Transferred to this Veterinarian Hospital as we had multiple recommendations! They are well priced, friendly and truly care about your fur babies. I appreciate they will offer you guide and recommendations but never push you into feeling like you need to do something. I absolutely love their animal pharmacy. My dogs meds gets shipped to us automatically and the prices are better than what I have found elsewhere! Highly recommend! read more

The team at Northwest holds a special spot in my heart. They are all so knowledgeable and loving to my dog Bleu and my previous dog, Letesha. I brought my 11 year old cat in here multiple times before he passed recently and every time I came in we were treated with kind and helpful staff. They answered all of my questions (I had a lot) and I never felt rushed to do anything. Sent me flowers when my Oreo had to be put down...all I can say is thank you. read more

Our last appointment with Dr Harrington was such a tremendous relief for our teacup poodle. He had infected anal glands and with Dr Harringtons care Cosmo is recovering quickly and happily. Thank you Dr Harrington and staff. We know our pets are in good hands! read more

My family has used this clinic for over 6 years. I myself took my puppy to this clinic when I was home from college. That being said, the new staff has cancelled on my mother and myself 3 times and when we rescheduled my mother was 9 minutes late to an appointment. The receptionist blatantly disrespected us as she did not know the phone was still connected, we asked for her name as we were both greeted with another cancellation request from the service. The vets themselves constantly cancel as I learned in December and days of service are scarce. My puppy was fixed at this place and I had to take him in again as his stitches were broken when I returned back to college almost 3 days later. I understand this may have not been the vets doing but Cassandra at reception showed no service. For such an expensive cost the clinic itself has lacked after the new vets were hired. This place has changed and my family has since found a new vet. Absolutely would not recommend this establishment in its new form. I've never heard someone be so blatantly rude over the phone and with the cancellation and policy reminders, this place does not have the same atmosphere I once remembered. read more

I'm somewhat change averse. I still have a Dallas cell phone number, still go to Dallas all the time to go out with friends, AND I was still driving my dog Oscar all the way back to Dallas every time he needed to go to the vet, but after 18 months, I finally broke down and tried a vet in Austin. And this place is great! The have extended hours on Monday and are open on Saturdays, so you can get appointments without taking off of work. Also see the website for info about discounts on vaccines. For around $240, Oscar got a very thorough physical including blood work and a bunch of vaccinations, and I was provided with a detailed report about his health. I thought that price seemed about the same as the vet in Dallas, so that was fine. Dr. Greg Buenger was friendly and made me and my dog feel very comfortable. Oscar didn't even seem to notice when they took his blood. I'll definitely continue to use this vet. read more

Northwest Veterinary Hospital - as you can see, my dog is awesome. NW Vet Hospital helps with that. - Veterinarians Near Me - Austin, Texas

Had multiple dogs over 15 years. Called today to have my older dog looked at. I made the mistake of saying he seemed to have labored breathing, and the want me to rush him immediately to an emergency vet with oxygen. No follow up questions for me, no details, just a don't bother us attitude. I said I wasn't sure my use of labored breathing was a clinical term, but to no avail. You'd think they might have an interest in seeing the dog or asking more questions, but no. Real bummer from a vet clinic we have relied on for years and dogs. read more

We came home to find one of our dogs had a random small gash on her back and needed to be seen right away. I called my normal vet (VCA) who said they were trying to finish up appointments for the day and couldn't see her that night or any time the following day, even just for a minute to let us know if it could just be cleaned and treated at home or if she needed sutures. We were around the corner from Northwest and called them 20 minutes before close. Not only did they offer to check her out immediately, but they had her in the system, shaved, sutured, medicated, and ready to go by closing time. I'm highly impressed and highly recommend this vet. And thank you to the staff who helped us out last minute! read more

I was worried when I saw that most of the reviews here are for dogs. But a friend recommended Northwest Vet and it's very conveniently located to my home so I made an appointment for my new cat, Kali. She's my first cat so I was a little nervous about the visit. However, everyone from the woman at the front desk, the vet tech, to the vet were very helpful and kind. The staff answered all my questions (as a first time pet owner, I had a lot) with patience and detailed answers. Everyone was so sweet to Kali. She's a very good cat in general but I was relieved that she was so comfortable the whole time. I appreciated the follow up call as well. I would highly recommend the Northwest Veterinary Hospital. read more

