As a child, I grew up with a herd of cats and dogs, so I could be the ultimate fur mom except that, as an adult, I am allergic to cats and dogs with cat-like hair. However, this minor flaw does not keep me from shopping for friends with fur babies. Specifically, I was looking for a dog toy as a gift as Mud Puppies came highly recommended. Mud Puppies is located on Highway 620 in a shopping strip mall. The front desk staff greeted me warm and friendly. I was immediately offered assistance and pointed to an assortment of dog toys. In fact, I did not know that there were so many dog toys. In fact, momentarily I was paralyzed with fear of making a decision. After exploring some possibilities, I decided to defer my decision until I looked at one more place. Mud puppies also offers Playcare, just like day care for children but for dogs in addition to pet grooming and boarding. The team works with each dog's unique personality. How can you not LOVE that smile! We typically use another groomer but we were looking for a spot that could take our dog in ASAP as we had pictures coming up and our dog looked liked a mess. I called Mud Puppies and they were able to take our pup the very next morning. We got her a wash, brush and nails for $40. I dropped her off in the AM and was ready for pickup a couple hours later. While our dog didn't saying anything bad or good, she looked fantastic and wasn't crying her eyes out when we picked her up so I consider that a win! All I wanted was a nail clipping for my two dogs. Came in on a Saturday late morning after calling to see if they took walk ins, which they did. When I got there, they didn't even greet me. The woman in the hideous beanie and Crocks never acknowledged me. She even told the other lady at the desk "Not another nail trim" when a second person walked in for the same service. I took my Shih Tzu to Mudd Puppies off of Palmer multiple times and was extremely pleased with the service. Unfortunately my last visit wasn't pleasant. My dog's left eye was accidentally scratched by the groomer's scissors. When I brought it up to the owner he made it very clear his groomer didn't do it. I contacted them the day after the grooming and informed them he was going to the vet due to his pain. No one took responsibility or discussed my concern. The owner made it clear he wasn't paying for anything. He wanted to speak to the vet to confirm that his eye was scratched. So, I was being questioned and the arrogance of the owner to resolve this situation wasn't acceptable. The vet was confused to why he needed to talk to her. There was visible proof. The vet was only going to discuss the diagnosis and treatment plan with me. This matter could had been resolved peacefully. A credit to doggie daycare or a portion off my next two visits. The vet bill was $235. Accidents happen but the way he questioned me was disappointing. I now have two dogs and they both go to daycare a couple days a week. Lost my grooming business, doggie daycare visits, and referrals. I want to support local business but not when I am treated like an option. read more

We take our maltipoo, lemon, to get a full groom at Mudpuppies on 620, about once every other month. They are Covid friendly. Ask for you to either wait in your car for pick up/drop off. You can call them once you're there and will grab the pup(s) from you. Their prices are standard and will vary depending on how much work the groomer has to do to clean up your pup. For my small maltipoo and a full groomed + haircut we pay about $70 after tip. Sometimes it's only $40 if it's just a groom with minimal trimming. Lemon is very hyper, and gets a lot of tangles in her hair. Our groomer,Claire, always treats lemon as if it were her own dog. She makes her comfortable, allows her to run around to get energy out, and always puts a pretty bandana on her when she's done. The grooming process can sometimes be a bit too long(5+ hours), and they put your pup in a kennel with a dryer so they get a blow out. That is one reason why i deducted a star. Not all dogs can handle that type of environment. My younger dog Tyson has anxiety and got sick when we brought him there for the first time. We have to use a mobile groomer for him! I started at MudPuppies years ago with a rowdy foster dog. They did a great job matching her in play groups. When my joints got bad they were kind to help me with an easy walk harness. This is a home-away-from-home for my dog to ensure she stays safe and is well cared for while I'm at work. The staff is so professional and truly care about my dog. The facility is clean and organized. My dog is happy when I drop her off and she is happy when I pick her up! They connected me with a trainer that trains my dog while in the facility. The staff follows the trainers directions to ensure the training is reenforced throughout the day. It's truly amazing how much they care. Their in house groomer is such a convenience for me! I was getting my dog groomed at a totally different salon but my stylist ended up leaving and I decided to follow her...that's what brought me to Mud Puppies! At my pup's prior salon, dogs roamed "free" aka weren't placed in kennels while waiting, or after they were done. You could also see the entire space when you entered. Mud