ZippiVet South Lamar is THE BEST! They have the kindest staff and really care about your puppy's health! I am so touched! My dog had an ear infection and they were fully booked for a check up this week. But I spoke to Brian on the phone and he called all of their VippiVet locations to try and find an appointment for our little cavapoo puppy! And the Kyle location was able to get us in to help him get medicine. Brian was SO NICE & even called a day later to follow up and see if our puppy was ok! Love the convenience of the drive-up waiting concept, and everyone was incredibly kind. That said, my experience felt a bit off. When my dog turned 10, we brought him in for his first senior wellness exam. One of his values was slightly elevated and could suggest early hypothyroidism. It was not definitive but worth monitoring. The vet recommended additional testing, which we declined since the elevated values were barely concerning. I appreciated their caution and asked if there was anything we could do to help bring the value back to mid range at such an early stage. They offered treatment plans and weekly medication. I clarified that I was looking for something less invasive & more diet-based. They said they do not offer homeopathic solutions here, in something of a judgmental tone. Makes sense, why would they? There's no money in it for them if I could solve it myself. So I went home, did my own research, and started adding kelp supplements to his food. A year later, we took him back for his annual exam, and his values came back completely normal. That said, like any other healthcare and healthcare adjacent fields these days, be careful of the advice you heed. We switched vets the following year. And I will say, it's hard to find a holistic doctor that doesn't push drugs as a first resort, much less a vet. read more

My dog Peanut had the most terrible experience here where he went *BLIND* following a teeth cleaning with Dr. Lacy Ballis. The real disappointment was (manager?) Mae Woods' atrocious customer service when I brought up concerns about his care and a refund. I do not recommend this business to anyone. It was satisfactory for basic check ups for a few years, but in April 2024 Dr. Lacy Ballis recommended Peanut do another $1,000 teeth cleaning with her (he had one the prior year too) to treat a sneeze he was having. Her bedside manner was not great-- calling Peanut's teeth "pretty disgusting" to suggest cleaning (I brush his teeth at home too.) I trusted them and needed help so we did the anesthesia teeth cleaning. Dr. Ballis left me a voice stating the (correction) **ProBNP value on his bloodwork was elevated above their limit for surgery but it was okay to do it anyway, not sure if that's related to what happened. After his procedure he was disoriented, scared, vomiting black, and I assumed it was the pain meds. The next few days I realized he was bumping into things, had loss of coordination, and expressed this to Dr. at the 1st check up. After a week post-op it was clear he could not see at all and was still as disoriented as he was after surgery. He never had vision problems prior to this. When I took him back, they ran hundreds dollars more of tests then sent me to AVES. In conclusion, the sneeze was never solved by the teeth cleaning, Peanut's quality of life has has been greatly affected by this incident, and complete disregard by management was insulting. When I expressed concern to Mae Woods, she assured me they would refund the costs of this incident. Mae Woods proceeded to refund the least expensive test fee (unlike we discussed) and refused to refund the cost of the teeth cleaning where he went blind. Zippi Vet then "released" me from the vet and ignored my emails and calls. Obviously I had found a new vet. Peanut is now permanently blind and handicap for the rest of his life after this procedure at Zippi Vet. I think a full refund would have been the bare minimum acceptable solution for what happened to him. Please do not take your pets here if you want quality care and safety for them. Due to Zippi Vet's treatment and Mae Woods dismissive communication, I've conclude this a money hungry vet who does not care about their pets or customers at all. I will never forget how they treated Peanut and the lack of concern. I recently brought my papillon to have dental consultation and schedule a surgery. The clinic itself is filthy. I can understand that there may be some fur on the floor in a vet clinic. However, there was fur all over the furniture in the lobby and on the bench in the exam room. The exam table was looked like it had never been wiped down, it was smeared with god knows what from god knows when. The entire facility smelled. It's a "whose on first' cluster F in regards to the staff. Aside from the vet and the one male vet tech, they have ZERO people skills. There are signs plastered all over the front of the building, saying to text them to collect your pet from the vehicle. News flash, COVID is over. When I walked in, no one wanted to greet me, and they asked me to text them from the lobby that I was standing in to let them know that I have arrived. Forgive me, but can you not see a client standing in your lobby? You need to rely on a text message and avoid in human interaction? The staff, will not put the wellness of your pet first. It is common knowledge that it is not safe to combine any surgical procedure with a vaccination as it can lead to complications and even the death of your pet. The secretary, Emily, in her infinite wisdom, insisted that they would be giving my dog a rabies vaccine in combination with the surgery because it was "state law". I told her to go ahead and refund my deposit for the procedure immediately. My dog has a loose tooth that needs to be removed and can't wait three weeks to recover from rabies vaccine. The correct thing to do in my opinion for the wellbeing of any animal is to the address the more critical need first, which in this case would be his tooth. I recommend avoiding this place at all costs. read more

