We adopted a dog from the Austin Humane Society who ended up growing to be larger than expected (85+ pounds). We knew we needed help training him so that he would do well with our family and friends. Having adopted him during peak COVID times, it made things a bit more difficult to take our dog to public places and listen to commands. Over the past couple of years, Alex has worked with our dog to not only behave when we are at home without guest, but also when we are at home with guest and out in public. Alex's patience and vast experience with dogs clearly showed in the way she was able to work with our dog and have him focus and listen to whatever she said. Alex worked with my wife and I at our home most of the time and made it a point to have us both be confident being alone with our dog and being confident that he will behave. Alex also met us at the lake and walked the trails with our dog to make sure he would react well in extremely busy environments. Most recently, Alex began working with us to prepare our dog for the arrival of our first child. Our worst fear was that our dog would not react well to the presence of a new family member and that he would be aggressive towards the baby. Once we informed Alex that we were expecting, she began working with us to make sure we established boundaries and added additional commands and methods of training to make sure our dog was prepared for the change. We practiced carrying baby dolls and blanket and sitting down around the house as if we were feeding and caring for the baby. We even practiced walking around outside pushing a stroller and walking our dog at the same time so that he would not be afraid of the new baby items popping up around the house. We can't thank Alex enough for this training since it all has come in handy and our dog and newborn have hit it off! Our dog has been sooooo good around the baby and has made us feel extremely safe keeping him around the baby.

They only 'training' our dog came away with was for our dog to tap their nose to get a treat. HORRIBLE, don't do it if they tell you to do this. Our dog came home pushing their nose on us all the time, trying to communicate or get a treat, we're working to unteach them this ridiculous and annoying behavior. Horrible experience, wasted hundreds of dollars for our dog to come away with only annoying 'training' and malnourished and mildly traumatized. I filled out an online form, giving details about her and our family dynamics. She is generally very well behaved, has an excellent pedigree, and comes from dogs of good temperament , but like any puppy, was active and jumpy/mouthy (nipping at my son), and needed training, hence the need for classes. I was contacted via telephone by Janice, who seemed frantic and distraught about my 'out of control' dog. I was told that I would need to have a PRIVATE evaluation ($150) before being allowed into a group setting. I know now, based on other reviews, that this is common for this facility. I was completely shocked, and asked why the need for a private eval, reminding her that, again, we are talking about a rambunctious PUPPY. She responded with, "Well, she IS a Dalmatian!" That was all I needed to hear to realize that my dog would not get the respect and fairness needed in order to be properly trained. I am so glad that I did not go with this facility, based on her attitude over the phone, and other reviewers experience. My husband and I have a 10 1/2 year old dog. I don't need to tell others out there that as your dog ages, you grow a bit more protective of his care. Last 4th of July, we left our dog at the city's most expensive dog boarding place thinking, as we were new to town, that it had to be the best. Wrong! Their 24/7 camera on the crating and play area made it perfectly clear there were no humans around and we're 8 am, then 9 am and still...no person. We were panicked. While everything worked out ok (their person who was to come in had car trouble), it made for a very stressful morning. I learned you need to ask any boarding place a simple question: when does the last person leave at night and when does a person arrive in the morning? You may, I fear, be shocked by the 12-14 hour time frames. I know I was which circles back to Doggone. I emailed that question first and got back the most wonderful response that Liz and Mike never leave the dogs overnight alone. Yeah! After learning this, I was happy to sign up for Phase 1, the meet-and-greet. It was professionally and warmly handled. Liz and Mike answered my questions, asked me question and made it clear: I just could tell our dog would be in good hands. What a marvelous feeling! Paperwork is part of the process. They use the third party Dogvacay so payments are easily processed. I'll follow up after the boarding is complete.