I've taken my dog here for four or so years, and I've definitely had a good experience with them every time! The office staff were always friendly and helpful. Both Dr. Harrington and Dr. Phillips saw my dog throughout his time of switching between being seemingly healthy, having random poop problems, and UTIs/urine crystals, but they both took my questions about various treatment plans, options, random worries, etc. in stride and without making me feel like I'm being a bother. I never felt like I was being pushed to pay for unnecessary procedures or medication. They have certain discounted vaccine days, which is always a plus. Everyone was personable, thorough on exams, and accommodating. I recently moved from the area so I can't take my dog there anymore, but I'd definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a new clinic! read more

I moved to Austin 10 years ago with four dogs, and this vet was the closest to my house. I can tell you now: if I moved to Round Rock, I'd still make the drive to this vet hospital! Dr. Phillips and Dr. Harrington are part-owners, and their level of attention and care is unsurpassed. They are always thorough in their evaluation of whichever pet I bring in, and they are patient, active and attentive listeners to me. They explain treatment options and make recommendations, and don't judge if finances prohibit any choices. Plus, they are just REALLY nice people. Their rotating "guest vets" I call them give great care too, especially Dr. Monger. I've developed great relationships with all, as well as the staff. It's very comforting to know that if one of my pets has a problem, great folks are close by to help, that genuinely care. read more

This is a review about a cat. If you have dogs, pay me no attention because this seems like a great place to bring your dog. Meatball is a very high strung little kitty. We just moved here from Seattle and her old vet said she had a tooth that looked like it should come out. So I followed some yelp reviews and a semi misleading ad for half price dental visits on certain days of the week. I was told I needed to come in for a preliminary meeting with the vet before he could yank Meatball's rotten fang. That seems pretty customary, just annoying. So I walked in and the place smelled like dog. I've been to several different vets before and they don't smell great, but this place smelled overpoweringly like dog. I just went through with it anyway and signed up for the dental visit 2 weeks later. When I arrived to drop off my poor furry friend for the day, I asked the receptionist, "she's not going to be placed in a room with dogs, right?" The receptionist was very vague and would not answer me straight. I called during the day to check up on her and asked, "she's not in a room with dogs, is she?" They sort of told me no. When I went to pick up my little buddy, I was brought into an exam room and the doctor explained the procedure and then said he was going to go get my cat. I waited for probably 10 minutes and he came back and said she was being pretty "feisty" (normal for Meatball) and maybe I would have better luck coaxing her out of the kennel. So he took me back into a room containing kennels with dogs in them and Meatball. I was not pleased. The quality of the care she received was fine, I was just not happy that my rescue kitty who is scared of everything, was in the company of dogs. read more

Disclaimer: My review is as a bystander and stand in for my girlfriend who takes her dog and kitties to this vet. Kind and compassionate come to mind when describing Dr. Robert Rhyne. Dr. Robert is one of those vets that re-assure the owner with the gentleness in his handling of the pet, providing ample time for questions, and his overall steadiness as a vet. He is a kind man. I accompanied my grifriend, who is currently dealing with a terminally ill dog, to his monthly check-in's with Dr. R. I am touched at the gentleness of this man and how he deals with both pet and owner. I also took in the resident geriatric kitty for a check up with Dr. R about a month ago. The kitty, a very frail and delicate thing, was engulfed by his hand and he seemed so attentive to her...and great care given to her little thin body. How a vet handles and interacts with my animals is equally important to the medical care given. I plan on taking my jumbo Maine Coon for a visit with Dr. R next month for her annual exam. I know we are both in good hands. read more

Our pup loves this place and they love him! Bo has gone through a lot (rescue with lots of health issues at the start) but they guided us through all of them with care and compassion. All of the doctors (and believe me we have seen all of them) take the time to explain the details of disease and treatment options until you feel comfortable making a decision on behalf of your non-verbal pal. They include in their explanations a discussion of costs in a way that is straightforward and non-judgmental. Also open Saturdays until 1, so bonus! read more