Andrew even called us on his off day to give us the results from the bloodwork and made sure our dog was safe and healthy!! I have been taking my dogs here for 6 years and will never go to another vet in Austin. They are so incredibly personable and take care of your animals as if they were their own! They have consistently gone above and beyond to make sure they can get us an appointment asap, responsive, and will take the time to answer any question or concern you have. This review is for all the staff at the South Lamar location and Dr. Zee & Dr. Kingstad. We had to write a review after our most recent visit because we are so grateful for the extra time and care that went into our dog's appointment. Our pup has vet anxiety but Dr. Kingstad and Emily took their time to make sure we had a smart game plan and our dog was comfortable. After 3 failed attempts to get his bloodwork done this year *at another vet,* we switched gears and took our dog to ZippiVet. Dr. Kingstad got it on his first attempt, not even a hematoma! Thank you Emily and Dr. Kingstad for working with our boy. Lots of gratitude for you! Dr. Zee worked with our kittyboy earlier this year and we had nothing but good things to say about him. ZippiVet - S. Lamar zippievet location - Veterinarians Near Me - Austin, Texas

I've been coming to Zippivet for several years now. I first discovered them when one of my cats had an emergency and the vet I usually go to was closed on the weekend and couldn't get me in for two weeks. An emergency hospital is super expensive so Zippivet was a beacon of light I could take her to. I've been to the north location, south Lamar and Kyle locations. They've all been very similar and good. The exam fee is actually less than what my other vet office charges. They have an online scheduler or can call to make an appointment. This past summer my cat had an eye infection and I brought him in within a couple of days. Theses days vets are super busy and booked out so I was happy I was able to get in on short notice. After the first visit, they followed up with me numerous times via phone and text. Then I brought him back in for a follow up the next week since the meds weren't working and they gave me other options like getting liquid antibiotics since he was into the pill pockets and not taking them. The personal attention was appreciated. I've brought my cats in for vaccines at Zippivet too and lab tests. With Covid precautions, you show up for your appointment and text that you're there and what space you're parked in. A tech comes out to bring your pet inside for the exam and call you if any questions or updates. Then to pay, a text is sent with a link and it's very easy. Then they bring your pet back out to your waiting vehicle. The location on south Lamar has an enclosed patio that you can wait there as well. My old vet couldn't compete and doesn't try to make exceptions when an emergency comes up and Zippivet costs less and has multiple locations and open on weekends. read more

