My Bulldog Winston is pretty ridiculous. He is definitely not the easiest dog, but Happy Tails has been perfect for him. We have used them for years for boarding when we went away on vacation, but recently we had my father-in-law move in with us while he was on hospice. Winston was not a big fan of his nurse, so we put him in daycare at Happy Tails. It was the best thing that ever happened to Winston. They were patient, kind, and always loving towards him. He loves going there and jumps into the car when you tell him where he's going. After sharing my experience, he invited Orion in to assess his behavior, telling me that Orion most likely just needed to be playgroups to match his energy! They paired him with a staff dog, and Orion did great! While he barked at staff initially, they quickly saw he wasn't aggressive--just in need of reassurance and patience. Now, every time Orion boards or attends daycare, they match him with other high-energy pups, and he has the best time. Bee had such a great time I think. She got an A+ on her report card. I guess she wasn't very playful at playtime so the staff gave her one on one time. She seemed like she gained a pound or 2 but she'll lose it quickly. :) This was the first time she was living the highlife at the resort. I had lots of questions and Mike answered them all. He's great. When I dropped Bee off Sigurros came out to greet us. Bee was more than happy to go with her which made me happy. It was great to pick her up and get her home. I was boarding my guinea pig here and was happy with the experience. For starters, it's not so easy to find a place willing to board an exotic animal like that. Second of all - for 10$ a day only! They took great care of our pet, he looked happy and we also received photo updates of him while playing with employees (appreciate the extra care and attention!). We paid for their luxury suite for our dogs. Our dogs were not provided any toys and bedded was removed because our dog was "chewing on it". I fail to see how you can run a dog resort and not have equipment a dog can't chew through. When we contacted management about this to refund for the additional services we were not provided we were talked in circles. I have taken my dogs to many other places before and never dealt with such poor and rude service. Edit in response to Owner: I was clear both over the phone and in the review that I only wanted a refund for services not rendered, not a full refund. We adopted Buddy 5 months ago from the humane society and we had to go away so I was very worried about his care. The moment I walked in the front door Madison greeted me and gave me a box of kleenex because she could see my eyes tearing up. She reassured me everything was going to be fine and let me watch Buddy through the window and watch how he interacted with staff and other dogs. She also gave me her phone number just in case I had any questions or concerns that I forgot to address. The staff was amazing. Lindsey went out of her way to make Buddy feel loved and safe. I know there are several Lindsey's and I am sure they are all wonderful, but I think she goes by Renee. Shout out to all the employees. ALWAYS REQUIRE any boarding facility to show you where your dog will be housed BEFORE you ever leave them. I made the mistake of not inspecting the kennel area (yes my fault). After leaving my dog there for a few days I came back to pick it up, I found it was dehydrated, it had not slept, it could barely walk, it had pee on it and I could mention other things but I won't. LOOKS are deceiving, so always REQUIRE a boarding facility to show you their kennel area, if they won't go elsewhere as you can expect issues. read more

My 6 month old dog contracted Kennel Cough from this facility (proven by an emergency vet visit due to the excessive throwing up from his coughs). He stayed there for 10 days while I was on vacation. Ownership claims that this is the first time this has happened and is not denying that this could happen to me, or to any of you reading this. And admitted to cleaning thoroughly after my vet visit. My dogs have not visited any other off-site locations, therefore it is clear it came from one of the visiting animals and somehow passed to mine. Please note when I called Happy Tails within a couple hours after picking him up because of the coughing and throwing up, the tech/assistant admitted her mistake, and yes, she apologized that she had not told me earlier in the day when I got him (and when she noticed his coughing). At least she accepted fault. Aside from the hardships of helping a sick puppy, the most disappointing part is not being notified that something was wrong. I have owned dogs my entire life and have never had a dog come home with any sicknesses after boarding. Happy Tails will claim no responsibility if your dog gets sick. This is a decent place to board your pet if you're going out of town, but they really need to work on answering their phones. I called multiple times a day for a whole week and not once did someone answer the phone. Finally, on the 5th day of calling, someone answered the phone. Unfortunately they had just fully booked for the weekend and told me if I had tried to book a little sooner then I could've gotten my dog in. I then explained how I had been calling all week and no one answered and their only reply was that I should have left a voice message. I shouldn't have to rely on leaving a voice message if I called 9 different times. At some point someone should have answered the phone like any standard business would. If they can figure their customer service and phone answering mess out, then I'd be happy to leave more stars. read more

