I was so stressed when trying to find a new vet after moving states. Found this clinic and the staff was very kind and understanding when it came to figuring out why my dog was sick. Dr. Rob was amazing and was super helpful. So grateful to have found a great place :)

Very affordable pricing! My cat's vet made them feel very safe. Would recommend for sure.

This is my new go-to clinic. Both times I have needed urgent care for my babies, they have scheduled me same day for an appointment and it's been easy. My first appointment was after another vet clinic (looking at you ZippiVet North) cancelled an urgent appointment less than 30 minutes (8:06 am and the appointment was for 8:30 am) before the appointment times over a TEXT. Nothing told me they didn't care about my pets more than the fact that they didn't even have the decency to call or try to reschedule. I was frantic and floundering because Xander was having serious breathing issues and I'd taken off the morning to take him to the appointment. Thankfully when I called this vet, they understood my concerns and got me in around 10:30 for the first available appointment. Xander was having an allergic reaction (and couldn't even meow as a result!) to something and they got him all taken care of quickly and in a way that made me feel they cared. Our next visit was when my little one's eye swelled up and I was concerned it would become worse if left untreated. Again, I called and got an appointment for the same day (3:00 pm this time). We showed up and we're immediately provided a room. She was tested, diagnosed, and promptly received antibiotics for her and a cone to prevent further agitating it. They provided clear instructions and demonstrated how to apply the medication to her eye. Both times, I have experienced friendly and competent vets who made me feel at ease with their knowledge, professionalism, and compassion for my kitties! I'm happy to visit again and know that we're in good hands, even though it's not Allstate. Cost wise, it's pretty average for Austin and I believe I've paid around $150 at both visits including all the tests, bloodwork, medications, etc.

Having three different dogs with their own set of issues can be costly! Fortunately, ATX Animal Clinic is one of the few animal clinics in Austin who accepts Care Credit. In addition, for those who are looking for a clinic that allows pet parents to accompany their fur babies, ATX Animal Clinic is offering in-clinic (traditional) or curb side drop off (how most clinics are running during covid). We've seen both Dr. Rob & Dr. Hardy, Dr. Rob is our go-to vet. Dr. Rob is incredibly knowledgable and doesn't try to sell you on something you don't need. We've asked for his advice and have received consultations on multiple occasions for our kids (ie: pink eye, gingivitis/teeth cleaning, diarrhea) and he's always given us exactly what we need. He demonstrates how to use medications, and takes the time to make sure all of your questions are answered. Prices are a bit costly compared to other vets we've been to. An initial examination costs $60, compared to the average $45. Follow-ups are $30/visit, while a rabies vaccination is almost $40, compared to the average $22. However, don't let that stop you, as once again, they offer Care Credit.

I wanted to update my review and thank ATX Animal Clinic for giving my pup the best care as we navigated her senior years. I brought my girl in due to a lump on her and unfortunately found that it posed a serious danger. As she had just turned 17, surgery was not an option so I made the difficult decision to make a follow-up appointment a few days later to put her down. During the appointment, Dr Rob and the staff were so compassionate and empathetic, explaining each step and giving us as much time as we needed. Afterwards they offered hugs and even sent a heartfelt card. They have been there through thick and thin throughout the years, but showing that extra kindness at the end meant the world. If you're looking for a clinic that truly cares for our pets, ATX Animal Clinic is the place I recommend. Thank you Dr.Rob!

Does it cost $250 to fire up the xray machine like most commercially owned vet practices nowadays, or is there a reasonable price for a simple scan?

Hi Daniel, this is Dr. Rob. The overall cost for radiographs depends on a few different factors, all of them affecting how we take and interpret them. Please give us a call at 512-338-4300, and we can discuss your case a little more.

My usual vet, who we have been seeing since adopting the cat almost 2 years ago, rudely dismissed my concerns over the phone and insisted that I needed to pay an $80 office visit fee just to get an answer to my question over the phone (the question was "What does the PCR panel test for?"). I started calling every other vet in Austin to find a clinic that has experience with Tritrichomonas and that I felt comfortable with. Several clinics admitted that they did not know what the parasite was or had never treated it before. Another lied and said "oh, that is super easy to treat and really common and straightforward!" which I knew was not accurate from the empirical literature online. I finally found Austin Urban Vet and the experience we have had so far has genuinely been night and day different from pervious clinics. From the very first call, the AUV team was empathetic to our situation, VERY transparent about pricing (they provided it in writing), and explicitly clear about which PCR diagnostic panel they use at AUV and exactly what it tests for. They were open and honest about their experience with Tritrichomonas and I immediately felt at ease and confident in the care that they could provide my cat. After chatting with my partner about my findings from calling almost every vet in Austin, we both agreed Austin Urban Vet was the best one to move forward with, so we made an appointment. Right off the bat, I was happy to find that AUV has a private parking lot (for free!). I headed inside with my cat and the team at the front desk was so kind and helpful. They quickly checked me in and invited me to grab a bottle of water or make myself a cup of coffee as I waited for the tech to take us into the room. We waited for maybe ~5 minutes before the tech took us to the exam room, where she scanned my cat for her microchip, weighed her, and asked questions about the presenting problem, history, etc. Dr. Helen was who attended us for the exam itself, and she was so kind and thorough. I really felt that she was providing genuine feedback, and she was honest about her experience with this parasite. She was transparent about the treatment plan and let me know her general thoughts (Ie., "If she is still positive, we will do X. If she is negative, we can try Y.") We are now waiting for the PCR results, but so far, I am so happy with our experience and feel confident that Dr. Helen will provide us with the best care possible.

During this appointment I wasn't seen by a doctor, just the tech, but was assured a doctor would review her bloodwork and contact me. They emailed me to say that "everything was within normal range." However, since I specifically wanted to see the results for this particular marker, I requested a copy of the bloodwork. To my surprise, when I reviewed the results, multiple markers were clearly concerning, even to my untrained eye. When I asked questions about these findings, they told me I'd need to schedule another follow-up appointment (with an additional visit fee) and bring her back in just to discuss the results. Why would I stress my cat out with another car ride/vet visit just to get answers about my previous appointment? This makes no sense. On top of that, it took them about a week to even call me back. During this time, I hired an online vet to review the bloodwork. To my shock, this vet confirmed that the results show early signs of kidney disease--the leading cause of death in cats--and stressed the importance of starting preventative measures immediately. In short, I can no longer recommend this clinic. All the good vets have left, and the quality of care provided could cause major health concerns to go missed. As other reviewers have mentioned, this place has home down hill and that has been very apparent, but until now I had just been too lazy to do the research and switch. Please find a better option! This clinic claims to be holistic and to have a natural approach, but that couldn't be further from the truth.
