My cat's vet, Dr. Dedhia, was able to diagnose him with outdoor allergies and they prescribed him something that has worked really well. My female cat has started experiencing kidney/urinary issues over the past year. A couple of weeks ago, I took her in for updated bloodwork since her previous vet (who has since left Paz) wanted to monitor a specific marker. The appointment cost around $200-$250. During this appointment I wasn't seen by a doctor, just the tech, but was assured a doctor would review her bloodwork and contact me. They emailed me to say that "everything was within normal range." However, since I specifically wanted to see the results for this particular marker, I requested a copy of the bloodwork. To my surprise, when I reviewed the results, multiple markers were clearly concerning, even to my untrained eye. When I asked questions about these findings, they told me I'd need to schedule another follow-up appointment (with an additional visit fee) and bring her back in just to discuss the results. Why would I stress my cat out with another car ride/vet visit just to get answers about my previous appointment? This makes no sense. On top of that, it took them about a week to even call me back. During this time, I hired an online vet to review the bloodwork. To my shock, this vet confirmed that the results show early signs of kidney disease--the leading cause of death in cats--and stressed the importance of starting preventative measures immediately. In short, I can no longer recommend this clinic. All the good vets have left, and the quality of care provided could cause major health concerns to go missed. As other reviewers have mentioned, this place has home down hill and that has been very apparent, but until now I had just been too lazy to do the research and switch. Please find a better option! This clinic claims to be holistic and to have a natural approach, but that couldn't be further from the truth. If you were present in the room during my visit you would know. Additionally, Dr. Rios misquoted the cost for the ultrasound, and her statement that it would take 2-3 weeks to schedule surgery with a non-emergency vet was also incorrect. I am a frequent flyer of PAZ East and love the techs & vets who work there! They spend time to get to know both my cats, ask lots of questions, offer little cat snacks, and create a very calm atmosphere. My cats are super shy, and I always appreciate the manner in which they handle both girls. They explain everything they do, and I never leave feeling confused. However, I moved south recently and decided to try the south location which is much closer to my new apartment. The appointment was not great, and I left feeling very disappointed. We were placed in a very noisy room with a window, and the appointment was only 10 minutes long. I felt like she was not handled with the same level of care as Paz East. It is worth it for me to drive all the way over to east rather than go to a closer location for a better overall experience. read more

Paz is a great vet that has been super convenient for my family. I have two dogs and while it can get quite expensive to have them both looked at the piece of mind is worth it. The tech and vets listen to our concerns and are always prepared for the conversation. We rescued a dog who is very nervous and she likes being with his dog brother as it makes her feel more confident. Paz South was super accommodating and let us do their appointment together. Our rescue had a weird looking thing in her eye but after the appointment the vet did additional research and confirmed with us that she wasn't concerned with it. I thought the after hours text was a nice touch that added to the experience. Not to mention, the adorably decorated rooms - which look like little dog apartments are so fun and my dogs love chilling on the couches during their appointments. They were friendly but NOT helpful at all. My cat had fleas and they prescribed her a medicine but didn't have any places to recommend to pick up. They said "call around" I wasted hours looking for places without any guidance. I also had my cat get an exam for the first time there, it was SUPER PRICEY and didn't even look under her tail to see if her anal glands looked healthy. I've never been to a vets office that had quite as many skylights, or had 20' ceilings which were exemplified by vaulted architecture, and glass that spans as far as you can see. Free (locally, sustainably sourced) cold brew coffee, gluten free treats (for you and your pup) as you walk in are niceties; but the more you think about it, the more you realize that you're paying to be placed in an artificial pod, built by the staggering bills dished out to folks just like you. I was informed by other Paz location that I could take my dog's feces in to be examined due to her excrement being a odd orange/red and brown divided mix. I knew for certain she did not eat anything red. She is always with me and there is absolutely nothing red in my home or in her