I've used this facility about a dozen times but never again. I boarded my dog for 1 night and when my husband picked her up he noticed her behavior was off. When I got home from work I was throwing the ball for her and noticed a patch of her coat had been shaved/cut. It's a stubble patch on her side. This is not a hot spot and she's not itching it or licking it etc. I called and left a voicemail and had to call again the next morning and Brenda called me in the afternoon. She said they don't even have clippers there?! Really?? There's s a grooming biz on site? She asked me to bring her by so she could look at her.? I work 20 miles from this place and can't seem to coordinate my schedule to do this. I was a bit concerned that no one called me to inform me that her coat was shaved?! All I know is my dog didn't have a shaved spot when I dropped her off and when we picked her up she did. TWICE my dog got kennel cough after a stay and HTPR said thanks for calling we'll go clean the kennel. To the response below: all I know is I dropped my dog off WITHOUT A PERFECTLY SHAVED SQUARE IN HER COAT and when I picked her up from your care she had a shaved square in her coat. I chose this boarding facility as I couldn't find any friends to help watch my cats while I was out of state. They did amazing. My cats weren't eating due to stress and missing home, and happy tails called me every day to update me on the babies and let me know how they were doing. I had my cats share a room but the staff ended up trying to separate them to figure out exactly which kitty wasn't eating. They were able to figure it out and the one who wasn't eating actually started to open up a little and not be so closed off once they were separated! I got pictures every other day (as part of the plan I purchased). It is a very good price but over long periods of time can be pricy. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to watch their cat or dog daily or for boarding :) I did see the dogs playing in the dog daycare at pick up and they were so cute! They don't provide proper bedding!!! Never taking my dogs here again!! I have been a customer at Happy Tails for over a year and was satisfied with the boarding services until this last visit which was inexcusable. Apparently if you're only boarding 1 dog per room, it's good, if you happen to board 2 dogs in one room though, they won't get the care they deserve. This last visit in July, I decided to board both my dog and my boyfriend's dog together to help with separation anxiety. I paid for a Luxury suite. On their site, it says two dogs can be boarded in a large luxury suite, but what they don't tell you is that they only provide ONE bed per room, even if there is TWO dogs in it. Ridiculous when I'm paying $117 a night and expecting luxury care and they aren't even getting a basic necessity. The bed wasn't even big enough for both of them to fit on it at one time. I know all this because I was able to see it on the camera in the room. When I picked up my dogs, I asked if it was normal to only have one bed in a room, and the front desk clerk, told me yes, they only put 1 bed per room due to size of rooms and not usually being able to fit 2 beds. I then asked why there was 2 beds in the room on the camera on Friday but it was taken out later. She replied it was probably because it was taken out to go into another room. Which if you can't provide beds for every dog in your "resort" then you need to book less dogs at a time or invest in more beds. Secondly I get why they won't allow bedding from home to be provided at this time due to covid, but then you should provide it, instead of giving one of my dogs a towel to lay on, on top of tile! I then went home and online cancelled my upcoming reservation for Sept and was required to have the cancellation approved and was sent this message by staff: "Thank you for bringing this to our attention!  Having been a client of ours for nearly a year, we hope you recognize we have and continue to take our personal service commitment to our clients and their pets very seriously.  We apologize for our having missed a requirement as part of your pets' experience here and we'd like to have the opportunity to re-earn your trust.  