I've been taking my buddy here for years. They know him well and treat him very well despite him being a little scared. He's now a senior dog and they offer a wide variety of services and vaccines. Very clean atmosphere. Caring staff. Reasonable pricing ($$) They offer holistic medicines and answer all of my (sometimes rundant) questions. The vaccine and wellness check took about 10 minutes to do and they Dr. Mouser gave me lots of good, useful information for my fur-baby read more

Staff is completely unorganized and lacking bedside manner. Rude and uneducated about how medication should be used and how. Doctor attempted to charge me for a heartworm test for my dog I did not need after she was 6 months unway in her treatment plan from another facility. STAFF IS RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL OVER TEST MESSAGING SYSTEM AND ARE NOT USED HAVING ANY DIVERSITY IN THEIR CLINIC. RACIST AND RUDE. read more

We started taking our newly adopted cat here about 2 months ago in order to figure why he was having the issues he was having. 4 visits later, blood tests, urinalysis, 2 different doctors came up with the same diagnosis. We were told the exact same thing over and over again that it was just "stress" causing him to be ill. Although, that could definitely be a part of the issue, it was not the main issue. They were prescribing medication to treat only the symptoms and not the problem. Our cat started experiencing side effects from some of the medication, (incontinence etc). We called to ask if the issues we were starting to see with our cat were due to the medication, the person on the line simply said "no, those are not the side effects", when in fact, a simple google search would say the exact opposite. I asked what they were planning to do differently this time if we were to bring him in and the response I got was that they'd perform another urinalysis. No. That was the last straw, I quickly searched up a different vet within the same hour. Our new vet (you can check my previous reviews to identify which) was able to identify our cat's issue on the first visit. Scheduled (PU) surgery for the next day and our cat is no longer experiencing the pain he was going through for so long. Long story short, our pets and I never felt warmly welcomed or appreciated at this office as much as our wallets did. ***In response to the owner below*** It's funny our new vet didn't need ANY expensive diagnostic tests to identify the issue, thinking about it now, it's unfortunate that neither of your veterinarians could do the same. Basic blood work, urinalysis, x-rays were done at Tech Ridge Pet Hospital, nothing accomplished. read more

I've been bringing my Aussies here since we moved into the area roughly 5 years ago--and that 1st visit was a doozie as one of my Aussies was run over in front of me by a construction truck using our culdesac as a quick turnaround...at thectime (new neighborhood) we were the only ones moved in--rushed him to Tech Ridge and they got him on oxygen and pain meds right away...I was freaking out, rude, in shock--every emotion there is, but Dr. Watson just kept a cslm demeanor and explained what he could see. One of his assistants was kind enough to drive me holding my dog in the back of her dog to keep the portable oxygen on to the big vet hospital equipped for internal injuries. He passed a couple days later, but I'll always be indebted to Tech Ridge for going above and beyond the call of duty and taking my ranting at the time. Dr. Watson has since retired and passed, but my experience here with my other older dog--now passed away but had 6 month of liver issues making visits frequent--and now two more pups we've had fixed here and gone for all our shots...the staff is the same minus Dr. Watson and 2 new vets and the care is as great as ever. Currently, we're treating dome skin infection on my 30-mo-old that's really nasty, and again, l9ve and care is what I've been shown and more importantly what my dogs receive. 5 stars goes without question. read more

I've been taking my pets to Tech Ridge Pet Hospital since I moved to Austin in 2016. First Dr. Watson, and now Dr. Thornton and Dr. Mouser have taken wonderful care of my dogs. When our two older dogs passed away they were so caring and empathetic. Now we have two young terriers that are absolute handfuls and the vets and support staff are so patient and helpful. read more

