If you care about your pets as much as family does, do yourself a favor and steer FAR away from this place. My autistic son took his ESA here because it was the closest vet. First of all, if you have a cat search for a veterinarian that is fear free trained and certified. After being poked and prodded without issue, the decision was made she needed to be humanely euthanized. The experience went from bad to worse. The tech that was placing the catheter for the medication was bitten by her (she had never bitten anyone in her life or even attempted to). She was fully vaccinated including fur rabies. We were told that they would have to send a "sample" for rabies testing (which means decapitation and sending her whole head). My sister works for a vet clinic and I immediately called her. She did quick research and promptly called the clinic informing them NOT to proceed until they speak. She was advised she'd be placed in cold storage. This clinic was advised because they are a private clinic they COULD decline doing this inhumane procedure for an autistic child's ESA and just do the cremation and get the remains back to him. Fast forward a few days, they call him at work and say the remains are ready to be picked up. They lied to my sister about having not sent her head in and they mishandled this whole situation all around. I've raised cats my entire life and have NEVER dealt with such handling of an already difficult situation. Find a vet who cares as much about the human's emotions as they do about providing quality care for your pet because this clinic certainly did neither. read more

We have lived here for 10 years and have used them for 4 different dogs. Unfortunately 2 passed with age. This is an amazing clinic that has helped us thru serious illness requiring hospitalization, orthopedic surgery and palliative care for 2 of our dogs. Many people at Four Paws @Four Points are wonderful, caring and professional. My sweet 12 year old dog DIED! after they misdiagnosed a mast cell tumor for 3 years. This is common in dogs. They said it was a lipoma but instead it slowly made her life miserable and killed her. At the end, they gave her a toxic RX for Metronidazole that the Emergency hospital at Central TX Vet Specialty South told me was toxic and PAZ west also confirmed that it was a toxic amount. She suffered even more at the end due to this. I told Dr. James about this and she said nothing. read more

We loss our sweet boy, Winston, this week. We were traveling from out of town to Austin,TX. Our sweet boy was not acting normal. He was an older boy. We called Four Paws. They didn't know our family. But they were so kind and considerate. They were booked solid, but they still got us in the same day we called. They sent our boy home with some antibiotics and pain meds. They had loads of compassion for him and us. We were grateful that they were able to see us. But their compassion didn't stop there. They checked on Winston. And the next day, we had to make the inevitable decision to release him from his pain and suffering. Again, from the first phone call to the end of the procedure they were professional, kind and compassionate to us and him. Dr. James is so gentle and caring with our babies. We have one kitty with terrible anxiety issues and requires constant snuggles from the smell of other animals in the clinic. Dr. James has had the absolute best advice for all of his problems, and she referred us to the best dermatologist in the area. Our other baby accidentally ingested lily pollen, and we had to take her to the ER, where she was so upset she acted out and they had to sedate her for tests. The ER also put an all caps "CAUTION!!!" Sign on her kennel with 3 hand drawn exclamation points, and they put her in a kennel surrounded by dogs. She is a big fluffy cat. No wonder she was scared. When we brought her back to Four Paws, they took her to the back to do some blood work, and she was perfectly snuggly and sweet with the techs and doctors. Some vet offices you can tell just go above and beyond for the comfort and care of our babies, and I will never change vets if I can help it. They have made a world of difference for my peace of mind. They've earned a million stars in my book. read more

