From the very beginning, all communication was clear and thorough. Sherry (Sherrie? Cherie?) was great at answering all our questions and putting our minds at ease about putting our two pit bulls through training. We eventually decided on the basic 4-lesson training sessions, and we just completed our last one yesterday with Loren. Shout out to Loren for working so well with our Tank and Pepper!! First and foremost, you MUST be willing to practice reinforcing all the lessons you learn on your own time in between training sessions. It's like learning something once and then not doing your homework...would that work? Of course not. SOooooo.... my husband and I (mostly my husband), really put a lot of effort into doing our "homework" in between sessions with Loren. I mean, I wouldn't want to be the embarrassed parents who didn't help their children succeed, lol. Anywho, each training session was clear and had lots of scaffolding and repetition, so that our pups could succeed. There was plenty of explanation behind all the commands and corrections, so we knew how to handle our specific dogs. I think the personalization and customization was wonderful, and it makes me really happy to see that the trainer knew his stuff! Further, it was clear that he genuinely cared about each dog and his/her personality traits that makes each dog unique. During the 4-lesson basic package, Tank and Pepper learned sit (with duration and distance), place (with duration and distance), heel (still needs LOTS of practice), and down (with distance and duration). Now from here on out, it's about reinforcement, reinforcement, reinforcement. I don't want to lose any of this precious learning, so we better stay on top of things and continue the great work that has begin. We're so happy with k9 Off Leash that we are now also seriously considering the 2-week board and train with both Tank and Pepper. Can I give Loren and Sherry 10/10 Stars? The experience from START to FINISH was outstanding. I signed up my 1 year old goldendoodle for a 3 week training course. Sherry was prompt with her responses and I never once felt that she was trying to sell me a package. She is professional, knowledgable, and informative. My pup and I reside on the Big Island and I have apprehension flying to O'ahu to drop off my pup to a bunch of strangers. They came highly recommended by a friend whose Goldendoodle was trained by them. Additionally, Sherry spent 1 hour talking to me - addressing my concerns and providing clarity on things. After a long overdue wait of getting my dog into aggressive training, I finally made the call to get my dog started. My dog is blind but would be very reactive towards other dogs and people. I signed up for the Aggressive Training classes which is a 8 week course. All classes are an hour long. I live all the way in Ewa so I decided to make the drive. I was pretty nervous at first since it's a huge investment in money and time. James has been awesome and patient with me and my dog from the beginning. He was very good at explaining things. So, my family decided to find a board and train for her at the young age of 7 months. My husband came across Off Leash K9 on Yelp and then discovered their videos on YouTube. He'd watch clips of various dogs in training every night and would say, "Honey! Look! You gotta watch this!" Eventually I was convinced to invest in OLK9 program, especially after the first home training program (through a different company) didn't work out as we had expected. I say invest because the 14-day OLK9 program is pricey, but after reuniting with her after 2 weeks, I was amazed with how far she had come! Proud parent!! Totally worth it. Amie was our trainer. She's very friendly and sent photo and video of Makana daily. She took her to various places to train on the island, such as Chinaman's Hat park, Turtle Bay, Waikiki Beach and even neighborhood parks. Training also took place at their facility in Kaneohe. The magic started to happen even on day 1! The commands that Makana has come to learn are: Come, sit, down, place (and to another place), and heel. The training incorporates the use of an e-collar, which is sent home with the dog after graduating from the program. I was weary of e-collar training at first, but I was able to feel the corrective stimulus when I dropped her off and picked her up. There are different levels from 0-100 to correct bad behavior. After meeting Amie and seeing the good work she put in with Makana, I am a firm believer if this technology. Especially if you feel you've tried everything. Now that Makana is home, I keep her on the collar during the day when she has supervision and take it off when she's resting and