I have been recommending this hospital since we started going there. However, I am so disappointed with their recent care. My cat has a genetic heart disease. He will be on a specific medication for the rest of his life. This was confirmed at his last recheck with them a short time ago. However, Tech Ridge suddenly, with no warning, refused to refill. They insist on him seeing a cardiologist ($600+) to confirm what is already known. Despite being informed by the emergency vet we saw when the problem was discovered, they still refuse to refill. The emergency vet recommends I see another vet, as this is not at all normal or acceptable. Luckily, they refilled it for me because they know he cannot go without. I can not believe that a vet would willingly refuse such an important medication, with absolutely no warning, and ridiculous reason. When I begged them to refill, as I am going out of town and he would be without medication and with a stranger watching him, they still refused. I most likely would have come home to a dead cat. Combine this with their love of over-vaccinating (1 year rabies and distemper?!) And we're out. I liked that they approve of raw feeding, but that mindset clearly doesn't extend to their practical treatments. I have never in my life had a hard time finding a vet but 3 years in Austin and I've had the worst experiences of my life! read more

I have been going to Dr. Watson since March 1996. The most telling thing about him and his practice to me - is that many of the same staff are still there today as were there all those years ago! We recently had to put down our Dandy. He was almost 16. He had terrible dementia and was not keeping any food down. The whole staff was so wonderful, and they made a very difficult day so peaceful for our family and for Dandy's goodbye. They will treat you and your pets like family. read more

Fantastic place! I don't understand all the negative reviews. Came upon this place when I saw their $18 off any service coupon on the H-E-B receipt, which is great. I took my newly adopted girl, Dottie here for her check up and the staff and doctor were very informative, helpful, and really cared about me and my dog. I even got my first check up appt completely free because I adopted her! So amazing of them to do that! Took her back a second time for her other shot and used my coupon. Highly recommended. Very knowledgeable team. read more

I like my routines, and when they're disrupted, all my radars come out and I have to isolate the problem. Granted there are times when I can't do much - like when it involves other people's baggage - but there's no excuse for me to tread in denial and not resolve issues as they happen. I can always go back to entering vodka shot contests. So the past two nights when my cat Mac didn't greet me at the door when I've returned, I knew something was up. He was acting normally otherwise, eating regularly, using the box, and leaping on the bed to sleep. I found an open sore under his tail, and after he stopped hissing at me, I called his vets at Tech Ridge. They said to bring him in the next morning, right before the normal day of surgery appointments started. I think finding a veterinary practice is like finding a family practitioner - I don't dispute how good they are, I just want someone I have a rapport with. The Tech Ridge people like cats, my cats like them, and they're good to their clients, which all works for me. Incidentally, I think 24/7 emergency clinics and the Central Texas Veterinary Specialty Hospital are completely different categories of pet care. So it turns out Mac has a ruptured anal gland, but it sounds worse than it is; they cleaned it, gave him an antibiotic shot, gave me a flushing syringe and home instructions, and he needs to return next week for a follow-up. This morning's visit cost me $116. But I also got my peace-of-mind back. And Mac doesn't mind when those folks lift his tail. read more

The front desk are so rude and unhelpful. Anytime we have arrived for an appointment they ignore you and chat amongst themselves. When you do try to get their attention they act frustrated. So 2 Christmases ago, my dog started making this weird sneezing sound and I was worried(turns out it was reverse sneezing). So I called around a couple of places and they were all booked. I called this place, and the rep on the phone asked me some questions about her symptoms and then said, " It sounds like reverse sneezing. We've been seeing that alot. I know it sounds really scary, but it's normal for dogs to do that around this time of year. I'll be more than happy to book an appt with the doctor for you, but I don't want you to have to come in and pay a fee just for the doctor to tell you that and send you home." I was really impressed by the honesty. I had never been to that place before, but if they are willing to give me great sound advice and looked out for my best interest, this would be the vet for my babies. Here is another situation. Just recently (about 2weeks ago) my baby became sick. Had to take her to the emergency vet on Saturday. By Monday, this vet had called me to ask how she was doing and had made time for me for her follow-up appt. Had a check-up with Dr. Watson and blood work done. Immediately after we left, she started bleeding rectally. Called first thing in the morning and was able to get her in that same day. We still don't know exactly what caused my baby to be sick, but she is doing alot better with the medications. I know that vet visits can get expensive, but this place is very reasonable. I think the cost is average as any other vet, but they will give you honest prices. Dr. Watson even gave me a discount since they had to redo a lab work(due to natural body responses) I work in healthcare and I understand the importance of these tests. Sometimes in humans after extensive lab work, tests, procedures and we still can't find the cause. Imagine how hard it is for these vets to diagnose your baby? As humans we can express our symptoms. Our fur babies only have what us, their owner says. Dr. Watson and the staff are always so welcoming and caring. I can tell Dr. Watson truly cares for animals. read more

