We sent Marley to a two-week room and board and have seen a great improvement in her behavior since she's been back. We recently moved and Marley was having trouble holding commands with different owners and was leash reactive. The trainers made a point of having multiple trainers work with Marley and took her out on walks with and around other dogs. The trainers were very friendly, communicative and accommodating throughout the process. After the room and board we had a lesson where we got to spend time with the trainers and see what she had learned. We also have another lesson we can use where a trainer will come to our home to see how her training is progressing. I left my Aussie-Doodle with ATX K9 for their 3 week board and train. My absolute #1 concern and request was to stop my dog from reacting to bikes and skateboards. I got updates every 2-3 days which I'm guessing (obviously I can't say for sure) meant they weren't spending every day with my dog. During the last week I asked if he no longer reacted to bicycles. They sent me a video showing that, in fact, he still reacted to them. I asked why he was behaving like this (fear, aggression, protective response, etc), and their answer was "We don't know" and proceeded to imply lax training when he was younger. That was probably accurate, but hence the reason for taking him for "professional" training. Additionally, they use the E-Collar corrective system. They told me ahead of time that negative correction is used 25% of the time. I suspect it is used 75% of the time based upon the review I was given when I picked him up. They did teach him the "place" command which helps and he comes better than he used to (but not when he's in prey-drive mode). They offer one free post-boarding training of which I did not avail myself. If they don't know why he's behaving a certain way I didn't see the point. My wife and I have a purebred Airedale Terrier, who is 8 months old and underwent an extensive 14-week professional training course in Seattle where we were being trained how to train the dog using both prong, and e-collars. This was a trainer that trains police and protection dogs all around the world and our pup was showing real progress. She mastered basic commands, was starting to tackle intermediate tasks, and began off-leash training. When we moved to Texas, we wanted to continue her training and decided on a board and train program to take some pressure off of our move. We chose ATX-K9 because they accepted intact female dogs and assured us they could meet our training requests. We wanted our dog to ignore everyone and everything and learn to bark on command. The owner assured us this would be easy, though barking on command might be challenging. We appreciated the honesty and felt confident in their capabilities. Upon visiting the facility, we found it odd that they didn't require us to bring our dog to evaluate her before training. Speaking with the owner, he referred to himself as an "amateur trainer," which made us feel uneasy, but due to time constraints in the move and trainers in the area not accepting intact females we still chose the 4-week boarding option, hoping for the best outcome. He explained that it would give them more than enough time to get to know the dog and finish training with her. Throughout the training, the weekly "Report cards" provided minimal information and did not reflect the progress we expected. Basic commands she already knew were being revisited, and we felt uneasy but continued with the program due to our move. We understood that these would have to be addressed in some form, but our puppy takes commands from anyone with pleasure (and sometimes attitude), so it should be a breeze for even an amateur dog trainer. When we went to pick her up, she was uncontrollable, even with her prong and e-collar on. The trainer couldn't manage her, which was disappointing after 4 weeks of professional training. The trainer covered this with a blanket statement of, "It's her trying to test if she can go back to her old ways of jumping on y'all." I understand that this is probably something she tells everyone and we know our pup is excited to see us, but our dog never jumps on us, and if in the hands of a professional trainer, she should be sitting by her side, not jumping on people. Additionally, the trainer seemed unfamiliar with the features of the e-collar, stating multiple times that it didn't have an audible tone and couldn't be connected to more than one collar. The trainer explained that they used vibration and shock both which we are oh k with even though it is proven that dogs are more responsive to tonal training over vibration. Though we were made uncomfortable with the way the trainer spoke about her strikeout method of using the shock collar as it felt like the trainer was uneducated in how to use the tool. She also adjusted the prong collar incorrectly, causing the prongs to dig into our dog's neck. The prong should sit comfortably, not tight. The training demonstration was awkward, with the trainer struggling to get our dog to follow commands. However, when my wife or I gave commands, our dog responded immediately, it was as if the trainer hadn't spent any time with the pup for the past 4 weeks. The trainer did teach her to "place" and somewhat "load up" into a car, but other commands