overnight. I plan to eventually transition her off. So it's very important that everyone in the household uses the same commands and repetition. Never give up!! Worked with Off Leash for my 15 month old Yorkshire Terrier, Winston. Winston's Main issues: Fearful Anxiety, mainly Separation anxiety Barks a lot at familiar faces and out of fear We completed the 8-week reactivity and aggression program with the head trainer, Sherry. She works with the dogs in this program so your pup will be in great hands. We learned basic obedience, sit, down, place, and heel. With the obedience commands we worked through his behavior issues and building his confidence. Sherry was super knowledgeable on how to handle Winston's behavioral issues. She immediately knew what to do when we would come across Winston's fear and anxiety during training and worked it through. She also provided me with extensive knowledge on how to handle my dog outside of the training sessions. I believe Winston and I are well equipped to take our training even further especially after completing the course. Based on my full experience, I find Sherry and her team at Off Leash to be very credible and trust their judgement. I inquired with another dog training business prior to Off Leash, and they diagnosed my dog with severe aggression and reactivity and would require great muzzle training before meeting a trainer. Their full diagnosis did not sound like my dog. However, when inquiring with Sherry, she concluded that there was no aggression but rather strong anxiety. I was assured by our first session when we didn't need to muzzle. In addition Winston was not reactive nor aggressive towards Sherry when she handled him. Long overdue...it's been 3 months since our rambunctious strong-willed 9-month old Doberman attended the 2-week board and train program with Sherry V. To whom, I cannot thank enough for tailoring her schedule to ensure that our pup met the goals of the program. We had scheduled the training 5 months prior, for 2 weeks while we vacationed on the mainland. During the first 2 days, our pup had a delayed start due to severe reaction to her kibble (I had made the mistake of switching her diet from raw to kibble to simplify things). At first, Sherry spent more time taking care of our pup than training her. She went out of her way to nurture our pup back to normal and got her on track with training; Sherry then extended our pup's training by 3 days, rather than rescheduling our pup to return months later. During the entire time, Sherry kept us well informed with daily texts and pics, sometimes a phone call or video. On the day of pick-up, we spent two hours reviewing the commands and learning how to use the remote and ecollar. I immediately saw the changes with our pup--it was incredible. She was my same pup, just different....We had met at Kapolei district park. There was a lot going on, so many distractions. My pup should have gone crazy, yet she was attentive and obedient. Over the last 3 months, we have thoroughly enjoyed taking our pup off-leash to the beach and hiking. She is doing phenomenal with her extended down and recall. We've taken her to dog friendly restaurants and shopping centers. The best part of it all is the great pics I get to take during her extended stays. UPDATE (5/25/18)- We just picked up our second baby, Minnie, last night!! She is also completely transformed and a different dog. We knew she was always stubborn and head-strong but, Aunty Sherry broke though!! I saw some of that stubbornness this morning on our walk as I tried to "place" her on a bench at the bus stop. But, I could hear Aunty Sherry in the back of my head saying "keep at it until they get it" & I did. At first he was hesitant to come but, he eventually came running towards us OFF LEASH at a busy road. We spent some time with Sherry learning the new commands & how to effectively use the e-collar. We met on the road leading down into the Blaisdell center (same side as Thomas Square) & the entire time we were talking, Beans was off leash, roaming around, doing his thing. Then we took him into the expo & he was thee perfect gentleman. He didn't pull at the leash, he didn't bark or try to nip at any other dogs, and he didn't jump on anyone. Eventually he got tired & we put him in the sling we bought. Once we turned a corner & he saw Aunty Sherry, he nearly jumped out of the sling to go to her!! OLK9 are miracle workers! My olde English bulldogge Daisy is the sweetest, most stubborn, hard headed dog I ever met. She's the Mariah Carey of dogs, a total diva. When we go on walks I'm not walking her, but she's pulling me around the block until she's done walking. And then she'll turn around