It's to the point where I have just started grooming her myself and only going in for nail trims (still scared to do those myself!), which are usually still unsatisfying jobs for the whopping $15-20 they charge (ex: leaving cracks down to the nail bed, snags at the ends, and often drawing blood). However, I took my dog in recently for a simple nail trim and was talked into their current special of a grind, ear, and teeth cleaning for only an extra $2 by a super friendly salon staff member (Why not? It's only $2!). I have to say that I have never seen anyone handle my typically anxious dog so gently and still managed to trim her nails to the perfect length (short enough I don't have to come back within a few weeks), grind them to a pleasant rounded tip with NO snags or cracks, a good ear cleaning and teeth brushing, and at the end of it all: my dog not shaking like a maniac when she is returned to me. And all in a quick 5 minute walk-in appointment. Very satisfied and happy to write a positive review for a chain business that I would usually avoid.

We had previously been turned away by another groomer who said he was "too aggressive," so we were understandably nervous going into this appointment. Alyssa took the time to talk with us, reassured us that she could handle him, and wow...she absolutely delivered. Cupid did AMAZING with her. He was calm, happy, and clearly comfortable in her care. When we picked him up, not only did he look incredible, but he felt unbelievably soft, smelled great, and most importantly he was back to his normal, happy self. It was such a relief after struggling to find the right groomer for him. Elyssa is patient, confident, and truly skilled at what she does. If you have a dog that's a little anxious, reactive, or just needs someone who really knows how to handle them, she's your person. I grabbed what I needed and then walked around. I did some price matching of my cat food and was disappointed that a brand name food for would more expensive here. With this economy, don't they think that even die-hard PetSmart customers are probably price checking? At that point, I stopped looking at other things I regularly use for my cat. I did enjoy the reptile, fish, birds, and furry mammal sections. Who wouldn't enjoy looking at that? Of course, it wasn't what I needed and didn't tempt me enough to buy one. (I don't need my cat stalking another animal looking for a tasty treat!) So, PetSmart has a good selection of items, and the live creatures are interesting to see. However, I don't encourage you to do major pet shopping here without price matching. I'm pretty sure you can get better prices at HEB or Walmart (for the EXACT same items!).

They only have one person who works with cats. And that person is always fully booked working on dogs. So, you must catch her when she can work your cat in between her dog appointments. This means not only do you have to call to find out if she's working, but you also need to find out during her work hours, after talking to her, when she thinks she can fit your cat in on that day! You cannot schedule in advance. You are at the mercy of her dog grooming schedule. Why do they advertise walk-in availability for cats if that is not true? Other locations have given up on cat services and just focus on dogs. It seems like this location is barely trying to service felines.

However, over the past year I've experienced repeated price increases for grooming two dogs under 20 pounds, totaling about $250 including tips. Each increase came with a different explanation--inflation, weekend pricing, or being busy--which felt excessive. At this point, it feels less about rising costs and more about the owner being greedy with pricing. This is disappointing because the groomers themselves do excellent work, but the constant increases have made it unaffordable for me. I said all that to say that I wish I would've gone to Betty sooner! I got my dog Beast in 2022 and for some reason it was really hard to find a groomer--no one was taking on new clients. I scheduled my appointment online with Wholesome Doodle, answered a few questions and uploaded a few pics of what I wanted Beast's cut to look like. I was able to get aN appointment fairly quickly. Upon meeting Betty, she felt around for mats and helped me come up with a mat that would be best for Beast. Unfortunately, we had to shave him down pretty low during his first grooming appointment, but that was no one's fault but my own. Things got In the way and I didn't brush him as regularly as I should've and many mats formed. Following the appointment she provided us with a folder with care and maintenance tips for his coat. When I went to drop him off before hours, I didn't get to see the. place, but the building looked new and clean. They gave me updates and I appreciated the postcards/Facebook posts about many cat's well being. When I went to pick him up, I was impressed by how clean the place was, considering how my cats and finches were present. My cat's room was very clean, with a big window, the jungle gym setup, and a loft bed. The kitty litter had added fiber pellets, which I hope he liked since he hates sawdust litter. They gave me back everything that I left at dropoff, plus a toy. My cat was very calm, coming by his own free-will to greet the handler. To me, these were all green flags and I will highly recommend Whiskers to anyone needing a safe place for their kittens and cats to stay for a short (or long) spell. They know cats better!
