We love going to Dr. Spellman! As a first time dog owner, I learned a lot in each visit. He's kind and funny and knows his stuff. The prices are fair and our pup is well taken care of Edit: 3 years later and we are still going to Dr. Spellman for our little fur baby. He takes great care of her and gives great advice on how to take care of her. The staff there is extremely friendly and communicative too! Sometimes when life happens and I have to reschedule, they are extremely accommodating. My husband and I live in Houston now and we still make the trip to Austin to come see him for the half year check ups read more

North Lamar Veterinary Clinic - Veterinarians Near Me - Austin, Texas

I had such a wonderful experience at North Lamar Veterinary Clinic and can't recommend them enough. From the moment we walked in, Dr. Spellman himself greeted us and personally walked us back to the exam room, which immediately set the tone. He was incredibly kind, welcoming, and took the time to ask thoughtful questions. It was very clear how much he genuinely cares about the animals and the people who bring them in. The entire office has such a warm, personal feel. You can tell this is a place built on long-standing relationships. There are so many photos of the doctor with patients over the years, along with cards and notes from grateful pet parents, which really speaks volumes. Everyone on the staff was so sweet and attentive, and the office itself is charming and inviting. Overall, it was a truly positive experience, and I left feeling really grateful to have found such a caring and knowledgeable vet. read more

Everything. Great clinic. Great staff. The Dr. is wonderful. He is an old school animal Dr. ~ So VERY knowledgeable. Which is exactly what you want when it comes to our fur babies. We had taken our baby there, she had gotten an open wound under her eye?? Poor girl. Well this Dr. really help us,he figured out what the problem was and got her eye doing so much better. Also would like to add the secretary at the front desk is so kind~pleasant . We moved shortly after so unfortunately we had to find a new veterinarian. We also remember saving money by going to N. LAMAR CLINIC. WHICH IS ALSO A PLUS!! VETS ADD UP $$$$~ My family and i would definitely recommend~《 N. Lamar Veterinary Clinic.》 read more

Dr.Spellman knew exactly what he was talking about and we were in and out quickly and at a very affordable price. Our baby recently started getting allergy reactions so we decided to come to Dr.Spellman after reading so many great reviews. He was very nice and even joked around a bit, very sweet people in this office and not to mention the cute picture wall of all the doggies he has worked with over the years you can tell when someone loves what they do! read more

This is the worst place to take your pet. The doctor was rude, condescending, and dismissive. He would ask questions just to cut you off before you could answer. The only thing he actually listened to me answer fully was " What do you do for a living ?" as he writes me a $500 bill for 5 minutes of his time. I feel sorry for the techs and the front desk girl (who were all awesome btw) that have to deal with that awful man everyday. read more

Second time we've been in office with Kenny, on short notice, and offered same day or next day visit. Very no nonsense, straightforward and very much discussed financial options when it came to different treatments ect. I've been a dog and cat parent FOR DECADES, so this isn't a review posted in office, in my home and I am very knowledgeable. I've recommended to family and friends, and will continue returning. Thank you to the staff for being kind, gentle and very pleasant and approachable. Also, we moved and decided to not commute to our last vet, so this is why we're new here, I'm glad we did. read more

The moment I brought him here the Vet Knew what was going on & prescribed meds and by week 1 my dog was already much much better! I am blessed to have come across this clinic. The doctor was very patient with me due to my many questions and the pricing is great, budget friendly. I have even informed all of my loved ones with pets to bring them here. This has been my preferred vet since I moved to Austin two years ago and remained my vet even when I moved 20 minutes away. I've always found Dr Spellman to be very patient, knowledgeable and great with my dog. I think any pet owner would agree than vets are expensive, but I've found it to be more affordable than others I have used. It's pretty clear from the moment you enter that this vet is pretty old school and everything is still done on paper! My only wish is that they would become digital for more efficient recording of my pups medical records. read more

Dr. Spellman is the only veterinarian that I trust. And for good reason. He doesn't beat around the bush; he tells it like it is. A straight shooter, so to speak. He knows his stuff. I think he's been practicing for about 55 years or so, and it shows. The visits are quick, but thorough. Also, the pricing is extremely fair. He doesn't tell you it's necessary for all of this extra testing, unless he thinks it is necessary. He does not instill the fear of God into you about your animal dying if you don't do a, b and c, unlike other experiences that I have had with other DVMs. Also, his techs are amazing. I don't know their names, but one is a very sweet lady and the other, I believe Sergio, took such good care of my cat that she wasn't even breathing hard, like she usually is. My cats are very important to me and I take all 3 of them to Dr. Spellman. I'm so grateful for y'all and I found a vet for life. read more

I was at the vet three weeks ago for an annual check-up for my three year old dog. The doctor asked if I wanted a flu vaccine vaccination and was told it was 48 dollars. He said I needed to come back in three weeks for the 2nd shot. I went yesterday thinking that everything was already paid for when I went in three weeks ago. But surprisingly, I was charged again for an office visit, which was 65 dollars and another 48 dollars for the flu shot. Honestly, it was never explained, and the doctor made it sound like 48 dollars was all it takes for the shots. When I asked, two ladies in the front didn't bother to explain. They just kept saying that I had to pay. I went their for 2nd shot, and I don't think I have to pay the office visit fee or at least explain to me nicely. will never go back there again and wouldn't want my friends to go there. read more

North Lamar Veterinary Clinic - Bruno the Dachshund in some bluebonnets at Big Bend National Park, 2024 - Veterinarians Near Me - Austin, Texas

