Had my first appointment there with my dog yesterday, just his annual shots and check up. I'll start by saying my dog is difficult, to put it mildly, so I was pretty much dreading bringing him in. He's extremely fearful, leash reactive to other dogs, and doesn't like to be handled, though he loves people. In fact, at his last annual visit at another vet, they gave up halfway through. I had warned them beforehand of all this, so we were able to call when we arrived, and they got a room ready for us and told us the coast was clear to bring him in. The women at reception were so nice and friendly. The vet tech came in with toys to calm my boy down and she was so sweet and gentle with him, and she played with him while we chatted about the visit. He fell in love with her after five minutes, and was sad every time she had to leave the room. The vet came in and we determined quickly that trying to get his medical stuff done with me holding him wasn't going to work, so they took him to the back to let the pros handle it. They got everything done really quickly, even with my dog screaming the entire time (even when they weren't doing anything. Yes, he's a drama queen). What I thought was REALLY great is the two vet techs that had worked in back with him came back to the exam room and got on the floor to "make peace" with him, and let him know they were his friends. So nice of them to take the time to do that, and my dog left the "scary" vet's office happy and in good spirits. This place has good people, I highly recommend them.

Romeo has had very irritated ears since he was a puppy and this clinic was such an amazing first experience for him. The staff was non judgmental, very educational, + very time efficient. They leave Romeo smiling and feeling better with plenty of treats within an hour! Much love to Evan and Dr.Geigal

23 July 19 I'm new to Austin and just called Windsor Park Vet to book an appointment. I spoke to the receptionist who explained to me that the doctor visit is a minimum of $50 with a $25 deposit required when the appointment is booked. She explained to me that due to frequent no-shows, this is their business practice. I told her this is an unusual practice and I have never paid up front for future services or asked for monies before services that my business provides. Over the years I've heard many stories about people pre-paying for services and then never seeing them again. No one should be required to pay for goods or services upfront. This vet is the closest to our home and I would prefer to use it. I did just find another vet 4 miles away. They seem to have standard business practices. No deposit required.

We first took out lil guy to a clinic, the only clinic open on a Sunday. We got some X-rays done and some blood work done, apparently our little man had "blockage" and aside from the $350 we spent on labs he needed a $2000 surgery to explore his insides. At the time we only had maybe $1500 (we had just moved in to this area w/depleted savings) and of course the vet wasn't taking any type of payments. We decided to look around for someone to help us maybe finance the surgery and we found this location. They ran some more tests and some other labs here, they had waaaay more equipment than the other vet so the tests were more thorough. Turns out my man didn't have blockage after all, but a heart murmur, the doc then sent the labs to a specialist cardiologist who confirmed my baby's heart murmur. I broke down and cried because if my baby would have had the "experimental" surgery he would have DIED! His heart was very weak and we almost lost him for a second. The doctor still follows up with us, though their customer service is enough for us to never look elsewhere, their professionalism and knowledge take the prize. We are thankful to have found this place.

My usual vet, who we have been seeing since adopting the cat almost 2 years ago, rudely dismissed my concerns over the phone and insisted that I needed to pay an $80 office visit fee just to get an answer to my question over the phone (the question was "What does the PCR panel test for?"). I started calling every other vet in Austin to find a clinic that has experience with Tritrichomonas and that I felt comfortable with. Several clinics admitted that they did not know what the parasite was or had never treated it before. Another lied and said "oh, that is super easy to treat and really common and straightforward!" which I knew was not accurate from the empirical literature online. I finally found Austin Urban Vet and the experience we have had so far has genuinely been night and day different from pervious clinics. From the very first call, the AUV team was empathetic to our situation, VERY transparent about pricing (they provided it in writing), and explicitly clear about which PCR diagnostic panel they use at AUV and exactly what it tests for. They were open and honest about their experience with Tritrichomonas and I immediately felt at ease and confident in the care that they could provide my cat. After chatting with my partner about my findings from calling almost every vet in Austin, we both agreed Austin Urban Vet was the best one to move forward with, so we made an appointment. Right off the bat, I was happy to find that AUV has a private parking lot (for free!). I headed inside with my cat and the team at the front desk was so kind and helpful. They quickly checked me in and invited me to grab a bottle of water or make myself a cup of coffee as I waited for the tech to take us into the room. We waited for maybe ~5 minutes before the tech took us to the exam room, where she scanned my cat for her microchip, weighed her, and asked questions about the presenting problem, history, etc. Dr. Helen was who attended us for the exam itself, and she was so kind and thorough. I really felt that she was providing genuine feedback, and she was honest about her experience with this parasite. She was transparent about the treatment plan and let me know her general thoughts (Ie., "If she is still positive, we will do X. If she is negative, we can try Y.") We are now waiting for the PCR results, but so far, I am so happy with our experience and feel confident that Dr. Helen will provide us with the best care possible.
