We have been going here for awhile now! We love the various doctors that we've worked with and I love that they are a bit more affordable than other places. It can be difficult to get an appointment because they are always booked out. I think this is also a good indicator of how popular they are and how other pet owners like them as well. One thing that can be frustrating is that they gate keep their prescriptions. They really REALLY want you to buy your pets prescriptions from them, so they make it difficult to buy it from other locations like Chewy.com. You have to pay extra money to have the prescription sent to you and then you have to snail mail the prescription to chewy which is a pain. It's annoying because usually chewy does have better prices. Despite this, I still really like this vet and will keep going. They treat Sadie well and I feel like they are all really nice when we come in for an appt. read more

I asked politely, if my dog can have his anal glands expressed and may he please be wiped down. Because i brought him in a carrier. I have visited this place many times and he expresses them more later so I asked if it can be made sure emptied and be wiped down because now the price has risen for the service. So if anytime it was to be done right with care towards MY DOG CARRIER! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOW! well now i have to leave a negative rating which i hate to do because the front desk ladies are attentive and sweet and the vet tech seemed like a cool dude. I was a client here until one day I called and tried to get my dog in because he was ill. They said they were a week out on appointments. I did not need emergency care but waiting a week was too long. I was advised to go to another vet or the emergency hospital. I tried one other vet who also had a week long waiting list so I took him to the emergency hospital. At the end of the day I had a $1500 bill and inconclusive test results. He thinks very strategically. I brought a cat in that we have had for 16 years. I took on my sisters kids after she died of cancer. Be prepared to wait in the parking lot for at least an hour. I understand COVID makes drop off and pickup difficult. With this in mind, most vets and doctors have cut the amount of appointments they will grant per day. Capital Vet has not done this. They are not ready or do not care. Last week, I called and asked "when is your next appointment?". 4pm Tuesday", she said. "Call when you arrive and we'll come out to pick up your dog". I arrived at 3:55 and called. "Ok we'll be right out.", she said. I called again at 4:15 for an update. "You're up next", she said. Keep in mind it's 100 degrees in a boiling hot parking lot with a dog. At 4:45, I called again. This time pretty frustrated. "Let me check how many people are in front of you". Understandably, this isn't an acceptable answer. Everyone else in the parking lot shared a similar experience. One woman has been here for two hours and now her car is out of gas. It's now 5:30pm, I still haven't gotten in for my 4pm appointment and I'm leaving. They may give wonderful service but I wasn't able to find out. read more

I had a boxer who was 8, she got sick overnight, this office could not find time to see her, after hours of calling other vets in town, she was able to be seen, and so sick I had to put her to sleep. I was already in utter panic, and our own vet could not find time to squeeze her in! Now 2 years later, I have another boxer, and she has become ill, I am still a patient with Capital, I called and once again, not able to see her for 2 weeks! Such CRAP! I am changing vets. Every office should have 3 appts on hold for emergency patients. When you have a sick pet, calling around to find help is the last thing we should have to do. read more

From the experience I had, it was great I took in my 4month old puppy that had been sick for a while and I panicked because I didn't want to go to a place that would overcharge me. I brought my puppy here because emancipet had them as a recommendation and they really helped my puppy. She had a virus and they gave her antibiotics and were honest with me about recommending me things. They didn't seem like they wanted to overcharge me and gave me good advice. Will definitely will be back here if my puppy ever has issues or If anyone needs a recommendation. Thing I loved is that it was a walk in clinic only. I struggled of where to take her because pet hospitals tend to overcharge. I thought they were going to charge me more but charged me a reasonable price. I can not believe how bad this practice has become. Several months ago we tried to get her in because she was throwing up and couldn't keep food down. Called and they just didn't care. Today we take her in because she injured her leg and needed her vaccines. I went on their website and was instructed to just go im no appointment needed. We get there at 8am and spoke to several people, apparently you need to call but we did that before we drove all the way from San Marcos no answer. To add insult to injury my Dog of 12 years was in terrible paIn and shaking uncontrollably. They just did not care. We have been going to this Vet for 10 years. All our pets have been taken care of there, even 2 that are no longer with us. They really were amazing and now they seem to be only in it for the money. They kept trying to blame COVID-19. That's BS! If they truly cared about animals they would have taking this senior injured animal in but they refused. read more

