We took our German Shepherd puppy here to go through the Good Manners class and we are so happy we stumbled across Dog Joy! First the location is remote and the grounds are very well kept. There are plenty of training areas outdoors, space to run around, as well as a splash pad pool area for pups to swim and play. Training classes were both hybrid indoors and outdoors and Briana is truly amazing at what she does. She has the best approach when it comes to training your dog and I love how thorough and informative she is. Almost every session you attend, at some point you have to demonstrate in front of the class things that you've been working on with your dog. What I love about Briana is if you do something incorrectly she does not make you feel bad, she simply corrects, redirects and then compliments once it's done right. Luna loved going to "school" and learning new things as well as playing with other dogs after the training classes were over with for the day. These classes were so important and really helped us better understand her and furthermore I think she loved wanting to learn as well. We have seen such improvement in her demeanor and behavior and will continue to reinforce what we've learned at Dog Joy. We hope to sign Luna up for more classes in the future. read more

I took my dog to the initial Tryout day & she passed. I then took her probably 2 or 3 more times to REPS Daycare dates. Andi seemed to have a great time. Their location is quite a drive for me and it's pretty expensive. For example, the last daycare visit was $84. It's 49.50 for a REPS day, then I added $20 so she could play in the splash pool, and finally, I pay $12 for her to have a lunchtime Kong. You also don't get photos unless you pay $20 for a Facebook updates pics. I didn't pay for that and therefore got no pics of her at the Splash Park and incidentally, she was not in any photos with other dogs who played (and had a ball judging by the photos on the FB page) in the water that day & who's pawrents did pay for the FB update. I'm happy to pay for my dog to have fun but the way she was apparently separated out because I didn't pay, obviously disappointed me. So, needless to say, I'm looking for another daycare that is perhaps a little closer. read more

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience with Dogjoy. My dog exhibited majority good behavior and improving behavior over more than 20 daycare sessions and classes with other dogs. However, she had a bad day and got into a scuffle with another dog (which hadn't ever happened before). Dogjoy immediately kicked her out of the daycare altogether and said she would need to be kept solo away from other dogs. To gain re-entry into the daycare, I was told I would need to attend an unspecified number of classes until the owner subjectively decided my dog was ready to return. Staff-supervised group play is apparently reserved for dogs who have no behavioral issues whatsoever. That standard feels unrealistic for large, intelligent, athletic, hunting breeds and/or teenage rescue dogs who have a ton of alpha energy. Dogjoy would benefit from implementing objective milestones that you can work with your dog to pass, like good citizen tests, as opposed to the owner's case-by-case opinion after you have spent an unspecified amount of money on classes. I also don't think that one bad interaction should outweigh weeks of good behavior given that most dogs have unpredictable moments. Also, a note that if some unforeseen circumstance causes you to miss a class (e.g. I got a flat tire) Dogjoy will not refund you for the class. read more