meals. I've had her since she was 14 weeks. She never was a chewer of things anyway - in or outdoors. Since I was concerned it was caused internally, I wanted to consult with the vet I had been going to for 2 years, even though it didn't look like blood. Pet was acting fine. When I arrived they told me they could not examine her feces without her being present. The other location told me they could because I asked specifically if I can just bring the stool in to be examined without her. Paz South told me they could only test for parasites. I clarified it wasn't parasites that concern me, but the COLOR of her feces. THEN, after the receptionist left the room to check with other location about what I claimed they said, she returned saying Paz S. would make the exception this one time. I thought, how great that a vet company takes responsibility for keeping their promises! Got to love integrity! I left them with the sample to be tested, however, after they didn't call me back with test results on the day as promised, I called them and they promptly told me she doesn't have parasites. This I knew. This i clarified from the beginning. They threw the specimen away and so I never did find out what caused the red stool. It is pretty obvious looking at the stool as to why I was having it tested. And, they still charged me for something Clearly stated I did not want. I notified management and after back and forth calls and emails and the issue being pawned off to others, I finally received an email stating no refund will be issued because they had conducted a parasite test, AS I REQUESTED. Unbelievable. Well, they got to keep their measly $47 yet lost a client possibly many more over poor business practices. I hope they are happy! P.S. after visiting another vet, I found out that the red stool was caused by the red dye used in brown bacon dog treats my neighbor would occasionally treat her with. Who would have known?? Seems they would have been able to EYEBALL and diagnosis without even conducting a test!! I am sure they have seen this mystery before!! After all, it was orange/red and had zero consistency of blood. Any vet would know what it was. In fact, the vet I went to looked at a picture and knew exactly what it was. Sadly, the vet industry is all about playing on your emotional ties to your pet and grabbing as much money unethically as possible. Greedy business practices. Corporate business. They are all owned by corps. No independent owners any longer, even though it appears that way. Inside information. Just a heads up, guys! AMAZING PLACE & STAFF! I can't say enough about HOW HAPPY I was with our first visit! But here's the story..... Got a new rescue puppy who is very fearful of people. Needed to get him checked out. Worried about his fear & the fact I can't go in with him, the first vet I called was one I'd used before. Receptionist was non-commital about how they'd handle his fear so I tried a 2nd. Second vet receptionist said they'd probably "just hold him down". NOT THE RIGHT ANSWER... when I asked to speak with vet tech for specifics, she said I "wasn't a member so I couldn't speak to a staff member. " I let her know that, after this conversation, I'd NEVER be a member. (Office manager texted me after I did bad yelp! review & offered to figure out "who that was". Too little, to late. Thank GOODNESS my next call was to PAZ. The receptionist went OUT OF HER WAY to answer all my (MANY) questions & then talked to a VET for me! They booked extra time to take it slow with him. THEY ARE FEAR-FREE CERTIFIED! And it shows. Everyone from Mikey at front desk to Dr Webb were super gentle with him AND me! I previously would have given this place a 3-4 star review after having had them for a year, but because of the final experience I had with them I'm giving them a one. As a complete disclaimer, and to be completely clear, most of the Vet techs at Paz are great. We've actually never had a bad or even questionable experience when dealing directly with the Vet techs here. In addition, Dr. Kelly Might, who is a surgeon specialist and listed on their website, is also fantastic. I'm not certain if he actually works for Paz, as he has a mobile vet speciality clinic that moves. Also, this review solely relates to the Paz south location. In our occasional dealings with the east location, they've been fantastic. Unfortunately, the reception service at Paz South is absolutely terrible, and the veterinarians are hit or miss and seem to be more concerned often times with turnover then your dog. They generally feel disconnected and occasionally uninterested. Walking into the vet clinic, there are typically 4-5 hipsters mulling around and having discussions with each other at the desk while the one or two 'helpful' desk workers, as we call them, greet you. The vets here are generally hit or miss. I've found them to be mostly responsive, but really lack what I expect from a trained vet with 6 years of college training. With that being said, what just happened put the icing on the