May we apply a credit toward your upcoming reservation?" While I appreciate you trying to fix the issue, I don't trust y'all with my dogs anymore. And if you miss something as basic as bedding, as said above when referring to "missed a requirement", then what else are you missing that I'm not aware of!? I'm not willing to risk my dogs' safety and comfort for a credit on my account. I now have my dogs booked for their sept stay at a different facility, and when I asked the new facility if they provided 2 beds per room, the employee kind of laughed and thought I was joking and said "of course, how it that even a question?" I wish these places would hire people that are PET people! Had kept my previous dog here and had no big problems. Recently got a new pup.... decided to take A quick trip this past weekend to see how he would do seeing that he had never stayed overnight without us. with COVID restrictions being lifted I thought I could at least bring a blanket for my dog to sleep on so he would have something with our scent on it. No such luck. In fact I had to call them because they had no play toys or anything for him to chew on In his room. About 30 min later they threw a bone and rope in his cubicle. No interaction......I reserved a room in the Tiny town area. They ensured me that he would have a Couple play times each day..... we had video availability that I liked....the play times seemed to be shorter than they stated (about 15-18 min).. and when they DID get him he was basically leashed up and dragged out of his little cubicle..... when they changed his food or whatever couldn't they just acknowledge them and give them a pet. i Did not like that a lot of the video was Cut out..... dog would be at the door then the Video would cut out and come back on 10-15 min later and dog would be gone. If it were motion detected wouldnt we see the whole video?. the front desk is very nice and I dont have a problem with them. Its the overnight help was that was horrible!! Needless to say, we will be looking for another place that cares more about their clients pets. read more

We have boarded our 4 dogs here for about 5 years now. Some stays are a couple of days, some for as long as two weeks. We also have 3 of our Standard Poodles groomed here on a regular basis. During all this time we have never been disappointed or alarmed over the treatment of our fur babies. The front desk has never disappointed either. I understand that others have had bad experiences and feel terrible for them because my dog is like my child and I would be devastated if he was not well cared for when boarded. However, I have had a very good experience with Happy Tails, and I have taken two different dogs here on a regular basis for more than 6 years. My dog goes for both daycare (on days when we work 9+ hours and don't want to leave him alone that long) and for boarding on a regular basis. We have literally taken him to daycare 100+ days over the last 3 years and he's been boarded for multiple days at least 10 times, and we have had no issues whatsoever. We always get back a happy, healthy dog when we pick him up. He actually gets excited to go there, and starts wagging his tail as we walk in the door. Our previous dog was also boarded at Happy Tails many times, and as he got older, he had some serious health issues and had to have insulin twice a day plus prescription food. He was a high maintenance pet in terms of daily medication and monitoring, and we never worried about leaving him with the crew at Happy Tails. We trusted them to take good care of him when we needed to board him, and they did. I know there has been a high rate of turnover, and wonder if that and lack of more seasoned staff members has lead to some of the issues highlighted in other reviews. I am a long-time customer, and my experiences have always been very good at Happy Tails. Because we take our dog a lot, I also see other people dropping off and picking up their cats and dogs, and also have not seen any issues or signs of concern. If I did, I would find another place for our dog. read more

Serious lack of communication. We've been coming to HTPR for about 6 mos averaging 2-4x a month. The front desk staff always seems like a mix of bored or inconvenienced by our presence. They are fast & efficient but never seem to have any contact with the dogs nor any desire to. The kennel staff always seem happy to see my guys but also seem very uncomfortable being up front. The tend to scuttle out and then back quickly as if they're afraid I'll ask how things went. If I DO manage to catch someone's eye and ask, I get a mix of "haven't been here long yet, but think it was fine", "oh, um, yeah, great!...?", "I'm not sure..." After usingPetSmart at 1890 Ranch on the weekends, we were surprised at how much MORE attention we received when we'd have expected less at a "big box" place. Unfortunately, they're not convenient at all for heading into Austin on weekdays. We've since moved on to another local facility where we got more attention and a FULL TOUR of the facility before even being handed enrollment paperwork. read more

