My husband and I feel obligated to share our experience with Precision K9. A few months ago, we dropped off our 9-month-old German shepherd at this facility for a 10-day board and train program. The limited reviews seemed positive and indicated that they had experience training many German shepherds. Prior to boarding, we were told that we would receive multiple updates on our puppy's progress and overall experience. Everything seemed fine for the first few days and we received a few updates with close-up pictures and commentary. However, over the course of the week, we stopped receiving as frequent updates and started receiving videos taken from a distance instead of close-up pictures. About halfway through our puppy's program, we received an email from the staff letting us know that our puppy found a way to rub her face on the kennel and irritated her nose, but it was nothing major. Around day 8 of the program, my husband and I decided that we were missing our puppy and we asked the staff if we could pick her up early. That's when we started to notice the red flags... The staff refused to let us pick up our puppy by saying they were fully booked and could not facilitate a pickup time. After a few additional questions, we were told they actually took her home overnight to one of the staff's homes without our consent. We pleaded with them to allow us to pick her up early and they again refused. Finally, a few hours before our scheduled pick up on day 10, we got a call from the owner, Jake, letting us know that our puppy had multiple scratches on her nose. Based on the conversation, it was our understanding that we still had nothing to worry about. When we arrived at Precision K9's facility, we were horrified and heartbroken by the condition we found our puppy in. Our puppy had multiple large wounds on her head and nose, her skin was covered in scabs and lesions and she seemed like a shell of her once playful and fun-loving self. Completely devastated and shocked, we begged the staff to give us details of what happened but the only staff available told us that they didn't know the details of what happened. We immediately took our puppy to the vet for emergency care and talked to experts / other animal caretakers. Everyone that we talked to said these injuries are not consistent with anything that they've seen in a normal boarding program. Precision K9 did not communicate the extent of these injuries to us or seek proper medical care for our puppy. To make matters worse, Precision K9 let us know that they are not responsible for our puppy's injuries during the boarding program due to the agreement we signed upon check in. We see our puppy as a member of our family and it has taken our pup months to recover from anxiety when entering day care or boarding facilities. Being a Dog Trainer has its difficulties. If the dog owners never work with the dog, then it is considered the trainer's "fault". The dog should be perfect all the time? Not all the time, but again it determines how much the owners work with their dogs. Reading through the negative reviews for K9 Precision Work it was frustrating to see. As a former trainer, pet owner involvement is a huge factor in training. I worked as a dog trainer for a Franchise Pet Company for about 8 years and then retired. My family recently adopted a puppy from a shelter. I found myself thrust back into the dog training world. I found that dog training methods and views have changed since 2000. I used Jake for a "board and train" a year or so ago and when I got my dog back he had LOSTa lot of weight and hadn't learned anything new I told my husband to just give Jake the benefit of the doubt because he was so nice, and not being completely educated on what to expect maybe it was normal. We continued to try to get the results we needed, through training sessions. We brought our concerns to Jake at the time and he apologized and told us that in 5 more individual sessions he would have our dog to where I wanted. The goals of the board and train were pretty basic. The main focus was that my working dog be sent out for a bite, outed from a distance and recalled back to heel. My dog already had a "contact heel" when I dropped him off so basically all he had to do in an entire month was teach my dog to out from a distance. After the 5 individual sessions we still were no closer to the aforementioned goals. At this point I started seeing that we weren't getting anywhere and this is when Jake "referred" me to another trainer (pretty sure he could tell we were not making any lead way)After meeting various other people in the "working dog community" I met a few people who worked for Jake at Presicionk9 during my dogs stay. They informed me that the reason for my dog being so skinny when the month was over is because Jake took my dog home and only brought him to the facility to "train" a small handful of times. Jake had told us our dog lost weight because he was basically homesick, but never mentioned that he had taken our dog anywhere nor did we give him permission to house our dog at his personal residence.Aside from that, my dog stayed in a crate for an entire month and like EVERY OTHER DOG in his care is only let out to take "potty breaks" twice a day. They don't even have runs in their facility, the dogs literally stay in box crates for 90% of the day! When I learned all this a few days ago I text Jake to get his "side of the story". Rather than explaining things or attempting to make the situation better he threatened to call the city on my dog for an accident that happened with the trainer I mentioned before, that JAKE REFERRED ME TO!! So not only did Jake not have a problem STARVING my dog for an entire month he also doesn't have a problem with blackmail or threatening to call the city for a "bite" in a training session. I have screenshots of the conversation and fully intend to show everyone I can in the working dog world. Having learned what I have about Jake it's NO SURPRISE to me that almost all of the trainers that worked for him when my dog was there quit at the same time because of "ethical concerns" or that his