like ignoring people and barking on command were not achieved. When we got home, we noticed a few things. First, our dog had scabs on her elbows that are only found from extended and repeated impacts on hard surfaces. Our pup did not have these scars on her legs when we dropped her off, and now we are treating her for these wounds in hopes that they don't permanently scar her. Second, the flea and tick medicine that they promised to give her on a specific date was not administered. They even said they had a system to input the date and time the dog's medicine was due. Luckily for us, it was not a life-saving medicine, but imagine if it was. In the end, we received a list of learned commands that included sit, down, place, off, heel, and loose leash walking--basic skills she already knew. I'm not here to dissuade anyone from choosing ATX-K9 but rather to share my experience. If your trainer doesn't want to meet your dog before signing up, be cautious. Dog training is not one-size-fits-all, and it's crucial to find a trainer who tailors their approach to your dog's needs. Unfortunately I have many associates and colleagues who have been long awaiting for the report of our dogs training. In Amazon it is very popular to have your dog trained so you can bring them to work. Unfortunately I cannot recommend ATX K9 to anyone of my colleagues like I did for my previous trainer. read more

Steven and his team were outstanding from start to finish. We did a four week board and train with our rescue pup who came to us with high anxiety and reactive tendencies. We tried other trainers where we didn't see much change before we found ATX k9. Satchmo is the same sweet, loving dog, who now listens and follows commands, knows boundaries and can go on walks without pulling and reacting to other dogs and loud noises, both of which we have a lot in our neighborhood. It's taken several months to write this because of how atrocious our experience was. I implore anyone reading this to stay as far away from ATX K9 as possible. The well-being of your pet is far too precious to entrust to this disgraceful operation. ATX K9 recklessly mistreated our dog, and no pet or pet owner should ever have to endure such a traumatic experience. Based on positive Google reviews, we entrusted ATX K9 with our 16lb cockapoo rescue puppy, full of hope that they could help address his issues with reactivity, leash walking, and jumping on people. We were completely transparent about our concerns and desire for him to be well taken care of, emphasizing our dog was a rescue and a small breed, and that he had already been through a lot in his short life. We just wanted professional assistance in training him, believing that "a happy dog is a trained dog." What followed was an absolute nightmare. Upon arriving at ATX K9 for drop off, we were immediately struck by the nauseating stench of urine and feces that permeated the facility. We should have taken this as a warning sign and walked out, but we thought maybe a dog had recently had an accident. Little did we know this would be the least of our problems. ATX K9 promised us a 24-hour report card and subsequent updates every three days. However, the only way to get any information was to hound them via text message. Even then, the so-called "report cards" we received were painfully generic, clearly cut-and-paste from other clients that offered minimal insight into our dog's progress. When we inquired for more specific information, they reassured us with empty words and promised a detailed report card with a video. What we got instead was no report card and only a one-minute long video, 30-40 seconds of which showed our dog simply walking and the rest were screen grabs of the same photos they had already sent. ATX K9 repeatedly failed to provide the necessary communication and transparency they promised. Desperate for answers and concerned about the wellbeing of our dog, we decided to cut our losses and pick up our poor pup early. Astonishingly, ATX K9 made no attempt to continue the 'training' or to provide any explanation of what was happening. When we retrieved our dog, Steven was standing at the gate to the property, not allowing us to drive in and wouldn't say a word to us. Our dog was soaking wet, as if they had hastily attempted to clean him up. He reeked of sickness and diarrhea, his fur was matted, and he was trembling with fear. To add insult to injury, Steven simply handed us a refund for half of what we had paid, with the check memo line reading "training." The shocking ordeal continued when we got him home and he devoured at least three full bowls of food, clearly indicating he had been underfed. It appears ATX K9 led us to believe they would train and care for our dog, but instead imprisoned our beloved pet in a kennel, allowing him to get sick all over himself, and effectively starved him for a week. This company is a complete and utter scam, preying on the trust and love pet owners have for their furry companions. We recently took our mini Aussie to ATX K9 and could not be happier with the whole experience! I had personally had a bad experience with a dog training company when I was a kid, so I was hesitant to send my (now) dog to a 2 week board and train, especially since he was already a very sweet, smart and kind boy. With that said, I knew that he could be