Terrible customer service and never on time. This place went downhill overbooking customers during covid and it just got worse It seems all about profit with high turnover of front desk and vet techs and no follow up after visits You never get calls back and always excuses and rude. They have never been on time to any appointment and never look at the notes on your dog. I went into get a copy of records and my bills over the last year, as they would not call back to help with prescription and appointment. I was told that was rude when I pointed out they were giving me a cat record - not for my dog and it was incomplete The person at front said not her fault as she is just a lowly paid worker, and I was a miserable person. Then stormed off. I finally got part of bills for allergy treatment but not the prescription I wanted to take eslewhere -example costco that charges 50% less. I was beyond frustrated as I had been in prior to see them and waited an hour in a waiting room - never go to vet room. I said I just want prescription vs the 2 years wasted on steroids that worked only short time and had cost over a thousand. They said try a shot. I said no- I do not want to come in here and wait every time - and also pay a price more then most places. This was the same with food they said to try initially 2 years prior that did nothing I paid for that shot - then no follow up in months. So I called yesterday for prescription to go to Costco or online to save time vs wait 30-45 minutes They were so incompetent at follow up -saying a tech would call, I just went in to get in and leave. Then more fiasco. Then abuse by them and personal attacks. Again no one even looked at the poor dog all mangy looking, no prescription to go elsewhere. I paid the 100 dollars for pills and said just email me the records as did not want to wait for 2-3 years of bills. Especially when they gave me the cat records, not dog. I wrote them expecting owners to care - they did not. Said they would not follow up as I said I was terminating service. So here I am warning others. Question some may ask- why did I not leave sooner. I believed the stories - alleries are hard to figure out - that maybe pandemic - but we are out of the pandemic - and service still awful It is also 2 minute drive from my house. I know business is booming for vets but customers and their pets should matter I am busy - single parent and pet owner and do not have time to wait 45 minutes or beg for a call back. One time they even saw me in the waiting room - the tech had a posit it note- asking why I was there. I said because you would not give me a prescription unless I came in again - the 6th time in there. I did not want to answer her pedantic questions - not when she had a post it note. I said go look it up or see me in a true vet room. I had said I live 2 min away. Just let me leave- call back when you can see me. Finally a vet came to see me -said she heard I am angry. I said no - I am busy -waiting 40 minutes - and for something I had a solution -prescription - I am sick of dog itching and being miserable and coming in here every few months to get steroids- pay for fungus meds - pay for vet and waste my time I guess it is all about profit and having a practice in busy location with lots of pet owners, and obviously do not pay stafff well or even get them trained. Nor any clue how to run a business. Sure - probably a decent vet but do not go if you are busy or expect them to be on time or follow up -or ever own up to their mistakes Rant over. I have been going to four paws for years and years now. No one likes going to the vet. It means money out of your pocket, and for Eli ( My two year old Border Collie) it means shots usually. However, these people over at four paws are of a different breed all together! Today we had a bit of a scare! Eli swallowed something unusual that seemed to have caused inflammation and quite a bit of discomfort. I called them up, and they were ready for him immediately. Admittedly, I was scared, too! Though, the doctor and other staff have always been very reassuring yet professional. They led me into making the right decisions for my best friend. This all happened earlier today (10/13/20) and Eli is already home feeling much much better. I use Yelp to read reviews. I rarely take the time to write them. Though, I can't recommend these vet care workers more. Again, vets are never fun. But this place makes the anxiety filled part of it seem to just melt away. We have been coming to 4 Paws at 4 Points for 20 years now, this is my first review - MY BAD. 4Pat4P have been great taking care of our family - our Newfie and Great Pyrenees since they were pups. 2021 we had to euthanize our 13 1/2 year old elderly Newfie and earlier our 7-year-old Great Pyrenees due to cancer. They treated us and our pets with respect, kindness and care. Last week we had our first wellness checkup / shots for our 2 new Great Pyrenees pups, Jagger and Bowie. The vet and technicians were helpful and spent extra time examine and reviewing new pup detail. I can not say enough good things about the team. We just moved from the Houston area and had a Vet there that we loved (Animal Hospital on HWY 6 in SugarLand). But when we moved here, I found this place super close to my home. When I called to make an appointment the receptionist was super friendly and even laughed at my dumb jokes. We've now been to 4 Paws multiple times, for everything from our cat throwing up everything, to our dog needing some anal gland assistance to boarding and getting shots updated. And every experience has been great. Everyone is so friendly and the whole place is so clean! Also they put these adorable bandanas on the dogs and even our cat so they look like a new animal when they walk out. I can see us coming back here for years to come :) read more

They were extremely helpful in getting the information needed by phone to set up the appointment, the price was reasonable. I have been a client here for a year. I came in first as a new client during the pandemic and was happy with my experience. Today was a different story, my dog Sage is a 33 pound chihuahua mix/rescue from the shelter and was scared of the tech, Deanna, coming towards her to pick her up. After successfully picking up Sage, Deanna almost dropped her off the table twice during the visit where my dog was merely shaking and not showing any further signs of aggression, just fear. Sage frequents all places with children, dogs, and humans and has never shown aggression. She even has a dog walker who enters the house unannounced weekly with no issues. After the appointment I overheard the staff being entirely unprofessional and stating my dog is not safe to be around my child (I am currently pregnant) and I should be worried about her with my baby. I didn't know you could determine that without being an animal behaviorist and it only being a 5 minute clinical introduction. I also had an open balance I was unaware of, which I happily paid since finances are absolutely not an issue. I would rather pay all the money in the world for good treatment of my dog and myself which is my I will not be taking my dog back to this clinic. If you are looking for compassion, you should definitely consider different options along 620/in Austin. There are many that show much more professionalism and care towards all types of dogs and clients. read more

