I've been going to Petco much now often since I have a new puppy. They always cheerfully honor price-matching and I have taken advantage of their Pals Award program. I am so glad they are an essential store during the pandemic. Their curbside pickup system needs a little work as items showing up online are not actually in stock so I hope they work on that. But today I'd like to give 5 stars for Nicole for grooming services at Petco Honolulu on Beretania. She was very friendly from start to finish and made my pup Abbie very comfortable during her first grooming ever. She called me when she was done which was in about an hour, as promised. I was stuck on an errand and when I returned to pick up Abbie, Nicole had waited for me and was entertaining Abbie even though Nicole could have gone home earlier. Nicole had taken Abbie around the store and Abbie wanted a GoDog plush toy and Nicole had bought the toy for Abbie! Nicole also attached a first-time 20% coupon to my ticket and I was able to apply it at checkout. I wish I was more generous with my service tip for Nicole; she really deserved it and did a great job on Abbie, who received the "face, feet and fanny" service and bath, trimmed nails, and spritzed with a nice fragrance. She had a cute little pink bandana too. I hope to see Nicole again the next time I'm at Petco and will not hesitate to ask for her again for Abbie's next grooming. read more

I prefer to shop local, but in all fairness, I have to give these guys 4 stars. Can't beat them for their selection of dog paraphernalia. They've got everything you could ever imagine for your pooch - toys, food (high quality, not Purina), treats, kennels, carriers, leashes/collars, stain/odor remover, puppy pads, shampoo, etc. They also offer grooming (although I saw a really sad story on the news about a dog who got its ear cut off and the employee tried to glue it back on) and obedience classes. Not sure how good the classes are but at least they are offered. They also host weekly adoption events so that Hawaii's homeless cats and dogs have a second chance at being loved. Their prices are a little on the high side, but your furry friends are worth the splurge, right? read more

I paid $15 to get my dog's nails trimmed and filed. It took less than 10 minutes and his nails were short and perfectly rounded. I am so thankful that he didn't have any nails that were cut too deep. No bloody paws = 5 stars in my book! I really appreciate Petco installing glass doors and windows in their grooming salon. This allows me to watch my dog's "manicure." The gal who was servicing my dog took great care to speak kindly to him, give him encouraging words and praise him for good behavior. I was also pleasantly surprised to see how she introduced the nail cutter and the dremel file to my dog so he wouldn't be terrified of the process. Her expertise and genuine love of dogs shined through and my dog did not put up a fight or bark or anything. Once the manicure was over, the gal brought out my dog and complimented him for his good behavior. I also love how the store is so neat, clean and organized. Ample Parking, too. Took my furry son to Petco today to get a haircut & wash.........I normally wash him myself, but in the past when I tried to give him a haircut, it just didn't look right. The solution for all of this..........PETCO! This store is a pet lover's dream........it has almost everything you can imagine! Beside a grooming spa in the store. This store has it all!!!! I'm talkin' about food, toys, treats, grooming items, shampoo & toothpaste, carriers, bowls, leashes, custom tags, & collars.......man, like I said.........it has everything!!! Anyway, the staff at the grooming spa was very friendly and helpful. They took care of my furry son with kid care love, and they were finished within 2 hours. I was very happy with their work, paid just under $80 bucks.........but it was all worth it, as my furry son was very happy too! Don't forget to sign up for a Petco Pals Rewards card.........I think for every $100 bucks you spend over there, you get value coupons back on-line. This store is my go-to for pet supplies when I need to get it right away. What I love about Petco is that they offer price match with their online store. With this feature I am able to purchase supplies at a more reasonable price. My only gripe with this store is that they do not offer stand alone nail trimming for dogs. You must actually purchase a full grooming service in order to get your dog's nail trimmed. I have since decided to do it myself. You just need to take the time to train your dog to get used to the nail trimming. For my dog, it was a challenge because he did not want his paws messed with. Here's a tip: play gently with his paws regularly so that he or she becomes used to it. Eventually, bring in the nail trimmer and although I didn't have to do it, you may want to give your pet treats for cooperating. And be sure to give your pet praise. One thing I really like about Petco is that they work with Hawaiian Humane Society to help pets find homes. I never intended to be a pet parent myself but a needy puppy destined to probably be put to sleep due to its congenital organ defects needed a home. Let's face it, taking care of pet can be costly. And when you have a special needs pet, it can really get expensive through surgery and special prescription diets which can get very expensive. But I would do it again to save my special dog. There are many pets out there like mine that require specialized care that would otherwise be left to die if it weren't for some caring person or organization like Hawaiian Humane Society. There is a soft spot in my heart for pets that need a home. Kudos to Petco for helping to find home for needy pets! read more

