Kristi is truly one of a kind My boyfriend and I came to her desperate for help with our new pup, Kona, who struggled with severe anxiety. He was scared of pretty much everything -- people, new environments, being separated from us -- and we were also dealing with barking, basic obedience, and some unwanted behaviors. After just 4 sessions, the transformation has been unbelievable. Today was our final session, and I honestly wish I had a video of how Kona used to be so people could truly understand how far he's come. At the beginning, he wouldn't even go up to Kristi and was extremely hesitant and fearful whenever she took the leash. Now? He confidently walks up to her on his own terms -- calm, trusting, and self-assured. That alone speaks volumes. Kristi didn't just train Kona -- she guided us on how to train him the right way. She's patient, knowledgeable, supportive, and truly cares about both the dog and the owners. She sets you up for success, but it's important to note that the progress comes from continuing the work at home too -- and her guidance made that possible for us. We are beyond grateful for Kristi and everything she's done for our pup. If you're dealing with anxiety, fear, or behavioral issues and want real results, Island Dog Obedience is 100% worth it. I cannot recommend her enough!

Running away, jumping, even pooping right in front of us... it got to the point where it just wasn't fun anymore. That's when we called Island Dog Obedience. Kristi was incredible from the start. She came to our home to meet Gigi, and soon after, Gigi was off to Kaneohe for training. It was hard being without her, and we wondered if anything would really change. Then came the daily photos--Gigi playing with other dogs, calmly sitting on her cot, and responding beautifully to Kristi's commands. It was amazing to see. When Gigi came home, we were hopeful but unsure. She greeted us with joyful zoomies, then quickly settled down and listened. We couldn't believe it--she was a completely different dog! Gigi is now the best little pug, and it's all thanks to Kristi. She was amazing, and at our house for over 2 hours making sure we understand how the e collar worked. It was a great day for all of us. with so much love and aloha, Jeri & Jerry Lynch

I asked that Maddie only receive a bath, blow dry, and nail trim (no haircut), and Christina followed every instruction perfectly, including using Maddie's special shampoo. Maddie came back looking beautiful! Extra fluffy, fresh, not matted at all, and most importantly, calm and in great spirits. What really stood out was Christina's kindness and genuine care. She took time to talk with me before and after the appointment, never made me feel rushed, and clearly treats the pets she works with like they're her own. The treats were such a sweet touch too! Thank you, Christina, for taking such great care of my girl!

When I called ahead, I specifically asked if there were any requirements or documentation needed, and I was told no because Hawaii does not require rabies documentation. When I arrived, they asked if my dog had any allergies, and I explained that he does not, but he does experience seizures occasionally. The woman at the counter with long hair and a ponytail spoke with the manager, and I was then informed they could not groom him because of the seizures. They asked if he was on medication, which he is, and whether the seizures were triggered by noise, which they are not. I explained they only happen every few months. While I understand policies are policies and I did not argue their decision, it was frustrating to find this out only after arriving for the appointment. The manager did provide me with a recommendation for another groomer, which I appreciated. The manager answered my questions and gave me options for types of trimmers that I could use at home. However, the customer service afterward was what truly disappointed me. I mentioned I no longer wanted my other dog groomed but was interested in purchasing nail trimmers. The manager asked an employee to assist me. The employee walked away, and I followed her, but then lost sight of where she went. I eventually found her sitting at the front of the store waiting for someone else to bring the item. When she finally acknowledged me, she simply said, "Oh, I'm waiting for them to bring it to me." The issue was not the wait itself, it was the lack of communication. I was left standing there confused, having to look for the employee, only to find her sitting down without ever telling me what was going on. Overall, this experience could have been handled much better with clearer communication and stronger customer service.