We have been taking our lover dog to Four Paws @ Four points for almost 3 years. What really surprises me is the fact that when I walk in, everyone knows who my dog is and greets him by name "Hi Elvis". Over the years, we have boarded Elvis at maybe 3 different places and each time when we return, he has separation anxiety. With Four Paws, it is noticeably less. We pay a bit extra for walks and belly rubs but the over all attention he receives is why he isn't so lonely. Quality care: We have had Elvis in for sedated teeth cleaning, lump removal and other out of the normal check ups and have had all of the work done on premise. As he has gotten older, we get more thorough blood work done. All of which we were happy with and felt were fairly priced. If you are looking for more than just a Vet for shots and take the health care of your furry family member seriously, I highly recommend Four Paw @ Four Points. read more

I'm going to keep this brief as I've effectively moved my pup and business elsewhere. In an effort to be objective: The Good: 1) Conveniently located up north. 2) Competent staff every time I've visited. 3) Always provided good service for basic check-ups and shots. The Bad: 1) GROSSLY overpriced for anything beyond basic check-up and shots as those services are outsourced (ie, ultrasounds are $350+ when only less than $80 at any other clinic with the ultrasound machine in house). And, if anything goes wrong with the outsourced service, you're pretty much left to your own devices and SOL. 2) Pets are taken away behind closed doors for anything other than basic check-up. There are vets in town who will let you be present with your pets with ultrasounds, cat-scans, and even let you watch them operate. 3) Follow the standard operating procedure with regards to referring you to more expensive experts even when it may not be completely necessary and maybe even detrimental given the wait involved (maybe they get some kick back for the referral?). NOTE: While I understand that as owners, we're not vets, and there is a ton of bad info out there. But, in this day and age, there are plenty of owners who have posted their experiences online, so please don't assume we're completely uninformed. read more

When we first moved to Austin we lived in the apartment complex right behind this place. Obviously, due to the extremely convenient location we took our dog and cat there for any issues/shots. About four years have passed and I live in a lot farther away now; near the Arboretum. I didn't even bother looking to switch vets. I drive the 10 miles out to Four Paws because they have always treated our pets with care and understanding. This is probably the best vet I have ever been to. It is rare you find a vet's office with all five stars and Four Paws is most deserving of it. I came to this vet for bad reasons, my precious angel was starting to lose her fight with kidney disease. I had to go to them two times (the second being that bad thing I can't actually write). The main receptionist is amazing. SO caring!! She was extremely compassionate and helpful every time I dealt with her. I saw two different vets, they were both caring and comforting. The second vet was my favorite- I am actually finding a hard time to find the right words to describe how understanding and patient she was with me and M. She didn't literally hold my hand, but it felt like she was in the way we discussed if this was the time, at that moment she felt more like a friend there for me than a stranger. I knew it was time and she made the decision- not easier but more peaceful. The whole staff made the whole horrible experience a little less painful. A few weeks after my M passed, I got a condolence card signed by the staff. What an unexpected, sweet step. The weird plus to this place: This vet office seems more like a mountain resort than a vet office, and I really liked that. It is warm, inviting and comfortable. You are saying, who cares- it is a vet office? But when you are dealing with a sick animal the atmosphere around you can be calming or anxiety producing and this was so calming. The only negatives, which I am chalking up to basic hectic business stuff and will forget about (but yelp is about the whole experience) were: twice they told me they would call me to follow-up and never did. And, there is one woman there that is kind of... um... gruff? I don't want to deal with her. I don't know what she is- vet tech, receptionist? But she is not friendly or accommodating. What I am saying is- if you deal with her- give this place another chance because the rest of it is great! My other cat and any future pets will absolutely be going here. Recently moved to Austin and think I found an awesome new vet and boarding facility on my first try. Yea! Over the years my rescue has turned me into one of those "dog people" I use to make fun of. Always been a animal lover and had dogs, but E is my baby. Having spewed my guts, I am VERY particular about who handles my dog. I had to take a trip a few weeks ago, so he was boarded for 4 days and had a few vaccines and an annual exam done during his stay. He's pretty use to being boarded occasionally but still comes home a little mopy headed for a day or two. Not this time. Came home just as he (and we) had never been gone! Also, the vet's report was SUPER thorough and it appears everything went well. Very clean facility and you can tell the staff really LOVE animals. They took great care of my boy and that will now be his home away from home when I'm forced to leave him behind. Thanks Four Paws!!! read more