I am a long-time customer of Petco, where I come for everything I need for my pets -- food, treats, supplies, grooming, for several years now, and unfortunately I will have to continue coming here unless another more convenient pet store comes along. But let me tell you, if you can find another pet store or supplier, do not give your money to Petco. I was turned away by TANYA, who said she is the store manager. She refused to make a price adjustment of less than $5 on products that I bought at 20% off, which were now 25% off. It is so unfortunate that she did not want to compromise or offer any other solution to my issue, which again, was a difference of less than $5. She is also not apparently up-to-date on promotional Petco offers, claiming she did not know what the online promotions were, so I might suggest staff at all levels some additional education. Now I guess it is left up to me, the customer, to call Customer Service and get everything sorted, once again. Other issues I've encountered over the years were: several cashiers not redeeming my Pals rewards (remind them to use them and double check your receipts IN STORE and not at home), and a long-time cashier who has helped me several times and is usually very nice but refusing to even look at my Petco app to redeem a grooming voucher saying she "has no idea how that works" (referring to the app). Again, additional training on Petco's website and app might be needed. Petco has a great rewards program, is very convenient one-stop shop for all of your pet's needs with a good variety of inventory. I usually receive great customer service, but I notice whenever I have technical questions, such as about the app, I get referred to calling into Customer Service. I think some additional education about the website and app needs to be given to all staff, and that Tanya, the store manager, needs to learn how to compromise with a customer. read more

Oh my God, I tried to adopt a Guinea pig today at this location. Guinea pig name George. We got a salesman and told him we wanted to adopt him. The salesman kept saying your sure your sure. We said we are sure. So he kept taking him out putting him back in the cage. The salesman was strange. He then went to other Guinea pig cage and took a small Guinea pig out . Then he kept walking around and said he's looking for the handheld to scan the Guinea pig. I've adopt Guinea pigs here before never took over twenty minutes and he still never gave us Guinea pig. This morning I went to the South Beretania St store had to pick some doggie supplies for my brother dog and it was close until 9am but however it was open for the groomers part of the store. It was about 8:54 when this lady had 3 poddles dogs 2 white and 1 brown she happened to be staying in front of the store so that she can get all her dogs grooms when we saw employees coming in for their shift. On guy employee was walking in the store throught the sliding door when the little brown dog head almost got slam by the store sliding door, you think that the employees would think of watching their surrounding before closing the door. He was so much trembling inside the store with me, he must have had very bad experience when he got his grooming a few times. The other day, he even vomited right after gooming at home. I had such a good experience here yesterday. I went in for a simple walk-in nail trim for my pup but inquired about a full service cleaning and they informed me they could fit him in that day, I got the shedding package which is an additional $20 added to the $38 fee. A little pricy I thought , but totally worth it. I swept 2 days ago and haven't had to clean up any hair since his wash. He is so fluffy and even his back teeth were cleaned. The service is friendly and you can tell the people who work there love what they do. It is also nice to be able to do your shopping for pet supplies while you receive service. read more