There was a gentleman waiting for my pup and I when we arrived (he opened the door for us upon entrance!) though, he said he doesn't typically stand by the door waiting for people to come in lol. Brought my kitty to zippi vet s Lamar today. I recently adopted her after my mother and stepfather died within about 7 months of each other. Basically I don't know much about her and was little worried about how the visit might go. Dr. Zee was amazing. He answered all my questions with enthusiasm and genuine caring, even when i know some were silly about trying to get to know how old the cat is and what breed she is. The staff were all friendly and seemed to really care about her and were very personable. I was worried she was going to be really traumatized when i brought her home but she got back to her normal self much sooner than expected!! I will definitely bring her back here! Everything was very smooth- Brian at the front desk was charming and went the extra mile for us, called every day and made sure we were taken care of. My moms pup hadn't been to the vet in a few years and it was time to get her checked out... we knew her breath was bad, and had no idea the state of her teeth because she wouldn't let us look. I'm not one to write a negative review because things happen.. however, do not take your pets to ZippiVet. This office has given inaccurate and inconsistent diagnosis's to my cat, my roommates cat, and my friends cat on multiple different occasions. 1) They said my cat was cleared of ringworm, after getting a second opinion it turns out he still had ringworm and could have spread it to the other cats in our home had I not gotten a second opinion. After calling ZippiVet and explaining the situation, they said they 'didn't know what was wrong with their 'woods lamp' I'm sorry... what? You're a veterinary office... I would consider getting that fixed asap. 2) Even more alarming, they told my roommate that her cat was pregnant. We were suspicious because my cat had been neutered recently and we watch them very closely so it was almost impossible that that would've happened. However, with a vet telling us she had already been pregnant for 25-30 days, we believed them. She was too young to have kittens so we decided to get a spay and have the kittens removed. We got a call that it turns out, she was not pregnant. How do you mistake a 5 month old cat being pregnant? There was price discrepancies all over both receipts. 3) My friends cat had a cold, and ZippiVet diagnosed it as cat herpes without any testing. ZippiVet had her buy two types of medicine and a preventative medicine costing close to $200 for a common cold which turned out to NOT be herpes. Along with that, they are constantly trying to up-sell things that just aren't needed. Bottom line, ZippiVet is here to make money and profit rather than using the resources that they have to help pets with a true diagnosis. read more

I am so very impressed by the customer service at the S Lamar location! My vet tech, Leslye, and vet Dr. Zee were absolutely amazing to work with. My dog, Rufus, usually has really bad anxiety and during the times of COVID, I was nervous about not going in with him to the vet office as he can become very scared/nippy. Leslye made me feel at ease leaving Rufus in her hands and truly showed she cared about making Rufus feel comfortable. She patiently listened to all my concerns on the phone and handled it very professionally. Dr. Zee was great at explaining Rufus's medical needs to me over the phone, and did not give off the impression of being rushed and wanted to make sure he covered all my concerns. DO NOT TAKE YOUR FUR BABIES HERE :( I had been taking my dogs to Zippivet since 2016 and have recently switched to a much more pleasant and professional vet office for an array of reasons. I'm not normally one to complain unless something incredibly wrong happens. (Just look at all my other yelp reviews, they are almost ALL positive) If I could give this place zero stars, I absolutely would. 1) Their prices keep going up while the quality of their work/staff has gone down. *edit: I now go to a more highly rated vet office that administers the same vaccines for significantly less than they charge. 2) They've given me inconsistent/ inaccurate test results (one year my dogs had Lyme disease, the next year they said they didn't have it). **edit: In their response to me, they say that they've explained this to me, but they clearly did not. They never even brought it up during the appointment. It's as if they didn't even notice. I was the one that noticed the inconsistency after receiving the test results. I'm more upset bc they claim they told me about this but they are choosing to lie about it. 3) Unprofessional staff. The vet techs NEVER seem to know who my dogs are or what they are there for during their appointments. The past couple of times I've been there they've asked me what vaccine boosters my dogs needed for the visit. When I told them I didn't know, they proceeded to spend minutes scrolling through medical records in silent annoyance as if it was my job to know what exact booster was to be administered. 4) Their new office has homeless people around quite often that come inside the waiting area for their free coffee and scare the bejeezus out of my dogs. Instead of asking them to leave, the staff just let them sit in the waiting room shoulder to shoulder with me and terrorize my rescue dog. She has awful anxiety toward strange, big men because she was abused by one in the past. :( **note for the owner/staff: There are ways to respectfully ask someone to leave. Especially someone that is bothering and agitating your customers by sitting uncomfortably close to them, smelling of alcohol at 10 am and touching your pet who clearly does not want to be touched. You guys are not a homeless shelter. It is not your job to serve the local homeless. It's your job to provide veterinary services to paying clients and to make sure it is a safe area for us and our pets. 5) I've noticed a frequent changes in staff in the years I've gone here. There was always someone new who never knew who my dogs were, what they were there for, and their patient history. I now go to a vet office that know my pets by name right when I walk in through the door. Anyway, if you want the best care for your pets, go to a different office. Believe me, there are MUCH better ones for the same or lower prices. I cannot stress this enough. Do not take your pets here. read more