These are the kindest, most caring, professional, wonderful dog boarders (or dog people, since they do more than dog boarding) I've ever been to. I'll never take any dog of mine anywhere else for boarding or training and I recommend them to everyone. I've only been for boarding but I never worried for an instant about whether my dog would be taken care of while she was there - I knew she would be getting exercise, time outside, time to rest, and plenty of supervision. My dog actually got sick while she was there (important disclaimer: it was TOTALLY unrelated to actually being at DogJoy - it was cancer that had spread way faster and farther than I knew before I went on my trip. Obvi, if I'd known, I wouldn't have gone on my trip. Don't @ me. JK, I know you can't do that on Yelp) and they notified me immediately when she wasn't feeling well, kept me updated, offered to take her to the emergency vet then wound up staying with her all night in their facility before I was able to get back in town to pick her up the next day. So, customer for life. And sorry for the dog-related downer but I felt like I couldn't convey how incredible they are without sharing that information. We've taken our 8 month old French bulldog to DogJoy for a a little over a month now (a couple of times a week) for play days. The staff is fantastic. I'm a bit "helicopter" puppy mom :) and was worried he might be scared or overwhelmed by larger dogs. They assured me they put them with the appropriate group for play time, they have a scheduled rest time. I can tell they really care about your pup. We recently attended their halloween party on property. I got to see my pup in action in their fenced in play area with splash pool. So many well behaved dogs....including mine :) He had a blast. I've boarded my dog here and took their Good Manners 1 class and I'm very happy with it. Boarding is easy. First time you have to leave them for an evaluation then after that its super easy. You drop them off and pick them up when you're ready. The facilities are really nice and they have a lot of open land. My dog always seems really happy when we pick him up and its helped him get a little more use to be ing around other dogs. The class was very well taught. Briana is a great trainer. Her instructions are pretty easy to follow and as long as you actually practice at home i think you're bound to see some results. We're planning to take more of her classes later. We adopted a puppy from the Austin Humane Society and there were some behavioral issues that were a concern. Camp Bow Wow Hutto suggested DogJoy to us for some basic obedience training that could be tailored more to our pupper Mo Mo. We went for the assessment and right when we pulled into the driveway we were amazed. Well kept grounds and we could see part of one of the training areas (yes there are several) also pristine. MoMo did his assessment and we had to hear some hard truths about our boy that we knew...but just was hard to swallow. The staff and owner's honesty were refreshing, the words used were kind and our MoMo was a right little terrorist. Pet Parents beware if you cannot handle a honest and kind assessment of your pupper's potential poor behavior, maybe go somewhere where they tell you what YOU want to hear. Dogjoy is not that place. They are there for the pup, so the pup has a better life with you and vice versa. Our truth was collar grabbing, no sense of recall and resource guarding to name a few. We signed him up for Day School that night. Several weeks on and our boy...and I am welling up with tears of joy writing this...he is doing amazing! We have a trust with each other that we never knew we could have. Yes he still plays rough...he is a 20 month old puppy duh! However the rest is sheer joy. They helped us with crate training and now our boy sleeps in his at night at will - no issues. We are not calling the owner (what you do is so wonderful) and staff (freaking love you guys) miracle workers (I want to but legal blah blah blah), we are saying that they reached something inside MoMo's mind and he blossomed and grew. Before you look and gripe about cost (I did at first, my spouse did not), think hard. Do you want to replace items in your home? Find them chewed upon or missing? How about losing your pup on a walk because they did not know basic communication for recall? Yeah, that fear made me consider Day School at DogJoy for MoMo before my ATM. I have an almost 2 year old Rottie/Lab mix who's stubborn as all get out, extremely excitable, and recently has developed some reactivity to other dogs (due in part, I believe, to some bad experiences at a different boarding center). Brianna and her team has been so very helpful in our journey towards a better behaved, more relaxed Jet. Dog Joy is the cleanest dog facility I've ever been in and everyone there seems to really care about all of the dogs in there. Jet goes for daycare and boarding regularly and gets SO excited when we turn onto the road that takes us to Dog Joy. I love that the staff let me know how he's eating and that the are working with him on our training (sit, wait, leave it, they even asked what word I use to get him to drop the ball because they were working on that with him, too!!). I'm definitely a crazy dog mom and have a hard time leaving my boy but I don't ever worry about him when he's at Dog Joy! We also recently finished Good Manners 1 and I could go on for days about how much I loved the class and how amazing Brianna is as a trainer. She's so patient and the techniques and reward-based training are AMAZING! My only regret is that I didn't find Dog Joy sooner. You guys! This place! OMG! I've never seen a place quite like this (probably because there isn't anything even close to as awesome as this place.) A dog pool... I could probably end my review there, but I won't. So much thought, attention to detail, planning, personality, and genuine love for our canine friends went into creating this piece of doggy heaven. The owner, Briana, designed this place from the ground up and completely blew it out of the water (literally). Totally clean, modern, comfortable place to bring your pup for training, daycare and boarding with staff who truly love dogs and will treat yours like their own. This is not the typical "doggie jail" or "playground chaos" of other facilities. No detail was spared when developing the lodge, play areas, training areas, runs, and of course, the POOL. The grounds and buildings are immaculately kept and there is plenty of stimulation available for doggie enjoyment (custom built dog jungle gyms, people!) and it is SOOOO great that the dogs have the opportunity to go outside when they're boarded or doing daycare, instead of being cooped up all day. Our pup is a little older, so doesn't get TOO terribly active, but he still had a great time playing, running (a little), and jumping in and out of the pool with some new doggie friends. There was plenty of space for him to take a break when he wanted to out of the action. This is seriously the best place possible for you to bring your furbabies. My seven-year old pup, Theodore, has been to more doggie daycare/boarding facilities than I can count! That said, DogJoy is by far the nicest, cleanest, most modern place I've ever taken him. Instead of the generic report cards you get at most daycares, DogJoy provided a super detailed, honest account of how his day went (enjoyed being around the dogs, but didn't really play). Since Theo likes to stay on the periphery of play groups, I appreciated that their yards were big enough to give all the dogs plenty of space to engage as much (or little) as they felt comfortable with. This establishment is the absolute worst. The owner is a power tripping individual, who seems to not know as much as she preaches about dogs. I took my pup in for a simple Evaluation, so I could board her over the holidays, it was supposed to be from 9 am - 3:30 pm. I showed up, and was not given any sort of "greeting" period with the people who would be taking her. They just took her from me, and left. Not even 30 minutes after dropping her off, I get a call explaining that she is "not a good fit" due to her not warming up to them quick enough. I asked if there was any Aggression, and they said no not at all, just that she seemed a bit anxious. Big Surprise. Having just been separated from me and thrown into a field alone, I felt this was a bit unfair. I had explained to them before dropping her off she had a bit of anxiety, and would need a lot of treats and love prior to her warming up. They told me they would continue to try but it probably wasn't going to work, and to pick her up at the end of the day. I went to pick her up at 2:30 pm, and was told they would not be able to give her to me, because I was an hour early. So she was unmanageable, but I am unable to pick her up? Total power trip. Eventually I was able to get her to "see if it would work" and they brought my dog back to me. The lady came out and explained to me that unless I purchased daycare classes and training classes to "pull my dog more out of her shell" she would be unable to board with them. Ridiculous. Not to mention the complete irony, when thy brought my dog in and she was greeting everyone happily, including running behind the desk & telling the receptionist hello. Would not recommend this business to anyone who doesn't have "perfect" dog. read more

