd, who has severe arthritis, for a bath, de-shedding, and nail trimming. The people working were Karen and Elizabeth, and while I got a nervous feeling about them and the facilities from the moment I walked in, I wrongly assumed that these people were animal lovers who knew what they were doing. I should not have given them the benefit of the doubt. When my boyfriend and I returned three hours later to pick him up, we noticed extremely loud barking. We have had him for about three months, and I have only heard him bark ONE TIME, quietly. He was practically screaming in there. That immediately raised a red flag. She brought him out as if nothing was wrong, and it was then that I noticed that his head was swollen and bright red under the fur, with a small amount of blood. She waited until I asked to explain that he had bumped his head in the cage. She played it off as though it was a) his fault and b) not a big deal at all. When I walked back into the main area of the store, I looked more closely and saw that it was worse than I thought. I asked one of the girls at the register to call over a manager for me to speak to. The manager, Joe, quickly made some comment implying that it must have been our dog's fault, but told us he would go speak to the groomer. He came out and informed us that he had been in a kennel that only came up to his shoulder, so whenever he stood up he inevitably hit his head. This is not only ridiculous because he hit his head, but also because he was having to crouch and crawl around in that tiny cage, and he has severe arthritis. I'm sure he was in significant pain before he even hit his head! He said it, just like the groomer did, as if it was NOT a big deal. He said Petco would pay for the vet bills if he had to be seen by a vet, but I was not satisfied with this as a resolution. When I expressed this, he agreed to give us $20 dollars off of an orthopedic bed we had also bought that day. Still, I do not feel as if that is a proper way to resolve the situation. Our pet was injured and kept in what I would consider to be inhumane conditions. I definitely thought that we should AT LEAST have received a refund or a steep discount on the $80 dollars we paid them for that horrible, traumatizing experience for our dog. I have contacted corporate and will update if they take any other action to reimburse us. Whether we get our money back or not, I just wanted to warn everyone reading that if you take a large dog here, they will be kept in a tiny kennel for hours. Also, the employees and manager do not want to take responsibility for injuring your pet. This was unbelievable, and honestly one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. UPDATE: Nobody reached out to me within 24 hours, so I called and spoke to the assistant store manager, Mark, who was extremely apologetic and understanding. He agreed that the situation was unacceptable and said that it went against Petco's safety regulations and guidelines. He told me that he was going to have a staff meeting to refresh everyone on the safety and customer service guidelines, and that he would speak individually to the groomer ladies and the previous manager I mentioned. He also agreed to refund the grooming purchase. I considered changing my review to two stars, but the fact that my dog was injured and I had to go through so much trouble to get this resolution made me decide against it. I will say that if you are in this store and have an issue that a manager doesn't adequately handle, ask for Mark. He was the only one of these people that made me feel taken care of as a customer. read more

This store smells SO badly of urine that it makes me want to throw up when I walk in. I absolutely dread having to go in here from time to time for pet food. I can also confirm that there is a rodent problem. I saw a mouse scurry across the floor once which then led me to notice all of the bags of food with little discounted stickers because they have holes in them. Well as usual I wanted to buy something here and once again I see only one register open with 12 people waiting on line. I found the manager who was on the phone. When he hung up I brought it to his attention that 12 people were on line for one register. He said "I only have three people working today" I replied, "Well maybe you should hire more people.." He said "I was on the phone with my wife, she had an emergency" Well sorry about your home problems, but most people shop on the week-ends and just having three employee's working is on a Sunday is just plain stupid. I'm thinking this, I didn't say this. The manager opens up another register buy by this time there are more people on line, so I put down what I was going to buy and left. I ordered the product online instead. I notice in this store the customer service is not what it should be. Employee's act like they are doing you a favor helping you. I went into this store for the first time in many years on Thursday, April 5, 2012 and THE SMELL of urine and feces was over powering as I entered the store. As I looked around at the cages they looked like they hadn't been changed regularly. I posted on FB for all my friends to stay away from there because of the smell and one responded that she had been there on Sunday and experienced the same SMELL. That is unacceptable! 4 days later smelling the same! Those poor animals! I will never shop there again! I called corporate to complain about the smell and if you experience the same thing I urge you to do the same. These animals cannot fight for themselves! I will be checking back to see if things change and will call to report if not. Sucks being a tattle tail, but it sucks more seeing animals neglected! read more

I dropped my king Charles cavalier off and they told me it would only take 3 hours. I thought to myself... 3 hours to shave a small dog? 3 hrs roll around and still haven't heard from them. So I stopped by since I was in the area . She had just brought my dog out from the back!!!!! What were they doing for 3 hrs? I can only write a review about this store's staff, as I did not get to step foot inside. Someone left a garden hose out, and the fact that it was grey and blended into to the color of the sidewalk, I tripped and fell, twisting my ankle. A man, a person I can only assume was a manager came out and told me that was not his hose and I'd have to contact the property manager. He stated he did not know who the property manager was and then started to be just plain rude about the whole thing. I sat outside the store, on the ground for 20 minutes before I was able to limp to the car. I called the PETCO corp. office, and no one has gotten back with me. I am not looking to sue for medical bills or anything, I just think when a customer falls in front of your store, you should not be a raving @$$hat about the matter. read more

Upon walking to the entrance the garbage can right outside the door is piled high with trash that's spilling over. Not a great 1st impression. The store itself seemed dirty and old. I had to walk around for about 10 minutes to find someone to help me. However, once I found someone she was a big help and showed me where the product was I that I was searching for. I take our dog Carly there every couple of weeks for the Mini Makeover. Karen and all her groomers are always cheery and happy to see us. They do a wonderful job and Carly is not an easy client. The new remodel of the store and the $10 "Do It Yourself" pet wash station is a really nice feature, shampoo, conditioner, towels, blow dryer all included. The other store associates always ask if you need help so you and your pets needs are taken care of. read more

Kat and the girls at the groomers are awesome! I came in nervous about bringing in my new rescue who had been on a chain in a yard for who knows how long. They totally understood where I was coming from, made me feel super comfy about it and Kat volunteered to take him as she said she was the fastest and would make sure he was ok the whole time. Honestly, they were so great at reassuring this fussy, new Momma. When I came back he was on the table looking fine, and totally 100% calm. Kat and the crew are awesome! And I will be back again.