cake of bad service. We order Trifexis (flea/heartworm) medication from Chewy, that has to be approved by Paz. We ordered the medication from Chewy towards the beginning of the month, and had issues with Chewy calling our previous vet, etc. We're delayed. Chewy then went ahead and resubmitted the request for medication to Paz, and we received a response now, May 21st. Our dog is due for her medication exactly on June 1st. What does Paz do? They deny the request for medication because our dog hasn't been in for her yearly checkup, 10 days late, in the middle of a pandemic. The cherry on top of this is that we never even received a courtesy reminder, which is typical of a vet clinic, especially one with 4-5+ desk attendants who frequently can be found doing nothing other than asking if you'd like to serve yourself coffee. So the solution here, according to Paz, for a dog being late for their yearly checkup during a pandemic, is to withhold time sensitive medication that has to ship immediately. On calling Paz, the desk attendant was flat out rude. We were obviously annoyed, and the only solution was to physically come into the establishment at earliest NEXT WEEK (too late to order the medication from Chewy), for the appointment. As suggested by them, we could also buy the medication there at an extreme markup as most of their products are. This is absurd. We were at Paz nearly monthly for quite a while with both of our dogs. We were last at Paz in March. They specifically told us we don't need to be seen "until its time for vaccines". They have seen our dogs and seen us. There is no excuse for: 1. Not sending a reminder for yearly checkup 2. WITHHOLDING MEDICATION BECAUSE OF IT Obviously we're finding a new vet immediately. Stay away from the south location. As ok as the vets are, and great as the vet techs are, the front desk is ridiculous. Anyone running this business should have fired half of them months ago and had people with actual customer service experience in their place. Never seen a place with so many people dedicated to customer service with such horrible customer service, quite frankly. Paz is great if your core focus is feeling hip and drinking cold brew, but there are much better options out there otherwise. read more

I took my cat in for her regular grooming today (west Paz) (sedation) and paid over 550.00. I understand inflation but I have used Paz for 6 years and each time I say it is my last. Today was my last. I usually pay around 350.00 and was expecting that. I questioned the increase and was told that it was due to added vaccines that they administered. My cat had been throwing up in her cage and was covered in it. She had not been cleaned up or wiped off. I came home and called several surrounding vet clinics and none of them were close in price. I have used Paz for all 5 of my animals and am done. I am attaching pics of this 550.00 grooming job. It's terrible and needs to be corrected. I am so disappointed in what Paz has become. I recently got a quote to spay my newly adopted male kitten from Paz and I was told it would be around 1,000 depending on sedation. I went to amicipet and it was 80.00. One of the Vet Tech's cut my puppies nails way too short and made 4 of them bleed. I only noticed my dogs nails bleeding on the way home. Feeling pretty pissed off, I called reception to ask for answers. The receptionist spoke to the doctor on duty for me and their response was that it's "normal" for dogs nails to bleed when cut. However, there is nothing "normal" about having your puppies nails bleed after a trim. That is called malpractice by a Vet Tech who was in too much of a rush to do their job properly. If it were one bleeding nail, I would understand and put down to a mistake. However, four bleeding nails that have clearly been cut too short is simply a lack of care. UPDATE: Paz staff, you have the wrong dog that you replied to my original review with. I believe you are looking at someone else's file-- my dog is not Coda. My dog, LACEY, had her surgery in January of this year, so she was definitely NOT brought in, in April for this issue. I also have record of the appointments, and she first brought on with this issue in 2019. I used to love Paz, and moving to a new city, I was glad to find a vet I liked. My dog had been experiencing a limp since around Thanksgiving 2019, I took her to Paz and asked for an x-ray as I had thought she tore her ACL but they assured me it was nothing and an x-ray was not necessary. Not being a vet myself, I trusted their opinion, however, the limping failed to cease. Through the course of a year, and after numerous visits to Paz, the staff still refused to x-ray my dog's leg. The final visit, I insisted as the limping had now been going on consistently for a year, and not for the nothing, but it was getting pretty ridiculous that I had to continue to pay for visits for the same issue that was not getting resolved. Well, flash forward to the x-ray, my suspicions were correct and my dog had torn her ACL. Paz gave me a verbal estimate for the TPLO surgery, then emailed me a formal estimate that was almost $1k over the verbal estimate. I shopped around to other vets for the surgery, and found a reputable and licensed surgeon to complete it at a third of the cost -- and they even included PT for her. The surgeon shared that they could tell the ACL tear was very old due to the amount of arthritis my dog had acquired. TLDR: Paz refused to give my dog an x-ray, which made her live with a torn ACL for over a read more

