I took my Texas Heeler here for the Reactive Rover course and it was amazing. Briana really focused on not only improving the behaviors of my dog but how we can improve as dog owners. It was an eye opening experience and I'm looking forward to future classes!

We took our German Shepherd puppy here to go through the Good Manners class and we are so happy we stumbled across Dog Joy! First the location is remote and the grounds are very well kept. There are plenty of training areas outdoors, space to run around, as well as a splash pad pool area for pups to swim and play. Training classes were both hybrid indoors and outdoors and Briana is truly amazing at what she does. She has the best approach when it comes to training your dog and I love how thorough and informative she is. Almost every session you attend, at some point you have to demonstrate in front of the class things that you've been working on with your dog. What I love about Briana is if you do something incorrectly she does not make you feel bad, she simply corrects, redirects and then compliments once it's done right. Luna loved going to "school" and learning new things as well as playing with other dogs after the training classes were over with for the day. These classes were so important and really helped us better understand her and furthermore I think she loved wanting to learn as well. We have seen such improvement in her demeanor and behavior and will continue to reinforce what we've learned at Dog Joy. We hope to sign Luna up for more classes in the future.

I took my 4 month old German Shepherd Dog "Otto"to Dog Joy to go through the STAR puppy class. He went through the classes and learned the basics such as; "sit, stay, come, and leave it". Because this went so well we signed up "Otto" for the good manners class. These classes helped us to communicate with our doggie to become the happy and healthy member of our family. I've recommended Dog Joy to people I meet who have dogs with some problems (like pulling). Hopefully we can take him back soon for more classes.

DogJoy has been such a blessing for our little family. Before we brought our little boxer puppy home, we did our homework and understood that this breed could be stubborn, have endless energy, and grow to be a 70 pound ball of muscle. Our goal with Chenko is to have a kind & well behaved member of the family who plays well with others, behaves well in all different types of environments, and is just a joy to be around. We are so glad that we found Briana and DogJoy. They have made ALL of the difference for us. We loved Briana's approach from the very first day. Your first time at DogJoy is an evaluation day. After dropping Chenko off in the morning, we received his report card in the afternoon. The team at DogJoy got to know him and let us know how they could help. Chenko & I went through Good Manners 1 & Good Manners 2. With the help of Briana, Laci, & Jackee we were able to learn from each other. Even though Chenko was always just so excited "go to school" You quickly realize that it's just as important for you as the owner to learn how to understand your dog and how to best with work with him. At the end of Good Manners 2, going through the CKC test it was such an awesome feeling to see Chenko really focused on doing it right & passing every step of the test. We also took Off-Leash social studies class and learned how to interact with and around other dogs and in all different types of situations. With each class, and with each day at DayCamp, good manners & the right behaviors are reinforced. If he has an off day, the team shares their concern and we work to fix it. You can tell Briana & team really want each and every dog that comes to DogJoy to be the best little version of themselves. It takes a village... Thank you so much to Briana, Laci, Jackee, & Tatiana. As I write this review, Chenko is at DayCamp and I'm secretly thrilled to know that tonight, he will be completely exhausted from playing with his friends (doggo and human). A tired Chenko, is a very good Chenko.

We just finished the Manners I course at Dog Joy with our one year old Collie Mix. Briana gave is SO many helpful tools for us and our pup! I cannot recommend this place enough! I tell anyone and everyone who listens it is so worth it! Our pup is so much different than she was before the Manners I. We even started taking her to day care here! They are so attentive! We cant wait to take her to another class here!

Is there a number we can call to schedule training; just want to be sure we start our 6 month old in the best course?

Is someone there overnight for the dogs that are boarded? What about if I'd rather my dogs NOT be exposed to the outdoors or other dogs?

Yes, I own the facility and live onsite...about 40’ from the lodge. We are an activity Ranch for active dogs who enjoy being outside. If this is not your dog’s thing, then we… Read more

My first board & train was with my male Belgian Malinois and stayed for 4 weeks with Bella as the trainer. This experience was phenomenal. Great updates on progress with commands and socialization (which was the biggest issue for him). When I picked him up the take home lesson clearly demonstrated the effort Bella and Baz had put into training and showed clear positive results. Demonstration of heel, basic commands and bite were very nice. Because of this experience I traveled from Alabama were I am staying temporarily to have my female Belgian Malinois stay for a 6 week board and train. Bella apparently wasn't available so Paige was the trainer this time around. Through email a command list was provided as well as the request for off leash obedience and intro to trail tracking if possible. The updates started and stayed positive but extremely generic. This was a statement in an update 2 "Saphira has made a lot of progress this week, and we just started e-collar conditioning today! She's already mastered the basics, " and updates such as this continued until it was time to pick her up. 6 weeks later and another trip from Alabama I was looking forward to seeing my pup and the progress she had made. The take home lesson was a DISASTER!!! When first bringing her into the room her level of excitement was clear so I was prepared for more mistakes and issues because she is younger than my male Malinois was during training previously and it had been a while. Paige demonstrated a heel and place which honestly were quite good and I was happy with the on leash demonstration. Off leash heel was less than desirable but a good introduction. The issues became clear when off leash the sit and down command demonstrations were worse than her performance of those commands prior to entering the board and train. The demonstrations became so problematic off leash that I requested her to be put on leash. With some more demonstrations with terrible results it was time for me take the lead/leash. Performance was not good but it was helpful to get the introduction to E-Collar and off leash handling before reverting to on leash. The commands that supposedly were taught (requested via email and confirmed via later email that they confirmed "All of the commands you listed below are the ones she was taught." Continuation marker - yes Terminal marker - free Sit - sitz (seetz) Down - platz (plahtz) Stand - Steh (sh-tay) Heel - foos Recal / come - Saphira Heere Leave it - lass es Out - Aus Only sit, down, heel were demonstrated with the incorrect word (English being used by Paige on several occasions paired with stimulus from E-Collar) in addition to place which I had not listed but was discussed. Out, Leave It do not result in the intended behavior (not sure if trained at all... definitely not "mastered") recall on leash requires her to see a reward recall off leash ineffective sit and down are slower, sloppier, and confusion around which to do that was not the case before training. Stand - saw no change either positive or negative prior to the training. Paige said she worked with her on trail tracking and gave me an intro to continuing that and no demonstration was provided as I am sure that would have been difficult in the time allotted but I have not worried about the trail tracking since she has been home as all of the focus has had to be on the basics that were "mastered". While continued training for the basics is always important with continued training it is as if she is starting where she was 12-18 weeks ago for sit and down. I believe too much focus was put on off-leash training rather than staying committed to the quality of training for the basics. I would have preferred honest updates and feedback with a redirection on the focus of her training to a much higher standard than broad training at a very low standard. if Bella isn't available I definitely won't be going back to Starmark for board and train as my faith in the business and other trainers has been impacted by this experience and through the email exchanges since.