initial start in dog training was with "SIT MEANS SIT". I am by no means a professional dog trainer, but my understanding of dog training is greater than the average lay person. We started training at home with Nina before our young lab had all his shots. Steady great progress through three lessons. Nina is great with Boomer and his parents. We then boarded-trained him for two weeks while we were at our daughters wedding around 17 weeks age. Amazing progress with all the standard commands, and great leash work. At the six month mark we boarded-trained him with Nina for off leash training. Wow, what a great dog. Comes on recall, much more responsive with all the other commands. Will remain in place without fail for 30-45 minutes while we have dinner. No longer so mouthy, quite the young gentleman dog. I would recommend Precision K9 to anyone wanting a well mannered dog. This is the story of Lexie. Lexie is a lovable Lab/Pit mix who failed a 2 week boot camp at a local training/boarding house. Her failure put her in peril as she was quickly becoming unbearable. Tearing the door off the hinges when someone rings the doorbell, barking at the neighbors when they have the gall to walk out their front door and bullying our two older dogs were her minor infractions on a slow day. Despite working with her daily she didn't seem to "stick" with the program. Enter Jake. Jake is unfazed by a challenge. I've been enjoying our time with Precision K9! My german shepherd was started in a 2 week board and train with Daniel. My dog was only able to complete 1 week, due to his health issues acting up, but Daniel was quick to notify us that he wasn't feeling well and refunded us for the 2nd week that we did not get to use. I've had my dog back home now for 2 nights and I can already tell improvements in his behavior even with him only being able to be there for 1 week. I started private lessons with Nina as well as group classes a few weeks ago. My dog had a bad habit of pulling on the leash, lunging at other dogs while walking and not listening to my commands. After attempting to find a solution or receive our money back the owner threw a fit when we stated we would settled this in court. He attempted to falsely accuse us of assault and called the cops on us. The cops came and told us we did nothing wrong and recommended we go to court as we initially had planned to do so. My baby boy started training yesterday with the best trainer I have EVER met. I just can't stop bragging about Jake and his craft. Now looking at this happy boy you wouldn't know that he was abused by people, beaten, burned and days from being put down until his angel foster moms opened their home to him. Argo was so friendly and loving to me and Lola the moment I met him. But every trainer, doggie daycare facility and even private dog sitters couldn't handle him. My first experience with Jake was observing him doing protection training--it was fascinating! I had no idea what it involved and I loved watching Jake work with the dogs. He would explain what he was doing to me as well so that I could understand the behavior and response he was working towards with the dogs. It was clear to me that he has a lot of passion for what he does. I asked Jake if he could help me with my dog who is fearful reactive. I met Jake and one of his dogs in a park location twice to work on walking past other dogs and being in the same area as other dogs. Jake has an amazing alpha presence about him and my dog was much better behaved when Jake was present, hah. We still were able to work on the reactions, though they were not nearly as intense as they usually are, and Jake showed me some helpful commands like "place" to aid in working with my dog. Our third lesson was at Home Depot. My dog has extremely intense anxiety in public places so I usually avoid taking him to them. Jake showed me how to work with my dog to get through his anxiety and encouraged me to start taking him out to places so he becomes more comfortable. However, after seeing the anxiety Jake thought boarding him would be a good idea so that he could work with him 1:1. Jake is very passionate about finding a solution! My last lesson with Jake was at a dog park. Over the course of the boarding Jake socialized my dog and discovered that the reactive tendencies are specific to my presence. He assured me that it seemed to be a learned behavior and that through socialization and exposure to public places I would be able to un-teach it. Jake is great about giving next steps and instilling confidence in dog owners. First - K9 was actually recommended to me by a lady that works at the vet's office so I felt good about the company from the start! Jake was a life saver for my extremely fearful dog, and his rather neurotic owner. I adopted Seamus, a yellow lab/Great Pyrenees mutt from a rescue outside of Dallas a little over two months ago. He was afraid of literally every single thing outside of the 9x9 foot fenced in area he'd lived his whole life in. Humans were terrifying, and everything they encompassed. He didn't eat, drink, go to the bathroom or leave his kennel for 63 hours after I got him up the stairs to my apartment (I carried all 70 lbs of him). I had a dog in my childhood, but I didn't know what to do with this dog. I had budgeted for training from the get go because I knew I'd need help. What Jake did with Seamus is what you call behavior training. For four visits over two months we focused soley on modifying Seamus' fear response. He isn't perfect, it's only been 2 months, but what Jake taught me are tools I can use Seamus' whole life to continue to improve his comfort-ability with the world around him. He could hardly move from terror when we first got him on a leash now he sits outside a cafe with me every Saturday people watching while I have lunch. Like I said, we have a lot of work to go, but Jake was invaluable to both of us. Without him the adoption would have failed. Jake worked with my Frenchbulldog, Rambo, when he was about 10 months old. I am extremely picky when it comes to my dog. I was nervous about sending him away from me for 10 days as well.
