We have been going here for awhile now! We love the various doctors that we've worked with and I love that they are a bit more affordable than other places. It can be difficult to get an appointment because they are always booked out. I think this is also a good indicator of how popular they are and how other pet owners like them as well. One thing that can be frustrating is that they gate keep their prescriptions. They really REALLY want you to buy your pets prescriptions from them, so they make it difficult to buy it from other locations like Chewy.com. You have to pay extra money to have the prescription sent to you and then you have to snail mail the prescription to chewy which is a pain. It's annoying because usually chewy does have better prices. Despite this, I still really like this vet and will keep going. They treat Sadie well and I feel like they are all really nice when we come in for an appt. read more

I asked politely, if my dog can have his anal glands expressed and may he please be wiped down. Because i brought him in a carrier. I have visited this place many times and he expresses them more later so I asked if it can be made sure emptied and be wiped down because now the price has risen for the service. So if anytime it was to be done right with care towards MY DOG CARRIER! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOW! well now i have to leave a negative rating which i hate to do because the front desk ladies are attentive and sweet and the vet tech seemed like a cool dude. Be prepared to wait in the parking lot for at least an hour. I understand COVID makes drop off and pickup difficult. With this in mind, most vets and doctors have cut the amount of appointments they will grant per day. Capital Vet has not done this. They are not ready or do not care. Last week, I called and asked "when is your next appointment?". 4pm Tuesday", she said. "Call when you arrive and we'll come out to pick up your dog". I arrived at 3:55 and called. "Ok we'll be right out.", she said. I called again at 4:15 for an update. "You're up next", she said. Keep in mind it's 100 degrees in a boiling hot parking lot with a dog. At 4:45, I called again. This time pretty frustrated. "Let me check how many people are in front of you". Understandably, this isn't an acceptable answer. Everyone else in the parking lot shared a similar experience. One woman has been here for two hours and now her car is out of gas. It's now 5:30pm, I still haven't gotten in for my 4pm appointment and I'm leaving. They may give wonderful service but I wasn't able to find out. read more

From the moment that I called Captial Veterinary Clinic, I could feel how warm & caring that the staff is. It was recommended to me by someone. I am thankful to have found them. I was quoted several hundred dollars from another vet clinic. The very awesome thing about Dr. Scroggs is that he is very caring & won't recommend something just to run up cost. He thinks very strategically. I brought a cat in that we have had for 16 years. I took on my sisters kids after she died of cancer. My niece & nephew had to get rid of all of the cats in the household before my sister died. Because she couldn't breathe. The first thing that I did was get them a cat when they came to live with me. This cat rescued us. He is very important to our family. He was having all kinds of issues with being a senior cat. Dr. Scroggs took the time to visit with me about options. I had a boxer who was 8, she got sick overnight, this office could not find time to see her, after hours of calling other vets in town, she was able to be seen, and so sick I had to put her to sleep. I was already in utter panic, and our own vet could not find time to squeeze her in! Now 2 years later, I have another boxer, and she has become ill, I am still a patient with Capital, I called and once again, not able to see her for 2 weeks! Such CRAP! I am changing vets. Every office should have 3 appts on hold for emergency patients. When you have a sick pet, calling around to find help is the last thing we should have to do. read more

She took her time with me. I felt like she understood where I was coming from. The receptionist, Joy, was very pleasant and handled incoming, check-out and phones amazingly well. Yes, I had to wait to check out but since I could see how busy she was, I was good with that. I loved the cute Papillion who barked at me when I entered. Tough crowd. I'll go back for vet services. This place feels very real to me. I agree about this not being a frills location. They didn't try to upsell me on anything. I appreciate that. read more

From the experience I had, it was great I took in my 4month old puppy that had been sick for a while and I panicked because I didn't want to go to a place that would overcharge me. I brought my puppy here because emancipet had them as a recommendation and they really helped my puppy. She had a virus and they gave her antibiotics and were honest with me about recommending me things. They didn't seem like they wanted to overcharge me and gave me good advice. Will definitely will be back here if my puppy ever has issues or If anyone needs a recommendation. Thing I loved is that it was a walk in clinic only. I struggled of where to take her because pet hospitals tend to overcharge. I thought they were going to charge me more but charged me a reasonable price. I can not believe how bad this practice has become. Several months ago we tried to get her in because she was throwing up and couldn't keep food down. Called and they just didn't care. Today we take her in because she injured her leg and needed her vaccines. I went on their website and was instructed to just go im no appointment needed. We get there at 8am and spoke to several people, apparently you need to call but we did that before we drove all the way from San Marcos no answer. To add insult to injury my Dog of 12 years was in terrible paIn and shaking uncontrollably. They just did not care. We have been going to this Vet for 10 years. All our pets have been taken care of there, even 2 that are no longer with us. They really were amazing and now they seem to be only in it for the money. They kept trying to blame COVID-19. That's BS! If they truly cared about animals they would have taking this senior injured animal in but they refused. read more

