Let me start by disclaiming that I hate paying someone else in order for ME to bathe my own hairy monsters. But sometimes it's necessary when the weather is too cold outside. And while it is also possible to pay someone else to do it (and they offer that service here as well), it is 4 times more expensive. We paid only $15 to use their tubs, which is fairly cheap for what should have been a hassle-free bath for our woolly mammoths (and a full groom would have been around $60). But it was a huge hassle as it turned out. I have 2 90lb-ish dogs. One is super slobbery and the other super slobbered on. Both have long thick hair and are high maintenance, grooming-wise. They were waaay overdue for damage control. After checking MP's website and calling for details, I thought it would be easy to try it. According to website, for a self-serve bath, they offer shampoo (and flea shampoo), conditioner, brushes, towels, nail trimmers, ear and teeth wipes, and a blow dryer. Just in case, I brought my own nail trimmers and grooming scissors. First off, there was a wait which was not soo unpleasant cause we got to watch the playcare area with all the funny dogs in it and the groomer came out and visited with my dogs and gave me some tips on keeping the wool down (which is the reason for they get 2 stars). But once we got into the bathing area, everything went straight to hell. This was our maiden voyage here and they knew that. The lady brought me and the beast back and explained only part of the process, which was the shampoo and here's some brushes. I had to ask for nail trimmers (wanted to use theirs cause mine are dull but ended up with mine anyway). No ear or dental wipes available and the kicker is they leave you alone and if you have a question whatta ya gonna do??? Leave your terrified pooch in the noose and go hunt someone down?? I know some of my disappointment may have been colored by the fact that my dogs completely freaked being here. The areas were really high and they just wanted to jump off and there was alot of noise and distractions (blowers and boarding dogs barking). So I therefore wanted to hurry up and not having all the tools handy was a problem. Finally get my dog in the tub and go to shampoo his gabillion hairs and the shampoo is just like water. I even did have to hunt someone down and ask if I had the right stuff? And they said yes, it just doesn't suds up. WTF? How do I know where I've cleaned and then how do I know if I've rinsed it all off? My dogs have super thick hair so I burned thru 2 bottles of this cleaning water on just one (had to hunt someone down for 2nd bottle and believe me, I don't like leaving my scared dog noosed that high off the ground). My hubby in the next stall had to use the dial hand soap on our other dog when he ran out of said "shampoo". There was another lady there bathing her massive, thick haired husky and she asked was that our first time? Cause, she said she'd been before but things had changed, namely the shampoo and she was not happy either. My dogs do smell a little better but from now on I will rely on my own supplies at my own house. I just hope the rinse off they had yesterday gets them thru the cold months! read more

I've researched many self service dog washes. I always think it's a great idea but never go. One Friday afternoon I had to go. Samuel had so much fun but got rowdy messy at the dog park that day. I was dreading going home and giving him a bath. It's so messy and uncomfortable for both of us. As I was driving home I decided I needed to go check out this place. I walked in and was greeted by this friendly lady. I told her it was my first time in and wanted to know about the self service dog wash. She explained everything to me, had me fill out some paper work and paid out. I ran out to my car to get Samuel and she walked us into the washing area. She showed me everything I could use. They provide shampoo, flea shampoo and a leave in condition. There's brushes to use, towels and professional blow dryer. It's great! They have everything I need there, I was comfortable and Samuel seemed to do much better there than at home. I don't know why I never went to a self service sooner! I was inquiring about the nail trim and she asked if I just wanted to get it done that day and said why not! The lady at the desk was super helpful and nice. This is a go to place when I'm giving Samuel a bath. read more

Let me just say this review is based solely on the customer service and my experience with Mud Puppies About two weeks ago, I called Mud Puppies to get a feel for their prices, personality, overall professionalism. Overall I was happy enough to go ahead an book a grooming for my two schnauzers. Conversation Over the Phone: Price Point: $40-$50 Explained: One dog is heavily matted. Price given to me - $50 with a possible $10 extra cost. Second dog a little matting going on - $40. I took my boys in today for their grooming. They were inspected by their assigned groomer. She explained to me that Oliver is heavily matted and will have an extra charge (which I already knew). Otis, my other baby is matted as well and will also have an extra charge to brush out his skirt and removed the matting. Umm...Wait a minute. I explained to the groomer the prices that I was told over the phone. She explained the staff members who answer the phone really don't know what the prices are. Prices are set after inspection. Hmm...I would probably let the staff members know they shouldn't be quoting prices. So I proceed to ask about costs. In Person: Price Point: Schnauzers are always $60. Oliver's extra charge $15. Otis' extra charge $10. WHAT! I went from paying around $90 total to $140 - $150? All the price points I was given over the phone were completely wrong. Unfortunately I decided to leave, taking my boys with me. A "We'll honor the prices you were given over the phone" was not offered. I'm not one to look for any discounts, but if I'm quoted a price, I expect to pay that price instead of driving out there to be told something completely different. I will have to continue to take the boys to their groomers in Corpus when I visit home. Bummed... read more

