Susan Windham - Director of Youth Program

My son just completed a 4 day summer camp at The Dog Alliance. He had the most amazing time at camp and was so very sad when he had to say goodbye. This is such a great way for kids to get familiar with dogs and understand what it takes to care for a dog. Service/therapy dogs are used for this particular camp. Each dog has a trainer and the kids work in groups with the dogs. The groups are not restricted to one dog, that way, they get to work with a variety of dogs. In this years camp there was a dashhound, terrier, poodle, golden retriever and lab. How fun! Special shout out to Susan Windham, the director of the Youth program. She is one if the nicest people I've met. She is great with the kids and parents! We will be coming back next year for sure!

We took 2 puppy classes (manners & agility) this summer to socialize & train our terrier/chihuahua mix puppy, very helpful, excellent calm & experienced instructors (Kathleen R!), beautiful facility, & great class times. Can't say enough good things about them! We'll be back for more...an easy drive up from Austin & easy to work with!

The newly relocated Austin Dog Alliance is every bit as good, in fact BETTER, than the old one. The new location is gorgeous, with plenty of indoor and outdoor space for people and dogs. There is a cute little shop that sells treats and doggish accessories as well as a kitchen, and many classrooms/meeting rooms in the main building. The agility field is huge and full of regulation sized agility obstacles better than any other collection I have seen in the Austin area. The Brown Hound and I took several agility classes here and we both got a work out every time we went to class! All the folks at The Alliance are super friendly and supportive. The SnowBeast and I are a certified Therapy team now, thanks to the excellent instruction and support of Carolyn Hornish (one of the many wonderful instructors at the ADA). Whenever I have questions about our therapy work I can always ask the folks at the ADA and they go to great lengths to provide help or further instruction even though I'm no longer enrolled in a class. If therapy or agility isn't your thing, check out the long list of other services and classes ADA provides. Maybe you'd like volunteer to train a companion animal for one our returning veterans. Or what about honing your hound's "sniffy skills" by taking a Nose Work class? How about "bring your dog along summer camp?" A perfect way to get both the dog and the kids out of the house this summer. Are you interested in working with special needs kids and adults? ADA uses dogs to help folks with special needs train for jobs. Maybe you are just looking for a great dog to adopt? All this and much, much more can be found at Austin Dog Alliance. Its truly a one of a kind place full of a bunch of fantastic people and dogs!

I love animals, but never had a dog since I'm super allergic and my mom was terrified of dogs while I was growing up. Fast forward to today when I take extra allergy meds and I am bossed around by a 25lb dog all day every day. I've gone full crazy dog lady! So, the love of my life, I mean my puppy. He's my new little love bug! He's as sweet as can be, but I knew he needed some training to be the best boy ever. I researched high and low to find a good fit for my pup and I. I went for "interviews" with several highly rated trainers in the area only to find out that they used shock collars, which I just could not do on my 10lb dog at the time. He's up to 25lbs now and I still can't imagine using a shock collar on him. After tons of searches, I finally found Karma Dog. It was love at first sight. We are currently doing the puppy kindergarten and the private training. Here's the scoop: -They responded to my emails so quickly! The other places I contacted took several days to respond. Karma always got back with me in a day or less. -Puppy Kindergarten is a bit hit with my little guy. He's loves playing with the other puppies and he's always tired afterwards from getting all of his energy out playing. He's gets to socialize and learn some good behaviors at the same time. Win win. -Kelly S. was our trainer. We did 5 private sessions with her and she is just amazing. She would have my little guy acting like a perfect gentleman within 5 minutes of arriving. She gave us the tools to teach him the good way of doing things. I wish I was a puppy whisperer like Kelly. I still have things to practice with my pup, but she definitely helped us get on the right path ASAP. -Kelly was also so great working with my whole family. She included my 9 year old daughter in all of her training sessions and had her practicing as much as me with the dog. My husband was working a lot, but when he was available, he was involved in the training as well. I loved that Kelly worked with all of us to help us all have a better relationship. -Everyone I have had contact with all seem to really, truly care about animals. You can tell they are animal people who only want to help, not just make money off of you. -It's super convenient and relatively inexpensive for the private lessons, especially compared to some of the other programs I looked at. If you have a pup that could learn a few manners, I would definitely recommend Karma Dog for you.

Puppy Kindergarten is great because not only do I get to practice new concepts with her, she gets some of her energy out by socializing with the other puppies! This has been so good for her to not only learn new concepts, but also learn how to act around other puppies and people. I look forward to taking her to her class every week, and ALWAYS learn something new. The private 90 minute in home session, was really worth the price of the entire package for me. Sara was our trainer and is SO knowledgable. She made me feel at ease with my questions, and concerns and I got to see my puppy interact in a way I've never seen before. It gave me a different perspective, and I was able to see how smart my puppy truly is. I was pretty amazed and I really felt that Sara took the time not only to teach her new concepts, but to see what was most important to me as a new dog mom, which I appreciated. If you're considering Karma or a few other options for your pup, go with Karma! You won't be disappointed, and you won't break your bank either. Thank you, Karma!!!!!

