Petco on Brodie Lane did a great job giving my labradoodle puppy (7 months) his first major grooming. He had picked up fleas out of town and his coat waa a mess. The groomer got rid of the fleas and gave him a short hair cut that was fabulous. read more

I really like Petco. It never smells bad and is always clean, the staff are friendly and helpful and they have a MUCH better selection of QUALITY pet foods than Petsmart. One thing I love is that they guarantee their pet food, meaning if you buy a bag of new or premium food you don't have to worry about wasting money because if your animal does not like it or they have adverse reactions from it, they take it back and give you a FULL refund. This is very important to me because I have one cat that has food intolerance problems and I've had to try many different brands to find one that suits him. read more

Is more worried about getting in trouble with her GM over actually asking her manager to help her in my simple, single item return transaction. first off they never sell the food i get for my dogs anymore. I can't find my bird's food there anymore either even though every time I'm out I go there and look just hoping to find it. second of all the groomers are terrible... my dogs both had choppy, uneven, not blended, UGLY haircuts.... My dog regularly enjoys the clip and buff option. With that nail service, a customer can walk in without an appointment. The groomer sees us quickly. By the time I pay the bill in the store at the register and look around the Petco for a couple of minutes, I can take her home. She visits every month and a half. read more

The grooming dept should not schedule weekend appointments! Why make one if my dog is going to sit in a kennel for 3.5 hours before he even gets seen? I get that there's walk-ins, but if I'm told it'll take 2-3 hours for him to be done, then I expect him to only be in a kennel for 1-2 hours tops. Call me when he is able to be seen and I'll be there in 10 mins. It is completely unnecessary for him to be in a kennel that long. read more

AQUARISTS STAY AWAY. Absolutely horrible. DO NOT go here for fresh water fish or plants, all of the tanks were completely infested with pest snails. I came in looking for a betta and a mystery snail, there were no mystery snails in stock (whatever, it happens so that didn't cause them to lose a star) but the Bettas were so sad. There were a couple that were dead and more than half were swimming funny. I managed to find a good one and some silk plants that I liked but were way overpriced. I bought them anyway because Petsmart doesn't carry anything that looks like those. However for most of the aquarium equipment, Petsmart has much more affordable options. It seriously looked like no one had paid any attention to the freshwater animals in a week. The salt water fish looked okay, I don't know anything about keeping them though. read more

Bought a large, expensive item. Took it home, found it did not have all items included in the box but did have packaging from another product someone had purchased. Obviously this item had been purchased & return and the employees just threw it back on the shelf without checking the item. I now get the luxury of lugging it back to the store to return. Thanks quality Petco employees. Will just drive over to Petsmart from now on. Or better yet, locally-owned Tomlinson's. Update: received a call from manager of the store apologizing & stating they do have policies in place & will be reviewing with the specific employee so it does not happen again. Being a new dog owner, I found the options for dog food to be a lot to go through. I asked a woman for help. She was cold and very snippy with her replies. Kinda fustrated I was ready to leave when I decided to ask another employee. Dorey was a god send. Calm, kind, and genuinely spoke from the heart. She offered not only options and advice about food, but also tips and first time tricks to welcoming my new four legged friend into my home. She didn't rush me or try to "sell" me products. I shop there for cat food, but I went in to buy some aquarium stuff for my beta fish. My husband bought their bamboo to put in the tank with my fish. I would have told him no if I had known that the bamboo picked out was in a tank with fish in it. I've had beta fish and successfully kept them for 11 years. I've never had any issues with them and know how to take care of them. We washed the bamboo and put it in the tank and by the next day he was dead! We dumped EVERYTHING out of the tank and once again cleaned ALL of the stuff. Scrubbed it and rinsed it very well. We went to a different store and bought a new beta fish and brought it home. Not knowing if it was just a coincidence we put all of the same CLEAN stuff back in the tank with the new beta fish, INCLUDING the bamboo. A week later he was dead. He was perfectly healthy, he was eating and swimming around then yesterday he started acting funny. He was darting around in his tank and was basically nose diving and laying on the bottom of the tank. I know what swim bladder looks like and that definitely wasn't it. Now I have two dead beta fish and the ONLY common denominator was the frikken bamboo. I knew I shouldn't have put it in there, especially from a place where selling fish is just a novelty rather than the main business. I was very sad though, I really loved my first beta fish and the second one we got was pretty nifty. I took it out and am just keeping it as a plant OUTSIDE of the tank, but now I have all of these items and no fish. I'm very disappointed. read more

I had a zoom appointment at 11am and show up at 10:55am for the attendant to tell me that it would be 3-4 hours. I said that I had a zoom appointment and she told me that it was not recorded as such. This is the second time this has happened here. She asked if I could come back in an hour and I said no, I took the day off from work to do this and have other things to take care of. The manager came over and said the same. I stood there in disbelief as I looked at an empty area behind them. There were 2 employees standing in front of me doing nothing and all they could say was "sorry". I will never return. read more