One of the best experiences for a bad situation. I came here on a whim desperate for a second opinion and I found my new permanate Veterinarian. The offices are clean and comfortable. The staff here is welcoming, caring and really helpful. I had to put my cat down due to incurable sickness. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but the doctor was comforting and really helped guide me through the process. They had her ashes put in a beautiful box and have helped me honor her life in ways I wouldn't have thought of. It has really meant a lot to me to find a place that could care for my animal as well as I do. read more

We've been with Four Paws for the last 6 years. They've always been very sweet and caring towards our 2 Labs. Our puppers enjoy their trip to the vet and have never had any issues or anxiety about going. All the receptionists are wonderful and really care about animals. Lori is wonderful. She takes care of our dogs when we go out of town and they love her. Unfortunately we had to let our 15 year old Lab Casey go and all of the staff made the toughest moment of my life a bit less stressful. I don't know how they get through that procedure. But the Dr. really made the moment a peaceful as possible. They also recently introduced an online website to keep up with your pet. Nice feature. We've boarded with a few times and the experience was good. We typically leave them at home and have Lori come take care of them at home. In summary I can't speak highly enough about them. I have been bringing my Springer mix here for a couple of years, no complaints from me or my dog. The front desk staff are always pleasant, quick & helpful. Dr. Klepas is always on time & caring; another vet told me that my Dog needed some teeth removed but Dr. Klepas said 'naw' all she needs is a cleaning. That was 2 years ago. I should add that I drive miles (about one hour each way) to see Dr. Klepas as I fully trust her & her expertize. Cost is about average but inexpensive as no one has ever tried to pad the bill w/unnecesary tests etc. Some vets just pile it on. I think if you try 4paws you will not regret it. read more

I echo everything that the other posters for Four Paws have said. We recently moved to Austin, and very soon after moving it appeared my dog was sick. This was the closest vet, so I took him there. This office is by appointment only. I didn't know that. I walked in, and they were able to see me. Although they do try to work walk-ins into their schedule, I got lucky as someone had canceled their morning appointment just as I walked in. The office itself is very nicely arranged. Very relaxing and inviting. With a very comfortable waiting room / examination rooms. I real nice touch, is that the examination rooms have a carpet on the examination table, so your pets don't have to sit / lay on a cold examination table. I had never seen that before. The staff are phenomenal. They are very caring. It turned out my dog was very sick, and would ultimately have to be be euthanized. In this, my experience was exactly like Jr. A's post of 1/4/12. I am a long time dog owner, so I know when you have to let them go. But Dr. Shroeder's paw-side manner made that decision much more bearable. One of the receptionists was moved to tears about my dog. That was very touching. And we also received the card, and also a little keepsake....a clay imprint of my dog's paw. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about my experiences there. Everyone there were very professional and caring. My next dog will be a patient there. They also do boarding, and my future pets will be boarded there as needed as well. read more

We've been taking our Shih Tzu here for a couple of years now - since he was just a few weeks old. When I first walk in, the front office staff is always friendly and conversational. The exams performed by the vet have seemed thorough and caring. She's been really sweet towards our dog and takes time to make sure to ask me lots of pretty detailed questions about what issues our dog may be experiencing so she can best determine the proper care. In addition to the regular services/checkups/shots, we've also used them for boarding several times for 4-5 day vacations and have been pleased with the care. Our dog is actually excited to see them and I take that as a pretty good sign. read more

We live in Dallas, but spend weekends at Lake Travis. Our dog came out on the losing end of a battle with a porcupine. We called Four Paws @ Four Points on the afternoon of July 3rd. We had no previous relationship with them. They immediately said to bring him in. They sedated him and removed all 12-15 quills from his mouth area. They were fantastic! They were able to do this in one hour on a holiday weekend. They are simply the best! We highly recommend Four Paws! read more

Been a customer since the day they opened. My pet needed them in an emergency. They could have done anything to help find an emergency clinic and did nothing!!! I had to find a clinic to treat my sick pet immediately on my own. NO HELP Thankfully AUSTIN Veterinary Emergency and Specialty was there for my pet.