The team went above and beyond to care for my giant pup that gets super anxious in new places, he's not animal friendly, and has difficulty trusting strangers as well. I know my dog.. *Note - original 5 star review in 2017: This veterinary clinic happened to be around the corner from my house, so I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. Such a great facility and such a great staff. I brought my pets in after our trip from the East Coast to Austin just to have a brief checkup and get on their books and have subsequently adopted a cat from a rescue locally. We lucked out with Dr. Riddick who has spent an inordinate amount of time with my pets, despite having been here less than 3 months. Highly recommend. This place cares about your pet *Updated review in 2023: Not sure what happened to this place. From other reviews, it looks like new corporate ownership. The customer service is non-existent. Book an appointment and they will call to tell you that you booked a different appt time 30 mins earlier and you're late (even though you didn't and you have the text confirmations to prove it) and they will threaten to reschedule your appt and charge you $115 for an emergency appt at the time that you booked originally. They try to upcharge you and sell you before walking through the door through a questionnaire that asks if you care about your pets diet and such which I assume means you're vulnerable to whatever they opt to sell based on your answers. Good thing they have a few solid veterinarians employed at this location that I regularly see - Dr. Thompson, Dr. Webb and Dr. Bush - because they are the only reasons I stay here. They don't follow up well on issues - mistyped my email and got a kickback from the email service, but never followed up with me regarding the issue for which I was awaiting a quote. Again didn't receive receipt not follow up since they had my email wrong, so called them to ask and at this point discovered that they had my will email wrong. But even after fixing it they did not resend any past emails. However, in spite of these administrative issues they have great vets here so I do recommend them highly. read more

After my dog's annual appointment with Paz in February I was already on the fence about bringing him back. Like many animals he gets nervous at the vet, and takes a little special care to get him to relax for a shot. For him they needed to take him to a room without me and cover his head with someone assisting. After his checkup the vet sent me home with Trazadone for him and suggested I give him a dose the night before and day of his next appointment. I was a little put off by the request to dope up my dog for 'his comfort' when it seemed like it was really to make the vet's job easier. I called last Thursday am to get in for an appointment noting that my dog had worsening diarrhea which is very unusual for him (has never happened), and there had been no changes in diet etc. She said they couldn't see me until Friday earliest. When I asked what I should look for while I wait for an appointment the woman on the phone told me she was the receptionist and could not advise. I asked if she could pass on the question to a tech or vet to contact me she told me they're very busy and probably wont be able to get back to me. It progressed quickly to vomiting blood and stool that was all blood no fecal matter. Ended up taking him to emergency vet an hour later. Luckily for me the signs my dog needed care immediately were very clear but to tell existing patients that they shouldn't expect any info/guidance until they're able to be seen a day or more out is unprofessional and potentially dangerous. There seem to be a lot more negative reviews since I first took my dog there, and I hope the leadership is noticing the need to invest in responsive staff. read more