Vet suggested Tails, a friend suggested Tails, it's only 10 minutes away, so I inquired. We had to take her to a "meet and greet" for an assessment, and had to provide proof of vaccinations prior to the appointment, which I thought was a good sign. As expected our little bundle of nerves was recommended for their "Pet Success Plan" training to help her get used to the facility, staff, become more socialized. We were sent photos of her at the facility and given a "fun report" of her time there. There are webcams of the general areas that you can access online. A week of training and "Play Care" time and she was approved to board as a"non-social" dog. I was assured that she would have ample human interaction and because she was actually categorized as "semi-social" (she did improve with her training!), she'd still get some time with other dogs. (She may not want to interact, but needs some kind of companionship!) Dogs are placed with similar sized dogs only, which is good. You can view the play area which even has a wading pool for those that like to swim. Their boarding brochure is very thorough with feeding times, medication scenarios, food options/instructions, etc. You add everything to the booking online. They have set protocols to bring in your dog to keep the dogs apart. Sometimes it takes a while if several pup parents are dropping off or picking up their fur babies, but the protocols are good. we are comfortable that ours little one will do ok while we are away. They sell all kinds is snacks, food, toys, other supplies. This was our first time we utilized such services so I have nothing to compare it to. (Last time we boarded a different dog was 30 years ago...) I am giving a preliminary rating of 5 stars for all the visits and work the staff put in with our pup, pre-boarding. All the staff we interacted with knew her by name and how she did. All seemed to love dogs, gave suggestions, etc. Will update after we board her and see how she is when we pick her up. We are hopeful all will go very well with the prep she's had, our experiences to date, and the friendliness of the staff.

I was never a "cat person." I've always had dogs and actually took quite a bit of pride in being a…read moredog person. But when we adopted our little Autumn girl, she completely melted my heart and turned me into a die-hard cat lover almost instantly. Our family loves Autumn so much. She is an absolute angel -- truly the sweetest cat I've ever met. So you can imagine how terrified we were this past weekend. During a dinner party, she slipped out through our lanai door without anyone noticing. Around 8 PM we heard the loudest cat fight we've ever heard (and we hear a lot, since there are many stray cats on our property). We realized she was missing and ran outside searching, but couldn't find her. Later that night she came home -- but she could barely walk. One of her legs was twitching, she was wincing in pain, and we couldn't even gently touch her back without her crying out. I immediately feared the worst -- that she had fallen from a tree and broken her back. My son stayed up with her all night, but she didn't improve. The next morning, we drove from the North Shore to VCA Family & Oahu Veterinary Specialty Center after being referred by our regular vet (who was closed since it was Sunday). The receptionist was efficient and straightforward, took my information, and told us we could come right in. When we arrived, we were greeted kindly, given paperwork, and within minutes Autumn was taken back for evaluation. After about 30 minutes, we were brought into the exam room to discuss next steps. I'll be honest -- in my emotional, protective state, my first thought when I saw the veterinarian was that she looked young, and I unfairly questioned whether she had enough experience. I feel a bit silly admitting that now, because Dr. Steph Craven was absolutely incredible. She was confident, knowledgeable, calm, and deeply compassionate. She knew exactly what to do and handled both Autumn and my very anxious mama-heart with so much patience and care. I had prepared myself for the worst. I truly thought we might have to say goodbye. Thankfully, after diagnostics, rest, antibiotics, and pain medication, Autumn is going to be okay. Dr. Steph Craven and the entire staff were professional, communicative, and calm under pressure. In one of the most stressful moments for our family, they gave us clarity and hope. I sincerely hope we never face another animal emergency -- but if we do, they are absolutely on speed dial. Thank you so much for taking care of our girl. Aloha, Lynsey (and Autumn)

Since options for exotic animal vets are limited, I wanted to be sure I chose the best. I'm so glad I decided on VCA Pearl City. My guinea pigs have been patients there since they were 6 months old, and they're now almost three. They go in for their annual checkups, and whenever I have a concern, I can send a photo to the vet or schedule a quick consult. That level of accessibility gives me so much peace of mind. They typically see Dr. Luis Ho for their routine visits, and he has always been really thorough. Recently, one of my guinea pigs developed a lump near her mammary gland that grew overnight to about the size of a quarter. We were so scared. After antibiotics didn't work, Dr. Ho promptly referred us to Dr. Nathaniel Lam for a surgical consultation. Both doctors were incredibly knowledgeable and reassuring, which helped ease our anxiety during such a stressful time. The surgery was successful, and my guinea pig is alive and healthy because of their care. I'm truly grateful to the team at VCA Pearl City for taking such wonderful care of my girls. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for experienced and compassionate care for their exotic pets.