From the beginning when Megan answered the phone, to check in and time with the doctor I was MORE than satisfied! Y'all this clinic is amazing. I've been taking my cat here for years. Every single vet and staff member I've ever encountered has been so professional and friendly. They've never tried to up-sell me, they've never lectured me about having an indoor/ outdoor cat. They have always been kind and caring. I have been a customer here for 5 years until yesterday. I called at 4:45 because my dog was sick, had thrown up 5 times,no appetite and was lethargic. The receptionist told me that they closed at 5:30 but to bring him in. When I got to the clinic at 5:17 (driving in traffic from far south Austin), they told me they could not see my dog because they were about to close and there were no vets available. One of the girls at the front desk went to the back to talk to the vet and she came back out and told me to take him to the emergency ER. I could not believe they turned us away. I contacted another clinic near my home that closed at 6 PM. I pulled up to their front doors at 5:50 PM. They welcomed me and my dog. We stayed until 7 PM last night and took very good care of my dog. They were very thorough and very kind. He was still very sick this morning. They called me to check on him and asked me to bring him back in for fluids. Thank you Star of Texas Vet Hospital for your amazing customer service and care for my pet. Unfortunately, I will not recommend anyone to go to Capital. They now have one less client. read more

After buying prescription food here for some time, I took my cat in for blood work on a Friday. Dr. Scroggs was great, and thank goodness he treated her UTI with antibiotics right on the spot based on her medical records I brought from Seattle. The following Monday, I got a call from "Rachel" who told me my cat was in renal failure, and the doctor would do some "research" to determine what medications were needed, and promised to call back. After waiting two days for a return call, I personally went back to the office to get a copy of her lab report and find out which medications had been ordered on my behalf. Two more days AFTER the medications supposedly arrived for me to pick up, I still had not heard from anyone at the office. I found both medications on Amazon, and placed an order. Dr. Scroggs was the best part of this clinic, however follow-up has been nonexistent. I felt I needed to make an appointment with another vet in order to ascertain a course of action for my ailing cat based on the lab work done at Capital Vet ! Unfortunately, this clinic is squandering its positive aspects by providing unbelievably poor communication and follow-up. read more

Dr. Sanders is that Country style Vet we all love. Everyone there lnows what they are doing and they do it very well. Blue my Labrador actually gets excited when we go see them. I liked his place a lot, for about the first six months after I adopted my dog. It's walk in which is convenient for minor emergencies. I really liked the vets I've seen there, and the vet techs were pretty nice too. It's affordable, as well. I stopped going here because: My dog was having back/hip issues of unknown origin. I'd come in a few times, gotten x-rays done, they'd even gotten a specialist opinion on the cheap for me. Pretty great. The vet had prescribed Rimadyl for the time being, it's a commonly prescribed anti-inflammatory drug, most dogs do not have a problem with it. However, at 4am that night/next morning after I started my dog on this drug he started to have symptoms of an allergic reaction. I took him off the drug immediately. How did I know it was an allergic reaction? I should hope I know, I work in complimentary human health care and have cared for dogs and horses professionally as well. Anyway, the next morning I politely explained to the woman at the front desk (not a vet or vet tech) that my dog was allergic to Rimadyl, listed his symptoms, and asked if I could maybe get him a prescription to a different anti-inflammatory medication instead. She...said no. She told me that there was no way that the drug could have caused the symptoms because it was an anti-inflammatory drug, and those symptoms were the opposite. She then said that she'd have a refill ready for me when he was done with that bottle, didn't give me the chance to speak to a vet/vet tech. So, that amazing display of ignorance was enough for me to want to find a new vet. I love my new vet, and haven't looked back. read more

Probably the worst vet experience I've ever had. I don't even know where to begin. If I could give ZERO or negative stars, I would. The vet and staff were all rude and short with me. I came in to get my dog tested and a new prescription for her condition (That they knew about). They took her out of the room for her "shots" and tests, charged me twice for the appointment, then wouldn't give me my prescription unless I ordered through their pharmacy. They kept saying they changed policies they never told me about previously that would require more money, more visits, etc. When ordering my prescription online and asking them to approve the prescription, the girl at the front desk first called to tell me they already approved it, then that they couldn't find it, then that they sent it to the wrong pharmacy, then that there was a $10 fee to fax it, then that they couldn't fill it at all. Even when requesting to speak to the vet, no one called me back. When I finally told them I wanted to take my file to another vet, they didn't even give me the test results that I had paid a lot of money to have done. The most disturbing part is that the condition my dog has is pretty serious. Without her medication, she could go into shock and die. If they cared more about the animals than the money, they would've put the animals first and settled the bill with me later. I had a friend who worked there in the past and that was the only reason I gave the place a chance. My first experience with Dr. Kimbrough was pleasant but the next experience was so horrible, I would never return and highly urge anyone to avoid going there.