I recently had dental surgery on my 12-year old pug. She had an infection in a couple teeth and needed a total of 7 removed. I was very nervous given her age and that my childhood pug had to be put down at the age of 10 due to brain damage post-dental surgery. But my lil soldier came out A-OK!! She has healed well and kept her sweet and lovely personality. And her breath is much better haha. I'm SO VERY DISAPPOINTED with this place! I've searched high and low for a vet that does not require rabies shots. My 2 cats are indoors. The only way they are going to contract rabies is if a squirrel or a bat somehow get into our house and bite them. Highly unlikely! I was told they have a holistic vet program that does not require vaccinations, which is why I started coming here. My cats are healthy and primarily come in for nail trims. Each time I've brought my babies in for a visit, they try to upsell me or charge a me for a vet visit that is not needed. I just had both of my cats blood work done in Feb. All came back healthy. When I called to book a nail trim in June, they tried to tell me another vet check was needed. I explained all I need is a nail trim. After persisting, they said ok. The nail trim was booked, requested paperwork filled out and I headed to the appt a week later. As I'm sitting in the car, waiting for them to pick up my kitty for her nail trim, the tech tells me my cat needs a rabies vaccine. I explain I don't have my cat vaccinated because she is indoors and that is the reason I come to this vet. She insists it's the law. Meanwhile, vets at previous visits confirmed it was not needed as long as the waiver was signed. I cancelled the appt on the spot and left, furious! I will NEVER bring my cats here again. Each time they saw a vet here, I was not happy with the service anyway. The team here is obviously motivated by money, rather than true pet care. Thank you for wasting my time today and causing my cat stress that was not needed. It's challenging enough to get her into the carrier and out of the house, but to do it for no reason at all is an extra inconvenience. read more

I generally am not one who writes reviews unless I become severely agitated. But in this instance, I am, in fact, very vexed. When we moved from SoCal a year and a half ago, we quickly sought out continuing veterinary care for our three indoor cats (13-16 years-old) and our dog (14ish years-old). We're good pet parents who provide our fur balls with the best of care; if a test is recommended, we get it. If a medication is required, we buy and administer it. If emergency care is needed, we secure it. We put a lot of money, time, and love into our pets, and it's important to us to work with a vet who shares our values. And so we were very pleased when we found Dr. Lassin at Paz South. Dr. Lassin was not only compassionate, but eminently reasonable, both in terms of his approach to treating our pets and in the care that he delivered. Yes, treatment and medications at Paz are more costly that we expected (especially relative to the Newport Beach, CA area -- the opposite of what we had imagined), but we were willing to accept it due to the care our animals received. As y'all (I can say that because I lived in Virginia for four years) probably know, it is more and more difficult to get your pets to the vet as they get older. They get more agitated, more fearful, more uncomfortable, and more dramatic. But still, you take them. While our dog generally gets to the vet about once a month (Cytopoint injections -- for which Paz surprisingly charges a "Tech Visit" fee -- a $45 charge we never encountered in CA, in Chicago, or in NYC), the cats don't get there as often. They're indoor cats; they're getting older; they usually go to the bathroom in the crates; and if something really bad did appear to be happening, trust me, we'd get them to the vet. Yesterday, I sent in a request (via California Pet Pharmacy, which is *much* cheaper for meds than any vet) to Paz for a refill of the flea medication Revolution for two of our cats (the third one is allergic to it and gets OTC Frontline Plus). Revolution is a bit better because it offers protection against worms and so forth, but it's not absolutely necessary since our cats *never* get out of the house. Also, admittedly, it's less messy to apply. After putting in my request, I received a voicemail from Paz informing me that they couldn't refill the cats' flea medications because they hadn't seen the cats in over a year. Okay. I get it. But then they offered me a "telemedicine" visit for my cats to get it done. WTH? Seriously? A *telemedicine* visit for my cats for a yearly visit? I understand that they want to make veterinary care as easy as possible during the COVID crisis. But how are we going to do a *telemedicine visit* with cats? Am I supposed to hold the cats up to the camera so they can hear the cats purr? Do they expect the cats to meow,"Well, I've been having a few less hairballs lately?" I personally don't have a stethoscope, so Paz can't listen to the cats' hearts, lungs, or abdomens. Paz can't look at their ears or teeth and gums (Have you ever been bitten by a cat? It freaking hurts.). And as for temperatures -- well, I certainly am not going to stick my *own thermometer* up my cats' butts. Paz's behavior represents such a blatant money grab that I have to say, again, WTH? It's not only medically questionable, it's absurd. (Couldn't they do a three-month refill and then indicate that the cats need to come in for a real appointment as COVID eases? Even my own physician is providing me with necessary refills while we postpone -- yet again -- my yearly physical.) Come on! Maybe