Emancipate is the best place to take your cat or dog to get neutered they're nice and friendly and fast

Its rare that I write reviews but... I've been taking my dog here since we first adopted him.. we've usually had very good experiences here as the veterinarians are so calming, insightful, and really care about the animals being seen. As well as ~most~ techs/assistants being very helpful.....I am not sure what is going on but one of the front desk lady's at check in was rude (just saw she has many complaints on here lol) when I visited yesterday, she gave multiple people attitude for no reason, I understand what its like to work in a busy and stressful environment and the way she handled it was not it that definitely doesn't feel good for anyone that already has things going on with their dog/cat .. aside from that I was helped by a young man that at first seemed good until when he seemed like he knew what my pup had right off the bat and did Not steer away from his opinion. I didn't even really want him in the room anymore because it was very odd that he didn't want to ask any more basic questions or even take a look at the pup until the vet came in, it gave unprofessional. the veterinarian on the other hand was amazing , definitely a full 180. then it came to a nail trim.. I also requested this for the pup bc his nails were definitely out grown and it was time. instead of taking a look at the pups nails he immediately states "his nails are fine. do you see that pink? yeah I cant cut that." ( the nail is far from it, but he seemed new and my pups nails are black so I let it go) I asked if he could clip the ones he could and he brought in another tech and they went as fast as they could... only went ahead to clip the declaws and left. this may have been a rare occurrence but if my pup wasn't seen with basic care from techs and the the vibe wasn't welcoming... well I will not be returning to this location anymore. read more

Supposedly it's walk ins during hours of operation (according to the voice recording when you call their phone number). Went today and they turned me away because walkin hours were over. The website and the phone number did not say anything about walkins being over at 12. They should have it somewhere online and in the voice recording so they don't inconvenience people by not providing service. I went all the way from liberty hill for nothing. read more

This review is long overdue (February 2021). I took my beloved dog here for heartworm treatment after my local vet informed me of his diagnosis (December 2020). A lapse in preventative care during his time in foster care (two separate homes) was the culprit as I had immediately put him on monthly HW care upon adoption. Anyhow, my local vet was understanding in the need for me to find affordable treatment options as her treatment plan rates were high. That said, a neighbor recommended Emancipet and I couldn't be happier with their service and cost. Needless to say, this location gets super busy, so patience is required. The staff here does a lot of good work for those who cannot afford private vet care. After the treatment plan was completed (prep + 2 injections) Emancipet provided me with a copy of my dog's medical records to pass along to my local vet. Overall, very pleased with my experience and highly recommended. read more

We went in for a Perineal Urethostomy surgery yesterday to save our cat, Lucius's, life. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and gave us peace of mind going into this procedure. It was a scary day but we had no doubts in our mind they could handle it. He is at home recovering with us now. For the value, it cannot be beat. It saved our budget and we received quality care. They also offer mobile clinics on the weekend with free spay/neutering for Austin residents. Check their website for mobile clinic locations as they do vary. Keep in mind that since it is a walk-in clinic, service is on a first come, first serve basis and wait times can be quite long especially on weekends. I recommend calling ahead of time to get an estimate of the current wait time. The employees are very friendly too. I like that once your name is added to the waitlist, they'll send you a link to the waitlist so you'll know where you're at in the queue. They offer great prices on vaccines, meds, and other non-emergency services. It's a great way to save on pet care and support a non-profit organization. read more

This is for the dental suite Emancipet. The Tech Johana was rude and unhelpful. We were waiting as other dogs has other tech doing intake. She walked by us and went to speak with the front desk. She started opening the doors behind the front desk angrily like she is looking for something! Then the front desk said they are sitting here! Infront of you. Then she heads towards us upset already! She didn't call the dog name or my name for us to know she was looking for us! While signing the forms, I asked her to repeat a word because she has avery thick accent and I couldn't understand what she was saying. She assumed attitude and rolled her eyes and sighed!! I asked if someone can call me if the dog teeth needed to be removed. And she said they don't tell what will be done to the dog. I said ok, we are here for dental cleaning, if they find something needed to be removed, we can schedule a second visit if needed. She said they will not tell me what needed to be done and they will just do it as they decide. I asked if she can leave a note to the vet to call me or a note that said no more than 2 teeth extracted if needed ( I had a bad experience with a vet removing 6 teeth from my late dog and wanted to make sure that I am informed), the Tech said No to leaving anote on his chart), and added I will let the manager come speak with you in 30 mins to hour, and she added ( go sit in your car, we will call you when we're ready! ) I waited over 45 minutes and then told the front desk I will be late for work, and asked if the technician can take the dog and the manager can speak with me over the phone. The front dog called her over the phone, she stormed out of the back and started yelling ( No I will not take him, you will need to wait for the manager to speak with him in person). She seemed very upset and I felt worries about the safety of my dog with a person as angry and vindictive like her. I told the front desk that I don't feel it's safe for my dog to be here, and I asked if he can still ask the manager to call me. I have taken my 4 pets to Emancipet for years and they were always great. I can't believe how they would allow this Tech to represent them that badly! It's malpractice to perform a procedure without consent and I felt I was pressured into providing consent for them to do whatever they want without even letting you know about it. read more