Iwe adopted a new cat. Unfortunately Veronica's has a lot of anxiety issues. Consequently when I went to take her to the vet appointment previously, she hid. I was forced to call and cancel. I was very apologetic. Subsequently when I called to re-schedule the appointment, I received a lecture henceforth the vet will be charging me for a missed appointment. When I got there for the appointment, admittedly about 45 minutes early, I was shoved into a exam room, And left there. After about 20 minutes I came out and asked about how long it would be, hoping I would be offered water, and given some assurance that they were aware of my wait, and would hurry accordingly; or that I could run next door to eat since I had missed lunch. I understood that I arrived early. Unfortunately the staff, assumed I was expecting immediate attention decided it was another good time to make a point about how I've missed previous appointment, essentially berating me in a full lobby. I severed our relationship there. Certainly did not have a gay friendly feel in that moment! read more

Visiting the vet is never going to be completely pleasant, let's face it. And it's a doctor so you are always going to spend more money than you want. That said, I have had easy pleasant visits the three times I've been there. Once for a teeth cleaning, then for a growth on my dog (they removed it right away), then for vaccinations. The staff will give you an itemized list of all the things involved in your bill beforehand, so you can see exactly what you are paying for. They had recommended we send in my dog's growth to see if it was precancerous. But, it didn't look abnormal, and cost a lot so we opted out. They didn't give us a guilt trip or anything about it. And finally, I am usually in and out of this place in under half an hour. Today for vaccinations it was 15 minutes! Oh and you can go in for vaccinations and if they've seen you somewhat recently you don't have to pay an exam fee. My dog is never rattled or upset after his visits, so I know it works for him too. read more

Very friendly group of folks that work here. I actually won a certificate to get my cat chipped and vaccinated through a silent auction and was very happy to find out the quality of care that Dr. Watson provides. My cat became an indoor/outdoor cat once our child was born because dang, he is a needy little booger. I couldn't have him laying on the baby while I was nursing. So enter chipping. Our cat doesn't stray far from the backyard but we live near a green belt with lots of ferral cats. Who knows if some vixen ferral cat would lure my sweet kitty away! Well I have a bit of peace of mind after chipping him and it was such an easy process. A quick shot and a magnet with his ID number on it. All done. Vaccinations are always quick and easy here as well, my cat never flinches. I've gone to a couple other clinics and I feel like they charge a very fair, if not cheaper than some other places, rate for their procedures. I always feel better after leaving, knowing my cat isn't going to get some sort of kitty disease by romping around outside. read more

We've been taking our dog, Wylie, here since her was a puppy. The staff is friendly, they know him and us well, they are very thorough and prefer natural methods of treatment. We've been taking our dog and cat here for a couple of years. Our cat is absolutely horrible at the vet, but a tech here, Victoria, actually likes him and is very kind to him. We feel really good about taking him here. We usually see Dr. Mouser and we really appreciate how she explains what's going on and what our next steps will be. Also, on multiple occasions the price was lower than what it could've been. I thought my dog would need X-rays once but they were able to diagnose and treat without them. They didn't charge for a test that they ran in-house once. They researched my options for an ultrasound and referred me to a different clinic that would be cheaper and easier on my pet. The front desk team is also very nice and helpful. And they've had a good system during Covid with curbside service. I'm really glad we found this place. read more

Been going here for a long time. This review is more about "gloria" than the clinic! How Doc keeps this person employed is beyond my comprehension! gloria is rude and condescending! She is bossy and NOT friendly to me at all! I wonder if Doc. will be informed of this?? read more