and drag me back home. Luckily my husband saved his money and we were able to send out Daisy girl to training. It's pricey, but well worth it. We opted for their two week board and train and unfortunately for us, Hurricane Lane interrupted our training a week in and my husband didn't get the call for drop off to resume training right away. We had to wait another 5 months until we were able to send her back. But even with 1 week of training, she was so much more manageable and we were able to play catch with her an open field by our neighborhood without her running away or jumping/chasing strangers. When we finally sent her to complete her training, it was great. We got daily updates, pictures and videos. By the end of the 2 weeks, my husband went to pick her up and she was amazing! Impeccable training service! I was hesitant to leave our dog for the 2 week board and train, as she was a rescue dog, used for breeding and we had only had her for a few months. However, I am a teacher and have 3 elementary age kiddos at home, and a military spouse. Time is crucial in our home and budgeted like our monthly budget! After toying between the training packages and the board and train (life long refresher for FREE!!!!) I decided to cough up the money! I literally cried when I dropped her off! Short version: Maria Hagood was amazing with our puppy, Lili. The '2 Week Board and Train' program was worth every penny. I would definitely do it again and I highly recommend Maria as your trainer! Long version: My puppy's trainer for the '2 Week Board and Train' program was Maria Hagood. First of all, I believe she is an amazing person and second, her being an amazing dog trainer is a close tie for first. I was hesitant to leave my dog with someone and pay what seems like a lot of money for my dog to be trained but the reviews and the videos of the training speak for itself. My girlfriend and I booked an appointment, met with Maria and immediately felt comfortable with her. You could tell she was a dog lover and knew what she was talking about. Maria took great care of our puppy. She sent us pictures and videos of our dog's process everyday. Hurricane Lane popped up in the middle of our training and Maria was so flexible with us. She wanted us to take our dog back just in case anything was to come from the hurricane. Luckily nothing happened and our training was never cut short. The price seems high at first but it's an investment in your dog who'll probably be around for 10 or more years. So far, we've taken her on walks, to open fields and out to the beach and she comes back everytime we call her. As a pet owner, I think this is the best thing you can do for yourself and your dog. We have confidence in our dog when she's off leash and we love taking her all over the island. I've trained my dogs before with group classes and private training but the results are immediate and better with the '2 Week Board and Train' program. BLUF: Highly recommend. Worth every penny. Sent my 2 year old German Shepherd/Malamute mix to the two-week boarding training program. She was already pretty obedient, but I had a lot of trouble getting her to walk on a loose leash and she always bolted for other dogs. Two weeks in training and she was done. I take her everywhere with me, she walks right next to me with no leash. She's still the same dog, same personality, just much easier to keep her attention now. (She still really wants to hang out with strange dogs, but now I can just tell her not to and she'll stay with me) As to the experience: you drop your dog off with enough food for two weeks, a toy or two if you care to, and his/her complete up-to-date shot record. You'll schedule the time and day to meet and pick him/her back up on or before this day. Your trainer will send you little video updates throughout the process. On the pick-up date, you'll meet with your trainer at a park somewhere and learn how to maintain the training. She'll teach you how to use the training collar (included in the price), the commands and hand signals used, having you go through everything she's taught your dog to make sure you understand it and to get your dog used to YOU giving the commands. If you're on the fence, my advice is absolutely do this. Well worth the money to be able to take my dog anywhere. There is a LOT to love about this company. If the classes hadn't been so expensive, I feel they would easily deserve 6 stars. However, i chose the 8-week course and with my military discount, it was about $900. This class was designed for the first 4 weeks to be basic obedience (5 basic commands) and the second 4 weeks to be "advanced." Well, let me say up front that they do not disappoint. At