Our dog, Java, has extremely severe separation anxiety and has never been able to be left home alone. She is a Great Pyrenees mix so she isn't exactly the type of dog we can just stick in a crate and leave alone - she will eat through the crate and eat through the front door to try and get to us. Anyway, we have been to several different daycares and this, by FAR, is the best one we have been to. They have over the top customer service and are always willing to work with the clients to provide the best care for your baby. We have a second dog that sometimes boards there and the staff are always extremely informative of our dogs' stay when we pick them up. They truly pay attention to and take care of your pet. If you would like for your dog to be available for anyone to walk up and steal then bring them to Happy Tails. I kept my dog there over the July 4th weekend and had him scheduled to stay until July 5th. We got home early from our trip so I headed up to Happy Tails to pick up my dog. They did not communicate with me that they were closed for the holiday. The front doors were locked, but I could see staff in the middle playing with dogs. I thought maybe I could see them and get their attention from walking around the side of the building. I couldn't see the staff, but I did happen to find my dog. I had no idea where he was and I wasn't planning on taking him, but he was so happy to see me, I could not just leave him there. To my surprise the gate and the door to the building were unlocked allowing me to enter and take my dog out. I could have taken all the dogs if I wanted, but of course did not. I found no people, just blaring music. I immediately called and left a voicemail at Happy Tails letting them know that I took my dog home and would be by first thing in the morning to make payment. Upon arrival first thing the next morning, the owner started by telling me we had a real problem. She went on and on lecturing me about having staff searching for my dog, delaying the feeding of all of the other dogs, ruining her July 4th etc.. because I took my dog home and they did not check the voicemail until 2 hours after they had been searching. When I mentioned to the owner about the unlocked door and gate, she stated that it has to be that way because of state law, so I am guessing it is open all the time without supervision, just like it was when I entered. She then stated that she would charge me $140 extra fee for paying the staff for the time they took to find my missing dog. I actually felt really bad about hearing all that she was saying and agreed to pay the fee without any questions or complaints. I had no intent to cause a problem for anyone. I was quiet and calm and just asked her to charge me what she wanted. That wasn't enough for the owner though, she kept lecturing me and told me on the way out that we were not welcome back. After finding my dog in a non secure location I was not even planning on coming back, so that's no big deal, but I couldn't believe how rude and aggressive the owner was with me. I am very upset with the boarding of my cat. The cage was dirty with no toys at all. I leave her some toys and they keep all her toys in a bag. I pick up my cat super skinny when she was not that way. I pay a lot for this boarding and I include TLC daily that I know for shure that they dont care properly. After reading the owner reaponse.. The thing is that Pixie eats another food by shure because she arrives with some kind of diarrea and I noticed in her crystals at the boarding. Her clothe was washed there because she geta diarrea and used a cleaning product too strong and the bright nice colors of her clothe was damage. Her skin is super super fragile and cannot wear clothes with strong detergent and also her bath needs to be with a special shampoo and I dont authorize to give her any bath or messing with her clothe. read more

I was very disappointed when my husband and I checked our 4 dogs in for boarding recently. The front staff is very inefficient. While one person was speaking with a client who had already checked out, there was only one person (general mgr) to check us in. The other receptionist was talking with a client but not about boarding or dogs. I heard Afghanistan mentioned. They were just chatting because that client was a regular. Meanwhile my chihuahua was very upset about the client's dog. I spoke with a staff member close to me (we had to go around the desk so my chi could not see the dog) and when I asked him if he could intervene and ask the client to leave, he ignored me and went over and petted the dog. No one was concerned that my chi was growling and barking and trying to climb all over me as he was upset. the general mgr said the other receptionist did the right thing to not help us because that client was a regular dog daycare client. Finally, when the client left, the receptionist checked two of the dogs in. The general manager Mike Sells was very rude and seemed to think it was our fault for not answering his questions quick enough. This was the second time we've boarded our dogs but never again. The staff is inconsiderate and rude and do not put the dogs first. They just want to make their current clients happy. The place has been acquired by National Veterinary Association and is not locally owned. You don't see that on their website. There was one staff member who was really nice and showed us where my chi would be. I don't know his name but he should be commended for helping us out. Do not board your dogs here. Try My Luv Fur Paws in Hudson Bend or Bed and Biscuit. They are both truly nice and responsible. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Such absolutely terrible customer service. I've never experienced a company care so little about customer satisfaction. We had a reservation for our pup to stay at the pet resort this coming weekend from Saturday September 1st - Monday the 3rd. We made this reservation on JULY 23RD, so WELL in advance. We did a tour of the facility and spoke with someone about the dates we were looking to book. My husband stopped back in make sure they didn't need any more information from us, and mentioned the dates we were gonna book. I did an online booking and received a confirmation of the booking. I also spoke with two different people AFTER the dates were booked (for various questions). During NONE of these conversations was it brought up about there being an issue with pick up on the 3rd... Today, 3 days before our trip and more than A MONTH after I booked our dog's stay, I get a phone call letting me know that I cannot pick my dog up on the 3rd and that he would have to stay until the 4th. When I called to address this I asked if I would be charged for the extra night - which I didn't ask to schedule - and when I was told yes I explained my frustration about this. In response the woman I spoke said "okay". There was not an ounce of apology for the inconvenience, no willingness to work with me or help find a solution, no offering of a deal to make up for it, nothing... Just "okay"... I again stressed how upset I was and how this was bad business. I was told she would "talk to management" (again with no apology in her voice) and call me right back... I never heard back. Needless to say we cancelled our stay for the weekend and have booked our pup to stay elsewhere. I will NEVER give this place my business. read more

We've had our now 13-month old rescue lab in daycare for six months now. After adopting him, he had separation anxiety, destroying his crate or any room he was left in and showing dominance toward us. Our dog had been through a lot when we got him at 5 months: original home, Austin Animal Shelter, rescue foster care. He didn't know how to be a dog. It was recommended we put him in a daycare situation several times a week for socialization with both dogs and people. After visiting Taurus and trading emails with one other facility, we chose Happy Tails. Our puppy was transformed. It was amazing. They went to great lengths to place him in play groups that would allow him to learn. They worked with him, reinforcing the basic training we had begun. And most of all, they took the time to really know our dog. Dropping off and picking up are hectic. They are dealing with dogs at all levels of socialization and try not allow too many to gather in the lobby to minimize negative interaction. My dog is always returned clean, happy, healthy. He gets so excited when he sees where we are going and can't wait to get inside. The staff always greet him by name. I can't imagine a better experience for him or us. read more

We had our cats stay here while we were out of town for several days and their usual cat sitter was unavailable. Our cats are a little neurotic so we didn't have high hopes at first. When we showed up, the staff was super friendly and let us hang out with our cats while they were getting settled in. The kennels are fairly large and the cat area was cleaner than any cattery that I've seen (and smelled) before. Both of our cats were clearly unhappy to not be at home but the folks at happy tails quickly made sure to make their area as comfortable as possible complete with the blankets we brought from home and a fresh bowl of water. We called every day to check on them and received wonderfully friendly phone service with 10+ minutes of detailed description of how our cats spent their day/night. Our cats had a little trouble eating because of how neurotic they tend to be but the staff took extra care by hanging a towel up to give them more privacy and pet them during meal times to encourage them to eat more. When we picked them up, the cats weren't in the best mood ever but they were definitely happier than when they first got there. The staff is friendly and wrote out a little report card detailing their stay and when our cats got home that day, they were back to running around and playing and weren't over stressed. Kennel Cough My dog stayed at Happy Tails for 10 days in July. We have used them in the past with no concerns. She, along with several other dogs, contracted kennel cough while there, despite receiving a Bordetella vaccine. I called our vet with her symptoms (dry/hacking/choking cough, lethargy & no appetite) not knowing what it was at the time. I was told there was an outbreak of kennel cough at Happy Tails during the time she was there and they called in an antibiotic without seeing her. I was never notified there was an outbreak. I was never notified of the symptoms of kennel cough to be aware of and what to do if she did develop any symptoms. She would have started her antibiotic sooner, if I knew this. While I understand dogs can catch things despite being vaccinated, I feel Happy Tails dropped the ball by not notifying the owners so there dogs could promptly be treated, if needed. This surprised me as Happy Tails was started by her original vet. After spending almost $400 & trusting them with my dogs care, we deserved to be notified. Not going back! read more