Their employees are not trained sufficiently to cut dogs hair and use a hang man's loose and don't include the front leg harness to keep from choking the dog. i saw a dog slide off the table and was literally "hanging" and suffered damage to its throat. I waited for owner to show up and tell her. She immediately took her dog to vet and said there was damage to the neck and throat. She took them to court and PETCO showed a paper she signed saying PETCO is not responsible for for any dogs injuries during the clipping. I always like coming here and now that I know I can price match, it's even better! I never used to like going to Petco because it's so expensive... most things, but you can price match! I try to support local as much as possible but the warranty on their fish here is awesome!!! I'm lucky if i can get a fish to survive more then a month, not sure if I'm doing something wrong or the fish are weak when I buy them. I like to buy Bettas from here because they have a nice selection and you know what type you are buying... not that it makes a difference to me but it makes a difference in price and they look pretty healthy. Today I took our dog for her first "spa" treatment! Made an appointment yesterday for this morning and when we dropped her off it was pretty easy and very informative. Since it was our first time they explained their services. We opted for the basic bath and add on package (I can't remember what it was called but you get shampoo of your choice plus 3 upgrades)... we got a mud bath (which the employee suggested)), nail buff and paw balm. Three hours later they called us and told us our dog was ready for pick up. Went to pick her up and it was crowded... got our dog and payed for our services. The only thing I was concerned about is if they took her out to pee or gave her water to drink... two things she immediately did when we got outside. Our dog is a pit bull and she is behaved somewhat... the employee that took care of our dog said she did well for her first time... we usually give her a bath at home and she loves the shower. I was surprised she did well! We will bringing her more often as trying to take her a bath in our shower does get challenging at times due to her size! read more

4.5 Stars actually. First time bringing Bailey (shih tzu/rat terrier) here for grooming. They let you choose the length of cut which is really nice because you can actually "see" the samples on a board. I am very pleased with how he looks. The reason I am not giving 5 stars is because... you know how pet owners are, very particular about their babies. He did have a "rat bite" on his right side. Small but noticeable. Also, I feel his dew claws should've been trimmed a little more. I will be returning tho. I'm sure if I mention these things to them the next time, he will look even more amazing! read more

On 8.18.22, I went to this Petco to pick-up my order I placed through the Petco app. Usually, I just run in the store, pick up my order and leave. But on this day, I decided to walk through the store and look at what they had. Long story short, the items I had ordered through the app were actually on sale in the store! Petco, if you're reading this, you need to commend GARRICK. He was the one that patiently helped me and explained everything to me. He even helped me get a partial refund on the items I purchased through the app. Thank you so much GARRICK!!! Two things I learned from this visit... 1- It is much easier and convenient and most times cheaper buying things online. But we also need our brick and mortar stores to thrive too. I've waited three visits to write this review. Every store has an off day so I wanted to be fair with my intial negative interactions. Typically I order my supplies online for pick up at this location. Since I live nearby, it is cheaper and more convenient than having it shipped it my home. Most of my purchases are dog food, treats and a occational toy. The reason for the two stars is that I've been unenthusiatically welcomed for the last three visits and the person assisting me has had a hard time locating my online order. I have to say, I am definitely still LOVING this petco. I called the grooming side yesterday at about 5:30 to see what time they closed and they said at about 8pm. My poor Yuki chan (she's a chihuahua) had some fleas (she's an indoor dog, but my brothers dog goes in and out the house! So irritating which leads me to believe he's the one giving her the fleas!) ANYWAY lol, last appointment was at 6:30pm so I quickly got in the truck and headed down to petco! I got there at 6:22 huffing and puffing hoping they'd take her quickly which they did, I ended up getting her the whole 9 yards, with the upgraded flea bath. The lady said it would take about 45 min so we decided to walk around the store. We get to the food area, and I was just curious because we have a Blue Doberman puppy who's about 7 weeks he eats Solid Gold, (from my previous post that's what we feed Yuki). I then asked the worker about another food we could feed Onyx because his parents are both allergic to chicken, wheat and soy, and they eat Acana, which is a sister brand to Origins. Both are very expensive 25lbs for almost $100 and dobermans are huge, but that's the best food. All in all we were looking for something a little cheaper, so he pointed us to the Merrik and blue Buffalo. It's hard to find something that he won't be allergic too, so I was glad that the guy actually knew what would be the best in petco for us to try. Back to Yuki chan, she was all done by 740 and she was such a good girl that the lady gave her some treats and even a pretty green scarf! They did a really good job on her nails, she HATES getting them cut and we saw her through the glass squirming around lol! I had a few questions about hot spots on dogs, because my moms Labrador has it pretty bad, and the lady gave us some tips and said that next time we come in they could give us a list of shampoo and sprays for him which was pretty cool. They also have a bath for dogs with hot spots as well, the only thing is the hot spots CANNOT be open, other then that they can take your dog. All in all I'm very happy I came in yesterday, I spent way too much time in this store, and I still love it! Thank you petco! read more