This place is possibly the best thing that has ever happened to me and my pups, Ralph and Pete. I work at home, so I was looking for a place to take them on days where I had quite a bit to accomplish. This place is it! The staff is fantastic, especially Sally and Heather (one of the groomers). You can come here and give your dog a bath using their facilities, you can board them, get them groomed - but the best part is the PLAYCARE! My pup Pete is a bit on the hyperactive side, and everyone here was willing to work with Pete and try and be understanding of his terrier behavior. They worked on training him as well. He goes to playcare 3 times a week and is happily exhausted at the end of each play day. Thank god for Mud Puppies, otherwise I would never get any work done! The grooming here is also fantastic. Heather does an amazing job with my boys, who are Lakeland Terriers. She is the first groomer in town to do the correct style cut on them, and they always look fantastic. Plus she also has studied animal behavior and knows how to handle different dog personalities. read more

Before our dog passed away a few months ago (RIP Bear, we miss you buddy), we used Mud Puppies several times for boarding. The facilities are much nicer and the staff gives a lot more attention than the usual vet boarding. They always knew our dog's name on-sight when we came in to use the self-service dog wash. Bear was a chow chow and trying to bath him at home was near impossible. It's very hard to get water through all that thick fur but Mud Puppie's high-pressure spray heads made it much easier. Their tubs and blowdry are are at waist level so you're not breaking your back while giving your dog a bath. We never used the grooming service but the boarding and self-service wash are top notch. Excellent staff and facility. We'll definitely be back there when we eventually find the next four-legged member of the family. read more

Dropped in today to see their selection of leases, collars and toys. Bought the cutes pink collar for my little Peke. The leash and collar section is limited but nice as well as their toys. They also have some tasty looking treats for your four legged children. One of the owner was working the front desk, he was super friendly and he put up with me talking a mile a minute (morning Latte was kicking in big time). I haven't used the "wash" section of this store in awhile. It is just as much work to load the dogs into the car, drive them to the location, deal with them freaking out over the sounds and smells of the other dogs and not to mention I have to take my own towels since theirs are paper thin and their dryers scare the hell out of my Min pin. I would recommend taking mid to big size dogs here if you have a bad back and or a well trained dog. Its easier on your back since they can walk up a ramp into a tub that is waist high (no bending) and they have groomers that can come out and help with nail trimming if you need it (cost a little extra). If your dog is more laid back the new sites and sounds wont excite him/her to much then this is good place to go. Take your own towels and specialty shampoo if you have a preference. Their selection of soaps are limited and I suspect they are lower end and possibly watered down (not sure but they look it)! read more

Claire performed a most wonderful grooming on our beagle dachshund mix dog, Schotzie. There was no shedding in our home due to the great brush out after bath. Schotzie's breath was smooches clean due to teeth brushing. I highly recommend Mud Puppies on hwy 620. read more

At first I hesitated to take my puppy there since there are a few negative comments. After I carefully reviewed those negative comments, I concluded those were just isolated incidents. I took my puppy there for boarding. He stayed there for 4 days. There were regular facebook updates with photos. My puppy made a few new friends. Mud Puppies is our go-to for everything for our lab, aside from veterinary care. The staff here is friendly, professional, and clearly love dogs. We take her to Mud Puppies about once a week for playcare, particularly when work gets busy. At playcare, dogs get to spend the day playing with other dogs in a supervised setting. Not only does this provide stimulation and something to do for our dog during the day, but it also encourages socialization with other dogs. It's also nice not to have to rush home from work if the day gets busy (playcare pickup is by 7pm). We also board her here when we go on vacation. They do a great job working with our dog's diet (she's on a raw diet), which requires them to defrost meat throughout the week and she gets to play with other dogs instead of spending a week cooped up in a small cage the entire time. They're also a full service grooming shop, and offer a la carte grooming services, whether you drop your dog off specifically to be groomed or while your dog is being boarded/at playcare. Lastly, we've done several training classes here. They're actually offered by Sublime Canines, an outside company, but they're held at Mud Puppies. If you're in the market for training, I can't recommend Sublime Canines enough. read more

