My dog on the right. Before our classes, she would NOT go anywhere near another dog.

After a long overdue wait of getting my dog into aggressive training, I finally made the call to get my dog started. My dog is blind but would be very reactive towards other dogs and people. I signed up for the Aggressive Training classes which is a 8 week course. All classes are an hour long. I live all the way in Ewa so I decided to make the drive. I was pretty nervous at first since it's a huge investment in money and time. James has been awesome and patient with me and my dog from the beginning. He was very good at explaining things. I know he worked extra hard with my dog especially with her blindness. Although we aren't completely done with our courses, I am super impressed with the progress so far.

Everyone thinks they have the best dog. None of them are wrong. -W.R. Purche My wish is for my dog to be the best little fur baby she can! So, my family decided to find a board and train for her at the young age of 7 months. My husband came across Off Leash K9 on Yelp and then discovered their videos on YouTube. He'd watch clips of various dogs in training every night and would say, "Honey! Look! You gotta watch this!" Eventually I was convinced to invest in OLK9 program, especially after the first home training program (through a different company) didn't work out as we had expected. I say invest because the 14-day OLK9 program is pricey, but after reuniting with her after 2 weeks, I was amazed with how far she had come! Proud parent!! Totally worth it. Amie was our trainer. She's very friendly and sent photo and video of Makana daily. She took her to various places to train on the island, such as Chinaman's Hat park, Turtle Bay, Waikiki Beach and even neighborhood parks. Training also took place at their facility in Kaneohe. The magic started to happen even on day 1! The commands that Makana has come to learn are: Come, sit, down, place (and to another place), and heel. The training incorporates the use of an e-collar, which is sent home with the dog after graduating from the program. I was weary of e-collar training at first, but I was able to feel the corrective stimulus when I dropped her off and picked her up. There are different levels from 0-100 to correct bad behavior. After meeting Amie and seeing the good work she put in with Makana, I am a firm believer if this technology. Especially if you feel you've tried everything. Now that Makana is home, I keep her on the collar during the day when she has supervision and take it off when she's resting and overnight. I plan to eventually transition her off. So it's very important that everyone in the household uses the same commands and repetition. Never give up!! If we ever feel Makana needs a refresher, we can contact OLK9 here in Hawai'i or they even have facilities on the mainland, and it's complimentary for a lifetime. Thank you, Amie. Thank you Off Leash K9!! P.S. if you're military, you'll receive a generous discount!

Worked with Off Leash for my 15 month old Yorkshire Terrier, Winston. Winston's Main issues: Fearful Anxiety, mainly Separation anxiety Barks a lot at familiar faces and out of fear We completed the 8-week reactivity and aggression program with the head trainer, Sherry. She works with the dogs in this program so your pup will be in great hands. We learned basic obedience, sit, down, place, and heel. With the obedience commands we worked through his behavior issues and building his confidence. Sherry was super knowledgeable on how to handle Winston's behavioral issues. She immediately knew what to do when we would come across Winston's fear and anxiety during training and worked it through. She also provided me with extensive knowledge on how to handle my dog outside of the training sessions. I believe Winston and I are well equipped to take our training even further especially after completing the course. Based on my full experience, I find Sherry and her team at Off Leash to be very credible and trust their judgement. I inquired with another dog training business prior to Off Leash, and they diagnosed my dog with severe aggression and reactivity and would require great muzzle training before meeting a trainer. Their full diagnosis did not sound like my dog. However, when inquiring with Sherry, she concluded that there was no aggression but rather strong anxiety. I was assured by our first session when we didn't need to muzzle. In addition Winston was not reactive nor aggressive towards Sherry when she handled him. I highly recommend Sherry and Off Leash if your dog has a similar issues like mine, or anyone that's looking to build a great relationship between human and pup. Winston and I are in much better place now. It has strengthened our relationship and for that I'm most thankful.

"We rescued a beautiful young dog who's owner was obviously unaware of his breed and their high energy. Instead of training him they gave him to the pound. We looked into off leash and they were great to get us in early. Amazing results in just one session. And we were able to take our E collar home to start training until our upcoming 2nd session. They gave us so much information to help us help Nanuq. Can't wait till #2. Coopers "

While away @ 2 week board & train

We had such a great experience with the 2 week board & train with James! Our dog Rocky is 3.5 years old and is a lab mix (we think Rottweiler & great Dane but not sure). He was constantly pulling his leash on walks or if we were on grass. If he was off leash he would run the opposite way. Now he is very obedient and has learned how to "heel"! His recall is amazing too. We wish we had done this training sooner! We loved the daily videos and photos we received too while he was gone. We missed him so much so it was nice to know he was in good hands!

Offleash K9 was OUTSTANDING! From start to finish James was great. My dog has dietary restrictions and he was able to follow them to a t ensuring she remained on track during her stay. Kona is a changed dog since her stay with Offleash K9. Book with James, you will not be disappointed!

