Both Jay and Alyson came to our house for a consultation to tell us about their services and to meet the kitties. We got a good impression from them and their rates are reasonable so we hired them to stop by our house twice a day for eight days. What I loved most about working with Jay and Alyson was the fact that they sent daily updates on how the cats were doing and a lot of the updates even had pictures, which made us smile each time we opened their email. I could tell from these updates that pet care wasn't just a job to them but something that they genuinely loved doing and that they were enjoying the company of our cats. They took care of minor cleanups that our cats also seem to make and even took out the garbage when it was full of cat food cans so we wouldn't come home to a stinky garage. When we got home, our house was in clean condition and the cats seemed happy, well fed and taken care of. Although it wasn't needed in our case, it should be noted that Chico & Chums is also an insured pet carer which is a definite advantage over hiring someone like a neighbor to care for your pets while you are away. We won't hesitate to hire Jay and Alyson again in the future for any pet sitting needs and am happy to recommend them to others.

Of the multiple pet sitters we contacted, Erica from Fur Your Pets was the most prompt to respond and most personable, and was the start of repeated great pet sitting service. Over the last year and a half, we went from requesting in-home visits to take care of 3 cats, to in-home full day care (pet-sitting and house-sitting combined) for 3 cats and 2 dogs - one being a super rambunctious rottweiler. We did a "trial" weekend stay in preparation for a longer trip, and Erica did a fantastic job of taking care of everyone, even the rottweiler, which we were a bit worried about. Our pets love Erica and being able to stay in a familiar environment while we are traveling really shows. I first took him to these classes when he was about 10-weeks old, so it's a great way for him to socialize with other dogs while he's still in the midst of getting his vaccinations. On 8/9/2020 our puppy went for the 1st time in his 3 short months of life to puppy socialization classes at the S. Lamar location (12 noon slot, as he's 17 pounds). We were so excited for him, taking his first step into puppy training/dog training which we're big supporters of. Both of our other dogs have had training including getting their AKC Good Citizen Certificate, but we lived in a different state at the time, hence our quest for a new trainer in Austin. Well, we were so disappointed with the quality of the experience we had to share this with others. We returned to pick him up about 10 min early and, like many others there, we looked through the glass at the puppies playing. What we observed were two very frustrated employees dealing with out of control puppies. The pups were given no guidance, they were knocking plastic dividers down (one fell on our pups head), and given treat after treat with no command- just stuffing them in their mouths. The "class" is finally over and we go in to speak with the employe and the conversation was shocking- She first said our dog cried at the door for 20 minutes "his separation anxiety needs to put under control". Well, we realize he's scared to be left alone. He was rescued at 5 weeks from a bad situation, we're all working from home and he see's us all day and the fact that we took him there indicates we realize there's a problem we'd like to help not get criticized about. Secondly, and this was the part that really, deeply saddened me. She said "he seems to have a short fuse, you know how his breed is". He's a pit bull, we have 2 others. No, we don't know "how his breed is", we don't make breed generalizations, we know it's the owner not the dog and I'm shocked a 'dog trainer' would say something like that. All with a look of 'I hate my job, hurry up and leave. so I can get on with my day' look on her face. Needless to say, it was a tough first experience for our puppy and even tougher for us to sit through when someone is making ignorant remarks about a dog's breed because of frustration or dissatisfaction in her job.