Where to begin: I spoke to Kelley on Tuesday and asked a ton of questions about playcare and boarding. She patiently answered all of my questions and made an appointment for today for our pup's assessment. A bit of background - our rescue pup was 2 years when we got her and had a sad past; she was afraid of everything and other dogs. I was concerned about even putting her in a playcare group but we needed to board her in September so I knew I had to start somewhere. This morning: Kelley met me outside the front door and sat on the ground and treated our pup like she was her own. She then scooped her up and inside she went. Kelley assured me she would call if any issues and invited me to call anytime. I left feeling good! We picked Allie up at 4 pm and when we were told how well she did, my husband and I were speechless! Surely they had to be talking about a different dog! The lady that told us about the day was so upbeat and sweet and needless to say, we were thrilled! We will be bringing our pup back for 1 x week playcare and definitely boarding. If I could give this place a zero based on their customer service I would. For as many years as we have been here for nail trims, I think now it's safe to say WE ARE NOT COMING BACK. I had already warned the staff how difficult he was when getting his nails trimmed (did front desk tell them? No..she only asked for a two-person assist) and when the time came, I wanted to be there with my dog LIKE I ALWAYS HAVE (because I support him) and for whoever the hell the nail trimmer was, told me "it's better for dogs to not see their owners"... that may be true but you do not know my dog and as stated above... I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN WITH HIM HERE AT THIS FACILITY WITH ZERO PROBLEM. Secondly, I asked for a nail trim and told her my reasoning, and she straight up gave me a face and told me no (way to be an active listener). Being the person I am I held my tongue and said in a nice tone "okay, whatever works for you, let's try it!" So I stepped out and seconds later, she comes out and by verbatim says, "No, your dog bites, he fights, and he's aggressive, we won't do it and you need to take off this slit knot." No apology, no nothing. Literally walks away. Of course I apologized. Isn't that the reason why I had told you guys earlier how difficult he was? A damn shame because this is the only place we have ever taken my dog. Y'all could have asked me how they usually cut his nails but nah.. So not only is your staff completely and utterly rude, but they make customers feel like they are doing something wrong. They walk away like a parent scolding a child. You made me feel like the worst dog parent, and you made it seem like my dog was the most aggressive dog in the world and that is NOT OKAY. You bet your ass I will leave negative remarks about this place. You bet your ass I have more shit to say but I'll hold my tongue once again. Thank you mud-puppies for your service. This place seems to be most popular for its grooming and washing service, but people need to know that mud puppies is a great place for dog playcare and boarding too. I just boarded my 6 month old Australian Shepherd puppy here for a week over the holiday and when I picked her up it was obvious she had a fantastic time and was lovingly cared for. I was very nervous about leaving my puppy for the first time, but Kelley and the mud puppies staff were obviously very serious about properly taking care of my dog which put my worries at ease. I also arranged to have her washed before I picked her up and I have to say that she smelled amazing and was so soft! I am so happy to have found this place. I will certainly be trusting them with my baby in the future! read more

Ginormous Malamute! Hates bath time, freaks out! Here it's just easier and they are also kind enough to allow us to be able to move the blower around so that we don't have to have half a semi dry dog to tote around... They are kind and helpful. I only wish they had frequent buyer's card or maybe if you were able to bring your own things the rate might be cheaper especially since we take our dog out the the creek often enough to play and then need a quick wash. read more

Four stars already and we're not even scheduled for orientation day until tomorrow. I've used several doggy day cares in this area in the past looking for the best fit for my dog (epileptic) and for me (distance, price, hours). We love PetSmart in the 1890 Ranch but it's not remotely convenient when heading into town during morning rush hour. Happy Tails on Cypress Creek is super convenient and priced right, BUT the complete and utter lack of communication from the folks who work with the dogs and obvious lack of flips given by the front desk staff were really scary given one of my boys has a health condition. Enter Mud Puppies! I walked in off the street and was greeted by one of the owners, Kelley. She stopped everything she was doing (& it was busy!!!) to give me an extremely detailed tour of the ENTIRE facility. (Not just the "pretty" areas) The amount of thought & care they put into making sure day camp works for your pup's personality really came through. Even though they're priced a bit higher (which is definitely a consideration for us!), I couldn't have custom ordered a place I felt more comfortable taking my boys. We are looking forward to visiting Mud Puppies 2-4x a month and I can't wait to hear how their first day goes tomorrow! read more

