Doug took care of our dog Cruzer while we were on vacation a little over two weeks. What is so nice is that Doug takes care of your pet out of his own home - so there is a living room, kitchen and backyard. He doesn't take that many pets in parallel so he takes good care of your pet and gave our dog plenty of attention. I could tell Cruzer had a good time because when my husband picked him up he was a bit uncertain and went over to Doug, a sign that they really bonded. We booked them about a month in advance of our trip back East, both Doug and Kitt showed up for the initial home visit to get to know our two pugs :D ... they are bonded and insured, a must for letting someone into your home! Then about a week before our trip Doug came back for a follow-up to make sure he knew our dogs habits and where everything is in our house - kudos! During our trip he sent both my wife and I pictures of our two pugs everyday, taking them on a walk to the local dog park, a break during the day and another long break at night. My little Leo stayed with Dan and Kit for 10 days while we took a road trip. When we came back home to pick him up he looked and acted just like the Leo we dropped off! Initially, he didn't want to come with my husband, but once he saw our daughters, he jumped right into the car! This team is awesome is so many ways. The sitters are very friendly and warm people. They do not treat the animals as "just another business transaction." They really establish a relationship with the pets. For example, every day that I was away, I got a text message with a photo and an short update of our cats. In the pre-sitting interview, the team asked a lot of questions - you can really tell that these folks take the animals seriously and hold accountability to what they are doing. This team also provided additional personal services while we were away. They helped to take care of our indoor plants and ensured that the outside fountain had water. Thy even took care of the mail. The litter box area was spotless - you can tell that they not only cleaned the litter box but they ensured that the area was clean. When we got home, we got a thank you card and a bag of cookies on the kitchen counter. These nice personal touches really make a difference. I have a German Shepherd who is now 6. I was referred to Doug and Kit about 3 years ago...or maybe 4...and have used them ever since. They are hands down the best pet sitters around. My dog is excited to go to their home. When I pick her up she is happy and healthy. Even after two or three weeks (summer vacation for me!) my pup has no weight loss, no runny stools from stress, or any other health problem. They feed her the same food I buy - good quality - no grain filler. Note: I live in Santa Cruz. I drive 37 miles to Doug and Kit's. Why? Because I love my dog and want her to be with someone I completely trust will care for her properly. One other thing: I agree with the previous reviewer - every dog owner should have a Personal Liabilty Umbrella Policy. If you don't know what this is, contact your insurance agent. All dogs, big, small, young, old, no matter the breed, can unpredictable and bite. There are about 1/2 million dog bite injuries every year in th U.S. that require emergency treatment, and many others that go unreported. I felt compelled to write an update after a month to try and cool off. I stand by my review and the events of the day. I took her to another home boarding facility and the owner is also a trainer, she told me that Pepsi was well behaved and was a pleasure to have in her home. No scratching at doors or jumping (except upon my return), no issues...she is welcome back anytime! She also confirmed that most dogs have some kind of apprehension especially when left somewhere for the first time. Also confirmed jumping is standard when the owner returns. I feel that speaks for itself. Also, I think it was unprofessional to post the emails between the 2 of us, however it just proved his lack of communication with me after how upset I was. A mindful business owner would have apologized with a phone call that night (even if he felt strongly that he was in the right, the customer is always right.....he didn't even try to "fake" any concern!) And....I don't own a retractable leash. She was on her normal 4 ft leash when I picked her up and she was about 4+ feet from the curb and in no danger of traffic....yet she was pulled up in the air with force. From the moment I dropped her off, it was clear that I was nervous and needed reassurance and kindness. Nothing should have been said to me in "jest". The other woman who cared for Pepsi for 8 days showed me the kindness and care that I was searching for, text message updates and photos. She's obviously had more experience with dogs and people than DanK. I wish them the best of luck in the future and hope there was a lesson learned from this situation. read more

Would give 10 STARS if we could!!! We are absolutely blown away at the level of customer service Doug & Kit provided for our babies while we went on a cruise for 10 days on our honeymoon. We have NEVER left our 2 cats & 2 dogs before for any trip. They came to our home several times and called to make sure they were clear on all of our details prior to our departure. Ok...Obsessive details. They texted us pictures of our animals to assure they were having fun. Fed them EXACTLY as requested. They also house sat for us. The house was immaculate upon our arrival. While your pet is there they periodically send photos and texts letting you know how they are doing. No matter how busy they are if you text they will respond. I cannot say enough wonderful things about DanK Pet Sitting! We have two greyhounds and are very particular about who we trust them with given their unusual traits and needs - like having a very strong small prey drive and needing to avoid bloat to name just a couple. Doug and Kit paid meticulous attention to the information we shared with them and kept up our usual routine while we were gone for a long weekend. This included Doug spending the night at our house. The text messages and photos that Doug sent were so reassuring -- I had no doubt my girls were receiving the best care possible. Where do I begin. Doug is just awesome!!! We have used this company for over 2 years. We rescued a boxer pup when he was just 9 months old. We had never been dog owners but knew this energetic goofball named Zeus belonged in our lives. First things first we needed a reliable dog walker because we work full time and commute. I found Dank on Yelp. I called and he came out to our house to meet Zeus right away. Now, having read the only one star review on Dank I must add that I OWN A BOXER and a pup at that. My dog JUMPS and he jumps on everyone! Doug made no mention of his jumping but clearly saw my husband and I were making a huge effort to teach Zeus not to jump...on anyone...even family. Btw he is right every dog owner with a jumpy/harder to train dog should have an umbrella insurance policy to protect them from lawsuits. Back to my review. Zeus was so excited to see Doug every day. It was obvious to us our pup loved Doug and he loved him in return. Our precious goofball was a bit stubborn for mom and dad but obeyed Doug diligently so we asked Doug to help us train our energizer bunny. He took Zeus for a few weeks every day for training and then ended with a meeting at our home with some simple commands and showed us how to be more assertive with our male boxer. Zeus showed immediate improvement but we also knew age had a lot to do with his temperament. He needed to mature a bit. We have boarded Zeus with Doug for over two years when we leave on trips big and small. We have never had any issues or concerns. He is very well taken care of and loved. He is great with communicating through text to check in on your pets. Doug and his wife are like Zeus' godparents :) it is clear he knows what he's doing with pets (and their owners). read more

We used Dank again when we went on our 2 week long vacation this year. They were great as usual to our 4 kitties. So nothing new there, we expected that since they have been there for us for almost 10 years. But this time our pipes decided to burst in the ceiling above the kitchen. Kit found the leak and immediatly sprang into action and dried the laminate flooring, turned to water off to the house (not an easy task since the faucet was stripped) and put a bucket under the leak, saving our floor.
