I have two fur babies that are my entire world, as any fur parents mentality is. I did a two week board and train with my our puppies (Ziggy Marley - 1 yr. 2 months; German Shepherd / Husky mix and Walter Kronkite - 2 yrs. 1 month; Australian Shepherd mix) here to get them some concrete training. They are pretty good dogs, but needed some serious work. Both needed training for different reasons and came out much better dogs. Jessy and Rob worked with our pups and you can 100% tell the difference. They both walk better on leashes and can heel. They both sit when told and they sit before you open any door and wait for your command to continue outside. It was also Wally's 2nd birthday when they were there and Jessy put party hats on them and gave them doggy ice cream. I will continue to do training with Jessy and Rob and would recommend them to ANYONE that wants to do conventional training (e.g. no shock collar) and see immediate results. We know we have some work to do to continue the training, but I can already see results (even though they are still trying to test me!)

Dogworx is the best! When I started looking for training camps, one of my coworkers recommended them to me. I am so glad I took his advice. I have a rescued border collie mix, and I had a challenging experience with her since adoption. She was pretty afraid of people, and being a border collie, she could get away quickly if she wanted to. I wanted to be confident when bringing her to trails and on sidewalks (without worrying she'd jump on someone or otherwise flip out.) She went to Dogworx for 4 weeks, and Jess and Maria were so helpful. They sent updates throughout and were communicative when I asked questions. She came back way more relaxed, and they showed me a lot of coping mechanisms and tricks to help her navigate situations that stressed her out. After I picked her up, I was struggling to get her to behave for me the way she had for them, and they offered unlimited follow-up lessons. We've worked pretty hard, and over the last few weeks I literally haven't gone on a walk without someone saying what a well-behaved dog she is. 10/10 recommend.

    Carting practice :-)

Rob and Jessy are absolutely the best. Not only are they world-class IPO competitors, but they are amazing behaviorists and really do take the dogs special needs into account. Their training is super positive and customized. I have two mastiffs who are completely different and they are able to tailor their training to their individual personalities. So many people have told me how envious they are of my dogs -- they are friendly, easy to manage both at home and out and about (I am 5'4" and both dogs are just shy of 200lbs and I don't need anything but a regular collar). But besides making sure they are great pets at home, Dogworx has really helped me get out there with these two and experience how rewarding it is to work with a dog as a team - even with a breed that is not known as an obedience breed. Both of them have titles-- even the older one we adopted at 6 years old! My older dog, Esme, has her Trick Dog Novice, Canine Good Citizen Urban and Advanced titles as well as a Farm Dog Certification. My younger dog has his Trick Dog Performer (4th level), his Canine Good Citizen Urban and Advanced titles. And we definitely are not going to stop there -- we are so excited to keep going with the training in other sports! The training is amazing but what truly sets them apart is how much Jessy and Rob love their jobs and their client dogs. They are consistent, skilled, patient trainers but they also have A LOT OF FUN with the dogs. When I drop off my pups there for boarding, I always look forward to what crazy new photoshoot Jessy and team have cooked up! I absolutely love that they love all their client dogs and it makes me feel better about leaving them when I have work/vacation trips. To my dogs, Dogworx is not only school, but it's camp, it's a vacation and most importantly, they think it's their second home....LOVE YOU GUYS!!

I have been to another trainer before and what Daniel has taught me is so different. The way he is able to see the dog's body language, explain it to me, and react to it properly is crazy! He is very thorough and makes sure you understand what's going on before moving on. I have seen such a difference in Nova and her behavior even just after the first week, it's like two completely different dogs. Daniel is someone I would recommend to anyone struggling with their dog and I will never use anyone else for my future dogs.

He is a very intelligent dog and generally very obedient unless there is a stranger or another dog nearby, in which case he would become completely uncontrollable. We had paid many positive reinforcement oriented trainers to help us out when he was younger and less aggressive, which helped establish the obedience but did little to curb the impulse control and aggression. He was manageable for the first 5 years or so, but as we had kids and they got older we prioritized working with him less and less and he regressed into a very bad state. Up until about 6 months ago the aggressive behavior had never been targeted towards our family, however we had an incident where he gave my son a warning bit on the hand. My son had reached out to grab his collar to try to bring him inside and he didn't want to go. The bite was definitely a warning and not intended to do damage, but still left a rather deep puncture wound and an even deeper relationship damage between the kids, my wife, and the dog. Our vet recommended euthanasia. We contacted numerous trainers who were either unwilling or incapable of working with him due to his age and the bite incident. We finally happened upon Daniel who was provided to us as a reference from one of the trainers who said no. Daniel was the breath of fresh air that we needed. After a brief consultation, he very calmly and clearly explained the root cause driving Tore's behavior, much of which was frankly on us, which we expected. He felt confident Tore could be rehabilitated and that he could teach us how to manage him long term. Daniel accepted Tore into his 6-week board & train program where he takes the dog M-F, gives him back for the weekend, then starts again on Monday. Throughout the program Daniel provided updates on progress and was always available for questions. While this was not an overnight magic wand, we noticed an immediate and significant difference from that very first weekend that Tore was back in the house. We are now wrapping up week 7, the first week after conclusion of the program, and Tore's presence in this house is a night and day difference. There are still hiccups (he is 8 after all), we've had the growling incidents when he doesn't want to comply, and he still gets worked up at strangers and expresses anxiety in certain situations, but the key is that it is now manageable, and we can get it to stop without having to throw him in a different room. Further, it gets more quickly managed with each passing day and incident where Tore is put to the test. Do not get me wrong, Daniel will not help you if you are not willing to put in the work, and it is a lot of work. Full Stop. But I firmly believe that this man can rehabilitate any dog if the owner holds themselves accountable to the structure of the program. I appreciated Daniel's communication style, once I opened the door for it our conversations took on a more casual tone that I enjoyed. I felt and continue to feel that Daniel truly cares about Tore and has a passion for what he does. He provided quite a few add-on services that most would have charged for and he didn't. For example, he helped us manage Tore for a vet visit to take a look at a potential leg injury (in-office vet visits were something I frankly didn't think would ever be possible for this dog). He also offers boarding services at a very reasonable rate for his clients which is a huge win for us (he's boarding Tore for us this weekend so we can go see family for Thanksgiving). Highly recommend Daniel's services...and bonus - you're supporting a veteran owned business if you hire him.