if TPTB at PAZ weren't so interested in expanding to a fourth location, they'd be able to be more reasonable about "telemedicine" as well as the costs of the care they offer. So now, it's Frontline Plus for all of our cats. And while inertia (and my general satisfaction with the level, if not costs, of care there) probably will keep me at Paz, I won't be recommending Paz to anyone any longer. Lucy always leaves the clinic with a smile on her face. Dr. Johnson is on point, kind, and does an amazing job of integrating Eastern and Western medicine. She prescribed and suggested a helpful mix of acupuncture, herbs, medicine, supplements, and a diet change. Lucy's chronic allergies and skin issues are now under control and my girl is no longer chewing holes in herself. This vet doesn't deserve the 1 Star I'm giving it. Never in my life have I felt more like a number to someone than when I had an emergency with my pup. My dog had non-stop bloody diarrhea and bloody vomit so I called Paz asking if I could run in. First thing I'm told is that there is a $110 "Squeeze In Fee" because "I'm taking the doctors valuable time away from the scheduled pets." Now I understand that it's not an emergency clinic, but damn, that's the first thing you tell me. Luckily, I found a vet that cares at VCA. Had it not been for their quick action, my dog could have died from shock due to HGE. Thank you to the outstanding team at VCA Animal Hospital. Never again will I go to any Paz clinic and hope that this review guides you away. If this is your regular vet, I hope you never have an emergency with your pet because they care more about their numbers than your pet. Update: They called to apologize and say that the way I was treated was not in line. I appreciate the apology, but will still never recommend Paz to anyone. Don't read too much into their response. They barely even listened to what I was trying to communicate, I doubt they even have a vague clue of how out-of-touch their responses were. These guys are the best. I was visiting from out of state when my pup was attached by another dog and they were able to squeeze me in, making all sorts of accommodations along the way. Front desk staff, so understanding and helpful. Gal who did the pre-check-in, super friendly and willing to assist and make adjustments so my pup didn't need to be left alone. Dr. Keifer and his tech Becky were GREAT. Despite taking us last minute our appt didn't feel rushed at all, they explained all the steps and take-home meds carefully, and even gave additional advice about my boy's general health. I cannot recommend PAZ highly enough - these people really care and will be there for you and your pet when you need them. read more

I just want to update my review and let everyone know, you can go here and see any doctor and technician and they will treat your baby like they are their own. Dr. Isaac and Chris A. are still Tater's primary care vets but when we've had to be squeezed in, I can say that Dr. Riddick, Jordan and Patrick have been nothing short of exceptional. They take great pride in their work and although they do try to get you in with your primary vet, Paz has the utmost confidence that all of their vets will adhere to the same standard of excellence. PAZ took care of my cat and took care of me too. My 18-year-old orange tabby, Jake Jr., came down with an upper respiratory infection last week. After two trips to the emergency clinic, no improvement, and no availability at our usual vet, I gave PAZ a call. After giving them a rundown, they managed to fit me in just 30 minutes later. That alone would be enough to praise them for, but (as a trans woman) to show up and see visibly queer staff members made me feel immediately at home and safe. Toni (with pink hair today) met me with a smile in the parking lot. Miah got me settled and brought me a desperately-needed cup of coffee. Jeremy took a thorough history and listened to all of my concerns. Dr. Senthirajah gave me a mini-lecture (the good kind!) about what Jake Jr. was going through. I left having answers and a clear path forward as well as feeling seen and cared for in a way I don't think humans usually experience in veterinary clinics. read more

My pupper is feeling better! So I feel more confident in the choices the doctor made. ------ I called Paz pretty last minute and they were able to squeeze me in with an emergency fee of $99. It was my first time coming here; though, my partner had gone before to the east side location. He said they're so sweet and highly recommended it. I came in - it was quick and easy. In and out within an hour. My 3 stars is really to the vet practice, I read through some of the negative reviews and I get why a handful of folks feel upset. Paz is a bit heftier in pricing then other veterinarian. I'm just going to chalk it up as a more bougie/boujee, posh, fancy - you get the deal. So think there's a little bit more of an upcharge for things. When the vet walked in, my puppy immediate hid. She was just not vibing