Absolutely excellent!! 4 yrs ago, I introduced my pup Buddy to Dr Watson. Now, I won't trust Bud with anyone other than Tech Ridge Pet hospital!! Their expertise and care makes me feel as if I brought, now both my fur babies, to my family for service. When you need help they are there! When you need a shot, they are there or to simply drop by for something quick, they accommodate! When you need someone to hold your hand or tell it like it is, they are there!! Love BOTH doctors, Dr Watson and Dr Thornton, and all the staff are great! And Buddy, well he loves jumping on the scale for a grain free treat but forget about a urine sample!! ****I typically never review businesses, but I don't want this happening to someone else's animal**** Went to this place to get my dog's teeth cleaned, he is four years old with strong healthy teeth. (We take care of our pups because we want them to live as long as possible and have a happy, loving life). When we get him from the pet hospital, they tell us they pulled teeth because they were "wiggly" and could possibly create an infection. WITHOUT OUR CONSENT. If there was an infection, it would have been different, but no infection or any sort of symptoms of infection is not an emergency. So our dog got his teeth pulled for no reason. He's healthy and young. I do NOT trust these people - it seems like they are greedy and only care about making a few extra dollars. Disappointing and sad. read more

Recently, I had to bring one of my mom's dogs to a vet. I ended up bringing her to Tech Ridge Pet Hospital. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this ver to anyone. While the staff was friendly and seemed to be attentive, the diagnosis and medication given to my parents dog was very wrong. I brought Princess in for what I thought was a swollen eye. She had an abcessed tooth. The vet, Dr. Watson, told me that Princess would need 10 teeth and 1 incisor removed, totaling to over $800. Before he could remove the teeth, Princess had to complete a round of antibiotics. Dr. Watson also informed us that the infection would lead to a hole in Princess face and a hole in her noise. My mom and dad were very alarmed by this diagnosis, as Princess had just been to a vet in Louisiana in November to get spaded. The Louisiana vet did not mention any of this. Though, Dr. Watson was very adamant about his diagnosis and continued to mention how uncomfortable Princess was with the teeth. My mom and dad could not afford the $800+ bill to remove Princess's teeth. They took Princess back to Louisiana to have her euthanized. They did not believe letting her live in so much pain, as described my Dr. Watson. At the vet in Louisiana, my parents were informed that Dr. Watson should have not only removed the infected teeth at the visit with him, but also it was not 10 teeth, but only 2 teeth (for $130) that should be removed. Removing these 2 teeth would resolve the whole problem...no holes in her face or nose and no excuriating pain. Also, the antibiotic Dr. Watson prescribed was not a strong enough dosage for Princess. I am very disappointed with this service. Not only did Tech Ridge Hospital waste my time with a mis diagnosis, but they also left Princess in more pain for a couple of days. The procedure to resolve the issue was simple and inexpensive. I feel like Dr. Watson was only trying to get money out of us. read more

I had to put my 17 year old dachshund down two Decembers ago. She was my first dog and it was very hard for my family and me. We called them and they scheduled us an appointment the day of. They were helpful, but what I didn't understand was they charged us $35 for an initial check up with the vet. Why would a dog need a check up 15 minutes before she enters the pearly gates? I guess its protocol for a first (and last) time patient. As much as we wanted to, we couldn't keep her ashes in a little urn since it is rather expensive to have an individual cremation. We instead chose to have her little paw prints saved. About three weeks after she was put down, they sent us a little piece of paper with two ink paw prints. $100. I guess the whole experience left a sour taste in my mouth. I wouldn't put another dog down here, or bring any of my living ones. RIP little Raisin. We love you. read more

I am sure the people are very nice here usually... maybe the lady I spoke to on the phone doesn't know how to relate to a worried sick owner, or maybe she is just not that nice. I can't tell you that, but I can tell you that she made me feel like a terrible owner. I was calling around pricing places in my area because it can be very expensive seeing a vet and I can't afford the clinic closest to me. I told her what happened and why I was calling and she, in a very nice tone replied, "That's why I don't have a dog. If I can't afford care, then why get one?" She could have only been trying to converse, as a person answering phones should, but it felt like judgement to me. My wonderful dogs have a dog trainer as a mother, a soft warm place to sleep, yummy food to eat, treats and toys of their choosing. They will never go hungry, they will never be bored, they will never be cast out of my heart or home, they will ALWAYS be loved. Maybe I am being overly sensitive. read more