I was unable to fly with him over the Christmas break, so I made sure to reserve him a spot to board. In prep, I dropped him off for day camp so I could get a feel for the place and he could get used to the staff and the smells. After the day camps and whenever I checked in during his week stay, I wanted to know how he was doing. He's a puppy, so the way he's socializing and his schedule for feeding and potty times are super important to me. Every time I asked, it was so vague. "He's doing great!", but no one seemed to know anything specific until I really pressed for information. And I heard different information from each staff member. My real issue is here: When we picked him up from a week stay, the owner/groomer met us outside to talk about his health. She claimed to be a vet tech for many years, and was concerned about his weight. She made us feel guilty about his grooming and how skinny he was (again, he's a large breed puppy) and recommended adding tuna to his diet. We felt so awful that we immediately took her advice. DO NOT FEED YOUR DOG TUNA. it's filled with mercury. After less than two cans, my dog now has an infection and constant diarrhea almost two weeks later. He picked up an infection (either from the tuna or the place) and is now on antibiotics. Now, I should have absolutely done my research as a "parent." But to claim to be a medical professional and guilt us into making incredibly unhealthy choices for our puppy, makes me so angry and upset. We won't be going back.

We've boarded our dog there a few times. The last time we boarded our dog there they lost both her harness and her food. I only got it back after calling and following up and insisting that I left plenty of food (I always leave a full bag). They suddenly found both her harness and food. I brushed it off as an honest mistake, but after this visit I'm really unsure. I picked my dog up today and the employees came out and charged me, brought out her dry food, and then brought out my dog. As I was taking her to the other side of the truck the owners' dogs got out of their fence (the owners' house is next door to the pet resort) and ran after us. 3 of them were small dogs but one was a doberman (or something similiar looking) and was growling and snapping at us. I hurried and got my dog in the truck and stood there with her while the employees got the dogs back in the fence. I was obviously upset and wanted to speak with someone about what just happened. As I was waiting for one of the employees to call the owners I noticed a patch of missing fur from my dogs leg. No idea if it happened just then or if it was from earlier in the week but it definitely wasn't like that when I dropped her off. The employee had to call the owners twice. The first time he was asking them to come outside and it sounded like they hung up on him. I insisted I wanted to speak with someone and he called again and said they were coming. I had to ask him to grab my dog's canned food that they had forgotten while we were waiting for the owner. At this point I would have been completely happy with someone seeming like they cared even a little. You would think the OWNER of a pet boarding place would care about animals. She made absolutely no attempt at coming to see me or my dog and check on things. She was obviously very upset that she had to get up and come address a situation. When I told this woman about her dogs running after us she kept claiming they were in the fence. I tried explaining they were only in there because her employees put them back. I mentioned there was a patch of missing fur on my dog's leg and clarified that I don't know if it was from this incident or from earlier in the week and her only response was to ask "is she bleeding?" and follow up with "well there's nothing I can do then". You're the OWNER. There is plenty you can do. A simple apology would be a great start. Mostly I just kept getting her saying "I hope you have the day you deserve" since apparently my day should suck for interrupting her relaxing to speak with a customer. Now that we're home and looking more closely at our dog we see a missing patch of fur on her leg, her ID tag that we made for her is gone off of her collar, she has what looks like some kind of sore in her mouth, and she's scratching at her eyes a lot. We're going to get her checked out by a vet because we are not experts in dog healthcare, but we're concerned about several things we're seeing on her that definitely were not there when we dropped her off. All we can do at this moment is document everything and get a professional opinion. A few things are concerning to us here but honestly most of it would have been assumed to be stress on our dog being away from home if it hadn't been for the way the owner behaved. I am so baffled by the fact that the owner of a pet boarding company seems to not care at all about the pets or the customers for that matter. I'm trying to wrap my head around how someone can get paid to board others' pets and then have so little concern when their own get out and run after a customer and their pet. Who do you want watching your fur babies? Someone that cares deeply for animals or someone that cares deeply for a paycheck? Edit: I disagree with quite a few of the 'facts' that Beverly responded with. I've sent her a message letting her know she's welcome to contact me if she wants to discuss my experience. I'll be happy to update my review afterwards but I'm not going to have a back and forth on the yelp page. For now, my experience with this business is listed above.