with her. I shared a little bit about what is going on - and the vet suggested that maybe my dog ate something like a toy or clothing (she definitely never eats clothing and while she destroys her toys, doesn't quite eat them). But I thought - sure it could be an option because who knows what Fido does in their spare time right? The vet (Dr. Barbara) suggested we get an X-ray just in case my puppy ate something. Just tact on +$160. The result? She didn't eat anything obscene. Additionally they suggested a doggy equivalent of IV-ing fluids in, and an anti-nausea injection, and an antibiotics and a set of bland dog food. The total was just about $400. Yowxa. Definitely not ideal but --when the vet came to explain everything. She talked so fast and said everything within a max span of 30-45 seconds, didn't ask if I had any questions, then my tech went and checked me out. I literally had no idea what I was saying yes to - I asked my vet tech when I left if they'd be giving me any info/documents on the meds and injections they gave my pup and he just said "no." While I'm super appreciative of getting my dog in last minute, I left feeling hustled and swindled (even if I may not have been) - maybe it was just their approach but it didn't sit right with me. Did I make the right call to getting my fur baby seen? Probably, yes! I'll bite the $400 bullet. Would I go back to Paz based on their approach/kindness/service? Hmmmmm.... still undecided. read more

After bringing my two Boston Terriers to Paz a few weeks ago, I'm quite confident I will need to find a new vet. I had been a huge fan of Paz (the east side Cesar Chavez location back when it was Corner Vet) when I lived down that way. I switched to Thrive for a year bc it was closer and cheaper, but returned to Paz bc I remembered how great they WERE. Enter the 2021 version of Paz and my recent experience end of Feb... over the top expensive, and the care my animals received was not that great. I knew they cost more than most vets, but it was almost $1000 to get two dogs updated vaccinations, blood work and heart worm/flea meds. They nickel and dime for every test, special shampoo, supplement and ear flush they can. My older pup has a mass on his leg they were investigating as possibly being malignant, and I am still yet to hear back from the vet with options and costs to test the mass. This was about a month and a half ago, so assuming they just forgot. They did, however, remember to throw in about 7 printed out pages about the cruelty of ear and tail docking...never asked for their opinion on that. I'm surely not the person who chose to dock my dogs' tails, and if I'd had a choice, I obviously wouldn't have had them docked. I found the mountain of tail docking literature pretty offensive, especially considering their was 0 literature about my dog's mass on his leg, just a bunch of opinions on how cruel of a person they think I must be for having dogs with docked tails. I probably won't ever bring my dogs back here again unless there is an emergency. Although maybe not even then... read the reviews on some of these emergency situations others have experienced... sounds like this place is all about money now, and not about actually doing the right thing for the love of animals. Re: I recently relocated to Austin from Jersey. I am writing this review based on a recent experience I had with "PAZ" Veterinary. My purpose for doing so is to warn any potential clients of what they're getting themselves into. Incident: On Monday 08/16/2021, I took my newly rescued dog to PAZ Veterinary for her second of two vaccines. Initially, I was told that the cost of each vaccine would be $36.25 which is what I was charged for the first. Only, today, two weeks later, after receiving her second shot, I was given a price of $36.25 plus an additional cost of $23.11 for "Technician Services" which I wasn't charged for after the first shot. Why wasn't I quoted that price when I originally asked what the cost would be? Why wasn't there a fee for "Technician Services" listed on my receipt after the first visit? Finally, I presented a list of 5 questions to the technician who came to my car to bring my dog inside for her shot. She told me that I wouldn't be seeing my doctor as my dog was only scheduled for the vaccine. So, I asked that she give the questions to the doctor in order that he may get back to me with the answers. She agreed. After the visit, she told me that the doctor would get back to me, later on, that same day. I said, "fine." The doctor called as promised. After 13 minutes of him answering my questions, he must have thought he was doing me some great favor when he said: "For this type of call, we usually get $44.00, but since you were just in earlier, what would you say to half that, $22.00?" I was caught totally off guard. As a result, I paid the $22.00 when the secretary called me less than a minute after I hung up with the doctor. It wasn't until later, that I reviewed the receipt emailed to me for the day's services. It