the first lesson, you're given the E-collar and taught how to use it to reinforce learning. This, in itself was extremely valuable, compared to just buying one in a store and shocking your dog when he does something bad. Rather, they teach you how to lovingly remind your dog of the command you just gave with only the minimal amount of stimulation necessary. I worked with Sherry. She is amazing, professional, well-trained, and (I felt) genuinely loved my little puppy while we were training. She was very flexible and worked with my erratic schedule, which I greatly appreciated. I can't recommend this company highly enough. The results speak for themselves. I can walk around my neighborhood without a leash if I so choose (of course, Hawaii has leash laws, so...). Even if I don't have the e-collar on her, she still listens and obeys. Not always, but it's a continuous process - it's not like we do the training and then we're done forever, but she's a very good and well-behaved puppy now. She's a joy to walk now; not always pulling on the leash and getting distracted by every little sound and occurrence. Again, my ONLY complaint, and this is after talking to other pet owners that got training elsewhere, is that the price is a bit steep. On the face of it, it looks like I paid my trainer $112.50 per hour for 8 hour-long lesson. But then you realize you get a $200 e-collar included in the price, so it drops to about $87.50 per lesson. That doesn't even sound bad for personalized, flexible lessons, and it's not, but when someone else shows up to the dog park with a remarkably well-trained dog and they said they only paid $50 for 12 weekly classes, it starts to put things in perspective. I have no regrets about spending the money, but I'm under no illusion that I got some sort of great deal; even with a military discount - which I do appreciate, BTW, Off Leash, if/when you read this :) In their defense, I don't know what their overhead is. Anyway... In just a few weeks we'll be working as a therapy dog in hospitals and nursing homes and stuff and it's in large part thanks to Off Leash and Sherry. Great company, great staff. She was so friendly, and was able to explain everything to our complete understating. I asked, and she was able to map out the training schedule with simple descriptions. We took our 3-year old Yorkie to Matt. I was a little worried at first bc bear typically doesn't like men. But he's great with bear. He's very observant and good at reading dogs' body language. This review is for the two-week board and train I did earlier this summer; I've been having way too much fun playing with my puppy to leave one! The trainer my 10-month old German Shepherd puppy had was Erica, and she was a god-send! Background is: I had called about a month prior to schedule the board and train, which is kind of short notice because I know they are relatively full on dogs most of the time. She was able to accommodate taking my puppy during the time frame I had requested, and enrollment of my puppy was easy as was setting up the drop off and pick up time/date as she worked with my schedule and tried to balance it out with hers. My GSD before the 2-week board always pulled on his leash and wouldn't listen to our heeling commands, couldn't ignore other dogs even being on the other side of the street, and barked at every person we walked past. After the training we can now walk him off-leash and he ignores walking past other people and other dogs (as long as they don't charge at him). He listens to us when we tell him "off" or "no" and we can now take him to places like Lani Kai beach park without him being insufferable! Compared to other places OLK9 was cheaper to train him off leash and the price includes the muscle stimulating collar. My puppy actually gets really excited to see the collar come out because he knows it's time to go outside and play! Thank you OLK9 for making Ace a well-behaved dog, you saved us! I wasn't terribly impressed with the training program, but I did really love our trainer. Our trainer is really the only reason we stay with this place. She was really friendly and went out of her way to help us out and make sure we got the most out of the training. The story of our experience with this place is long and complicated and the best way I can sum it all up is to say that I don't feel like I learned a lot that I couldn't have learned on my own by doing some research. Great experience with this company. Very costly but I guess its worth it with the one on one training for our dog that really needed it.

The instructors are great. The equipment may present a problem as mine already has twice now. Overall, a really good experience.