even better and I really wanted to nail down the "basics" with distractions around so I could travel with him and take him with me anywhere. Ashley, Steven, and Allison are great! My 2yo old Dachshund mix was having disobedience issues and was starting to develop some territorial tendencies and being aggressive/reactive to dogs and people around our apartment. I had worked through a few training books since I had adopted him and nothing seemed to work. I was at a loss with what to do to help him - I was always worried taking him out to the park or even outside just to go to the bathroom. I did a 3 week board & train while I was away for some travel and came back to a much more responsive/obedient pup. Ashley, Steven, and Allison have worked to train ME to better help my pup. They helped me develop a quick and easy training plan for each day as well a few things I can have my dog do during normal (non-training) time to help him. He has since become much more relaxed around the apartment, is able to be off-leash at the park, is much more obedient, and is working to be less reactive to dogs and other people around the apartment. They have given me the tools to work through any issue my pup might have. One recommendation both to prospective clients and ATX K9 would be to follow through with communication. Weekly updates on progress such as anything the pup might be struggling with, as well as videos and pictures are always really great to receive and are hugely appreciative. After getting your pup back, do not hesitate to reach out or follow up with them to ask for help. I've seen a few concerns about responsiveness (this is something I worried about as well) but as long as you are persistent and open with your communication, you will get a response and get all your questions answered! I have since left my pup with them for general boarding and they've helped him work through some issues over the course of a few days which has been really helpful. It also never hurts for them to go through a little refresher course. I cannot stress enough that the training your pup will receive is only half of the equation, owners NEED to follow through and learn themselves and work on training. Since I've started using ATX K9, my pup has had more freedom and has been happier, and I've been less stressed and am enjoying my time with my pup much more! Stephen and Ashely are miracle workers and I could not be more thankful! I sent Jolie, my 7 year old pointer/pit mix, in for a 3 week board and train session. She was highly dog reactive, not great about basic obedience, and I'd tried just about everything in the year since rescuing her - to no avail. Thankfully I found ATX K9! It's been 5 days since she came home and the change has been incredible. She hardly even pays attention to other dogs, but when she does, she's easily redirected. She walks on heel with virtually NO pulling (we even did a little off-leash time at the park today and she stuck to me like glue). She's nailing sit, down, come, and place on the first try about 95% of the time. I can leave my windows and blinds open now without the fear that she'll see another dog and lose her marbles. We have an 11 year old Wheaten Terrier and a 7 month old Boxer and the difference in our dogs is astounding since going through the board and train program. Beasley, our 6Y Saint Bernard, is such a sweetie and a very loving dog. She got along great with most dogs, but after a couple attacks at a dog park, she started showing some signs of aggression towards other dogs. She also had very bad leash aggression, and living in the heart of Austin, it was getting very hard to take her out, for there are always other dogs out and about. It starting not only becoming a stressful activity to go on walks, but also was starting to get to Beasley, because she couldn't control it. After trying a couple different trainers and group classes in the Austin area, we were a little overwhelmed and sad to not see any real changes in her. That is when we teamed up with ATX K9 and decided to try a board and train for 2 weeks while we were on vacation. Stephen and Ashley were so easy to work with and understood that our main goal was to enjoy our dog and family outings around town. After the two weeks, Beasley returned the same sweetheart, but a different dog on the leash!! I can't say enough good things about these guys!! Absolutely phenomenal trainers. We have a 1 year old pit bull that is already 70lbs of pure muscle. He's a giant toddler in every sense of the word. I've literally been yanked off of our deck when he saw a stray cat that he wanted to play with. I've had a finger broken from him trying to run after a dog that wandered up in our yard. Steven and Ashley are incredible. We sent out sweet piper to their board and train for two weeks. Piper is a full breed Belgian Malinois and naturally came to us with a high prey drive, biting, and as a puppy did not have a general understanding of appropriate play. She was exactly four months when we brought her to ATX K9 and came back with MAJOR improvements. What I loved most is that Ashley and Steven have a great understanding of both the dogs and the owners. They were very respectful and considerate of our needs as well. We received updates every three days and we were about to see both her progression and she was still