plainly listed, "Reception Follow-Up Call... 1 Unit(s) $0.00." In Conclusion: "To PAZ Veterinary," The only thing you accomplished through these deceitful actions was that you lost a lifetime of loyal patronage from me and my pets. For a mere $45.11, you forfeited your right to my business. But beyond that, you lost any and all recommendations/endorsements that I would have happily given you. You seemed to be much more concerned with the $$$ than you were with my dog... and it shows! Final Caution: They will shower you with 'hugs & kisses' while reaching for your wallet. Money hungry establishment. My dog has visited numerous times to have a skin&allergy issue checked out that never got resolved. I recently came in on a Saturday to get an issue checked out with his ears and skin. Few days later he was rushed back for vomiting and I was charged an emergency fee on top of all of the medications/testing that was suppose to resolve my dogs issue. I walked out paying $530 on top of all of the other visits I paid over $200 for. The next day my dog is vomiting consistently and howling of pain and when I called to see if I can get him in the first thing that was slapped on me was a emergency service fee on top of what I would have to pay for an X-ray. My dog had NO vomiting issues before visiting the clinic and taking the medications. I am truly disappointed with PAZ. I should not be charged for something they gave my dog that resulted in all of these issues. read more

Dr. Lassin was our pet's regular vet. He was referred to us by two friends in two different towns. He's THAT good. He's knowledgeable, answers our many questions with patience and gives us excellent help in holistic care treatments. Most importantly, he was always gentle with our rescue dog. The email he sent when he found out about Booth's passing was empathetic and kind. Good bedside manner is a necessity when you have a pet with anxious humans. I highly recommend his services. My experience at the place was different from the other reviews. To me, This clinic is actually a bit of a Rip Off Machine more than a pet hospital. I brought in my elderly rescue dog, fresh from the shelter. I needed to get more medication....easy stuff, thyroid, fleas, etc. My other ancient rescue dog came along for the ride and to get more Adaquon. The decor was groovy and the parking lot paintings very impressive. Instead of giving me a bit of a break for taking in an elderly homeless dog, they charged me $700. For a checkup and med refill. The visit was short. I had to get the dogs ear infection dealt with at a real vets office the next day, as the young vet forgot to check his ears. By the way, why would such a young vet be already burned out? He acted like he was doing me a huge favor. I've never paid that kind of money for this type of exam and routine meds in my life . I have nothing but good things to say about Paz. They are so welcoming, will answer any and all of my questions, and actually care about their clients. Corgi's are notorious for being nightmares for vets, and despite doing a lot of desensitization with my pup at home, he still has a very hard time. Despite that, they take it in stride, and never make me feel ashamed. I recently took my pup out of state and went to a different vet to get his last round of core vaccines, and the way I was treated there was in stark contrast to my experiences at Paz and spurred me to write this review as it made me appreciate them all the more. Dr. Kiefer is so awesome with my little guy and he and all of the vet techs are so invested in his wellbeing, it's all I can ask for from a vet. read more

So happy that I discovered this gem of a clinic! My puppy is a happy camper. When I got a new puppy, I knew I was going to need a vet in Austin. I didn't expect to need one so quick, but he got sick week 1. I got on yelp and noticed that this place had great reviews. It was also one of the only vet clinics that have hours that are food for people with day jobs. The staff worked my little guy in immediately. The staff was all super friendly and helpful. I tried to book via the online system a few times and it's been down, asking you to call in to book an appointment. On yelp & their website, they are actively encouraging people to call in to book an appointment. Despite this, after calling the location nearest me I was told they aren't accepting new visitors at this time and don't know whether any of the other locations are either. She recommended I call their automated phone tree number 3 more times to ask the same question of each location instead. I can't imagine I'm the first person she's told they aren't accepting appointments so the fact no alternative location was offered feels like they need to communicate more between the offices to prevent themselves from losing customers. I had heard good things previously, but administration and communication are important parts of services that vets and other businesses provide, so this was pretty disappointing. read more