As much as Emancipet claims this location is "Central Austin", this is a very vague definition, as being in between Round Rock and Austin does not consider you Central Austin. Better to label this as Northeast Austin, as this was 30 mins away from me. This was my third FREE spay/neutered & microchipped pup and I am still happy with the results. Unlike 2019, you can no longer come to their mobile clinic for a first-come, first-serve spay/neuter appointment. Instead, you now have to pick up a voucher, call the clinic location of your choice, and schedule from there. If you're looking for the soonest availability, expect mid-August. Note: try requesting to be put on a wait list, as we were literally contacted that day and got an appointment the following week. Pre-blood work is not needed, as the day of your appointment, your pup will be admitted for bloodwork that morning. Once bloodwork is complete, you will be informed if your pup is cleared for surgery. If cleared, you'll return from 3-5 PM that same day to pick up your new woman/man. Note: if you cannot pick up your pup during that time frame, they will send your pup to the nearest shelter for overnight boarding... They say the third time is the charm, but somehow, not so much for us. Good news, our baby is doing well, is healthy, and recovering from her surgery beautifully. Bad news, when we arrived home, the microchip was sitting ON HER FUR.... not in her skin....?? I recently had my kitten spayed through Emancipet as it is the preferred vendor for the rescue I adopted her though (Austin Siamese Rescue.) It was an easy process, but I recommend booking well in advance because it was 2 months before we were able to be seen. I did not get to go inside the clinic itself as they are currently limiting access due to covid, so everything was handled outside. If you live in Austin, it seems like micro chipping is free, however Lucy is already chipped so that was not needed. I arrived for my appointment on a Saturday at 7:45 am and the check-in took approximately 45-50 minutes. I completed the paperwork while waiting in line and payment was handed through a voucher to the rescue so I didn't have anything out of pocket for the visit. The people assisting were very friendly and answered the few questions I had. My baby girl seemed completely fine when I picked her up around 3:00 pm and pick-up took about 30 minutes. We went home and I put her in her cone (not provided, previously had from another vet visit with my regular vet clinic) and surgery suit (ordered on Amazon) so she wouldn't mess with the sutures because she could still reach them with her cone - she's one determined kitty! At pick-up, I was sent home with aftercare instructions. It has now been 14 days and she's doing great! The surgery didn't impact her mood at all, even day of, and she's still my sweet cuddly baby. We had zero complications and the process was easy enough. I will say that because this is more of a budget clinic, the wait might be a bit longer, but I didn't feel any difference in the quality of care we received. She is healthy and I was happy with the procedure, as being fixed is very important for the health of female cats and can prevent future health concerns like certain types of cancer. The customer service lady (I noticed multiple people have already mentioned her in their reviews- i pulled the attached picture from another review) is the worst person I have ever encountered. Rude, uninformed, unprofessional. While I was one of the first people in line for my cat's spay, she assisted Spanish speakers who had just walked in (I had been waiting for an hour and half, on top of having booked by appointment 4 months in advance). I speak Spanish fluently, however I was overlooked many times and talked down to when I had questions about certain procedures. I was told my total would be free, however was faced with a $150 total once pickup came around. An incident that I've noticed in many reviews on this page. I don't know how this girl still works there and when it was clear she wasn't on the same page as me or had the patience to speak with me, I asked for her to bring back a manager I could talk to and it was literally her own sister. Once it was time to pick up my cat, she was shaved too close to her skin and was bleeding and she had random bruises all over her body. She also brought back home a flea infestation, despite only being there for 6 hours and being an indoor cat. This place is unsafe and unjust and I will literally band together with other bad reviewers to try and get this woman fired. I have beef with her (and this sh*t hole of a "vet clinic") and she deserves to be fired 10000%. So f***ing rude, never in my life have I been talked to that way. read more