having fun and happy. I have to admit that there was some reservation sending your dog to training for two whole weeks but Ashley and Steven made us feel extremely comfortable as they are great with people and dogs. They make themselves available at anytime for questions, big or small. Piper was kenneled indoors she had so much interaction with adults, children's, and other animals (cats, pigs, goats,etc). This was huge for us as it addressed her issues with distractions. Not only did Ashley and Steven help piper master the foundations of obedience training but she provided us with clear tools and direction on how to maintain her training. We feel 100% more comfortable taking piper in public, children, and having her around our two cats. We will certainly be using them for any additional training or their board program when we travel. If you are looking for a team you can TRUST with your fur baby while also delivering results beyond your wildest imagination, then you've found your unicorn with ATX K9. Our golden man has stayed with them twice, once for a two week good boy camp over Christmas break and again for a week this summer as a refresher while we were on vacation. The results the first time we're unbelievable, we literally joked for weeks that we couldn't believe this was our dog and that it was worth every penny. I'll also mention, he didn't lose his personality, he just learned to listen better especially when distracted by other things, dogs, people, etc. This second time when we dropped him off- he was actively happy to be there, excited the minute he realized where we were, jumped out the car with glee and greeted his old trainer and cat friend. I would highly recommend ATX K9's services to anyone - no problem is too daunting that they cannot help you to make progress with your dog. My rescue dog Zoe did the month long training option with ATX K9 in February of 2015, but has continued to do board and trains with ATX K9 on a regular basis over the course of the last 2 years, sometimes staying for up to 2 months at a time when I have long work trips or vacations. When I originally contacted them, I wanted to do the month long option because Zoe had enough issues that I felt having dedicated time for her to not only adjust to being there (she had intense fear of strangers/new situations/lacked confidence) but also then have time for them to really work with her and get some of the good habits settled in before she came back was important to me. It was the right thing to do as many of Zoe's issues still take time and practice so the month training as a starting point was really helpful. When she's done follow-up board and train sessions with them, it has been helpful for further reinforcement and for them working with her on new things that have been arising as she continues to work through her confidence issues. As some background, I was at the point of total despair with Zoe (she was a rescue from APA when she was about 8 weeks) and honestly didn't think I would be able to live a normal life with her given where her issues had gotten to. They have expertly worked through many of these things and have been able to provide a ton of advice post-training as well. Zoe still has things she's working on (what dog doesn't :) but the investment was more than worth it and the trust that they build both with the dogs and their owners is beyond what I ever could have expected. They truly run an amazing service. Why ATX K9 stands out: Their ability to really get to know the dogs, the owners needs/expectations for the training, and make tangible progress during the training as well as arm you for things you can do to continue to work with your dog once he returns. They have always made themselves available for questions that arise in day-to-day life with Zoe even when she's home with me (e.g. 'what do I do in this situation if she's behaving this way?') and to ensure you feel confident working with the tools they give you. Zoe doesn't form deep bonds with many people (although she is getting more comfortable with new people post training with ATX K9) but she loves Steven and Ashley now as if they were her second owners. I cannot begin to thank ATX K9 enough for all their help with my pup Nestlé! I've had her since she was only 8 weeks old and after a year and a half of at-home training to no avail, it was time to consult professionals. After being attacked on her leash by two off-leash dogs, she had become increasingly aggressive towards any and all dogs -- lashing out, snapping and incessantly barking. It got to the point where I didn't feel comfortable taking her anywhere and I started to grow increasingly frustrated with her, setting aside hours of time to work with her with little to no success. I started to entertain the idea of re-homing her because it didn't seem like my lifestyle was a good fit for her -- being in a dog friendly city like Austin, I wanted to be able to take her places without having to worry about her behavior or worry about how others would react. She's a German Shepherd which automatically puts people on edge, and with her behavior, I started getting comments like "you should put a muzzle on that dog." Growing more and more frustrated, I started looking into other options after my veterinarian recommended I consult a professional trainer before