The best thing about this vet is that they're open practically everyday or at least ok the weekends so if your normal vet isn't open, they are a great substitute! Location: the place is small and quiet. Everything looks pretty clean from what I saw. Parking is very limited but since they go by appointments, you should have no problem finding a spot. Doctor and staff: they're all really friendly. The doctor was professional and laid everything out for me when it came to my dogs pain. I was transparent with them and they were with me. Overall I think it's extremely comparable with my normal vet. Overall thank you zippivet for taking my dog in. Exam, two meds and a rabies shot costed me $100. This Vet's office is nothing short of Fantastic in terms of care and service! We adopted 2 adorable kittens from APA so we got their well checks for free, which was nice! I've been to many vet offices over the years to treat both dogs and cats. One of the main issues is that the wait time can sometimes take quite long before you're seen, even with an appointment. Not only did this vet take our two adorable kittens back early, but she was extremely thorough and conscientious with the examination. The vet took her time to examine each cat, and order the appropriate tests, and even took the time to review proper food and nutrition as well! Having lived in Austin for nearly three years now, I was ready to find a new vet for my pups. Old vet had crazy waiting periods for appointments so I spotted this little golden nugget as I drove by one day. Nestled in what looks to be a parking lot, temporarily they are building a brick and mortar location, the shiny bright RV caught my eye. After doing a bit of research online and determining their pricing was more than far, I gave it a shot. Booking my online appointment was easy, as well as creating my pups' online profile. The staff was overly attentive and super gentle with my worried little tykes. They listened exceedingly well and took very good notes. They were even forgiving of the fact that I had forgotten all my vaccination history. They also took great care in explaining what each medication is used for and why they recommended certain future treatments. The physical handling of my dogs was also above the bad excellent, even my one pup who normally wails like a banshee only let out a tiny peep. The staff did a superb job of keeping them calm and as comfortable as can be. Very happy to call this place home for the foreseeable future! read more

I've taken my doggie to this location maybe 3 or 4 times since moving to Austin! The pros: I really appreciate that they have an easy online system where you can book appointments without actually having to call anyone. There's also a portal you can access that has all my dogs information and previous medications that she has been prescribed by them! Also, They are still taking major precautions to keep everyone safe from covid-19 (curbside service) !! The cons: During two of my dog's appointments at zippivet she has gotten blood tests done. On both occasions I've had to wait a very long time to get results. Both times I've had a call and ask if the results had come back yet and then had to wait some more so they could check for me. I'm still currently waiting for some results from a week ago. The prices here are not the cheapest but I feel like most vets I've been to have similar pricing. Each of my visits usually cost around 200-400$ (But that is very dependent on the reason for your pets visit) Lastly, while I am definitely happy that they are using curbside service to protect against Covid... it's really inconvenient for me that I have to sit in my car in the parking lot the entire time without being able to leave and come back. My last visit I sat in my car for about two hours... I had to leave my car running because it's around 95° outside so I need the air conditioner & ended up wasting a ton of gas. read more