Yes, I had to wait to check out but since I could see how busy she was, I was good with that. I loved the cute Papillion who barked at me when I entered. Tough crowd. I'll go back for vet services. Y'all this clinic is amazing. I've been taking my cat here for years. Every single vet and staff member I've ever encountered has been so professional and friendly. They've never tried to up-sell me, they've never lectured me about having an indoor/ outdoor cat. They have always been kind and caring. I have been a customer here for 5 years until yesterday. I called at 4:45 because my dog was sick, had thrown up 5 times,no appetite and was lethargic. The receptionist told me that they closed at 5:30 but to bring him in. When I got to the clinic at 5:17 (driving in traffic from far south Austin), they told me they could not see my dog because they were about to close and there were no vets available. One of the girls at the front desk went to the back to talk to the vet and she came back out and told me to take him to the emergency ER. I could not believe they turned us away. I contacted another clinic near my home that closed at 6 PM. I pulled up to their front doors at 5:50 PM. They welcomed me and my dog. We stayed until 7 PM last night and took very good care of my dog. They were very thorough and very kind. He was still very sick this morning. They called me to check on him and asked me to bring him back in for fluids. Thank you Star of Texas Vet Hospital for your amazing customer service and care for my pet. Unfortunately, I will not recommend anyone to go to Capital. They now have one less client. read more

We've been going to Capital Veterinary Clinic for 30 years now. The staff is awesome Dr. Scrogg is very straight forward and kind, its obvious he cares a lot for his Patients. Dr. Sanders is that Country style Vet we all love. Everyone there lnows what they are doing and they do it very well. Blue my Labrador actually gets excited when we go see them. I've been here a few times over the past 1.5 years and I have been very satisfied every time. My dog, Max, is a sweet 70ish pound Blackmouth Cur, who gets very anxious around other dogs, so the couple times we had to wait in the waiting room, he was loud and whiney, but the nurses were all very understanding. Max, and the one time we brought my mom's dog in for an emergency, has always been seen by Dr. Sanders. I can't speak highly enough about him. He has plenty of experience and does not jump to putting a dog on treatment or medicine if he doesn't really believe that it is necessary. He speaks calmly, both Max and my mom's dog have taken to him very well. read more

I have been here several times, with several animals of ours and have had mixed experiences. I went in with my dog Xoco that had a tumor removed off her stomach, spade, and teeth pulled and cleaned all in one days experience. I brought my dog Izzi in about four months ago for her teeth issues and allergies. At that time she had a loose tooth and I wanted them to do a cleaning and maybe remove that tooth. They gave her some blood work to see why she was sneezing so much that was it. I really wanted her teeth cleaned and the loose one removed. The vet that day said there wasn't a loose tooth when I was physically able to move it myself. But to my surprise it wasn't done when I picked her up. Recently took her back in to get her tooth removed because it was falling out of the gum and she had a hard time closing her mouth because it's stuck outside of the hole in her gum. This has been going on with her for a little over a month now. The vet called me back and said her teeth look fine and he can't find a loose tooth in her mouth, I told him that it was there in her upper back right part of her jaw. He told me I've look all of her mouth and there's not a tooth loose in there. I told him there was to keep looking. He said I'm telling you all her teeth are fine. So go to pick her up and in the 10 seconds she back in the car with me the same tooth is popping back out. All I wanted was to pay someone to get that tooth removed it seems to be hurting her. But instead got charged for antibiotics, a kennel fee (I suppose for not being right outside the vet hospital when they called me), bloodwork and several other fees paying a total of 300$ basically for nothing. I will be choosing a new vet from this point on, these guys are terrible. read more

This was my first time to this vet and I am very impressed and happy with the service. The wait was pretty long but as soon as the vet came in she acknowledged it, apologized and explained that there was an emergency surgery that occupied one of their vets. The vet techs knew how to handle my cat and the vet came in and explained everything very thoroughly. She answered all my questions and took her time with me and my heeb. I'm super happy to have found this place and will absolutely go back if my kitties have any issues in the future! read more