I recently had the kind of crisis every pet owner dreads--I was out of town for the holidays, someone else was checking in on my two cats, and one of them got really sick. My mom called me (on the day I was returning home--file that under the "small favors" category) to tell me that one of my cats seemed to be acting really lethargic, disoriented, and disinterested in eating. We got off the phone and called our respective vet clinics in two different areas of Austin. My vet (whom I'd only seen once before) told me they'd have to call me back in an hour to let me know if they could see my cat that day. My mom's vet clinic, Northwest Veterinary, told her to bring him in right then and they'd work him into the schedule. I was, of course, worried to death and called the clinic after about an hour to find out if they knew anything. The receptionist I spoke with was very friendly and went to check on my cat while I was on hold. He was still in with the vet, but she told me the vet would call me back as soon as they knew anything. Not 20 minutes later, Dr. Phillips called me and gave me an update, even though tests were still in progress. It turned out that my cat had developed diabetes in the 3 months since his last blood tests and had experienced a huge surge in his blood glucose level. Now, this is pretty upsetting and overwhelming news for any pet owner--and even more so when you're in the later stages of a 9-hour drive on 3 hours of sleep and worrying about the health of a pet you've had for close to a decade. Dr. Phillips was incredibly patient with my questions, never gave the impression that he was in a hurry to get off the phone, and explained everything in terms that made sense, even when my brain was functioning somewhere in the 10%-or-less range. My cat came home for the night, and Dr. Phillips called again in the morning to check on him. I brought him back into the clinic later that morning, expecting to see a vet tech for a quick once over and another round of fluids, and not only was the clinic very accommodating of my unscheduled follow-up visit, but Dr. Phillips came in to check on my cat personally and answer any additional questions I'd thought of since we spoke on the phone. I've just been incredibly impressed with this office and so very grateful for Dr. Phillips and his thorough, genuine care of my fat, geriatric (and now diabetic) baby. My mom had similar things to say about Dr. Zimmer's treatment of her cat (whom she brought in with an Upper Respiratory Infection a few weeks earlier), and I can certainly second her sentiments now. I'm sold on Northwest Veterinary. read more

I love Northwest Veterinary Hospital!! Before NVH, we took our pups to the VCA location on Greystone, but we got sick of being up sold on EVERYTHING. (No, for the last time, I do NOT want to change the dog's food to what you are promoting). By contrast, NVH does sell pet supplies, but does not make you feel like a terrible person if you choose to feed your dog something else. Everyone I have met has been patient, helpful, and they genuinely seem to love what they do. The staff goes over and beyond the call of duty just to make sure that your little ones are taken care of (like family)! We have also boarded both of our pups here several times. While they are obviously excited to be picked up, they are never scared to be dropped off. They love being there! read more

My husband and I were visiting family in Austin. Our dog hadn't been eating for the past week so we brought him in for a check-up. The staff at Northwest Vet Hospital did such an amazing job of taking care of our dog. They collected a thorough medical history and Dr. David Noel did an amazing job going over our dog's medical picture and outlining possible next steps. He was so supportive and clear when talking with us, and we really appreciated the consistent follow-up phone calls from the office after our dog's visit. I would highly highly recommend Northwest Vet Hospital and Dr. David Noel if you are looking for vet care for your pet! read more

THE BEST OF THE BEST! I cannot recommend Northwest Veterinary Hospital or Dr. Lisa Harrington enough. SHE ALONE DESERVES 10 STARS!!! We followed Dr. Harrington from South Austin to her new location...SHE IS THAT AMAZING! In an industry that can sometimes be convoluted due to the number of patients, they see a day, Dr. Harrington stands out amongst her peers. She truly cares about her patients, spends extra time when needed (you will never feel rushed!) and is an expert in her field. Dr. Harrington has been my trusted vet for years now. In 2013, I had to say goodbye to my first love, and best friend of 15 years. : ( I was devastated but I trusted that if there was anything else we could do she would have. Pets are family. And in my case, my pets are my babies. I would do anything for them and wholeheartedly trust Dr. Harrington as their veterinary for life. read more