Avoid! Review for grooming only. Have been getting my dog's nails trimmed here for 7+ years. The last year and a half or two years things have been steadily declining. Don't even think of taking your dog there if not up to date on vaccines. The salon is usually filthy. Balls of hair and grime on the floor, often damp spots or specks. I always washed my dog at home after her nail trims feeling uncomfortable about this. (I cut her quick once and too paranoid to do myself!) I have commented on the ubiquitous post-customer survey over 5 times about the cleanliness and no improvements. Never once a follow up though I left detail and my contact info. The final straw was going about 7 months ago with my 5 year old. After dropping dog off and paying at register my daughter asks to use the bathroom and the cashier brusquely says no bathroom (after taking my money), I am not a homeless person! The groomer (Kim? I forget) who knows my face and my dog because I've been there every month for years? I asked her too and she said "no bathroom due to covid." So ridiculous. She said she has little kids too. Really shocking and pathetic. Thank God the nice manager at Walgreens let me use their bathroom next door. So I came to my senses and for $5 less switched to Live Love Pet in Kaimuki. A little less convenient but you can tell they love dogs and the place is super clean. Petco has a bad vibe of late and from reading other reviews now I know I'm not alone. Prince Caesar Pretty-boy loves this store. It's official. I have become one of THOSE people that treat pets like humans. Haha, it all started quite by accident when I rescued an abandoned baby pup named Ricky. Somehow the name Ricky did not do the pup justice, so he morphed into Prince Caesar. This is Caesar's favorite store. He likes to be pushed around in his pet stroller to shop and watch the fish swim in the tanks. He enjoys picking out new food, treats and toys. He once placed 3rd place in the store's annual Halloween costume contest as "Super Dog". It was a very proud moment for our family. #goals This store always has wonderful holiday events. We have also utilized grooming services here for ear clearing and nail trimming. This is a wonderful location and all of the employees are exceptional with pets. I heard negative stories about Petco but I wanted to give their training sessions a try. I paid for a 1:1 training session with Angel and received numerous text reminders for my appointment. After waiting 5 minutes after our session was supposed to start and no one was there, I told 2 different employees and they just told me to wait in front of the training area, which was blocked by online pick up orders. We were constantly being told by other employees to move to the side because we were in the way, but there was no room to stand. The trainer walked in 10 minutes after we were supposed to start, didn't greet us, and started mopping and chit chatting with another employee. After 15 minutes of standing around, I went to the counter to get a refund. They sent me to 2 different employees to get my refund and were very condescending, asking if the trainer knew I was there. The trainer said she had no idea there was a session scheduled unless she looked into my account and blamed it on a computer glitch. There was no apology at all, and I couldn't believe they asked me if I wanted to reschedule. I'm very disappointed in the poor service for such a large corporation. read more

I booked a grooming appointment and dropped off my dog in the morning. They said it would take a few hours and that they'd call me when they were done grooming Dolce. I got a call mid afternoon starting that they were running behind schedule and that it would be a few more hours. They finally called me a few hours later and by then it was evening already. I picked up my dog and brought him home. He was sooo THIRSTY and FAMISHED!! They didn't feed him water or anything to eat the entire time!! Talk about animal NEGLECT!! Dogs can't talk to tell you they're hungry or thirsty, but as professionals that work in the animal industry, they should know better!! I hate to write a bad review because I have loved Petco since living in California. However, this location has the worst curbside service ever! I would not recommend using that service at this location. Whenever I order for curbside pickup, no one ever comes out; even after I have notified the store twice. When I go in, there is never anyone at the kiosk to help me. I'm forced to stand in the regular checkout line just to tell someone that I'm there for in-store pickup. Once, I tested the curbside request from in-store. I stood there, heard the alert in the store, and nothing. No one even came to the front to retrieve the order for curbside delivery. Totally defeats the purpose of no contact and saving time. Otherwise, this Petco is in a convenient location with ample parking. read more