This starts off with my dog getting injured while playing fetch. He's always had a somewhat bum front leg and is getting older, but this time it was pretty bad. He was very reluctant to even get up after and had to be driven back home. My normal vet couldn't get me in for 2-3 days, which I found unacceptable for this scenario and they said visit an emergency vet instead. I called around and was more or less told the same thing. Then I called here. They said they could see him in like two hours, same day. I was treated with respect and the Vet was thorough in his work. Everything is explained and it's a definite old school vibe, which I like. It turns out my dog was ok and after a shot of strong pain meds and an Rx for some pain pills, he was back in business. We also ran bloodwork aa the Dr's recommendation. After getting back home he felt so much better he attempted to jump out of the car. Fast forward to a month and a half alter, I needed a refill and saw the Rx was significantly less online. After calling I spoke with Dr Spellman and it was agreed they could order me some different pills at a closer price to what the internet had to offer. I understand they have overhead here and don't order 100,000 pills a month, but at the same time I think one has to stay competitive with reality, and he did just that. I'll be back and a family member has also planned to switch to this vet. Thanks! read more

Trying to find a new vet I started researching places close to our home base and found Dr. Spellman. He was able to get us in quickly for a sick cat visit and my baby was back to his old self in a couple of days. I have been so happy with Dr. Spellman and the staff at North Lamar Veterinary Clinic. Our puppy ended up with us after his original family had to re-home him because their older family dog was extremely aggressive towards him. Because of the quick re-homing, Biscuit didn't come with any paperwork, so we immediately took him in to get his vaccines started. Dr. Spellman also found out that he had hookworm and treated him for that. Vaccines are now underway, and we've been in once for an emergency visit after Biscuit developed a belly rash and started vomiting. I have really appreciated that Dr. Spellman and the staff are so sweet to Biscuit, and that the pricing is both low and transparent. It has allowed me to budget for all of his vaccines, vitamins, and flea/heart worm medications. I have also never had to wait for my appointment time, even for same-day appointments. They are always ready for us when we get there! read more

Called and got a quote for around $335 for dental work for my older dog. I come in and the older Dr. begins to tell me that it's $500 and it's always the price and he doesn't know why I was quoted $335 on the phone. I talked to a nice receptionist and she confirmed that the pricing is what I was quoted over the phone and not $500. During the examination of my dog the doctor was very rude, never letting me speak, always cutting me off, never finish letting me ask questions, or not answering my questions whatsoever. Anytime I got a response I was in a snarky rude tone. I started to begin feeling uncomfortable, and at some doctor told me to go somewhere else. That is not how you treat customers... By the end of it I knew that I would never leave my dog alone with this guy, and I attempted to get a refund and will never be returning. read more

So thankful for Dr.Spellman and his staff. My 8mo old kitten had been vomiting for 3 days, and after calling about 5 other veterinarian offices, getting told they won't see him until the following week, I came across N Lamar Vet clinic. Dr.Spellman answered my call (it was about 10 til close) and he was so kind and reassuring. He slotted me in the next morning and even gave such helpful advice for if any additional symptoms occurred overnight. We've now had two visits with the doc and I'm so happy I found my sweet boy a vet that is straightforward, accommodating, and clearly loves what he does. Bonus - if you're a fan of dry humor, he has some great one-liners lol. THANK YOU DR.SPELLMAN and staff!!!! read more

If you're looking for low-cost vaccinations, this is not the place. He charges an office visit fee even if you're bringing your pet in two weeks later for their booster. If you have to bring two in at the same time, that's double the office visit fee which I believe is 65$. As a person that lives close by, the location is extremely convenient, but I'm always charged more than I did when I was able to take my dogs to a larger clinic off 2222. The doctor and staff are friendly enough, but I feel like I'm always overpaying. read more

ABSOLUTELY NOT! Had the worst experience here at North Lamar Veterinary Clinic. I will NEVER trust these people to take care of my animals. The old man was nothing but disrespectful in a time where I needed help with my animal. Any time I opened my mouth he interrupted me to say he can't do anything because I don't have a appointment. I understand people are busy and appointments are necessary during this time but there is a way to explain that to people that are only worried about their animals health. When something unexpected happens to your animal and all emergency centers and vets are closed all I was looking for is a little help and he DEFINITELY didn't provide that. I will never support this business again... and I suggest you find somewhere else to go in the future for your animals. read more

Dr. Spellman is direct and knowledgeable - his team runs the place like a well-oiled machine and are all very friendly and welcoming. At first, I would have given this doctor 5 stars -- I had just moved here and have a 7 year old dog. Wanted to get her on heart worm prevention and nails trimmed. I thought I had found my vet in my new area. He was quick, not expensive and nice. I will say I did find it weird that I always had to help the vet tech put my dog on the table (so for those reading, it's a VERY small, old school vet). BUT once I got a new puppy, my review went QUICKLY to a 1. I will never return. It was the worst bed side manner I've seen to this day and I've owned dogs my entire life. My puppy was in there for a check up and I had noticed the night before his breathing was kind of off, so made an appointment for the morning & went in. He is checking out the dog and immediately goes "he's a sick puppy. return him." -- uhm? I'm sorry, what? Then proceeds to tell me "He has pneumonia." Well, I asked "really?" (In a very concerned scared tone) and he boasts that he has been in the profession for 50+ years and knows it when he sees it...so immediately my heart SINKS. THEN he has the audacity to ask me how much I paid for the dog, tells me to return him again and get my money back. He charged me $72 and did absolutely NOTHING for me or my sick dog. There was NO testing done, btw. SO, I panic, go to a different vet in Georgetown where i know the breeder goes to -- come to find out (after testing) he did NOT have pneumonia. Honestly, I would have never written a review if his bedside manner wasn't so poor. I get people get diagnosis wrong at times but when you see a concerned owner of a 9 week old puppy and THAT is how you are handling the situation, that's just so unprofessional. I will never go back. read more