Worst experience I've ever had at a pet store. I bought two bettas and two tanks, etc on Wednesday. It was extremely difficult to find anyone to help us since we had questions. When we finally found someone, she basically blew us off. Then one of the bettas died within 12 hours of us buying it. So we went to return it, but they insisted on doing a water sample before doing a return or swap. The lady we went to was extremely rude and even yelled our water levels out to the whole store. She also yelled at one of her employees who just needed a key for another customer's appointment. Overall, we dealt with 3 employees who were equally rude and unhelpful. They didn't tell us how to fix our water and refused to give us another fish to replace the dead one. Don't ever go to this store. Go to Petsmart about a block away! read more

Never again will I take my dogs to petco grooming again. I took them in at 10am. The drop off area has only enough room for one owner and one or two pets. The lady at the counter was nice but when she came around to get one of my dogs she put her hand right under his mouth to pet him without giving him an opportunity to sniff her hand. He nipped at her and all of a sudden he needs special handling which is an extra charge. I was told 3-4 hours but it took them 5.5. I swung by after 4 hours to see if they were done and the groomer said she still needed to do my other dog. Why even make an appt? What was surprising was one of my dogs was on her stand just barely getting taken care of. The dog she had on the stand, she said she was having problems trimming her nails. I used to go to petsmart and my dogs have never had those problems before. The employees there just had attitudes, so I switched. I finally got the call to pick them up. I took my dogs home and they literally ran to their water bowl and drank water like they had not had water all day. So by dogs were stressed more than normal there and obviously didn't have access to water. Now to start looking for a new groomer. read more

I shop here all the time and think this is probably one of the best Pet stores in Austin, despite it being part of a large chain. What makes it so great is that the employees are all very laid back Austin types and seem to really care about their jobs. I like how the store is very bright and clean and sells more higher end pet foods then the competition accross the street. From a glance you feel like the store caters to the beginner pet owner, more so than the expert, but after you talk to a few of their employees you learn that they have several experience Avian, Aquatic and herp owners that work there and they Will go out of their way to find the products that someone more experienced as myself may need..... read more

I took my dog to the groomers on Friday 11/4, I've always trusted petco with my dog but after what happened...never again. I mentioned I always get the $65 dollar price cut and they said that would be the spa package included...totaling to be 83 dollars. I said okay because again I trusted them. After returning a 3 hours after, my dog still wasn't done. They quoted me in person another 15-20 mins. An hours passes I get a call saying 10 mins! Cool okay...not! I arrived to pick up my beloved dog and the helper (Christine-manager said that was her name) DROPPED my shitzhu on the floor! He's an older dog, and to be dropped in his shoulder didn't help! She didn't say sorry or apologize she just said "oh"! After that I got anxiety and walked out with my dog into the car, I looked at how poorly his hair was cut and returned inside! They then proceeded to fix the disaster they created! While the older woman fixed him I watched him be handled roughly and the two helpers just stood there! As they answered the phone saying plumbing was a hold back, something that was never told to myself(seemed like an excuse). Anyways the manager I believe her name was Katherine gave me a discounted price and would let the groomer manager know what happened. After all that, they didn't finish fixing his cut, probably because they saw me talking with the manger while they were fixing him...he has irritated spots from being shaved too closely, limping from the side he was dropped on, oh and that spa treatment, he doesn't even smell washed!!!!! read more

We've recently started taking our dog there for grooming & very happy with the results. Pricing was fair as were the time frames for service. As someone who has worked in the service industry, I've witnessed & can appreciate the patience the staff has shown with some very pretentious customers. Our shepherd mix is a rambunctious 70lbs; if they can handle him, they can handle just about anything. That being said, the personnel have been friendly & cordial. read more

I was in the checkout at the PetCo in Sunset Valley yesterday and had a clear view of the pet groomers. There were two groomers, one in her 20's and the other an older middle aged woman. The latter was grooming a small gray pup about 9:30 A.M. yesterday. I watched as she LITERALLY tugged at this poor dog's ear with a comb multiple times. The pup yelped and she keep going, barely paying attention to the task at hand. My pet mom mode kicked in. I told the man at the checkout that this was unacceptable, and his first question was, "Do you have pet grooming experience?" HUGH? I don't need to be a groomer to know that tearing at knotted fur is NOT ACCEPTABLE. He said she has been a groomer for 16 years. Yes, and... time to retire. Beware, stay with your pet and watch them so you can be assured that they are taking care of your baby. After seeing some of the posts on this site, this is NOT an isolated incident. I've been here twice in the past few months and I agree with the other customer who says the store stinks. I'm not sure it's urine and feces. It smells like dead lizards. I came to this store looking for something to help my very sick hamster. I had no idea what to do and when I went to the small pet aisle, I was greeted by a very friendly specialist named Steven. When I had walked in, I was hopeless and sad but with Steven's help I found everything I needed and was reassured. He taught me things about my pet that I didn't know before that have helped overall. I loved the help I got right away and overall the entire staff was VERY friendly and knowledgeable!! I continue to come back to this location for all of my pets. The staff is obviously experienced and dedicated! I plan on getting another hamster as a companion for mine so I will definitely come back here and talk to Steven again! read more