My dog Holly is sadly no longer with us. She made to the age of 15. She got to experience DogJoy for the last 2 years of her life. Looking back I'm lucky to have found a place where she got to be outside and socialize with the other dogs. I even started feeding her raw food. I have an 8 year old Pomeranian who I never even trained to sit. His barking was getting out of control so I took him to Briana and left him there for a week. My dog has been in a variety of sessions with Briana and her staff including her AKC STAR Puppy program (completed), Good Manners I program (completed), as well as overnight boarding stays, Day Camp, and a Private 1x1 training. Our dog is currently enrolled in her second 20-pack of DogJoy's rigorous Day School program as well, so I guess you can say we can't get enough of DogJoy!! Briana and her staff are professional, competent, and passionate about what they do. They take the time to understand every dog's unique motivators and apply a tailored training approach to every dog and every situation. My husband and I were personally in the Good Manners I training class that the other reviewer outlined. The family arrived late (the session had already started) and the dog was incredibly people and dog-reactive. Briana worked around the dog's behavioral issues by setting up screens so that the dog could not make eye contact with various stimuli, and then the following week (the second out of a six-class program), she had completely retrofitted the training room to be customized to this particular dog's needs. As a participant, I was amazed at the progress the dog had made in two classes and the personal attention Briana was providing the family throughout that second class. I can wholeheartedly vouch for Briana's tact, professionalism, and flexibility regarding situation. This place is ridiculous. I recently started taking my dog here and signed him up for the behavioral classes. Keyword behavior, meaning to work on his behavior. My dog isn't around many other dogs so he gets over stimulated around other dogs. Which can startle other owners. My first class didn't go very well but the second class was even worse. The trainer made me and my dog feel very unwelcome and expressed "If my dog could not behave then he cannot come to the next class". And on top of that the 6 weeks I paid for in advance is NONREFUNDABLE!!!!!!! If I could rate this place no stars I would. I do NOT recommend this place to anyone! read more

I've been to several places in Austin, and can say without a doubt that Dog Joy is the only place I trust to train & board my dog. I have a very anxious dog, who can be difficult at times and is very stubborn. Not only do Briana and the whole staff try and coach me through his issues, they genuinely care about his well being and take every measures to ensure he is comfortable when he is there. He gets very nervous when he goes outside, but he is immediately happy to arrive at Dog Joy. Briana is the kind of trainer that will tell you how it is, she is very honest and straight forward, characteristics that training & boarding facilities who only care about the money do not have. You can tell that the whole staff absolutely loves dogs and care for them as if they were their own. My dog is a regular there and was scheduled for boarding a few weeks ago, but he had to undergo an emergency surgery a few days prior. After a short honeymoon period with our beautiful Lab-Retriever rescue, we discovered he has OCD. He was unmanageable on lead, frantically obsessed with light and shadows, and Tasmanian devil crazy around other dogs on lead. He took me off my feet more than a few times - even in a prong collar. Even after the vet started Bullet on Prozac, he was very hard to live with, despite being affectionate and an absolute charmer around all people. After decades of dog ownership, we were pretty desperate. Then I found Brianna at DogJoy. Her place is her passion. The runs, yards, and pool are very well designed for their purposes. The prong collar was the first to go. Brianna has a true commitment to the notion that we can train our dogs to WANT to please us. She never used negative reinforcement, yet managed to get amazingly quick results during demonstrations. After three private classes, Bullet was very much improved - walking on lead (in a harness) without the constant tug of war. I took the Good Manners I class, six weeks with 5 other dogs and their very pleasant owners. Bullet spent most of the first class in a closet or behind screens. Brianna was always attentive and encouraging, adapting her approach to our needs and finding things to praise. By the last class, everyone agreed that Bullet is a new dog, responding to sit, down, and stand commands, and able to casually lay down in the classroom with the other dogs.
