We have had dogs our entire adult lives - all types of dogs. Many of them needed training, but either we were too lazy or could not afford it. But then my son adopted a Bassett/Beagle puppy, and several years later a mutt to keep him company . I would go to his house and watch them run the house, literally and figuratively. Barking, destroying, fighting, jumping...it was the worst. I wouldn't let my mother come meet the puppy, because I was afraid she would knock her down! Fast forward to this year, when my son is moving to Chicago for work and asks us to take the dogs for 6 months while he sells the house and gets settled. His pulling and aggression was so bad that for a solid year I was too frustrated to train him myself. From my first phone consultation with Taylor, I had a good feeling about this team. I recently finished a 5d training program with Page and can't speak highly enough about her excellent work with me and my dog Trixie!! Having worked with 2 other trainers prior to this and not seeing the results I'd hoped for, I had serious doubts about yet another round of training for us. Trixie's a great dog but had all the usual bad habits of smart confident dogs without the proper training. She pulled on the leash constantly, loved meeting other dogs so dragged me everywhere, barked and jumped at the door, jumped on anyone coming in the door, etc. Page came out to my house and spent 5 days working with both of us. On Day 2 we were able to go for a walk with Trixie WALKING NICELY AT MY SIDE! This was unheard of, especially in 1 day (and did not involve any type of punitive correction). Page was patient with me and my questions and gave me excellent insight into the dog mind. She paid attention to Trixie and geared her teaching specifically to my dog and her behaviors. By the end of training on Day 5 we had covered all of the issues I was concerned about. In fact, on the evening of Day 5 my daughter came over to visit and I had both of my dogs in "place." Remarkably, they did NOT bark, AND stayed in "place" until I released them to say hello to her. I can't recommend Jonas, Taylor and the team at K911enough! We adopted our huge Rottie mix Brutus from a person on the Facebook PASS page who was desperate to offload his poor dog on whoever would take him. We didn't realize that we were taking in a huge, powerful 100 lb dog who had never been trained, wouldn't get in our car to go to the vet and had apparently never walked on a leash before. Right away we knew we were going to need professional help training him. We simply could not handle him and were very worried we would not be able to keep him. There was no way we could integrate him into our lives if we couldn't even walk him or get him medical treatment and vaccinations. When I ran a search for trainers, I found Jonas' instagram page and watched a few of his posts and knew right away his approach was going to be the right fit for us. Within a couple of days, we dropped him off for a month-long in-house training program at his house! We didn't choose the hermit life, it chose us. Two weeks with Kelly changed EVERYTHING. I can take Kona to do literally anything now and know that I am in control. It was absolutely life changing. Granted, Kona was trained right at the beginning of COVID so we couldn't do everything we wanted to right away, but even gaining the ability to simply go on a walk with my dog and get out of the house without worrying what will happen if we pass another dog on a narrow sidewalk next to a busy street was a whole paradigm shift on my world. I had the most amazing experience with K911! and would 100% recommend them to anyone looking for a dog trainer in the Austin area. We were lucky enough to have Kaitlyn as our trainer for myself and my yellow lab, Hank. Hank was having really bad reactivity problems and had (unprovoked) attacked multiple dogs at my apartment complex. He was completely out of control, even taking him on short walks was anxiety-inducing. After a conversation with Jonas, I was hopeful that Kaitlyn would be able to help us, but wow, I did not expect the results we got in just 5 days. (Note - We chose the option where Kaitlyn came to our apartment complex every day since Hank needed work in his environment) After the first day of training (2 hours), I was already able to see a huge transformation. Hank was no longer pulling on the leash, not reacting to other dogs and beginning to automatically sit when we stopped. (If this sounds too good to be true, trust me I was just as shocked). Our second day of training, we continued working on our structured walks and then learned my other favorite thing - Place. Hank was really bad at jumping on people walking in the door and begging for food at meal time. Honestly, it was so bad, I didn't like having people over. Kaitlyn provided a place cot and taught us how to utilize it, which has revolutionized our world. Now, when we need Hank to relax and stay in his area, Hank stays on his place. Our third day of training, we continued work on structured walks and place, and since Hank was doing SO well already, we started working with the e-collar for off-leash recall. It was amazing to see how quickly he caught on to this and how much fun he was having practicing. I'm not sure I've ever seen his tail wag so hard. Our fourth and fifth days of training, we put our new skills to the test. We spent Thursday walking around Home Depot and Friday we went to Zilker Park to practice his e collar work. I had pretty much accepted our fate that Hank would never be able to go out in public because of his aggressive behavior. Seeing him perfectly walk around Home Depot and Zilker Park happy as a clam, almost made me cry. I truly never thought I would have a good dog and here he was, acting like an angel. The only thing I regret about the training process was not doing this sooner. Kaitlyn not only trained my dog but also coached me in how to be a good dog owner and to keep up his training. The week after his training we were able to take Hank to a busy coffee shop where he had zero reactivity and was able to relax while we enjoyed our morning. Hank's and my quality of life have been exponentially increased. We are both significantly less anxious and I'm excited for the new adventures we can have together. 