This is only 4 stars not on part of the person I am about to write an awesome review about but part of the first time I went. I felt overwhelmed with information I had already knew. I had went to a previous vet in Corpus Christi as I adopted a mixed Rottie from the Human Society who gave me an estimate for heartworm treatment. As I get here I ended up with triple the cost of an estimate, the vet continued to repeatedly educate me about the things I already knew as if to justify certain extra procedures that cost extra, resulted to a $2,500 estimate that I was not comfortable with. I felt like I was at a car dealership and trying to get up sold on everything, I understand the procedure and heart worm process is long and can be dangerous and expensive, but the IV and giving my dog an epidural type treatment seemed excessive. I know she will have pain, but we have all been to that Dentist who wants to apply certain things to procedures that end up costing thousands then you opt out, end up fine and realized you didn't need all that other fluff. The Vet continues to laugh and say "yeah, our estimate is going to be exceptionally higher than the other place.. But everything in our estimate is necessary for Layla" The key word I heard and me being in sales, was "NECEsSARY" Lol this to me seemed to be a sales tactic that I do not even think the Vet notices she was using. It makes clients feel they MUST do it this way. Did not sit with me well but my roommate comes here and recommended this place for me because she said her vet did the MOST to SAVE her money. Nonetheless, I came here a second time for shots and Terrance was a lovely nurse? Or Vet Nurse? He gave me options for Layla on how to save money on senior dog food, vitamins she can take to increase her bone strength. Even gave her treats and answered all my questions and was very gentle with her. He completely changed my review from a 2 star to a 4 star. Dr. Cristin and Chance were very helpful and fixed me pup very quickly and without any whimpers, crying or growling. It's a mobile home converted but they also have a free standing building in the same parking lot. My dog, Mauzi, got a pretty serious scratch running in Walnut Creek Park ... and after carefully examining it, it looked a little bit serious. I gave them a call and they told to come right over. No wait, no drama and very friendly! Dr. Cristin numbed the area and put 4 quick quiet easy stitches in. My dog had no idea it was even happening. Dr. Christin has a very calm, quiet and soft spoken bed side manner. Chance was extremely helpful and made the whole experience so relaxed, I almost forgot to pay. Normally that is the crappy part of a vet bill on a Sunday..$$$ but at the zippiVet.. it only cost me $52 for stables, office visit and lidocaine. (They gave me a coupon for $25 for my first visit!!) I will definitely be going back in 2 weeks to have them removed and I am anticipating that it will be just as lovely as today's visit! I do not come to this vet anymore for many reasons. I got a puppy last year and visited three times before they diagnosed him with parvovirus. The first time I came in and told them my dog's symptoms they should've immediately tested him. It took three separate vet appointments and they don't even let you come in with the dog. You have to wait in your car anxiously. They then said I had limited time to save my dog and drive across Austin to a separate emergency hospital. I was on the verge of loosing my dog within hours. I am very upset with this clinic and their precautions to illnesses. I would much rather go to a local vet than this chain ever again. read more

We adopted a new rescue pup from Austin Pets Alive (APA!), and received a coupon for a free wellness exam at Zippivet. To me, a coupon included in an APA! adoption folder is an excellent referral. APA! Is serious about animals - they wouldn't send your new furry child just anywhere. Zippivet on South Lamar was a welcome surprise. It's a full service animal hospital with clean, well appointed, modern interiors, and a separate coffee/waiting area. I thought the office was located in the bus out front, but it's not. They have a whole building! The vehicle in the parking lot helps clients know where to turn, as they jet through downtown traffic. The staff is warm, friendly, and the service is excellent (both in-person and online.) It's obvious that everyone who works at this location loves animals, truly enjoys their job, and most importantly - they know their stuff! Many of the staff worked at Animal Trustees of Austin, and have logged thousands of surgery hours. Our appointment started on time, as soon we walked in the door. My dog had a thorough wellness exam - the vet checked everything I was concerned about from puppy's nose to tail. She discovered that puppy had painful, nasty infections in both ears with two kinds of bacteria. Nurses carefully cleaned out her ears (extracting loads of vile, brown goo), and injected a gel into them so I wouldn't have to give her medication at home, as ear drops would be totally impossible with this dog. Puppy also got vaccinations, including those for Bivalent Flu and Leptospirosis. Recently, a friend mentioned that Leptospirosis is on the rise in Austin. (It can transfer to humans.) Since our puppy drinks out of puddles, eats dirt, and loves water, I figured I better get her the Lepto vaccine. The additional $19 was worth my peace of mind. I highly recommend Zippivet on South Lamar. There is nothing 'drive-thru" or "discount" about it. It's everything you could want in an animal hospital ... At a reasonable price. Bonus: If you exit out the back of the parking lot, and turn left by the golf course, you'll see you're only a few blocks away from the walking bridge over Town Lake. read more