Long overdue...it's been 3 months since our rambunctious strong-willed 9-month old Doberman attended the 2-week board and train program with Sherry V. To whom, I cannot thank enough for tailoring her schedule to ensure that our pup met the goals of the program. We had scheduled the training 5 months prior, for 2 weeks while we vacationed on the mainland. During the first 2 days, our pup had a delayed start due to severe reaction to her kibble (I had made the mistake of switching her diet from raw to kibble to simplify things). At first, Sherry spent more time taking care of our pup than training her. She went out of her way to nurture our pup back to normal and got her on track with training; Sherry then extended our pup's training by 3 days, rather than rescheduling our pup to return months later. During the entire time, Sherry kept us well informed with daily texts and pics, sometimes a phone call or video. On the day of pick-up, we spent two hours reviewing the commands and learning how to use the remote and ecollar. I immediately saw the changes with our pup--it was incredible. She was my same pup, just different....We had met at Kapolei district park. There was a lot going on, so many distractions. My pup should have gone crazy, yet she was attentive and obedient. Over the last 3 months, we have thoroughly enjoyed taking our pup off-leash to the beach and hiking. She is doing phenomenal with her extended down and recall. We've taken her to dog friendly restaurants and shopping centers. The best part of it all is the great pics I get to take during her extended stays. I can't thank Sherry of Hawaii Dog Trainers enough! Wishing everyone at Hawaii Dog Trainers the happiest of holidays and a prosperous 2020!

Beans & his trainer (Aunty Sherry) at pick up

UPDATE (5/25/18)- We just picked up our second baby, Minnie, last night!! She is also completely transformed and a different dog. We knew she was always stubborn and head-strong but, Aunty Sherry broke though!! I saw some of that stubbornness this morning on our walk as I tried to "place" her on a bench at the bus stop. But, I could hear Aunty Sherry in the back of my head saying "keep at it until they get it" & I did. After multiple tries and having to use the e-collar, Minnie completed her task & was very excited for "break". We know it will take some time for her to adjust being back at home but, we are committed to keeping her on track!! We just picked up our baby Beans this past Saturday right before the Pet Expo. He was enrolled in the 2 week board and train program (along with his sister Minnie who hasn't yet graduated). When they say they don't return your dog until he/she is 100% trained, they mean it!! He was there for 3 weeks. Upon pick up of Beans, we could tell from a distance that he was a more well behaved dog. Sherry had us call him from a distance. At first he was hesitant to come but, he eventually came running towards us OFF LEASH at a busy road. We spent some time with Sherry learning the new commands & how to effectively use the e-collar. We met on the road leading down into the Blaisdell center (same side as Thomas Square) & the entire time we were talking, Beans was off leash, roaming around, doing his thing. Then we took him into the expo & he was thee perfect gentleman. He didn't pull at the leash, he didn't bark or try to nip at any other dogs, and he didn't jump on anyone. Eventually he got tired & we put him in the sling we bought. Once we turned a corner & he saw Aunty Sherry, he nearly jumped out of the sling to go to her!! Since he's been home, we have been reinforcing his training & he is still doing amazing!! We used the board & train program not because our dogs are crazy & out of control but, because we didn't have the consistency to train them on our own every day. We would recommend this program to ANYONE!! I even did a consult & tour of the facility before enrolling my babies & it definitely helped me put my anxiety at

    Congratulations OFF LEASH #1

Here is my story: I usually have my cats under control at home or cat boarding at my veterinarian's location when I travel. but shucks! I wasn't lucky this past weekend. The other side of the coin is I was lucky because I found Pounce. A couple points 1. a walking distance to my office 2. pricing comparable to what my vet would charge 3. please environment for my felines 4. easy drop off easy pick up 5. daily follow up with pics of my felines from Pounce 6. comprehensive schedule of their stay; to and including when they use the bathroom... go figure! 7. they can/will administer meds if need be (one of my girls has asthma) My felines while happy to return home with me were treated with kindness and care. I will always go to Pounce from now on. Now then, the facility- clean, climate and air controlled facilities. I went to the Queen Street location and parking was easy. Right in front. You will need to call them when you get there. The doors are closed (for obvious reasons) and one of the gals will come out to get you. Same process on the way out! They have your fur babies all packed up and ready to go. Call them and they will wheel them out to your car!!! Sadly, I won't be boarding my felines at my vet any more as I'm so pleased with Pounce. Imagine! My own vet who cares for my fur babies want to charge you all sorts of things to board. Forget that; especially since my felines were not strangers to the vet clinic. But now! my felines are no longer strangers to Pounce. A definite must try if you have felines to board!

We just had a short trip outerisland, but couldn't bring our fir babies. Usually the parents or a friend can watch out pups, but not this time around. We called around and found it very challenging, almost like sending a toddler to daycare for the first time, they need vet records and a company to vouch that your pup isn't crazy and dangerous to others. We called these folks and they were very friendly and made it as easier to request vet records and willing to do trial run overnight to see how our dogs would do. We drove down and it's a little confusing to find, but basically aim for Salz Lock and Safe, pull into their parking and continue to the chain link fence and you'll see it mountain side. We met the couple that takes care of the fur babies. They were very welcoming and most importantly our dogs sixth sense accepted them right away. Their tails kept wagging, which made us feel better. Our dogs actually shake when we go to the vet and tail down, between the legs. We provided food for the morning, leashes and harness and that's it. They recommended not bring the beds because other dogs might mark them, since it's not a kennel environment. They can walk freely in the rooms and act like they do at home. We left them overnight and we're ready for a phone call, but no complaints came. Then in the morning we went to pick them up. On arrival the couple were still their smiling with our pups. Our dogs seemed happy with their tails wagging. They reported back to us how the dogs did and everything went well. I would recommend Barks and Purrs, because they genuinely seem to care for our dogs. Our dogs were happy and we felt safe to have them watched there.