Puppies on the other hand, is more of a "classic" salon where dogs are in kennels, and you can't see any of the action when you enter - just the front desk. I was hesitant about going to a salon like this since I was so used to a totally different method, but Mud Puppies is awesome!! The front desk ladies are super sweet, and there's always a pup behind it to greet you! You get a reminder call the day before your appointment (awesome!!) so you won't forget. There's some fun stuff you can buy for your pup in the front as well - treats, toys, etc. But time to rave about the most important part: my groomer Claire is AMAZING. She's the sweetest, and listens to me about the things I want for my pup. She makes sure to take the best care of him and gets him groomed in a timely manner (3 hours). My pup tends to get anxious and therefore really thirsty and Claire makes sure he has water in the kennel. My pup always comes home looking absolutely adorable!!! I highly recommend Mud Puppies. As soon as my pup got all her required vaccinations I started taking her to playcare at Mud Puppies once a week. One of us can typically work from home so we basically bring our newest family member Nala here to get socialized. When Nala jumps out of the car and realizes she is at Mud Puppies she cannot contain her excitement. Not only her tail wags but her whole body sways back and forth. The first visit is a few dollars more as they monitor your pup to make sure they are a good fit and discover their temperament. They put dogs into play groups with like temperaments which means your pet has an enjoyable experience. I cannot speak for weekends but on weekdays playtime starts at 9am and approximately hourly they rotate the groups between relax time in their own kennel and playtime in the play rooms. They do not give a report card like some playcares do but if I ask how she did the staff without hesitation can share how many times she played, how many dogs she played with and how she did that day. Mud Puppies is active on FaceBook, Instagram and Twitter. They post a picture of your pup on their first visit welcoming them to MP family and note something about them like they are shy or like to play. After trying to board my beloved pound puppy at his usual spot (our vet's office) and finding out they didn't have spot available, I freaked the freak out!!! Where is my "only son" going to stay while I'm partying out in Vegas? The vet actually gave me a few recommendations. I was still hesitant, until I contacted the only other person I know that loves her dog as I do mine (wink @AmyD) and she said "Mud Puppies!" I called and they had a slot! Since it was Elvis' first visit, my husband and I decided to have Mud Puppies keep him in his own kennel (i.e., not in general population with other dogs with similar temperament). I'm sure all of the dogs at MPs are well-behaved and social, but I would prefer to try a short playmate session before leaving him for an entire week - which I will try soon (URTF). I called MPs the day after leaving to check on him. The very enthusiastic woman who answered the phone immediately went into a diatribe saying how super duper lovable (lovebug) and wonderful Elvis was (#HumbleBrag = ProudMama) and said he was doing great and went poopoo. ;-) The staff are obviously true dog lovers! Even if you decide to private kennel your dog, MP peeps walk him/her in an outdoor area several times a day and give well received belly rubs. They even gave Elvis his special "treat" (aka a red Kong bone with a snausage in it = his desert) after every evening meal which is customary at home. Wonderful! Spectacular! Awesome! Elvis came home and acted as if he'd never been gone. Yes, a little more (ok, a lot) happier to see us, but none of the mopey head, guilt behavior we usually get for a day or two after a trip. I've been to Mud Puppies a handful of times in the past, but it's been a while since we've boarded here. The customer service at my last experience was great. I have one dog that is a handful and they were fantastic about handling her appropriately. She's really fearful and anxious. I was apprehensive about her stay there (though she's been there before). I talked with the lady at the front desk (Kelly I think) about her and she told me that they would do what they could with her and seemed to understand the importance of not pushing her at all, which is the correct way to deal with her. I even got a call about three hours after I dropped her off saying that she was already settling in and that was a huge relief. I feel the need to mention that they even gave me a hand wrangling the 2 month old infant and the two dogs. I was so appreciative of the way the drop off went, a crazy dog and an infant can really make you edgy but it didn't go that way at all. Thanks guys! read more