Zippivet had Yelp remove my last review because it wasn't descriptive enough: "Just read some of the other reviews, same thing again and again. Charging 500% mark up on necesssry medications, trying to sell you on unnecessary stuff the whole time, providing you contradicting information, forgetting to add important info to the pets files.... Just go somewhere else that values their customers and their pets. This place is the United Airlines of vet care." So I will add more details... I went into zippyvet due to my cat limping. Before asking me any questions, they told me he needed $300 x-rays. They then suggested a medication but wrote us the wrong script (I was able to fix this with them over the phone later). They would not give him his feline lukemia vaccine without doing blood work first (no other vet has ever required this). Ultimately, I purchased some pain pills for them, for 300% upcharge if the online cost because I need it that day. I called them to talk about my experience and they didn't seem to care about the feedback. However, they did take the time to have my initial post removed by Yelp. After reading the response from Zippivet, my issue wasn't addressed. I'll break it down here: A vet recommended Revolution for my kitten. I would rather obtain Revolution from 800Petmeds because it is significantly cheaper than purchasing in the vet's office. Revolution is the exact same medication offered both online or in the office. 800petmeds notifies me Zippivet will not send them the prescription and I'll have to get it myself and email to them. I call Zippivet, ask for the prescription and am told it will be emailed to me in the next day. Four days later I call again and am asked for the weight of my kitten (which I tell them) and am again told I'll have the prescription soon. A week later and I still don't have the prescription. I have the right to obtain Revolution in the most cost effect manor because it has no effect in the health of my pet. Yet Zippivet clearly doesn't want to give me the prescription to which I'm entitled. Now to the original review: The staff at Vippivet are nice and the doctors seem knowledgeable and competent. The issue I have is they make it as difficult as possible to obtain medications from a more affordable pharmacy and try to force you to pay their extremely marked up prices. So far I've requested a prescription twice for my kitten and they still haven't given it to me even though I was there with him less than a month ago. They keep trying to force me to buy a "single dose" from them rather than give me a prescription. They also refuse to send the prescription directly to the pharmacy because they "don't deal with outside pharmacies." This is a clear attempt to force people to buy medication from them at high prices and profit margins. I took my kitten to another vet on Friday and the prescription was sent to 800Petmeds within the hour. That's how a vet should operate. Shady business practices like this cause people to seek other options. I guess Vippivet would rather grab your money than help your pet in a timely manner. Not all of us can afford medication directly from a vet and it's very sad we are treated like this by people claiming to want to help. Zippivet is clearly catering to the wealthy and doesn't care about those who want to protect our pets while saving as much money as possible. The medication Revolution is the same medication no matter where it's purchased. Shameful. read more

I came back to update my review. I've actually been going to ZippiVet since I moved to Austin in 2016. The first experience I had was rough; the vet and I had some tension. But over the last 5 years, I've only had incredibly helpful and kind service from every other employee at ZippiVet I've talked to. When I lived in Riverside, I visited their South location and loved it. Now I'm back North and they're awesome as well. They've helped me take care of my dog for 5 years and I'm extremely grateful for them. read more
