Let me start by saying this is not your typical vet office, in the very best of ways. We have brought our menagerie of pets to Dr. Bob and his team for several years and have NEVER left there feeling like we didn't receive absolutely stellar service, whether it was routine shots, injury, illness, helping navigate the Rainbow Bridge, or even an emergency C-section for one of our dogs. Maybe it's because everyone in the office is always friendly and helpful. Maybe it's because my animals are always treated like they matter as much to the vet team as they do to me. Or, maybe Dr. Bob is really Dr. Dolittle in disguise. Whatever it is, we love it, and will continue taking our pets to Dr. Bob until he retires. And then, we will cry and beg him not to. read more

Long story short, Best Vet missed a massive liver cancer with metastasis to the lungs, misdiagnosing it as a tick-borne illness and possible autoimmune disease, while simultaneously disregarding our concerns. Our dog now only has a few days to live. She has been seen by this clinic for several years so this was not a "one off" problem-based visit. Our dog came home from a boarder with a lethargic, weak disposition. We took her to Best Vet and she was placed on a heroic dose of prednisone 120mg (our second opinion vet had never seen a dog prescribed this high a dose, for 55lb dog) and doxycycline, with lab work showing massive thrombocytopenia and hypertriglyceridemia (concerning for liver problems). We called Best Vet a few days later expressing concern that she had not improved with increased work of breathing and weakness. We were disregarded and told we could bring her in "if we wanted," and "if she was worth $5,000 to us." We sought a second opinion, upon which they did an abdominal ultrasound and found an enormous liver cancer and abdominal fluid accumulation, followed by a chest x-ray that identified further pulmonary metastasis with effusion. We were given a terminal diagnosis and recommended palliative euthanasia. Shame on Best Vet for their negligence and lack of due diligence. When I called informing them of this unfortunate situation, I was not even afforded an apology or condolences. I would strongly encourage anyone to seek another vet. read more

From Dr Bob (who doesn't try to upsell you and gives you all options on the table so you can make the best decision) to the wonderful staff, I would never go anywhere else. I've read others complaining about wait times but I have always felt they let you know if they are running behind and will let you wait in your vehicle until they have a room open. They do their best and I appreciate their efforts to squeeze me in if my pets need an exam urgently. We recent had our dog pass away and their compassion through that entire process cannot be expressed in words adequately. They are all simply amazing! They are also not nearly as expensive as other vets in Austin. They truly are 'the best vet.' read more

