We were referred to Dr. Weinstein when we discovered a large mass in our dog's (Lola) stomach. Dr. Weinstein went above and beyond to answer any and all questions we had. He honestly has the best bed side manners I've ever seen in a doctor. He also looked for alternate ways of how we can tackle this mass. We ended up going the surgery route. Dr. Weinstein removed a very large benign mass (she was 4.5lbs lighter after the surgery). There were few complications but overall she did well and recovered like a champ. The staff at VCA Capital Area was AMAZING. I called and emailed them so many times (I was the annoying/paranoid parent) to check on Lola and they responded to us with updates every time. Unfortunately our story doesn't end there. During the surgery, we discovered a tumor on her adrenal gland. Dr. Weinstein recommended several tests that we could run to understand what it was. Unfortunately the adrenal gland tumor turned out to be malignant. Again, Dr. Weinstein was available to talk us through all our options and answer all the questions we had. This time we decided against surgery due to the risks associated with this surgery. We talked to Dr. Strottner about chemotherapy and Dr. Treuil about radiation. They were both amazing. Back story- We are from California and we were in Round Rock, TX to take care of my sister who is going through cancer treatment. We are heading home this week so we decided to do radiation with Dr. Treuil here. Dr. Treuil was thorough in explaining everything. He definitely put us at ease. Dr. Strottner spent so much time with us explaining everything about this type of cancer. We told her we have to go home since the treatment is about 6months. She referred us to a VCA in California where we can continue Lola's treatments. We were beyond blessed to have been referred to this clinic. Dr. Weinstein, Dr. Treuil, and & Dr. Strottner are AMAZING. The staff at VCA Capital Area was really sweet and extremely nice. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I can't thank you all enough for taking such good care of Lola.

    Miss Bella the dog.

I have to add Cassy, Nicole, and Ye Rang to this list of wonderful professionals and doggy lovers! They treat us with the utmost respect and always get back to us in a timely manner. As our dog has gone through the beginning of her chemo, we have tons of dog-parent questions that don't go unanswered! Seriously, love the attention to detail and personable nature of Cassy and Nicole when they help us handle our pup with her treatments (they are great listeners and pick up on every detail we give them), and Ye Rang is absolutely on top of every call, text, and running the right people down for our 1000's of questions while also being super sweet and professional. I honestly have a lot more good things to say about these lovely folks... This VCA is packed full of amazing people and I could not be happier to have our Bella in their hands for her treatment and the start of this new leg of her journey

    Memorial

I wanted to take a moment to say that my experience here with the caring team at VCA was wonderful, and that was not an easy thing when you're dealing with cancer. My cat was fighting a nasal adenocarcinoma and it is a brutal type of cancer. She saw Dr. Treuil for SRT radiation therapy and was loved by his team and the office staff was so kind to us. She saw Dr. Strottner in oncology and she was thorough and patient with us so that we could find the best road for my girl based on where she was at that point. They helped give my girl another 8 and a half months on a cancer case that others said would have ended her life when we started. Had we found the tumor sooner it would have been an even longer period or it may have been shrunk to remission. When my girl passed away they sent us a memorial book with each member having signed it and talked about their experiences with her and their prayers for our family. It was one of the nicest things any clinic has ever done for one of my babies and for me. I really felt like my girl mattered to them and that meant the world to me. Thank you so much!

    Greta today

I am extremely pleased with the staff at VCA, especially Dr. Weinstein, who operated on my German Shepard, Greta. From the first consultation, he was always available , very honest with me and told me what his recommendations were. Greta had a tumor removed from her adrenal gland two days ago and was discharged from the hospital this morning. Thank you, thank you for taking care of her!

    A happy patient :)

I have never seen such a peaceful ending. There are not words big enough to communicate my gratitude. The end of her life was so sacred, which is more than most of us people get. My usual vet, who we have been seeing since adopting the cat almost 2 years ago, rudely dismissed my concerns over the phone and insisted that I needed to pay an $80 office visit fee just to get an answer to my question over the phone (the question was "What does the PCR panel test for?"). I started calling every other vet in Austin to find a clinic that has experience with Tritrichomonas and that I felt comfortable with. Several clinics admitted that they did not know what the parasite was or had never treated it before. Another lied and said "oh, that is super easy to treat and really common and straightforward!" which I knew was not accurate from the empirical literature online. I finally found Austin Urban Vet and the experience we have had so far has genuinely been night and day different from pervious clinics. From the very first call, the AUV team was empathetic to our situation, VERY transparent about pricing (they provided it in writing), and explicitly clear about which PCR diagnostic panel they use at AUV and exactly what it tests for. They were open and honest about their experience with Tritrichomonas and I immediately felt at ease and confident in the care that they could provide my cat. After chatting with my partner about my findings from calling almost every vet in Austin, we both agreed Austin Urban Vet was the best one to move forward with, so we made an appointment. Right off the bat, I was happy to find that AUV has a private parking lot (for free!). I headed inside with my cat and the team at the front desk was so kind and helpful. They quickly checked me in and invited me to grab a bottle of water or make myself a cup of coffee as I waited for the tech to take us into the room. We waited for maybe ~5 minutes before the tech took us to the exam room, where she scanned my cat for her microchip, weighed her, and asked questions about the presenting problem, history, etc. Dr. Helen was who attended us for the exam itself, and she was so kind and thorough. I really felt that she was providing genuine feedback, and she was honest about her experience with this parasite. She was transparent about the treatment plan and let me know her general thoughts (Ie., "If she is still positive, we will do X. If she is negative, we can try Y.") We are now waiting for the PCR results, but so far, I am so happy with our experience and feel confident that Dr. Helen will provide us with the best care possible.

SOUTH PARK ANIMAL HOSPITAL is now owned by a VENTURE CAPITAL FIRM called National Veterinary Associates, which in turn is owned by JAB Holding company, JAB has tripled in size since it started buying up vets and charging confiscatory prices, taking advantage of our love of our pets. BUT they started burying me in pitch emails too, trying to feed fear about my cat's health, constantly trawling me for more money, more money, more money, all while pretending to care about my cat when they don't.