TL;DR If their dog training services are as decent as some of the reviews imply, the snake wranglers clearly know nothing about dog training, and why they would allow their brand to be impacted by these subs, I'm not sure what the rationale is. I scheduled two of my dogs for snake training the same day. Neither session was productive. They tried to introduce the dogs to 4 different snake settings in the corral. The first one they approached the snake and shocked the dog. After putting the dog into an excited and unteachable state, they proceeded to drag the dog around the property instead of letting it re-enter a submissive, teachable state. They dragged her around so much so that they yanked the collar off of her neck. Then she proceeded to run around the property. I contained her and brought her back. Then coming back, the snake wranglers were just interested in moving onto the next station they had set up and not concerned about the dog, the dog inputs, or assessing the feedback from the dog. Zero dog skills were demonstrated. My other dog didn't want to follow their leash commands because the snake wranglers weren't skilled with a leash. So they drug my second dog out to the first snake with paws firmly planted on the ground. No training occurred. Just people perfunctorily going through the motions Shock. Repeat dragging the dog. Then when they tired of dragging her, they brought the snake to the dog. She was not even aware. She learned to associate the shock with the wrangler's poor leash skills and perhaps his scent, if anything at all because she was so focused on him and not even aware of the snakes. And she's the hunter we find every night shredding and pulling apart frogs or small field mice (rabbits still too quick for her). She loves to rip apart small prey. We thought she would be the one to bolt and attack once seeing the snakes. Only thing more oblivious to the task at hand were the snake wranglers who didn't know how to focus a dog's attention. If looking for snake aversion training, go elsewhere. The training was perfunctory and pure performance. There was no training. About as effective as them selling you snake oil for your dog's ailments. A better name for this offering would be snake aversion Theater.

Our pup Li'Li completed a board and train and now continues with daycare and private lessons... and she absolutely LOVES it there. We have tried another board and train and it hardly moved the needle... the key is that Unleashed trains the pup AND me! I needed to learn how to communicate better with Li. Li'Li used to be extremely skittish and afraid of people - particularly men, but thanks to the calm, confident, and compassionate training from Paul, Avery, Abby, and the entire team, she's become more confident, joyful, and open to people. The transformation is remarkable and deeply heartwarming for me as her mom. What sets Unleashed apart is not just their exceptional skill, but their genuine care and positive, no-drama approach. No yelling, no intimidation - just consistent, respectful, effective guidance. It's changed Li'Li's life and mine, too. She loves going back every few days and excited to see the staff and her furry-friends. Their fees are super reasonable, but the results? Truly priceless. I can't thank the Unleashed team enough and I recommend them with all my heart. Thank you for making our family's life significantly better.

They informed us that he was too timid and did not make the cut as you may say. Even though they offer Training for situations like this, they did not offer it to us. In an unfortunate misunderstanding between my wife and I we put a stop payment on the recent payment that had been pulled for the first dog due to the plan to pull her from the location. We corrected the situation so that we could go through the process of having the one go back, and we were gonna get training for the other one that is dealing with being timid. We were told that the owners would have to approve either one of the dogs being there because of the stop payment, even though we had taken care of everything from the very beginning. All payments have been made on time despite that issue. When they finally got back with us, they told us that they could not take the dogs anymore because of what it happened. Obviously the owners do not believe in grace or forgiveness from what we can see. My review reflects the fact that while it is a nice facility and the workers do a great job with the dogs, from our experience, the ownership needs some prayer. So in response to Jana and what she posted. To say that payment was made later is very misleading. Payment was actually made on the same day that the issue took place. You make it seem as if it happened up to a week or more later. That is untrue and I do not appreciate it being posted as if that was the case. When we came in to pick the dogs up that afternoon, we informed the front desk person Aaron what had gone on and said we wanted to make sure that we still took care of any bills that were due and I immediately put it on another card just so that that payment was taken immediately, so please rephrase your statement unless you choose to mislead people in what really happened.

Ok so I don't care what the excuse is ,I have no clue if the dogs are in cages with water or have been able to use the restroom outside their cages for at least 8 1/2 ho I've avoided places like PetSmart foe this same reason . They say oh your pets just fine we have water and we walk them when in fact they don't leave their cage for like 6 hours straight and don't have water bowls either . Even with water sitting in a cage waiting to be groomed from basically 9:00 am to past 5:30 is insane . At this point I'm within reason of being upset to a certain degree . I get they are behind maybe lack help or whatever but damn if you had too many cuts lined up for one day all you had to say was sorry we are booked and left it at that . I appreciate taking my dogs in but don't understand how a small poodle and Shih Tzu take 9 hours to get groomed . Even with doing one dog an hour which i doubt is the case you'd had to have had 15-18 dogs or more all before them if you had two groomers at the least . Even if you had only 12 dogs before them that's way to much do offer to cut in the time you guys open and close . If it's not then why is taking so long?