As another reviewer said this Vet caters to Dogs. I took my cat to them to be checked for a skin condition. My cat can be a bit of a handful and is very grouchy when being touched by people she doesn't know. She immeadiately turns to hissing when she feels threatened. The vet tech was visbiliy scared of her and after one try gave up on getting her weight and any further vitals. When the vet came in concluded that we could do a lot of expensive tests to find a root cause or we could just give her prozac to calm her down and that might do the trick. Leaning more toward the drug resolution. I have choosen to get a second opinion. Update: The cat had a UTI and has since been treated. read more

I absolutely love Northwest Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Phillips has taken the best care of my puppy from day one. Before I adopted him there, they used their own money from a pet fund to perform a very expensive surgery and save his life. Later on, Dr. Phillips identified a very rare parasite that they had never seen before since opening the clinic. He took the time to investigate further, even though it looked like something else, quickly performed surgery and saved my dogs life again! They always explain everything very well and make sure that you understand exactly what's going on with your pet. I will forever be grateful for them. My dog gets so excited when we pull up to the vet, you'd think we were sitting outside the dog park. The staff is great, always very friendly and helpful. This will always be my vet, no matter where I live. Big Bodie and I cannot recommend them enough! read more

I can't say enough about this place. My doctor is Dr. Zimmer and he is amazing. I adopted my dog about 3 weeks ago and took him to Dr. Zimmer within the first week to have him micro-chipped, Neutered and receive his rabies shot since that is what the adoption place required. When I took him in, the receptionist convinced me to also test for heart worms and just do an all around test to ensure he is healthy. After the test, I found out my dog has heart worms. The doctor and staff worked with me to ensure that his treatment is affordable and I know exactly what is happening. Since the first visit, my dog started getting sick and had one issue after another due to the environment at the shelter. He got a few virus' which Dr. Zimmer and the Northwest Vet staff helped me through. Since this is my first dog, I treat him like a baby. Anytime something goes wrong I call the vet. The staff is understanding and answers all of my questions or gets the Doctor to call me back. Also, one thing any other vets I have been to (for my parents dogs and friends animals) have never done, is give me a call back 2-3 days after the doctors visit, just to see how my dog is doing. I love that Northwest Vet does that. It ensures me that my dog's behavior is normal (or not). Thank you Northwest Vet. I will never go anywhere else (as long as I am in the Austin area, of course) read more

Five stars to Dr. Phillips and the entire team at Northwest Veterinary Hospital! I originally found them on Yelp, and fellow-Yelpers, you are absolutely correct. I've had dogs and cats (and a vet) for the entire 20 years I've lived in Austin, and never have been so happy with a vet, to the point of recommending him to every pet owner I know. Recently, I had to put my beloved 16 year old Labrador to sleep. In the last six months of her life, Dr. Phillips successfully managed Orie's pain, adding those extra six months we could be together. Finally, when it was time, he graciously came to the house and performed the procedure, with her getting to "move on" while eating steak on the kitchen floor, in her own home, surrounded by her family. To top it off, about a week later I received a letter from Texas A&M in memory of Orie. Found out that Dr. Phillips had donated his euthanasia fee to the Veterinary School at A&M in her name. Wow... If you want a truly caring, professional, competent bunch of folks, give these guys a try! You won't be sorry, and the REAL benefit is, my animals like them, too! read more

We've been bringing our boxer-mix here since we adopted her about a year and a half ago. The staff has always been friendly and patient with our anxious dog. Prices are reasonable and I usually have little or no wait. read more

Attentive and thoughtful to get my pet's needs, while also considering my time. Affordable, especially on discount day. They seem to have good team work between vet tech and vet, as well as check in staff and check out staff. Our discharge papers had our dogs pics on them (so they "can recognize them".....wow!). They recorded their chip numbers and have their pics. Dr. Harrington was through in examining my 2 dogs, one of whom is 16 years old. There was ZERO UPSELL in procedures, test, or products. She even agreed that a dental cleaning was too much stress on my grandma dog (my other vet practically nagged me to give my dog these cleanings). This dog had gnarly teeth, but no infection and dental could kill her, as she's had a reaction to anesthesia. I appreciated Dr. Harrington for attending to my dogs needs. Finally, Dr. Harrington recognize that I'm immunosuppressed and changed my dogs live virus vaccination from traditional nasal spray to injection to keep me safe. That's good medicine. We're clients for life now. They get a 5 for the total experience. read more