Brought our kitten here to get vaccinations and soft paws. The receptionists are nice enough but the vet tech kept trying to act like I was a bad pet owner for putting soft paws on the kitten. She droned on with passive aggressive remarks throughout the appointment. At the same time that the tech was acting like I was crazy for applying the $20 soft paws to avoid being scratched, the actual vet was pushing a $75 blood test because of the dangers of cat-scratch fever. Honestly, between the two of them, I couldn't wait to leave. When the office contacted me later for feedback, I gave it to them and rather than maybe believing me, taking my comments to heart, and actually dealing with the staff member, they were dismissive and implied that I misread the situation and that the staff was just being thorough. Do yourself a favor, find some place else. I did. read more

I took my 5 year old cat in for a checkup and her annual shots couple of weeks ago. Instead of simply recommending what was appropriate for a young, healthy cat who would be spending some time outside, the tech and vet tried to sell me on a topical dewormer, topical heartworm protectant, gluten free food, and supplements. The only reasonable recommendation they made was for a FeLV vaccine, which is standard for outdoor cats. In the end, they ignored basic things such as a fairly dramatic weight change and never even took her temperature. I went home with 5 useless advertisements, and my cat went through all the stress of a vet visit for nothing. I will say that the reception ladies were very nice, and by far the best part of my experience here. If you want expensive homeopathy for your pet and lots of things you don't need, this is probably the place to go. If instead you are looking for a good vet that follows established practices and doesn't recommend nonsense, don't waste your time here! read more

I have been bringing my dogs since they were puppies, to Tech Ridge Hospital since it was Braker Lane Animal Clinic, they are 11 years old now! They have always been wonderful with me and my 2 Maltese. Dr Watson saved one of their lives, when he was 4 or 5, with an early diagnosis of a disease that is VERY rare in Maltese. Dr Thornton is also super, and Dr Lewis just did a very complicated surgery on our third addition to our family, a rescued Maltese whose little ear canal had to be removed due to chronic, untreated infections she suffered from at a puppy mill. I have taken my cats to Tech Ridge Pet Hospital since 2002 when they were Braker Lane Animal Clinic. In the course of 9 years, I've had three cats, and all have had great treatment at this vet. LIKES: -They've come a long way from the first few years I went there. The office staff used to be a little snotty but now they are very sweet. -I really like Dr. Thornton. I feel like her heart is right there with mine and she wants to take care of my cats just like she would take care of her own. If I'm not able to afford something, she tells me if there's something else that we can do that is cheaper. -A couple of times in the past 9 years, I haven't been able to pay my entire bill up front. For example, last time I was there, it was to get my cat a check up and a rabies vaccine. Turns out my cat was really sick but she was faking me out! Lab work was required and it cost me several hundred dollars more than the office visit and vaccine I was expecting. The office manager let me pay some right then and I left a check for the difference to be cashed at a later time. They don't like doing this, but I appreciate that they let me so that I can give my cat the care she needs. -For a small fee, they let me drop off my cat in the morning and pick her up after work. That way I don't have to take time off of work and my cat can still get her checkups. DISLIKES: -They are further from my apartment than I'd like. -They seem a bit expensive, but I haven't shopped around so they could be cheap for all I know. Vet care is expensive period. It's like Target - I always end up spending WAY more than I expected. I think the name "pet hospital" is a bit of a misnomer. It's my understanding that they only do routine visits and surgeries, not emergency services which is what I think of when I hear 'hospital.' I could be wrong on this. I've never been to another vet in Austin, but since my experiences with Tech Ridge Pet Hospital have become more positive over the last 9 years, I would recommend them. read more

Likes: When our little dog became critically ill, they were very compassionate. He ended up needing to be put to sleep, which was extremely emotional and traumatic for me (it happened really fast). They were very kind and sympathetic and did send a nice note signed by the entire staff later that week. Dr. Watson has great bedside manner with the pets and owners. Dislikes: The routine visits can seem a bit pricey and I have encountered a bit of judgement at appointments from the techs (not the vet). Passive aggressive comments like, "Geez, his nails are way too long. That's really bad for him. His breath smells. Have you cleaned his teeth lately?" etc. Perhaps they are trying for add-ons but there is a better way to go about it. I'd rather them just politely say, "It sure is hard to trim nails on these little squirmy dogs. If you ever want us to do so, it's $$." I'd be more inclined to have them do it right then. read more