As an employee I got to see the way that the owner's care so deeply about their business - and above all, the animals - throughout my experience behind the scenes. I witnessed the way they worked together, loved the animals, and the highest care. I have worked in over 5 kennels around town over the years and this was and is my favorite. My experiences made me feel confident to have my last dogs go there for everything - we have used them for grooming, playcare, boarding, and the dog wash. Today it has been over 5 years since I worked there but when I got my new pup I immediately knew I would trust Mud Puppies with him. I love the idea of this place. A self service dog wash?! awesome! I loved the facility, I loved the staff. The price is a smidge high in my opinion and I didn't like the shampoo at all, it really didn't do all that great of a job on my two very hairy Australian Shepherds. BUT! I CAN NOT wash my dogs at home. If you were there when I washed and blow dried my dogs at Mud Puppies just a week ago, you would understand. I felt horribly guilty leaving it like I did, but it's what I paid for. Other people cleaning up the massive amount of HAIR EVERYWHERE! And I live in an apartment, no yard to wash the dogs in. haha. My dog is a big baby and I don't think she'll ever be excited about us leaving her anywhere, but the last time I brought her into Mud Puppies, she recognized one of the workers and ran over to him crying. She's a timid dog and it takes her awhile to warm up to people. Once she gets to know someone, she will get very excited to see them and start whimpering. When I saw this, I felt so much better about dropping her off. I wouldn't recommend doing this, but my boyfriend and I were going to be traveling to Houston and were planning on bringing my dog with us. At the last minute, we found out some more details about our plans that meant my dog would be alone for several hours. I decided to give Mud Puppies a call just to see if they could board her and then figure out what to do from there. I called a 6:40 PM on a Monday (they close at 7) and asked if I could board her the next day for 2 nights. They were not only able to get her in, but they didn't even seem annoyed with the last minute-ness of it all. I have separation anxiety and I call these poor people every day to check up on my dog. They are always really nice about it, though I will say they don't always go into a great amount of detail. It's usually "she's playing" or "she just got done playing." They may just be busy. I don't know if they read these reviews, but it would be really cool if they gave out report cards. I'm always curious about whether my dog made a new friend or if she's just playing with the other dogs, but not really making a bond with any particular one (which is typical). I also always wonder whether or not she ate okay because she is the pickiest eater I have ever seen. When I picked my dog up after her first playcare there, I was worried about how she would smell after playing with a bunch of dogs all day. To my surprise, she actually smelled good and she wasn't given a bath or anything. When you walk into Mud Puppies, you can smell some kind of soap or dog shampoo or something. That is what my dog comes back smelling like. One other suggestion I have for Mud Puppies is to get cameras for the play areas so those of us with no lives can watch our pups play. I brought my dog here a handful of times for grooming, things were great. But this last time, a few days later I noticed him scratching. I then noticed dried blood on his neck, and the underside of his ears were chopped. His ears have been knicked before with clippers, I get it, it happens. These were deep gashes. If they had said something when we picked him up, pointed it out, explained what happened, apologized, ok great. People make mistakes. I wouldn't take him back, but I wouldn't be posting a negative review. But they said nothing. I called the store a few days later. Got a call back from Kelly (the manager), who said she spoke with the stylist and nothing seemed out of place that day. No apology, no acknowledgement that a mistake was made. But I would imagine there was a lot of blood when it happened, so the stylist saying she didn't notice is bs. And the manager not being willing to make things right is terrible. read more

I've been coming here since my dog was a pup. No complaints as the service has been good through the years with friendly staff and good products and clean facilities, we'll clean until I wash my dog. The water temperature is always warm, and the tub is a standard tub that is elevated. No worries, there's a ramp for the pooch to use, and hooks on the wall to tie the dog if he isn't trained. The blow dryer is a nice touch but it does blow hair and dandruff around the room. Honestly, the only negative thing I could say about Mud Puppies is that they only have two tubs. The folks at Mud Puppies just did an awesome grooming for my 2 Newfoundland Dogs. For the last year I've tried getting an appointment to have them groomed at other places. I don't know exactly why but I seemed to be getting the run around and got the sense that they really were not interested in really grooming them. I think the size of the breed of dog that I have was not something that they wanted to deal with when they can process a lot more smaller breeds in the same time as just 1 of my Newfs. What was really cool at Mud puppies was their head groomer "Linsey" was not put off with the size of our dogs and genuinely cared about giving them a great grooming. We made a phone appointment for our Chow Chow on Saturday, and on Monday morning, we received a voice-mail simply instructing us to "Call back."