We have a big, older, mixed-breed dog. The vet our family has seen for the past 25+ years retired and sold his practice, so we decided to look for a new veterinary practice closer to our current neighborhood. Dr. Phillips worked at our old vet's office for a while, and our dog adored him, so we were pleased to discover he'd purchased a practice relatively close to us. The office is in an older building that is welcoming and clean. The staff all seemed delighted to see our dog. He loved the attention and didn't seem nervous or unhappy. (Bailey is 11 years old and entering the "get off my lawn," set-in-his-ways stage of life, so we were happy and a bit surprised that he seemed to adapt so well to an unfamiliar place.) We were able to schedule an appointment outside of traditional business hours, and didn't have a long wait in the waiting room. Once we were taken to the exam room, we were both pleased that Bailey (a pretty big guy with aching, old-man-dog joints) didn't have to be lifted up onto an exam table. Instead, the vet tech and the vet examined Bailey on his level. Both Dr. Gardial and the vet tech spent a lot of time with us, discussing Bailey's overall health and our specific concerns. I tend to ask a lot of inane questions (that I should have probably just Googled), but Dr. Gardial was patient and thorough in addressing my concerns. He didn't assume that we wanted to explore only the most or least expensive treatments, which was nice. A couple of days after our appointment, Dr. Gardial himself called to make sure we didn't have any additional questions. Bailey seems to be responding really well to the treatment Dr. G recommended. The prices seemed very reasonable to us. I'm sure there are larger and (possibly) cheaper alternatives out there, but we really like the intimate, family-practice feel of this clinic. read more

I have nothing but love for the techs and doctors at Northwest, and after bring several family animals (cats and dogs) here over the year many years I have nothing but explicit trust for them. Most of my experience is with Dr Philips, an impossibly kind man and someone who is always excellent at explaining exactly what he's thinking and exactly what your options are. When my first cat had some vague symptoms, he was more than diligent in our search for the cause. When that turned out to be renal lymphoma, he truly helpful in arranging the best possible course of treatment and could not have been more satisfied by how it all worked out. read more

This veterinary hospital it was great both during my dogs life and especially at the end. They treat you and the dog is part of their family, and give you the information you need to make the decisions needed as you care for your pet. In particular Dr Phillips Was very kind and thoughtful as he helped care for my pet. I recommend them for your dog... And probably all pets. read more

The vets and staff at Northwest are the most caring and compassionate I have ever met, not just for pets, but also for owners, and that's really important in my opinion. The vets are up on all the latest treatments and they provide information on all options, but they are incredibly sensitive to family situations and don't judge your decisions. They are also incredibly kind. Both Dr. Phillips and Dr. Harrington have guided my family through very rough times as our elderly dogs grew more and more ill until we finally had to make a decision no owner wants to make. They worked hard to be comforting and sensitive at a time that is difficult. They even sent my family flowers afterward to acknowledge our grief. Northwest Veterinary Hospital is wonderful, and I whole heartedly recommend them for a lifetime of care for your pets. read more

First time visit with this vet and will definitely take my dogs back! Pros: 1. Excellent service from front desk to checkout. 2. Dr. Gardial was extremely informative about my dog's condition (ear infection) and in discussing options with me about her joint problem. Took his time. 3. He called me personally the next day to follow up and see how she's doing. That's a first in my lifetime! He said he'd call again in five days. 4. Four days later I get a letter in the mail from their office welcoming me to their practice, asking me to fill out a customer survey on their service, and enclosing a $10 gift certificate to be applied to a future visit. Nice concern for service! Cons: 1. Appointment was at 4:40pm and we didn't get out of there until 6pm. Maybe there's a "cascade" effect with appointments as the end of the day approaches, but there were also several times when someone would come in for 5 minutes and then leave us alone for 10-15. Maybe there's a way to tighten that up some. 2. Prices for exam and medications were about as expected, but an ear cytology exam (take a sample of ooze from dog's ear, put it on a slide, look at it under a microscope, and tell what kind of infection or infestation is going on) was $45 for a procedure that takes a couple of minutes. $25 seems reasonable, but I don't know what other vets charge. Overall a great outfit. As I said, will be bringing dogs here for future care. Really impressed with their hands-on service and followup! read more