Just wanted to say how much we love MUD PUPPIES! We have 2 schnauzers, which is a handful, to say the least, but not to the AWESOME staff at Mud Puppies. When we bring our girls in for playcare and/or grooming, they always greet our dogs by their names and our dogs act more excited to see them than us! They are always so nice and crazy accommodating. I always recommend this place to all of our friends with furry kids. The groomers are especially great, our dog Bella is a rescue and is very temperamental. But, no matter what, the groom on her is incredible and not once have they complained about it. I appreciate that a lot. She also looks pretty damn cute afterwards. If you are looking for a place to take your dog believe the great hype about this place! I don't know what we would do without them. ONE STAR is one too many for our experience with Mud Puppies!!! Let's just say I am not pleased at all with Mud Puppies, and will never take our dogs back for grooming. We decided to try Mud Puppies grooming service for both our Pug & Lab, and couldn't be more dissatisfied with the quality of grooming and care that they took of our animals. As we waited for them to bring our dogs up for pickup, we paid for our services and left a 25% tip for the groomer...Well that was a huge mistake. First of all our Lab's chest and neck were left more than damp, and both dogs still seemed to have loose hair all over their coats. We got our animals home, only to see BLOOD all over our floors. The groomer pretty much cut HALF of our Pug's nail off which explained all of the blood, so I called Mud Puppies to alert them of the issue, and they claim that the groomer didn't know / realize that she cut his poor nail that far back and that if they did they would have used "Kwik Stop" to stop the bleeding. This is complete BS as they did try to stop the bleeding with "kwik stop" cause it was hanging on his paw. After about 1 hour of trying to get the bleeding to stop, we inspected both dogs other nails and found that they were not clipped. This was more than likely due to the groomer screwing up on my Pug's paw and him not letting them proceed with the rest of his nails. Our Lab's paws were not clipped properly either. Let me just say that we can understand that accidents happen, but when they are covered up, we are lied to, and not informed properly...Well that is just BAD BUSINESS...PERIOD. So not only was our dog injured by Mud Puppies, they hide the fact, they lied about it, didn't dry our other dog completely, trim any of our dogs other nails, and to top it off they charged full price and accepted a 25% tip. We will not being going back to Mud Puppies, and will make sure that every pet owner that we know is told about our experience. We hope that this review helps keep your pets safe. read more

I've waited almost a year to post this. My dog sustained a torn ACL while in the care of the grooming staff last November. Although I'm an understanding person who knows that accidents happen, I was never called after they noticed my dog no longer bearing weight on one of his legs. When I went to pick up my dogs, they brought one one a leash and gave me the other one in my hand, and they still did not mention anything. I thought it was odd but didn't think anything of it. I put him down and he wouldn't walk. I ended up going back inside to talk to the groomer, and it's like the office had disappeared, which I thought was weird, since I was parked in front, and I was obviously having an issue with my pup: I won't post the name of the groomer, but let me tell you, she put me through the ringer during an already difficult time. She asked us to go to her own vet for a second opinion (of course this happened over the thanksgiving holiday), after we had received the first diagnosis of the torn ligament. We went to "her" vet. He told us he same and referred us to the same place the first vet did. During our visit, it was apparent that the vet had been given the full story. He commented that "yeah, sometimes those techs mean well, but they're back there making 12 bucks an hour, and well...". Keep in mind no one ever offered an explanation during any of our calls with multiple staff members. When I asked the groomer about having liability insurance to cover the cost, she said she didn't have any, and neither did Mud Puppies. The owner did later tell me he had insurance, but with a high deductible; the groomer had lied to me. Although both vets referred us to the same place, MP didn't want to pick up the tab at a specialist. They eventually did, and I will give you that. The experience was traumatic for our family, as well as our dogs. He had to have surgery, and the recovery while keeping dogs separated and having to walk 5-6 times a day was also a challenge. Overall our situation was handled very poorly. I appreciate the fact MP agreed to cover the surgery and kept their word, but as you can see, it was a bumpy road. I will commend the owner for listening to my multiple suggestions I had for the processes within his facility. Btw- we were not reimbursed for the cost of the grooming for our dogs, and came out of pocket for one of our specialist visits. Do your homework when you pick a groomer! read more

I have been coming here for a year now. I would normally give 5 stars however the last couple of visit I've noticed my dog in the cage a lot lately. I finally asked the schedule and they are only out for 30 min then in the cage for 1-1.5 hours. My dog is on high octane when she comes home. I blame this on myself bc I should have asked a year ago but being a new pet owner you live and learn. I could Leave her at home if I wanted to crate her. read more