I've been to multiple Petco's on the island, and among my favorites are the Hawaii Kai and town location. Conveniently located off of S. Beretania St. next to Walgreens, you will not miss a large sign as the parking lot is open and shared with a few other businesses. Petco sells pet foods of a wide variety not only for the non-allergic but also for sensitive pets. The store is kept clean and keeps a well stock shelf not only for food and treats but as well as toys, pet cleaners of all sorts. Kong toys are a winner for my pup since he's quite the destroyer which Petco keeps in stock pretty frequently. At times when lucky, we may even find great quality toys (Star Wars/Kongs etc.) on sale that can't be beat. The store is organized by category for shopping made easy. An eclectic collection of toys go on sale and are at most kept near the cashiers zone along with a mini bakery of doggie cookies priced per item and affordable. Register your number to earn Pals Points and earn 5 rewards dollars for every $100 spent and exclusive discounts and coupons. The store is not limited to just products but also have live animals as well. Depending on the day, I've seen cute gerbils, exotic birds of all types and colorful fishes. The Hawaiian Humane Society holds many adoption drives on either Saturdays or Sundays and have puppies and cats for adoption. When I adopted my pup at 4 weeks, it was easy for me to buy his collar, dog tags and puppy food immediately at the store. Petco holds puppy play time and obedience classes which my pup enjoyed. The little rugrat is a definite diva and gets his monthly nail cut and buff. With nail trims, walk ins are welcome; however, I would highly recommend making your appointments for a full service bath and trim. Thank goodness for my short hair pup. The groomers are gentle, Petco sales floor staffs are helpful and trainers are some of the most knowledgeable people. I always look forward to many trips here with my little family. read more

I always have a good experience at this location. Recently I went in and was helped by a lady named Robin. I had some questions about the kitties at the front and she was very willing to help! I even held one. Sadly I did not adopt. After we saw the kitties I mentioned our dog needing some treats for good breath and she was willing to walk us to the spot that had them and gave personal recommendations. I like the groomer area. Our doggy gets his nails done every couple months with no problems. Mahalo! read more

Went into Petco this morning to pick up an online order that was ready. I was standing by the online pick up and a Worker walked past me and I asked him if he could help me with my pick up order and he quickly walked away and rudely said I'm not working, so I went around to go find someone and when I finally did, he said that there was only two workers working and that's why no one is helping me and to wait in the front or wait in the line. What is the point of making a online pick up order if I have to wait in the line? I go back to the front of the store and the same guy that told me he wasn't working told me he could now help me. Waste of your time, just go in the store and get the items yourself. It'll be a lot faster and don't have to deal with rude workers. read more

For a long time, I was searching for a groomer for my princess, Sugar! She means the world to me so i wanted to find the right person to be her groomer on a monthly basis. I live in Salt Lake so I decided to go to Petco Pearl City. From the very first visit Lauren showed the best customer service and was always cheerful and friendly. Not to mention, an amazing pet stylist. She recently relocated to this location and although I have to travel more, she is well worth It! I trust her completely with my baby and know that she's in good hands. Photos from last night of the princess!! If I could give a ZERO I would. Worst grooming experience EVER! Most UNPROFESSIONAL employees at the S Beretania location. Took our Persian for grooming today and 4 hours later we picked up our cat with the most horrible unfinished cut. There was no structure to the cut. It was an uneven unfinished mess. They recommended taking our cat to the vet to have his hair cut. AND they LAUGHED!!!! THEY LAUGHED like it was funny that our Persian cat looked the way he did. He kept whining for some time after as if he was injured or hurt. read more
