On 8/9/2020 our puppy went for the 1st time in his 3 short months of life to puppy socialization classes at the S. Lamar location (12 noon slot, as he's 17 pounds). We were so excited for him, taking his first step into puppy training/dog training which we're big supporters of. Both of our other dogs have had training including getting their AKC Good Citizen Certificate, but we lived in a different state at the time, hence our quest for a new trainer in Austin. Well, we were so disappointed with the quality of the experience we had to share this with others. We returned to pick him up about 10 min early and, like many others there, we looked through the glass at the puppies playing. What we observed were two very frustrated employees dealing with out of control puppies. The pups were given no guidance, they were knocking plastic dividers down (one fell on our pups head), and given treat after treat with no command- just stuffing them in their mouths. The "class" is finally over and we go in to speak with the employe and the conversation was shocking- She first said our dog cried at the door for 20 minutes "his separation anxiety needs to put under control". Well, we realize he's scared to be left alone. He was rescued at 5 weeks from a bad situation, we're all working from home and he see's us all day and the fact that we took him there indicates we realize there's a problem we'd like to help not get criticized about. Secondly, and this was the part that really, deeply saddened me. She said "he seems to have a short fuse, you know how his breed is". He's a pit bull, we have 2 others. No, we don't know "how his breed is", we don't make breed generalizations, we know it's the owner not the dog and I'm shocked a 'dog trainer' would say something like that. All with a look of 'I hate my job, hurry up and leave. so I can get on with my day' look on her face. Needless to say, it was a tough first experience for our puppy and even tougher for us to sit through when someone is making ignorant remarks about a dog's breed because of frustration or dissatisfaction in her job.

I first took him to these classes when he was about 10-weeks old, so it's a great way for him to socialize with other dogs while he's still in the midst of getting his vaccinations. The trainers are great. They are always open and eager to answer any questions I may have. Just knowing that I have the team in my back pocket helps ease any anxiety I may have about being a new puppy mom. Kate has been especially fantastic! I had to go out of town for a work trip pretty last minute, and she was able to watch Woody for a few days while I was gone. She even gave him a little nail trim :) I felt completely at ease and comfortable knowing that my puppy was in good hands. Thank you so much for everything you do!

We really enjoyed the way the sessions were structured and now also have handouts we can refer back to in our email if we ever need a refresher. I recommend her if you're considering dog training for your pup - it is worth the investment and your dog will love her too!! :)

We couldn't have people over, and we were nervous bringing him anywhere around kids. We knew we needed some help and looked for a trainer who would come to our home to train with us in our environment. A couple of months later, he is like a different dog. Everyone who interacts with him has noticed a huge difference, and we couldn't be more grateful. Not only has he made major improvements with the training Megan did with him, but she gave us the tools so we can continue to work with him for the rest of his life. She taught us how to communicate with him and how to understand what he's thinking. We are all happier as a result. It was an amazing experience!

I just picked up my 10-year-old toy dog from Dogtopia today after a full week stay--which is a long…read moretime for him--and I honestly can't say enough good things. He looks amazing. Somehow, he seems younger: more energy, more interest in his surroundings, and noticeably more alert. On his walk, he had a new spring in his step (he's usually stiff after sleeping most of the day) and was focused and eager to move forward. He typically barks at strangers, but this time showed no interest--and dare I say, he even seemed better trained. At home, he wasn't food-focused in his behavior, and I truly believe he thinks he's still going to get the same level of activity and stimulation he enjoyed at Dogtopia. One of the best parts of his time there is the professional, supervised interaction with other dogs his own size. I never second-guess taking him to Dogtopia. The results speak for themselves.

I haven't had any issues with any reservations I have made in the past, pet drop-off has been quick and straightforward as long as you have completed all the pre-work online (pet eating schedule, medication, etc). One of the main reasons why I love this place so much is being able book a reservation only a few days prior to that date and therefore not having to worry and plan months in advance to get a spot for boarding like at some other places.

This past July she boarded him for 7 days and, again, did NOT request individual play for him. However, when she went to pick him up, they had charged her an extra $126 for individual play. She called and asked why they did that, and the girl she spoke to to confirmed that none of her paperwork said anything about her requesting that additional service, but since the service was performed she owed the money. She called back and spoke to the manager, Cody, and he also confirmed that nowhere in any of her paperwork did it show that she requested this additional service, but since the service was performed, she had to pay. This is mind boggling to me that this business (basically) admitted that THEY made a mistake and that SHE has to pay for it! Shame on you Pet Suites. You don't make the customer pay for YOUR mistake. Check your invoices everyone. Pet Suites is trying to collect more than they're owed.

To begin with their facility they do an evaluation (FREE!) which entails essentially a free day of daycare as they recommend for them to be dropped off at least for 4 hours. In addition, they are running a promo for 2 additional free days of daycare after the evaluation!!! In regards to the actual care for the dogs, you can absolutely tell the staff love the dogs. Or puppy at other daycare was extremely nervous to play/potty but not here she had SO MUCH FUN (never too much). For boarding, they give you a daily report card that includes so many pictures of the pups! In addition, they actually encourage owners to bring a bed/toy to make them feel more at home which most other places do not. On the last day they even gave both dogs a bath that wasn't requested by it was an incredibly appreciated thing they did. They have a webcam as well but I did not feel the need to check on it since I knew my pups were safe and having so much fun. This isn't just gross; it's dangerous. Secondhand smoke isn't only harmful to humans, it's been proven to cause serious health issues in dogs, including respiratory problems, allergies, and even cancer over time. The fact that the employees think this is acceptable shows a complete lack of professionalism, common sense, and basic compassion for the animals in their care. If they're this careless about something as obvious as keeping toxic smoke away from dogs, what corners are they cutting when no one is watching? I would never risk leaving my dog here. There are far better facilities that actually prioritize the health, safety, and comfort of the pets they're paid to protect. This place is a hard NO for any responsible pet owner.

He also got a bath (with a blow-dry and the cutest branded bandana ever, which is perfect for my obsessive dog-mom scrapbook). While I did qualify for their lovely first-visit-free promo this time around, even if I hadn't the price for both of those would have STILL been cheaper than what I usually pay for just his bath. Overall, prices are extremely reasonable and competitive with other animal care facilities in the greater Austin area, but honestly I've tried quite a few places and it just feels like you get *more* at Hounds Town. The staff clearly love animals, and their jobs. Everyone is so friendly. I really can't understate the amazing impression I've gotten of this establishment, just from the first day! My boy came back to me relaxed and happy, with no signs of stress or anxiety. They've definitely earned a regular customer in us.
