He is literally one of the most kind people I have ever met. I remember when we first moved to Austin and needed to find a babysitter for our Saint Bernard and us being so nervous to leave him for a few days with someone we had just met once. But fast forward to 8 years later and I would trust David with my life. Our dog's get excited when we pull up to his house and the tails don't stop wagging. Both our boys give him kisses as soon as they see him and you can just tell they feel safe, loved and take care of when they are with him. I can't possibly say enough good things about David!

He will also cry/howl/make pig-like grunting noises non-stop if put in a crate or kennel - he's a free range Toby. So when my parents wanted to fly us out to California for the holidays, we knew finding someone to take care of Toby was going to be a feat in and of itself. Fortunately, I stumbled across 'Runs with Dogs' in the depths of the internet, on a random thread. The owner of Runs With Dogs, David Lee, is awesome. He will come to your house or you can drop your dog off at his house, but I recommend his house because he's got a NICE set up - puppy paradise - large backyard, tons of toys, and even a couch for the pups to sleep on. He also walks the dogs every day, sometimes twice a day - huge bonus for Toby. David is reasonably priced ($25/day for boarding and $10/day for each additional dog - so a really good deal for multi-dog families) and will treat your dog as well as his own. He did a great job ensuring Toby got all of his meds, so I highly recommend him if you have a "high maintenance/special needs" dog. Finally, David is hilarious, so that's always fun. ....I hope I didn't just blow the lid on Austin's best kept puppy boarding secret.

I found Kenny through Yelp and emailed him a few questions. He was very prompt and thorough with his responses and we set up a meet-and-greet for the following week. He runs his business out of his home, and he has customized his whole house, yard and garage for dog training. It's quite impressive! Kenny has a matter-of-fact way of saying things which I truly respect. He not only helped us with the dog behavior issues that we were having, but also helped me to realize that some of our issues were brought on by our own behaviors! It helped us to change our own way of thinking about certain things (for the better). Kenny's training for dogs relies heavily on owner participation. Meaning, you don't drop your dog off to Kenny to be magically trained. You, the dog owner, attend the sessions with your dog and then PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE the new command with your dog all week, sometimes even for two weeks before the next session. It is required discipline for the owner and all family members and is a time commitment. After completing Kenny's training sessions, our dog now walks very nicely on a leash, sits when asked, goes to her "place", stays out of the kitchen when we are preparing food, and does not jump on the couch or up on us anymore. Remarkable! And worth the money? Most definitely!

Sometimes I've boarded her, which usually causes her to be reluctant the next time we go for day care. Not at Pups and Pals! She is so excited every morning! The daily schedule allows for group play and indoor rest. The staff evaluates the dogs' personalities, size, and energy levels before putting them in a group. Playtime includes best friends, lots of cuddles and kisses, pools in the summer, and always playscapes. They go out anywhere between 6-8 times a day, with breaks in their air conditioned suites. The building is super nice, very new, and the play areas have K9 grass that keeps their paws nice and clean. I especially like that it is hosed every night. BTW there's a groomer onsite! Just a heads up -- it's hard to see the marquis from the 1st street entrance. You really need to know what you're looking for! April and I give Pups and Paws 4 paws up!

This review is for grooming. I hope this place has security cameras in their grooming department…read morebecause I suspect the groomer abused my dog. I had a first time appointment this morning for an express groom, and handed my dog off to the groomer. Minutes after he took my pup and closed the door, I could hear my dog screaming in pain - two shrieks. I know the difference between anxious barking/whining and cries when a dog is hurt. My dog cried in pain. He is an anxious dog with separation anxiety, yes, but the only time I've heard him make the noise he did was when another dog bit him and when a neighbor accidentally stepped on his foot. I've also fostered hundreds of dogs, so can tell the difference. My gut/instincts told me to just cancel on the spot and take my dog home, so I told the front desk to charge me whatever is needed and we go without the groom. My dog is 3 years old and has been groomed every 3 months for his entire life. Grooming is not new for him, plus I gave him trazodone 1.5 hours prior. I wish I could've liked this place because it's so close to home but it's not worth it when the groomer is inexperienced and abusing the dogs. I spent less than 20 minutes there but my gut instinct told me that this is not a safe or experienced place to hand off your dogs. Do NOT go here