I have had two experiences with board and train at Starmark and want to CLEARLY separate the two…read morethough my overall review stands as a reflection of the overall experience with the business not just with the trainers. My first board & train was with my male Belgian Malinois and stayed for 4 weeks with Bella as the trainer. This experience was phenomenal. Great updates on progress with commands and socialization (which was the biggest issue for him). When I picked him up the take home lesson clearly demonstrated the effort Bella and Baz had put into training and showed clear positive results. Demonstration of heel, basic commands and bite were very nice. Because of this experience I traveled from Alabama were I am staying temporarily to have my female Belgian Malinois stay for a 6 week board and train. Bella apparently wasn't available so Paige was the trainer this time around. Through email a command list was provided as well as the request for off leash obedience and intro to trail tracking if possible. The updates started and stayed positive but extremely generic. This was a statement in an update 2 "Saphira has made a lot of progress this week, and we just started e-collar conditioning today! She's already mastered the basics, " and updates such as this continued until it was time to pick her up. 6 weeks later and another trip from Alabama I was looking forward to seeing my pup and the progress she had made. The take home lesson was a DISASTER!!! When first bringing her into the room her level of excitement was clear so I was prepared for more mistakes and issues because she is younger than my male Malinois was during training previously and it had been a while. Paige demonstrated a heel and place which honestly were quite good and I was happy with the on leash demonstration. Off leash heel was less than desirable but a good introduction. The issues became clear when off leash the sit and down command demonstrations were worse than her performance of those commands prior to entering the board and train. The demonstrations became so problematic off leash that I requested her to be put on leash. With some more demonstrations with terrible results it was time for me take the lead/leash. Performance was not good but it was helpful to get the introduction to E-Collar and off leash handling before reverting to on leash. The commands that supposedly were taught (requested via email and confirmed via later email that they confirmed "All of the commands you listed below are the ones she was taught." Continuation marker - yes Terminal marker - free Sit - sitz (seetz) Down - platz (plahtz) Stand - Steh (sh-tay) Heel - foos Recal / come - Saphira Heere Leave it - lass es Out - Aus Only sit, down, heel were demonstrated with the incorrect word (English being used by Paige on several occasions paired with stimulus from E-Collar) in addition to place which I had not listed but was discussed. Out, Leave It do not result in the intended behavior (not sure if trained at all... definitely not "mastered") recall on leash requires her to see a reward recall off leash ineffective sit and down are slower, sloppier, and confusion around which to do that was not the case before training. Stand - saw no change either positive or negative prior to the training. Paige said she worked with her on trail tracking and gave me an intro to continuing that and no demonstration was provided as I am sure that would have been difficult in the time allotted but I have not worried about the trail tracking since she has been home as all of the focus has had to be on the basics that were "mastered". While continued training for the basics is always important with continued training it is as if she is starting where she was 12-18 weeks ago for sit and down. I believe too much focus was put on off-leash training rather than staying committed to the quality of training for the basics. I would have preferred honest updates and feedback with a redirection on the focus of her training to a much higher standard than broad training at a very low standard. if Bella isn't available I definitely won't be going back to Starmark for board and train as my faith in the business and other trainers has been impacted by this experience and through the email exchanges since.

The trainer was knowledgeable, but she made me feel dumb through passive-agressive comments and treated me like I was a terrible owner. It made me really miss K9HQ. I took Ruck there earlier in the year for agility and he was always so excited to see Dave, Karen, and Kevin -- and they allowed him to have his "moment" of joy. I just really appreciate how much they genuinely love my dog and how great they are with me. Dave's never made me feel like I was an idiot or a shitty owner and when I started doing agility with Kevin, he was super patient with Ruck and I. I know that I'm kind of crazy about my dog, which K9HQ understood. They get that I could just let Ruck act like a toolbag, but that I want him to be better than that, so I sought out training and they've always been very supportive of my decisions. So, since he hasn't imploded yet (fingers crossed, especially since now I have a male roommate -- who Ruck is in love with), here's your 5th star, Canine Headquarters.

She has an outstanding reputation with not only other trainers, but with local veternarians. So we went to Canine Headquarters to visit with her and see the facilities. Our visit to Canine Headquarters was WEIRD! The trainer, KARA, was knowledgeable, friendly and more than willing to answer ALL of our questions. The owner, KAREN, was actually rude to us and wouldn't allow us to see the kennels where the dogs stay when not being trained. The dogs, from what I could see, stay in kennels in a backyard with not a lot of weather protection. We were only allowed to stand at the fence and try to look in though. KAREN also talked down to her employee, KARA, in front of us which made both my wife and I very uncomfortable. The facility itself is acceptable, at best and we give it 2 stars. The treatment from the owner was flat out, unacceptable and we give it 1 star. The trainer, KARA, was awesome and we give her 5 stars. Problem is, at the end of the day, Kara goes home and what you are left with is an unacceptable facitlity. For that reason alone, we sadly chose NOT to use Canine Headquarters.