Absolutely worth the money, the two week board and train with Erica was amazing! We got daily updates, pictures, videos and Raven (1.5yr old GSD) came back happy and so much more well behaved! We can take her on walks without a meltdown, go on hikes without a leash, and she responds a million times better to our commands. We took our dog Franklyn to off leash a couple of months ago and we are so impressed with the changes we have seen. I am so pleased with the results of my dog's training. He went there stubborn, and with no obedience skills. Now he is attentive, and loyal, both on the leash, and off. He now a no stress companion. Taking my GSD to Off Leash K9 was the best decision I made. Not only for him but especially for me. It was that one link that completely connected me and my dog's partnership. I say partner cause its just like having a teammate, a fellow cop, or a partner in crime . My dog and I already have a strong bond but this definitely sealed it. It's the communication that gets clearer and the solution from getting from point A to point B without having the misunderstanding in between. His name is Cotto, and he did the two week boarding program. Sherry was his trainer and I couldn't ask for anyone better, seriously. She took care of him as if he was her own. Taking him to her home, a totally new environment, living with strangers and having to live with other pets. Cotto is on a raw diet so his meal prep can be time consuming. Sherry had no problem and was able to feed him like I myself was to feed him. Everyday I was updated with pics and videos of his progress and of him working in all different times of the day and in new places. I couldn't believe it when I got the video of him walking off leash, I was totally taken a back and at lost of words. Cotto was calm and happy doing it too, eager for his next job and its because of that I was so happy. I knew for certain then that me and Cotto can do anything our bond that I thought was strong will only get stronger. I don't have to stress whether my dog can handle anything in front of him, or if my front gate opens my heart wont drop thinking if Cotto is gonna run out or not. I know I can take him anywhere and do it safely and without the "what if's". Cotto and I always talk and this only made our communication unbelievably better. I couldn't ask for more from Sherry and the Off Leash team. I'm truly happy with the treatment, the patience, skill and overall outcome of working with Sherry. Again I say this was the best decision I made for Cotto and I. At the end of the two weeks I couldn't wait to begin the list of new adventures me and Cotto were gonna have. When I got him back he was the same o'l Cotto goofy, clumsy, loving... but there was something more regal about him he was mature and way more alert and confident with tasks and commands I give him. Even after I got him back Sherry checked up on us and answered any questions. Lastly, i want to talk about the E-collar. I know we seen and heard the horror stories surrounding the topic, but its not even close to any kind of abuse or inhuman treatment. Team Off Leash makes sure you as the owner learn to responsibly and properly use it. Sherry spent all afternoon teaching, guiding me while working with Cotto, and answering all my concerns and questions thoroughly. I learned its that missing tool I been looking for. The collar is not a "consequence" for being bad or an incentive to do something i tell him to do. It's a tool and that's it. It's about complete responsibility and not a toy to use to boss them around. Off Leash K9 is the spot to go to build on for better communication and with real results. Our dog Makana is a Pomsky, a mix of Pomeranian and Husky. I chose the puppy more on the Husky side which is known to be more willful and for being escape artists. My husband Howard and I live in a condo in Waikiki with lots of people and other dogs. Makana's overly excited puppy behavior of leash pulling, jumping and barking at others was getting to be much. Yes, I watched several episodes of Cesar Milan's shows, but as recommended I needed the help of professionals. I chose Off -Leash K9's Two-Week Board and Train Program because I wanted the rock star dog with all the great obedience. I think the guarantee helped to clinch it. Makana's puppy consult was Spencer Duclos. After our first meeting, things felt right to continue. He was then perfectly matched with his awesome trainer Erica McRell. Both Makana and I have separation anxiety was softened with many texts, emails, pictures and videos. I was amazed just after the first video. I casually mentioned surfing was on my bucket list and WOW I get a video of Makana doing place on a boogie board being pulled by Erica! Yesterday, he was on one of our neighbor's skateboard. When he came home Howard and I were patiently taught our lessons on handling. That night upon reflection of what he had learned, I felt it, that tight bond, PUPPY BLISS. He is now so approachable, especially with children. Makana was brought to a group of children to educate on dog awareness. His daily walks are a pleasure and we do it even more and longer. I think he has more freedom as I can let him loose in the dog run just knowing that he will come back when called. Makana has a very strong foundation and we will definitely be back for further training on becoming my service dog. When asked to write a review for my experience with K9 Off Leash Hawaii I found it difficult to get started--I didn't know how to put into words the eternal gratitude I felt for Willow's 2 weeks of boarding and training with her trainer Erica! From start to finish, I felt included in her journey as I was updated daily with photos, videos, and texts. I could tell that my dog was being well cared for and more importantly, loved. Before going to K9 Off Leash Hawaii Willow had been seeing different trainers. She is an extremely obedient dog, but can go from 0-100 in an instant. With K9 Off Leash, I can finally say that Willow has learned to control herself! She is "comfortable" in her own skin and the most rewarding part has been to see how balanced she has become. The difference that we've seen in our dog is incredible. We were embarrassed to try and walk her the way she pulled on the leash, now we get compliments from everyone as she sits calmly as other dogs misbehave!