Our dog Daisy ran away. The person who found her took her to Best Vet on Anderson Mill. She was well taken care of at Best Vet When she got to the vet she had a fever of 108 so they gave her an IV and gave her some emergency meds to get her back to normal temp. We will be switching from our current Vet to Best Vet. They have an awesome team of people working at the facility. What a great place!!! I am new to Austin and was looking for a Vet for my new fur baby and have found a place that we feel at home. I called and spoke with Red she was so nice and helpful and got me in the same day. I arrived and called letting them know I was here and they asked if I would like curbside or wait for a open room. I chose to wait for a room and the place is small but so homey and comfortable feeling like the old school Vets I've always had. Once in the room Sam the Vet Tech was awesome, nice and caring. Then I met with the Doctor and total old school, down to earth he was great he said I'm Bob wow he didn't introduce himself as Dr. So n So just simply Bob. The check out with Tera was smooth and again super nice, down to earth (she even reminded me of a friend back home for me another sign I chose the right place). My boy hulk hurt himself and I was freaking out, overthinking as many of us would. Dr. Bob called and explained what was happening and what our options were. He was so kind it was unreal. He did not jump to the most expensive treatment options. He gave us 2 different options with one being a cortisone shot and seeing how he does after. We first brought a dog to Dr Bob (old office on other side of Anderson Mill) at a shelter's recommendation over 15 yrs ago when we rescued a shih tzu dog in very bad shape, matted hair, ribs showing & needing attention. Dr Bob pulled a couple of rotten teeth, neutered him for a reasonable price & told me he might be ok without pain meds (always an option) & he was! He became my trusted vet who diagnosed our adult cocker spaniel correctly with (sudden onset) thyroid problems affecting her skin when a reputable neighborhood pricy vet had been telling us "allergies" & giving us shampoos & creams that helped NOTHING for months! We moved away for years & tried other vets, but ended up driving back to Dr Bob. He's intuitive, respectful of my concerns about over-vaccination of small pets (huge, repeated standard size large dosages) and very knowledgeable. Our shih tzu pushed through a wire fence & injured his eye very badly at about age 12 & we asked Dr Bob for options & he gave us plans to try to save the eye through a worst-case estimate if we had to remove the eye, no rush. We were able to save the eye and were grateful to have the whole picture, just in case. We are thinking of a new rescue pet (that shih tzu passed 3 years ago at 16+ years) and hoping to go to Dr. Bob. Honestly, I don't trust any other vet - read his philosophy. We've been going here for almost a decade. Prices are fantastic, pets are healthy, staff is quick to accommodate your random requests that would otherwise reduce their income (aligning all of the vaccinations on one visit a year, etc.). Calling them to schedule can be a little challenging- lots of hold times as they're juggling arrival calls with scheduling calls, instead of having a separate line for those. She stated that they didn't want our business and hung up on me, just as they did to my wife. We are contacting our bank because we were not given what we were suppose to. Our dog had surgery, and was released back to us after being injected with an opium cocktail. He could not walk or stand. He urinated on himself several times, could not sleep and was confused. When my husband returned home with our dog, I asked him how he got the dog in the car, "they carried him". We carried him up three flights of stairs to our apartment and for 8 hours our dog was obliterated. Several weeks later, his stitches were removed and in the office, he was playing with another dog and his wound popped open leaving a giant hole in his neck. My husband had to bring him back an hour later after he told him the "hole would close and heal eventually and that's just what dogs do". Today was the last straw. We made a 10:30 appointment, the vet came out to the waiting room and discussed with us the same ear problem our dog has had since his surgery, all of his theories so far have not fixed or healed the problem. He asked what surgery he had performed as if we hadn't just shelled out over $500 dollars and seen him less than two weeks ago! He did not even look in the dog's ear. He said he would prescribe something else and we didn't even need to see him. A vet tech would give his first dose and that would be it. 35 minutes later, after no one said a word to us regarding anything, I asked the receptionist if she could find out what was going on. She came back with the vet who told us that he would solve the problem by "firing us" as if we were lovers and he wanted to get the last word in. This vet is a cheaper way to go, but to make money he is doing as many surgeries as possible and every day. It is a factory for cheap surgery. There is no follow up, no actual tender caring, and the place seems to be run by a space cadet who needs to come back down to reality and realize that the patient is always first. I have never had a vet return a pet to me that could not stand on its own! Please do not use this vet. read more

The clinic's exterior may not be much to look at, but after (over)paying at another vet to figure out what was wrong with my cat over the course of several weeks and many vet visits, Dr. Bob identified that my poor kitty was suffering from none other than allergies. Who knew cats could be allergic to their environment, just like humans? (Well, I certainly didn't.) And compared to the other vet, the fees here were fair and affordable, so my cheapest vet visit was also the most successful because by the next day, my sweet little boy perked right up and became his old self again, thanks to Best Vet. Not only was Dr Bob knowledgeable, he took his time explaining the diagnosis in detail and his staff was just as wonderful. Knowing that I was desperate for a second opinion after too many vet visits that didn't really help my cat, the person who answered the phone tried to fit me in that same day. When I was there, the vet tech was personable and took time to understand my cat's medical history and current condition, and after the visit, I received a call from the office to inquire about my cat's progress. Don't judge a book by its cover! This place may be nestled in between a couple of businesses in a small strip center, but this is seriously the best vet I've taken my dog too! My 9 yr old chow mix was diagnosed with a pyometra on a Friday night at an emergency vet (unfortunately best vet is closed on the weekend) and they quoted me $3,000-$4,000 for the surgery. I didn't have that kind of money just sitting around so I kept her there overnight ($560) and took her to another vet who agreed to do the surgery for ~$1700. Long story short her blood platelets were too low to perform the surgery that day so I kept her there overnight ($1300) to try and get her counts up. Monday morning Best Vet called me, without me reaching out to them, and agreed to do the surgery for less than $500. It was a risky surgery since her blood platelets were still low but Dr. Bob was completely honest and upfront about her risks, cost, and his opinion about moving forward. I checked her out and scheduled surgery for that week. She has made a full recovery and is doing better than ever. I will forever be grateful to the doctors and staff at best vet for saving my fur baby!! Highly, highly recommend this place for an honest and knowledgeable staff! read more