trying to re-home her. My co-worker had taken her husky pup to ATX K9 around the same time when I was looking and took him for behavior problems similar to Nestlé's. She had nothing but amazing things to say about the progress her dog had made after coming home and highly recommended I look into taking Nestlé as well; so I called them up! It started with a phone interview to get a feel for what kind of issues were needing to be worked through. I also learned more about the program itself and what kind of methods would be used during Nestlé's training. After giving me a detailed look inside what ATX K9 had to offer, they allowed me time to think over whether or not I wanted to proceed. It didn't take long for me to jump on the bandwagon. Throughout her three weeks at "camp" as I called it, communication was completely open, allowing me to ask questions, inquire as to how she was doing, etc. I received multiple picture and video updates during her stay as well in order to keep me sane and in the loop -- I'd never not seen her for that long before! The whole process was super smooth and altogether fairly simple. And after three weeks of training, I now have Nestlé back with a completely renewed sense of purpose and hope. She is behaving immensely better in social situations and responding to my commands more promptly as well as more willingly. I feel I finally have something I can work with and work toward with Nestlé and I no longer feel so frustrated and discouraged after working with her. I feel more comfortable taking her out and about and I owe it all to ATX K9. All in all, I 10/10 recommend ... and I already have been to all my friends and family in the area that have conveyed to me that they are having difficulty with their fur babies. I've had Lola since she was 12-weeks old. She's my everything and when I saw her starting to be fearful of people and dogs when I would walk her, or when people would visit -- I was sort of lost. I looked online and found ATX K9. They had phenomenal reviews so I had a phone consult. Steven made me feel confident and at ease, so I booked her for a 4-week board and train while I was traveling. They have a great property with a new kennel building. It was so hard to be away from her , but I picked her up yesterday! It's been less than 24 hours and she is basically a new dog. Someone came to the door today and she only barked once. And then greeted the lady at the door. She was still a little nervous but I was blown away. Normally she would bark and not listen to my reassurance. We went on a walk and she stayed by my side and listened when I said "heel". When Ashley and Steve told me they could take my dog for 2 weeks and when she came back she'd be able to go out in public without pulling me on the leash or that she could be off leash and come when called I thought it was too good to be true. However, when I saw all the 5 star reviews, I knew it was worth a shot. I'm SO glad we sent our little pit mix to them. She's always been a sweetie, but she needed some serious help on and off leash and with staying put when told. The transformation she made in just two weeks is amazing. Incredible! I am so impressed that I'm lost for words. My dog Bella used to bark at people, dogs, and every little sound. She used to randomly attack my other dog. She never listened and knew very minimal commands, and the commands she knew she ignored half the time. She went to a 2 week board and train and is a completely changed, calm, listening, and overall greatly improved pup! The training she got was worth every single penny! She seems so happy and listens to every command I give! She ignores noises and many other distractions. I never even imagined she'd be able to do half the things she's doing! Ashley (and Steve) have been instrumental in reigning in my wild little puppy. I placed him in their care for 2 weeks for a full board and train and he came back like an adult with so much more maturity and understanding of commands and tasks. Of course, he needs a little reinforcement here and there at his age of 11 months now, but he wasn't even in the position to be taught before Ashley; now with a little TLC, he gets it and stays on point. I choose Ashley whenever I need boarding for my boy since I know how well she takes after the animals and cares for them. They even come back with a little extra training reinforcement. They helped our dogs work through general obedience, dog on dog reactivity and then spent the additional time necessary to ensure we, as the handlers, knew how to continue the training. The dogs are also well cared for outside of training sessions. Background: We recently moved to Austin with our two dogs (18-month Weimaraner and 2-year Great Dane mix). Shortly before the move we started experiencing dog on dog reactivity and aggression from the Weimaraner, who is the Alpha between the two dogs. The stress of moving and trying to settle into a new environment made the issues worse and the Great Dane began adopting some of the bad behavior. Although we had been trying very hard to train them ourselves, we decided it was time for more professional help. I spent days researching dog training options in the Austin area, reading reviews, and speaking with various companies about training methods, policies, and value. After all the research we decided ATX