will never return to Emancipet after the events that occurred this week. My kitten was scheduled for a spay at 8 in the morning. I had to do the usual line up, and check in, and drop off. When speaking with the medical assistant/tech- the younger blonde girl with the glasses- I was told that the entire spay with extra assistance (microchip, cone, vaccines) would be entirely free. I confirmed multiple times with her and she reassured me that I would owe no money. Now, I use Emancipet because I am a girl in my twenties and I am just trying to be a good owner to my kitten (who chose me by getting stuck in the hood of my car at only 1 month old) and need an affordable care option. When I found out I didn't owe any money for her visit, I was very pleased and excited because this meant I could go grocery shopping and use the budget I planned on using for my kitten on myself and my family's groceries. I went to the store, prepared food for the kids, and returned to Emancipet around 2:30 to pick up my kitten after her surgery. I was then told I would owe $130 which came as a shock to me, because I was reassured multiple times by the girl I talked to in the morning that I didn't owe any money, and now at this time I had spent the money I would've used. I was very alarmed and caught in a panic as the extremely rude, heavy, young, Latina check in employee continuously talked down to me and kept telling me that I couldn't see my cat until I paid. I told her what had happened and that I was reassured multiple times I wouldn't owe any money and they just kept saying "if you want to see your cat again, you'll pay the total." They said that they couldn't account for what the previous girl I spoke with said and treated me as if I was crazy and they were holding my poor kitten, post surgery, for ransom money. I asked about payment plans, I mentioned they have my card on file and that I don't have the money, etc and they were very rude to me as I started crying in front of everyone. Being a single mom is hard enough on days like this. I had to leave because I was having a panic attack and had to call my bank to move around some money. Eventually I was able to pay, now indebted, just to get my kitten back. On top of this experience , when transporting my kitten Jinx in her carrier, both times the young, heavy, Latina employee held her carrier by the long strap instead of the secure short straps and banged my kitten in her carrier against the desk and the wall multiple times, so much so that other people in the waiting area exchanged glances of worry to me. It was very off putting and made me think that my kitten was not going to a safe environment. Oh and on top of all of that- my household kitten brought home FLEAS!!!!! My entire home is now infested with fleas. I will never recommend Emancipet to anybody. It is disgusting and unsafe. My poor babygirl kitten. You're all monsters. read more

I'm a new parent of stray kitten, I wanted to get him checked out right away since I wasn't sure what he had been through and I didn't yet have a regular vet. I asked them to check for a chip and to chip him if there was none, and they gave him his first round of shots and dewormer meds. Check in was easy, I don't think you can make an appointment, you have to queue up outside the office and then wait for your time to have your pet seen. The staff was all very friendly and professional. Covid safety was apparent. I'm probably going to go with a regular vet from now on but it was good having this resource available for a quick checkup and meds. read more

Staff were great, somewhat challenged by the amount of pet owners but handled it all very professionally. Reduced prices are a huge bonus. Annual shots (all 5) and annual meds under $100. I am extremely upset regarding my experience at this location with the receptionist or vet tech this morning. Even more so because I also called Emancipet as well as chatted online earlier this week to make sure that I could walk in for anal gland expression for my cat if needed. ***Please note the if needed. I'm also aware that this is not a full service clinic and I just wanted her examined to see if that was the issue before I took her to a full service clinic regarding any other issues. Yes, typically cats don't need this, however, I believed my cat did and I wanted the vet to examine her to be sure. Again, when I called earlier this week the lady I spoke with on the phone said it would be $9 for the exam and $10 for anal gland expression if needed. I also confirmed if this service was offered online via chat with Kim which I have a screenshot of as well. When I walked in I explained to the girl in the maroon shirt with dark hair(she did not have a name tag on) and explained why I was there. She then automatically states that cats don't normally have that and that they can't see her at all. I said I still would just like for the vet to examine her but she refused. I informed her that I called and chatted with two different people to make sure that this service was offered. She stated it was all probably behavioral and I needed to go to a full service location. How can she know that without my cat having an examination? I also wanted to buy flea medicine but in order to purchase flea medicine your pet has to be seen there but I was refused. So I drove all the way from Buda up to north Austin with my distressed cat to be denied by a receptionist/vet tech because of her opinion about my cat. This by far was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever been in. She had absolutely had no right to assume a diagnosis of my cat based upon my explanation of why I was there without any qualified professional actually examining my cat. read more

Everyone, please check big box store pharmacy for your dogs prescriptions. I was surprised they stock many brands of heartworm meds, flea/ticks, allergy meds like Aproquel at discount. Wow....Price of the heartworm meds more than doubled in a year. I found an alternative place to purchase the tri-heart, (From big box store pharmacy in Arbor Trail, NOT Online Store), however, emancipet would not write the prescription for me. They wanted me to purchase it directly from them. I honestly thought emancipet was a non profit helping animals as well as people like us to protect our pets at less than premium cost. I will not be getting vaccines/meds/ckup nor donate to emancipet. FYI: I found 12 months tri-heart for $33, that's $2.75 a monthly dosage. Emancipet was charging me $43 ish for 6 months supply which is about $7.00 a monthly dosage. The prices increased considerably more than doubled since they took over Animal Trustee of Austin. read more