I've been looking for a good Veterinary Dr. for my furry kids, and had the hardest time finding one. Until I came to NWVH. This practice is professional, efficient, and caring, and everyone always smiling. The Dr.'s are thorough, kind, caring... this is priceless! The Receptionists are fun and readily to help. The Kennel is very clean, and the pets are treated with nothing but much love and care. I appreciate Dr. Zimmer so much, he is awesome! My cat Frida broke a veterbrae and had a paralyzed tail that needed to be amputated. He was caring and concerned, took excellent care of my baby. I 100% recommend them. read more

I've had good experiences here. The vet actually called to check up on my animal after a procedure. I really appreciated that small town kind of attention. And when my cat was boarded, I could tell he got a lot of attention--everyone was sad to see him go and told me about things he did. They also keep things moving-I've never had to wait too long to get in a room or see a vet. And the vet i see is usally the same one. At my old place it was a rotating cast and that felt very impersonal. Only after a couple of visits, I felt like we had a relationship with this place where I never felt like that with the old one. Only one complaint--My dog gets ear infections a lot. My old vet would flush it and clean it and send me home with meds. This new vet doesn't do all that. They just tell you how to do it at home even though I would gladly pay them to just do it for me since i have two small kids and a dog that hates being messed with. Guess I should ask next time. read more

My experience yesterday after being a client for several years was as follows. However, before I post this, I do want to say Dr. Phillips is a really nice fella, a good vet and kindhearted. Now, as to his staff, well here goes.... My dog had become very sick during the night two nights ago. Throwing up brown vomit. I called their office at 8AM and left a thorough message and expressing my concern and to please call me back asap. I never received a call back. Waited till 10AM. Nothing. I finally dealt with it elsewhere as this was the final straw after a few years of very inconsistent and unprofessional communications with the staff. When my new clinic called to request both of my dog's records, they were sent one sheet of paper on my male dog and no records on my female who is 7 yrs old and who has been seen at this clinic for the past three years at least. Again, this is exactly why I sought out a more competent staff and great vet to take care of my dogs. When I called to find out who was responsible for monitoring the messages in the morning, I was told it was up to "the receptionist team". Yes. Not a single person in charge and responsible. A "team" so no one is accountable and perhaps the "team" doesn't know what the other members of the "team" have done or not done. I could not believe my ears. I did ask about this and Iwas put on hold for at least five minutes. Then told "we will aspire to call you about this within the next few days". Aspire? Few days? If I hadn't been so aggravated at that point I would have laughed. I did say that was not acceptable and I wanted a reason why no one in their office had called me back about my sick dog. I was then transferred to someone I had never heard of before. She was quite snooty and talked down to me, kept repeating my name over and over again every time I attempted to get an answer from her. When she knew she was not going to be able to stonewall me, she told me to never call their office again and hung up on me. All true. And I am sure poor Dr. Phillips has no idea all this nonsense was going on as it was his day off. I thought about writing him a letter but it's not my job to hire his staff nor monitor them. Surely he knows how he is being represented. Again, he is a nice fellow and good vet and I've had no issues with him. But his staff is immature and apparently don't know their left hand from their right. Also, my new vet clinic who was very responsive and mature in their conversation with me had to call this place TWICE to get my records. And, they were nice enough to call me back before the end of the day yesterday to advise me they had finally been sent ALL records on both dogs. So, everyone reading this, if you have a real need to see a vet and expect to get a call back or expect to be treated respectfully, you probably want to consider going elsewhere. read more

This place was great! I went two days after I got my first dog, so both of us were really nervous. The staff was incredibly friendly and reassuring, and they were really patient with my terrified dog. The vet seemed really knowledgeable and Ollie adored him, even after he tormented her with a needle sticks and nail cutting. And since she was so nervous, he didn't even make her get up on the exam table; he just sat on the ground next to her and worked with her there. I was surprised by how inexpensive it was, especially considering all the medicine we got and the tests we got done. Dr. Phillips even called the next day to follow up and make sure Ollie was ok and I didn't have any more questions. Overall an excellent experience! read more