K9 was the best fit. We could not be happier with our decision. Their trainers are professional, well-practiced at their trade and work to understand the underlying issues of behavior. They treat each dog individually and tailor a training plan specific to its needs. Upon completion of the program they offer an exit lesson where they review everything that was taught and how to continue the training at home. They also offer continued support if you have questions or concerns about how your training has been going since you left. We have taken advantage of the past few weeks and they have been very helpful with the additional questions we send their way. Our dogs are not 100% obedient yet, but they are well beyond the level we could have gotten them on our own and our hope has been restored. Our reactive dog is beginning to calm down and we are seeing a lot more of his fun personality. One of the most important things for us with a board and train option was the care of our pets outside of training times, we were very pleased with how our dogs were treated. They have an employee dedicated to taking care of the dogs needs during the day and, rotating them frequently in and out of the play yards which allows the trainers to focus more time on training. This is one of the reasons we will be taking advantage of their boarding services for any travel plans we make while living here. read more

We sent our 11-month old golden retriever Mac to ATX K9 for a 3-week board and train. Mac was a good-natured dog prior to training but had a surplus of energy and a lot of bad habits. We used to be afraid to take him anywhere but after his stay with ATX K-9, he is a totally different dog. Mac still has that puppy energy and personality but is much easier to control and we have no problem taking him anywhere we go now. The ATX K-9 team was extremely helpful prior to the training and is a valuable resource to us now as we continue to work with him. We sent our dog for a 2 week Board and Train and I could not be happier with the results. Everyone at the neighborhood dog park is asking where I took him as the change and results are so obvious! His temperament has also improved- I think he is more relaxed and secure as he knows what is expected of him and has some boundaries. Steven worked on distractions with him and he no longer wants to chase cyclists or the UPS trucks! All this in two weeks- it seriously would have taken me two years to get him to this point. I decided to sign my seven month old puppy for two week board and train program with ATX K9 and it was one of the best decisions I could have made. Bleu gets compliments everywhere we go on how well behaved he is. My puppy was very very stubborn and with ATX K9's help, he listen's to me now. My puppy no longer bites and will sit on his bed while I eat until he is released, which I found to be incredibly impressive for such a young dog. I highly recommend ATX K9. Seriously would give this place 10 stars if I could. My pup is a sweet boy who loves people but isn't very fond of other dogs. He struggles with resource guarding and dog reactivity the most. His aggression got to the point where he would attack other dogs in the general vicinity without even being provoked...needless to say, I was at the end of my rope and knew he would do best with people who really knew what they were doing and could work with both myself and my dog. After leaving him in the capable hands of ATX K9 for two weeks, he is a changed dog. They worked with him on general obedience, leash manners, resource guarding, reactivity, and a host of other things. I could never take him out in public before, even to Town Lake for a walk, because I couldn't trust him to be calm around the other dogs. Now, he is doing SO well on the leash. His "off" command has been a lifesaver and now I take him with me to work every day (luckily I work in a vineyard where there is ample space to run and play) and let him off leash. He stays with me and listens to commands. Even when another winery patron brings their dog out, he sits patiently at my side and acts completely indifferent towards them. I cannot believe how much better he is doing. There was a time where I thought I would never be able to bring my best little buddy wth me anywhere public again. I sent my 7 month old pit mix pup, Sophie, to Steven and Ashley for a two week board and train in January. Prior to training, she understood basic commands but could not focus around distractions and had a hard time listening in exciting situations (e.g., around other dogs, houseguests, etc.). After two weeks with Steven and Ashley, the difference was incredible. The morning I picked Sophie up, I took her to brunch with a friend. She was able to stay "down" on the patio the whole time (with a couple reminders), even with another puppy a few yards away. Since that time, Sophie has only gotten better. She comes nearly everywhere with me and is well behaved in all situations. I keep her off leash much of the time now, even in our unfenced front yard. I recently had a large group of friends over for dinner and Sophie stayed on "place" the whole time, regardless of all the excitement and food. A two week board and train is a big commitment, but I would not hesitate to do it all over again. Sophie's life and mine are better for it. read more