Dr. Theresa was able to work my little lab/pointer mix, Zeus with an eye injury on very short notice. We showed up for our appointment and were in and out in less than 30 minutes. (I wish I would have gotten the assistant's name as well, she was great) They (the entirety of the staff) were very gentle with Zeus and made sure to keep him comfortable during the exam. I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Bob and his team! We began coming here two years ago with our first dog, and were immediately impressed by the incredibly low prices and friendly staff. What brings me to write this review though is our second dog, Riggins (who is only four months old), who became incredibly ill out of nowhere while we were out of town. I won't go into all of the details since there have been many ups and downs, but in the last two weeks we have been in and out of the Best Vet office multiple times and felt nothing but extreme care and investment toward our pup. Dr. Bob is always extremely conscientious of not doing any unnecessary procedures, and was actually very hesitant about doing a potentially unnecessary surgery with our puppy. He even consulted with his wife (gotta love a man who listens to his wife), and when she had a different opinion on possible diagnosis, he explained our options and what he thought was the most reasonable from both a medical and financial standpoint. He told us we could do a follow up x-ray but didn't want us to have to pay for their curiosity, so we waited on it. At our next visit two days later, Dr. Theresa insisted on getting that follow up x-ray free of charge, just to be absolutely sure of their diagnosis. If that doesn't tell you how much they 1.) care about your pet, and 2.) care about not scamming you out of your money, I don't know what does. The whole team has been super friendly and attentive to our questions. There was one morning where we brought our puppy in thinking he needed emergency surgery, and Dr. Bob spent the majority of his first hour in the office just talking with us and going over test results, etc. You can't find human care this good! Dr. Bob has called us back with multiple follow ups, and when we were initially out of town he was communicative and followed up with us, as well as our friends who were watching our dog. Again, I can't say enough just how attentive and caring this team is. We are so impressed with everyone who helped us, and we will be lifelong patients here because of this experience! read more

WORST VET EXPERIENCE EVER! First off, the tech was, best case, trying to upsell vaccines that aren't needed for 6 months. Worst case, she wasn't smart enough to read fairly simple medical records. Then, after 5 minutes, multiple pokes, and jamming a needle all around my poor dog to draw blood, I had enough and got us out of there. I wouldn't go there again, and I'd never let a friend take their pet there. At best, they would be great for interrogating terrorists at a CIA Black-Site. read more

AFTER SEVERAL YEARS HERE WE ARE LEAVING: The staff here is fabulous and they all show how much they care about peoples pets the male doctor I feel brushed me off. My cat had an odd bump on the back of his head. I brought him in a second time because it had grown and the doctor reluctantly biopsied it. They let me know iT was benign and didnt have to be removed. Several weeks later I scheduled for a follow up because it had grown significantly and was crusty and oozing. The doctor seemed annoyed and frustrated that I was back and said it doesnt need to come off but if I want it to come off then I could spend the money and sedate him. Long story short I took him to the Cat Hospital on Pond Springs and got their opinion. He ended up having it removed because the oozing caught an infection and showed me he had two cavities. Turns out the lesion was a dialated pore and true it was benign but was causing him pain because it was ruptured. I dont think this is a bad place for routine care unless something comes up. I believe they will never over charge you and are very fair in most of their assessments. Maybe I caught the doctor on a bad day or maybe he prefers to treat pets other than cats. read more