1-week ago today Frank wrapped up his 10-day training with Jonas. First, I should start by saying Mama P is so great. She was good about outreach when my city was up for scheduling, very prompt in responding to my questions...and just such a kind woman. Mama P--I wish you health and every bit of happiness in your "retirement!" When I reached out to Jonas/Mama P for help, we were at a crossroads. Frank had worked with trainers in the past and admittedly, I was uncertain whether this would be different. Day 1 and Jonas put all those concerns to rest. He spent the time to listen to Frank's story (connecting the dots to the info I had sent via e-mail months earlier) and observe Frank's (along with his humans') behavior in order to formulate a plan. A couple things to know--Jonas is very observant of his environment/clients, functions with a high level of self-awareness, is empathetic in approach--in a nutshell, he has a very high EQ. He can be very direct in communicating feedback but does it in a way that is both supportive and actionable. Never once did I feel judged. I sincerely felt it came from a place that Jonas only wanted to see both Frank and me to be successful. After 10-days, Frank made more progress with Jonas than his 3-week board and train. Among a long list of challenges, Frank had to be boarded (or crated) when people were in the condo due to his inability to politely co-exist with people, unable to walk without pulling and reacting to his triggers, etc. Jonas taught us the power of integrating enrichment, building a better relationship, proper handling and how to fairly correct him. The result...well, you judge. These are examples from just a few days after completing his training. We have more work to do but for the first time, I really feel empowered to help Frank. Get ready for a long one... My dog doesn't freak out when she sees other dogs. I don't immediately tense up when I take her out to a trail where I know we will encounter crappy dog owners who have undisciplined, treat-trained assholes on retractable leashes, or worse; completely off leash and getting in everyone's face. THIS WAS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE. No, all dogs don't get along. They also don't need to. Not all humans get along, so why the hell do we expect all dogs to get along? All dogs do need confidence though. And so do the owners. I wasted a year and spent hundreds of dollars on trainers who were afraid to take my dog near other dogs, who told me she was a lost cause, or who simply told me some stupid shit they probably saw on Animal Planet. My dog was called aggressive by most people. I referred to her as "unpredictable". I had to wait (mostly impatiently) for Jonas. Actually, I had to wait for Katie, the super compassionate trainer who took my fat girl Sadie. Katie works for Jonas and is the resident Great Pyrenees expert at K911. Jonas trained Katie who then took my dog and taught her how to trust her handler in uncertain situations. I gave her up for two weeks which was not at all easy since I'm actually too attached to this mutt. But I knew it would be what we both needed in order to live the life I wanted when I adopted her. When I first adopted my dog, we dealt with some pretty shitty situations with some pretty shitty dogs. My pup became super fearful of dogs and we have been living a life under the cover of night so as to avoid other dogs, unpredictable situations, and life in general. What I got back was a confident, more balanced dog. And what have we done since? We fuckin went to Hamilton Green Belt and walked the trails and hung out in the pools. I have never been able to take her there. We've walked within inches of another dog- ON LEASH. She simply looks forward and pays no mind to other dogs. As I type this, my 88 pound doofus is currently sleeping contentedly on her bed after I put her in 'place' about an hour ago. When someone knocks at my door, she goes to place (and isn't allowed to freak the fuck out and pace the floor and shove her nose right into my poor unsuspecting guest's crotch). When I make dinner, she goes to place. When she's generally underfoot and I want her to not be in the way, she goes to place. When we're out in the unfenced yard, she has a camping cot and she goes to place while I do whatever thing I need to do when I can't watch her every second. She's like a damn Crockpot- I set it and (kind of) forget it. Jonas isn't going to coddle you so don't expect someone to kiss your ass simply because you're paying for a service. If your dog sucks, it's because you suck and he will tell you that (probably in just that way too). But you need to hear it so your dog doesn't end up flipping out... or worse. He's going to tell you that your dog needs structure and balance, not treats. Jonas and his trainers aren't going to hold your hand but they will be supporting you and teaching you the whole time. Plus you get to do leash class every week to keep your skills up; it's a fucking life saver because even after knowing my dog is more confident and doing better, it's still a hard adjustment for me to have confidence in my dog. The leash class (which is free after leash sessions with K911) will force you into the situations that used to terrify you and your dog- and it's AWESOME. Literally 6-10 "aggressive" dogs all walking together, being near each other, and being put into real life situations (Home Depot, parks, even a tiny store). In the next month or so, we will be adding another dog to the family which has only been a pipe dream until I mentioned it to Jonas and Katie, who promptly told me it's completely doable. It's a whole new world for me and my unruly dog after training with K911. I don't tense up when we go for a walk. We get to walk during the daytime! She'll never be a dog who automatically loves other dogs but at least now she knows that she doesn't need to go from 0 to 100. She can simply be a confident dog and ignore shitty dogs. Triztan is amazing!! We came to K911! several years ago for help from Jonas with our reactive dog, Dale. We had an amazing experience and truly appreciated everything we learned and the positive changes in our relationship with our dog. We now have a new puppy and came straight back to K911! I worked with Triztan Bane to help my dogs leash reactivity and get her to walk on a loose leash. I can't explain how thankful I am for having this opportunity with Triztan. He was so attentive and understanding. Not only did he give me the tools to walk my German Shepard on the leash with confidence but also the knowledge that goes with it.
